Not sure what that Giant Savings dll is but it looks like more adware.

The Google toolbar is at least reasonably well behaved and some people find it useful. I wouldn't consider that a problem per se.

I know CoH is a pita to run graphically and the updater has always been a weak part of the system and annoying as heck, but this is a real pain now. Ran fine last night and the past few weeks since I came back.

going by the time of your post it sounds like weekly maintenance. If you were able to force start the game it may have been just after bringing the servers back up but before the update server is up.

You can however make liberal use of underscores

    Brawl = Braw_l = B_r_a_w_l = B___________r_____________________aw______________ ____l etc
  5. Also bear in mind that if you abandon a mission it will be removed from your mission list. Calling the contact may result in him presenting you with a different mission if he can offer random ones. In most cases you will be offered the same mission though.

Selecting a second mission will leave the original mission in your mission list after you say to abandon progress.

There is where the OS writers have assumed you will never have that much and then you try writing to physical RAM where the OS expects to find a hardware page you can get all sorts of wonderful side effects.

It may depend on how quick you are.
You may have noticed that if you edit a post immedietely after creating it you won't get a "last edited by...." but after a minute or so you do.

You used to be able to delete a post but not after it had beed replied to or at all after a period of time - i'm not sure if that is still the case.

    EDIT:
Yes - still get a delete option going back in.

    Game off center?

Are you running the game at the same resolution as your desktop on the monitor that you play it on. - You will see two options one with the same size as your desktop, the other will say desktop.
If not you may need to look at your monitor settings to set position and size at the resolution you play.

Also do you run at one of the "standard" reolutions - there are some wierd widescreen ones about which the game doesn't directly support - actually nevermind 1280*800 shouldn't be a problem.

For that matter are you running it on one monitor or spanning both -in the latter case are they both running at the same resolution?

Did you add the second monitor after installing the game? - if so you could try running in windowed mode, saving the settings then restarting the game and putting it back to fullscreen.

    potentially memory

You can set the fps of your inactive instance to cap at a low level - 5fps is common which should bypass most GPU limitations.

Also if your doing it on a laptop - I'd guess the limiting factor would be more likely to be the lack of adequate cooling.

Which component your specific system will be most affected by will depend on that system's makeup.

They are newer games, potentially more demanding I would of thought.

Also the game has been updated to take advantage of more modern hardware - generally by increasing the level of detail/effects that are displayed. The game engine is still basically the same as when it was launched but the graphics engine is only a couple of years old and so is comparable if not newer than those used in the games you are comparing it with. However this has been done as an upgrade to the old engine such that it will continue to work on lower settings on older hardware. A full rewrite with an increase in minimum specs and especially if it involved changing to a DirectX architecture would no doubt have given better performance and stability but would have meant that a sizable amount of the playerbase may not have been able to continue to play.

This can be why it can be easier to produce a completely new game than to update an existing one.

Unfortunately OpenGL support from NVidia/AMD is nowhere near as high as DirectX generally because most games use DirectX which in turn is generally because there is better support. Its a vicious circle.

Depending on the "work on site" requirements a low end laptop for that and a gaming desktop may well work out cheaper.

Yes - I want one as a villain character - but I can't see that AT ever getting unlocked.

They're clearly Nemesis' super automatons - able to soak more damage than would one shot a maxed out Granite tank. Haven't you noticed that they also have a summon havoc power - the animation for it being to run around office blocks waving. Then there's the ones who pretend to be in trouble so we risk our lives to go in and show them the way out just to run back in once we get then to a door.

I think the Beeb would have taken about 30 years and the ZX81 would have failed repeatedly about every 5 minutes or so so for that 50 millenia might be nearer thanks to its poor error correction.

Has there been a sale on them which has ended since the OP started the game client.
In which case the market UI might still show the discounted price but you wouldn't be able to purchase any because those items were no longer available. This would imply that discounted items are actually applied as a seperate item in the DB to full price items - I'm not sure if that is the mechanism used though.

There is a huge difference between how you most efficiently handle a few multi Mb files and how to handle several thousand much smaller files.

Generally the popmenu system was intended to work with fairly small files so may have been optimised to that end.
Remember this is a mechanism that was intended to be used by the game's developers and was made available to the playerbase as unsupported. As such if it is used outside its intended scope then there may be problems - it is the responsibility of the person developing the menu to test it as opposed to the game's development team.
Different languages use different techniches for garbage collection.
C generally its the programmers responsibilty,
Java usually its left to the system to handle it
Both of those are included in the job specs on NCSoft's vacancies.

If you have a system designed to handle garbage collection automatically which expects small increments of memory usage of a few k and you through some 50Mb jumps at it when its close to but still below the clean up threshold you could put it straight to a crash position without allowing the system to clean up first.
It could also be that any pointers or data structures are not of a sufficiently large type to handle such a large file because they were never intended to do so.
  17. First question really needs to be what applications do you use/plan to get that are 3D enhanced, followed by what 3D technology do they support.
Until you know that you can't really tell whether that hardware is compatible.

If you want to watch 3D movies by all means buy the TV. Bear in mind the reports of eye strain from extended viewing periods.
You may be able to watch movies from the PC with appropriate software - that may come with the card or it may need to be purchased. I haven't checked if Windows Media Player supports it.
I wouldn't hold out much chance for current or past generation games giving much support though.

Giant Monsters, special stealth ignoring enemies, snipers, witches/Longbow Eagles and Hamidon are all you have to worry about, other than enemies with Tactics(the yellow head glow lieutenant enemies often have).

Also, Rikti Drones, and other stealth ignoring enemies, are not as much of a threat with Invisibility as they could be. Invisibility does not suppress when you are hit, so you can run by them even if they are hitting you, so long as you don't get mezzed.

don't forget ambushes which target the mish holder.

I'm another who puts the stealth IO in a sprint rather than SS - that way I can keep SS slotted without wasting a slot and pick which sprint to use depending on whether I need stealth, speed or jump. Got to love prestige sprints
  19. If you are wanting to copy most or everything over the easiest is probably pull the drive from the old PC.
Install it in the new PC on the second SATA port (or an EIDE one if its older), You may need to unplug your optical drive if this is SATA and you only have two ports.
ensure you are still booting from the new drive and just copy the files between drives.

Easier to do than to explain tbh.

Alternatively if both are still working just connect both to your router/switch and copy across the network - will be slower though.

Personally for backups I use a drive caddy and just plug a hard disk in to that - windows 7 already has the tools for handling backups which should be adequate for home users. (this would also make copying drive to drive simple)
  20. I found I could get away with a couple of uses of Zeus Lightening but the third would cause a mapserver, didn't get a problem with Hand Clap or the single targets.
My suspicion is that its related to the number of targets - or possibly to their return aggro/ragdolling animations.

Given there seems to be different thresholds for this it may be that game settings/hardware are having some influence as to when the threshold is hit.

Anyone can 'select' any mission - it will show up as a Yellow target.
The mission can be 'set' by the team leader (or by anyone entering in the case of door mishes) in which case it will show as a red target.
Mish TP and presumably Team Transport require it to be set - i.e. show as a red target otherwise you will be deliverred to the first mish on your list. Strictly speaking you still go to the first one if it is set - its just that setting it causes it to be listed first.

Would be nice if it would send you to the selected location rather than the first though - especially if none is set. I suspect most of us with access to the power have been caught out by that. For team transport it really should always send everyone to the same location - the owner of the power would be the obvious choice if no mish is set.

Probably from one of the dev posts on the forums before they were migrated.

All powers were designed such that Primary PP versions should be superior to Secondary PP which were superior to Anciliary/Epic/Patron PPs

Now some have since been rebalanced - in your examples you stated the Epic PP versions had higher end usage so it sounds as if this may be the case.

The one place I am aware of where this order falls down is in the case of summoning pets where the power is identical.

In the case of RoTP I would expect the epic version to restore a lower percentage of base health and end.

I would tend to agree that adding a short delay before becoming untouchable for one version sounds unlikely as this would make them different powers with different mechanics. More likely if it was removed (or had its duration reduced to 0 - that way keeps the same mechanics) In which case it could be that it was forgotten to be done for the Epic version.

My suspicion as to what is happening is that lag is meaning that the untouchable period is over before the client displays the res animation.
I'm not convinced about the efficacy of the untouchable mechanic which is present on most (all?) rezzes - I've certainly died mid animation from Ressurect from an Empath in the past. I've also died from aggro from a mob after hitting Hosp as well from attacks which had activated but not fired.
In practice if that quarter second is going to be an issue then wait before rezzing - that way the mobs should reset and any aggro you receive will need to wait for the power's activation time which should put you into the untouchable period.
  24. The Arena badges were amongst the suggestions for arranging for some of the less popular badge runs discussed on Sals at the weekend but I haven't seen anything confirmed yet as to what and when.
