Concept help
Going with the idea of shredding souls, you could describe your primary as Soulfire, or something similar. The idea being that you aren't physically burning them, but burning their souls/spirits/ids.
I have a similar concept with my fire/dark corr; I colored my fire to be the same as my dark, and it's a Darkfire corrupter.
I find your lack of signature disturbing.
My first character ever was a fire/fire blaster, one of countless fire/fire blasters that are phoenixes of some sort. Lately I noticed that, with each iteration of her build, as the power of the character has increased, the emphasis on the /Fire side has decreased to the point that all I have anymore is Ring of fire, BU, consume, hot feet (which I don't have the endurance to run) and fire sword/FSC (which I rarely use).
Therefore, for powergaming reasons, I'm thinking of rerolling as Fire/MM and portraying the Psi attacks as spirit energy. I keep wondering if this will feel 'right' for a phoenix, though. On one hand, you don't normally think of phoenixes as psychics, except for that one Marvel character. On the other, I do like the idea of shredding souls as an avatar of the cycle of life and death. Thoughts? Note that I'm not asking for playstyle or game mechanical advice. I'm interested in how natural the concept of Fire/MM as a phoenix feels to others, and whether people will keep thinking of that Marvel character when they look at her powersets. |
For example: she is such a developed psychic that she can create fire with her mind, not her body or special powers at all

Its true that there are a few copies out there but they are in my experience few and far between. Few male claws/regen scrappers look and feel like Wolverine. Not every SS/inv tank looks and feels like Superman so why should your fire/mm blaster look and feel like Marvel Pheonix unless you purposely go out of your way to resemble her (which I dont condone if any Lawyers are reading )?
Depends on what powers you take in the secondary:
DP = absorbing any energy heat, etherial? (coloring required)
World of Confusion(?) = they just fear your presence
Psychic shockwave = your wings beating so fast a shock wave flies out
Build up = you're mad powerful
Psy Scream = well your still a bird, birds screach sometimes they can deal with it. It's your battle cry
Mind Probe = I dont know, just probe them till they die and let them figure out what happened later. BEAK PROBE FTW!!
Thrust = [never used it]
Fear = see WoC

At the end of the day, if the concept feels right to you then it is right. Period.

The reason I brought up that Marvel character is, discussing this with people in-game, a fairly common response I got was "well, Marvel Phoenix has fire and psychic powers too, so you'll be OK." So it's something I'm wary about.
I'll only take 5 powers from /MM. Subude (mandatory), Concentrate, Drain Psyche (not sure how to conceptualize this yet - probably something along the lines as Consume), Psy Scream/Shockwave (either spirit attacks that directly harm souls, or the song of the phoenix that causes psychosomatic damage to evil people). I'll color all of them warm golden light.
Why say she's psychic at all?
The Mental Abilities could just be the Phoenix's song(s) having an effect on people.
Though one could just say that she's psychic, after all your phoenix has taken on a somewhat (at the very least) if not full human form (not many stories have phoenix's being able to do that.
Could be magic, could be natural abilties of the phoenix that aren't known of in legends.

Possibly a stretch, as I can't get into the character creator to look for myself, but you might be able to recolour at least some of the /mental powers and play them as heat blasts. You'll have to overlook the fact that they're mechanically doing psi damage, but thats not a huge deal (for me at least, I have a dark blasters with powers tinted green that is tecnically through poison gas everywhere).
Here you come with a stupid name like Fixer - brutalkillz_
Can you use power customization so that the MM animations don't emanate from the forehead? If so, maybe you can rationalize it as radiant heat waves.

But I think coloring the effects to be radiant heat or calling them sonic are both very good ideas.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
Instead of making a new thread, I'm gonna post a question here.
I've got this idea to go 1-20 on yellow side as a Loyalist Night Widow styled Stalker. Then for red side play the actual Night Widow. The real Night Widow is to represent a Loyalist spy in Arachnos. So the 1-20 part is where the Stalker show's his loyalty to Tyrant and then goes to Primal Earth and becomes a Night Widow to spy on Arachnos for him.
2 toons because you don't get yellow side content for the VEATS. Question I have is which would work best for this idea on the Stalker. Ninja or Willpower for the secondary with claws?
