Reset Task or Missions?
There is an "abandon" button in the mission list. Click that and it will abandon either:
a) the selected mission (red nav text)
or
b) the first mission if no mission is specifically selected
Alternately, you can talk to the contact and abandon the mission through them.
This allows you to reobtain the mission from the contact and start it over.
------
Alternately, you can select a second mission (make the second mission red in the nav) and accept losing progress on your current mission, which doesn't abandon the mission (for instance if you want to keep a specific door location or a certain set of enemies within the mission).

If you just want to reset your current mission so you can re-run it, first exit the mission. Then from your Missions window, select a different mission. You will get a pop up asking to confirm that you want to abandon the current mission. You can also do this by going back to your Contact and selecting Abandon Mission from his window.
If the mission is too tough and you just want to get pass it, then you will need to go talk to your contact. In addition to the Abandon Mission selection, there will also be a Complete Mission selection. Completing a mission gives you the mission complete Inf and XP rewards and badge or whatever that comes with the mission. Note, it won't give you any of the Inf and XP from kills in the mission. There's a 3 day cool down between Complete Missions (per character). Note: certain missions can't be completed this way.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
Another way to do it is to type /leaveteam which will clear your currently active mission (and should reset it).

It's always said abandon progress (since the launch of the game as far as I remember).
That was in the game before they added the ability to Abandon Mission.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Also bear in mind that if you abandon a mission it will be removed from your mission list. Calling the contact may result in him presenting you with a different mission if he can offer random ones. In most cases you will be offered the same mission though.
Selecting a second mission will leave the original mission in your mission list after you say to abandon progress.
