You know, thinking on it as a "How do we get new blood into the PvP Zones" I think the only solutions I can think of right now are these:
1) Have the devs create some actual incentive to PvP Zones so that even if they don't want to PvP, they are in the zone for the incentive. Make it so if you launch the missile you get a buff that's a bit better. I know I stalk warburg quite a bit and I love to stop the launch.
2) More PvP SGs. Even if it's just in Freedom. I've been wondering if it would even be feazable to have my SG promote in the various zones as a PvP Group for a bit now, I've got a lot of good bennies so far (Ventrillo and the like) that would make a PvP group a bit more together, I just wonder if there would be any real call for something like that. Besides, teaming is cheating and cheating = wins.
3) NCSoft events in the PvP Zones could also be fun. Nothing major, just make it so that there is something like the Rikti raids or something like that there. Perhaps have it be a giant robot that each side is trying to take over... games really.
4) Let's just figure that Freedom is the PvP Server and get a group of us together and build up an Arena Tournament. Not just 1/1 3/3 5/5 fights, but Pokemon fights too... though tbh, I've never been in one of those... always been curious about 'em though.
For the Tournament, I would be more than happy to sponsor something like that and I know I could probably even get a nice little pot for the winners of each division (Rare IOs or something). I actually kinda' like that one... we should do it!
----------
PS: I know that #1 is a neverhappen kinda' thing. Just wanted to throw it out to show that the devs could do something, but it's really up to us to encourage new PvP activity. -
Quote:That's fine then. I had originally had a bigger post about how the AE needs to be moved out of AP, but I deleted it because it seemed like a rant, it was the other option I was going to mention. I will go ahead and put it in now though./unsigned
Seeing as the AE has been advertised for allowing people to go from 1 to 50, this seems very counter to that developer intent. Oh, I know, as long as you get more coins, you can still level up there, but it's asking people to go run content they obviously chose NOT TO DO.
-----------
Let's get the AE out of Atlas, Galaxy, and KR (not to forget the Red side equivalents). I get that they are fantastic ways for older players to get from 1-50 with ease and try out new builds, but I just feel that new players coming into the game for the first time are awash with ways that they don't have to ever play the game.
As a new player your options are:
a) Grind your way from 1-50 over the course of several months and really get to love your character as well as the game.
b) Watch southpark while someone autolevels you from 1-50, realize that you don't like the way you set up your powers that you don't understand and do it all over again.
Now I sound like I'm anti-farming, I'm all for the greenbelt, I agree with the 1-50 suck. I would rather just powerlevel on up. My issue isn't with me and the other 50% of the game like me. It's really mostly for the 20% who are trying the game for the first time.
The first thing new players see is people spamming their farms and prices and other begging for farms. I remember when I started the first things I saw were people trolling jokes and costume contests (with the occasional spam for SGs).
The AE System right in AP where any L1 can walk to without ever seeing a real mob is just a slap in the face really. Why would any lowbie go and do the system on their own if they can just let someone else do it for them? Hell, at this rate, we should just have an Auto 1-50 pack for ten bucks that we can buy with the new P2P system (grumblecakes))
I told you it was rantish...
Anyway, the gist that I was going for was either restrict the AE system so that it's less farmable... because it totally is... or set it up so that if they can farm, they can't do it in the newbie zone. That just doesn't seem right to me. -
Put a timer on the AE system. Make it so that every 24 hours you can run real missions that give you up to 5 coins, the coins are then used in the AE system to run a mission with XP. You can run the missions without any gains for free, but who would want to do that?
The real crux of the setup is that if you don't spend your coin, you don't gain. It's not just the leader buying for the whole team, you get 5 AE Missions a day with XP and that's it. Now the naysayers will chime in and cry out unfair, it's a beautiful system that we love to exploit, well me too. I think it's great, I also think the rest of the game deserves a bit of credit.
Now the system would be simple. When you zone into an AE mission a little box appears and shows you how many coins you have for that day, it then asks if you would like to spend one to activate the mission's benefits. Yes or No. When you run out of coins, the Yes is greyed out.
Now the fun thing about this is that people can still farm. Hell, I know that if I had a chance to run 5 farms a day on a lowbie I would be all over that. The other thing is that farmers will charge WAY too much for new players and eventually the Battle Maden farm may be in style again. After all, we can run that one forever.
So this is how it works
1) Any NPC in a mission that is >Grey may drop an AE Coin.
2) Take the AE Coin to the AE Tower of your choice.
3) Select mission and enter.
4) When the mission starts, spend the coin on benefits of the mission (XP, and Tickets, NO INF)
* Only five coins will drop within a 24 hour period, similar to the Tip system currently in place.
* You may run any mission without a coin, but will get no / low benefits (No XP, No Inf, Some Tickets) -
Quote:The game is already like that. I'm not just saying that as a Dooom sayer, I'm saying it because I actually just did something very similar to what the OP was saying... but legally.I sincerely hope that "pay to win" never happens. Dividing the community into haves and have nots based on who has the most disposable income is something that would seriously break the game for me. Games, to me, are a form of escapism. Making City of Heroes into a money syphon which constantly reminds me that most people are richer than me is NOT what I want out of "Freedom."
I just returned from a long sting of being AFK for various reasons and when I got back I realized that I was only about 800m from being able to finish my troller set (final cost, 3.4m). I went to AP and called out my build and asked if anyone wanted help on their farm, I got a lot of replies since I'm fairly good. In the course of me standing still (I think I was watching South Park or something on Netflix) for about 8 hours, I was able to make up around 200m. So in four days of me farting around on my days off, not playing the game, just targeting a certain boss and then switching back to Southpark, I was able to pay to win. I've got all of my sets firmly in place and I'm rocking it out.
So if you think Pay to Win is bad, you should try out the AE system. I've always thought they needed more restrictions to that, but hey, at least I got my full set. -
Quote:I've been following this guide for years now. I've practically got it memorized from my frequency.
-
I've agreed that this is a real problem for a few years now. I'm fairly good at finding a PUG when I need one, but that's because I'm a bit crazy in my searches.
These are the features that we really need for the Search Menu
Drop-downs: Archtype, Powerset, Area
Write-Ins: Low Level, High Level, Name
Check Boxes: Solo Only, On the Streets (not in a mission)
For the most part, all it really needs is a writable level search, and the On the Streets box. It shouldn't be all that difficult, something along the lines of checking to see if the target in the search is currently in a mission. If they are, don't list them.
I have always felt that showing players in a mission is a bad idea in the first place, why would I give a crap if someone's in a mission unless I'm looking for where a specific person is? I want to find people who are ungrouped and are just wandering around by themselves.
PS: Why the HELL would anyone care about an Origin search? That's along the lines of searching for the color of their boots. -
I love how the guy with 40 posts is screaming how the people with thousands of posts are all idiots who aren't listening to his wisdom.
PFF was nerfed for good reasons, it gave blasters a way to get completely out of the combat zone when they decided the fight wasn't going right, I know this because I used to do it all the time.
Psi is deffinately more powerful than most other blaster sets (Ice is still pretty fun though) in that it is the least resistable. With a bit of proper slotting though, you can get your Psi resisting up fairly high. High enough to make Psi seem like any other hard hitter.
I more or less live in Warburg myself, something about killing my friends that makes me smile, and I see a good deal of crazy people rocking the pvp fields and a lot of them can take my Psi/Nrg blaster out with as much ease as I can take them.
Keep Psi how it is, let's not break out the nerf bat, let's break out the steel. Don't hurt one set, boost some others. Nerf bats are bad for the environment anyways, all that foam crap... -
C'mon NCSoft... give us an official thread already. We need to talk before you do something so horribly bad as this.
It doesn't work. It may bring a bit of extra funds, but just give us the chance to buy stuff while we P2P and we will. Hell, I've got almost every expansion pack you've sold to date (including buying the DvD edition of the game after buying the normal disc because I wanted that jump pack)
PLEASE don't kill your game. I really like this one. It's fantastic and isn't worth the hell that you are going to inflict on it. -

All new units who are interested in joining the MECH Empire should go through the Cadet pages to see if the MECH Empire is for them. It will list out the requirements and expectations that all cadets will be expected to follow and know prior to joining the Empire.
The Empire of MECH is a Guild founded by Grand Master Rasta in the realm of Never Winter Nights. MECH is bent on cleansing the worlds of all lower forms of life (everything non-MECH). This is done through the skills, methods, and technology granted to us by Gond, the God of Metal.
MECH is composed of purified individuals who have had their past lives removed. Purification allows for said beings to begin a new life as MECH, provided they survive the process. Through this process they are stripped of their memories and reach a new level of existence after being altered, enhanced and molded into a superior form of life.
Many view our goals as evil, but upholding these principles forms the core of every MECHs programming, and is the only acceptable method of self preservation and advancement within the Empire. MECHs are mechanically efficient and cold, rarely displaying emotion of any kind.
The MECH Empire is currently stationed on three games. The Realm Online, City of Heroes and Guild Wars. -
The title says it all. I'm on Freedom right now because that's where I've been for a while, but I wouldn't mind relocating somewhere else if the PvP is better.
Anyone have any ideas of if one of the other servers (not test) is more PvP active? -
I think I love you guys. I was afraid I was going to have to follow some vague rules of protocol when I go into these zones. Now I know that if you went in, you're *** belongs to me.
Now for the really hard part. I have to learn how to make fun of whiners. -
Psychic Blast as a primary power of a Blaster is quite possibly the best PvP Focused powerset that the game has to offer. It is almost entirely a single target powerset that goes past most people's defenses (and is especially effective against scrappers, so long as they aren't /WP) and with a bit of creative slotting, can even take them down.
My personal favorite secondary is Energy Manipulation. The reason for this is because it just does a LOT of damage. Throwing in a Total Focus after blasting someone for a few moments can pull off over 1k damage in just one hit. I often reserve it for my finishing move (due to it's long draw time).
Another reason that I enjoy this mix a great deal is that at Level 8, you will have three good attacks as well as Psychic Focus and Build Up. That means that even as a low level toon you will be able to take out the big bosses faster than your comrades in PvE. Your single target abilities will make your teammates a bit put off, but with the amount of damage that you put out on each of your single targets will help them not notice it.
-=Psychic Blast=-
Psionic Dart (****-)
Your basic attack for a blaster, this is one of the few First Power powers that I have ever taken, the reason? -Recharge. I freaking LOVE -recharge. Especially when teamed up with Power Boost. Go ahead and take PD and give it some love with your slots. It's worth it.
Mental Blast (*****)
If you're taking First Power, you have to take second. I think that's written somewhere. Even if it wasn't though, you want Mental Blast. It's another -recharge power that will do some nice high damage and will help fill the gap of your power rotation. Slot it well and treat it right.
Telekinetic Blast (*****)
When I was first starting my character it was for PvE, I didn't know what I had created until it was too late, and I was using the character in groups. Needless to say, I originally skipped this power at L4 and took Energy Punch instead (facepalm). Now that I know how this character works better, I now know that TK Blast is quite possibly one of the best powers in the build. It does great damage with a slow recharge, and the KB goes well with Power Thrust to keep a lot of baddies on the floor.
Psychic Focus (*****)
Similar to Build Up (but reversed so it's more +to Hit than +damage), this power opens up around L8, giving you a great combo of BU/PF as a boss dropper. If you are starting the fight, drop the two of these with a Power Boost and snipe away. Fantastic way to ***** someone fairly well.
Will Domination (*****)
With moderate damage and a secondary that puts the target to sleep, this is a nice power when fighting a group and you need one of the targets out of the fight. I often use it on a Lieu when they toggle up just to keep the focus on the Bosses. It's also fairly useful in PvP for anyone not protected against it. I've used it on stalkers who didn't kill me the first time and was able to hit that, pop some pills, and two-hit them out of action.
Psionic Lance (****-)
The Psychic Sniper Attack, Psi Lance has pretty good range and can do moderately good damage, it also has a nice secondary that lowers your target's recharge rate, which makes it my current opener (when I can pull it off).
Psionic Tornado (*----)
Ever want to see a weak damaging psi attack that hits a bunch of targets?! Me either, skip this as if it didn't exist. Take something more useful, like slotting brawl.
Scramble Thoughts (***--)
This power is often overlooked because of it's Minor Psi Damage and it's not too useful secondary (Disorient). However, it has a hidden perk. It gives a +25dmg thanks to the Blaster Defiance. Many times, I will use this as a PvP opener, just to boost the rest of my damage up and (hopefully) to disorient the target. I only gave it three stars, but that's mostly just because I don't have it in my current build. Even though, it's a great way to power through your target's defenses.
Psychic Wail (*----)
Probably one of the weakest PBAoE Nukes the game has to offer, Psychic Wail just isn't worth the time it takes to recharge. My PvE build has it, but that's mostly just so I can take out the Peons in a group before I move on to the Lieu and Bosses. That is to say, it WAS in my build until I dropped it like a ton of bricks.
-=Energy Manipulation=-
Power Thrust (*****)
You don't have an option in this. If you are a Psi/EM, you are getting Power Thrust. But that's okay since this is one rather useful power, especially when in PvP or Solo-PvE situations. The Knockback on this guy will keep your target down fairly often, and when combined with TK Blast you can keep a KBable target on his back nearly indefinately.
Energy Punch (*----)
Why are you this close to your target and trying to keep it there? Sure it disorients, but you're wasting a slot if you get Energy Punch. Skip it and move on.
Build Up (*****)
As I mentioned before, Build Up and Psychic Focus are your bread and butter. Make sure they are well recharged and well set for their slotting and the two of these will keep you alive by making sure everyone else is dead.
Bone Smasher (**---)
Very similar to Energy Punch in my feelings for it, but at least it does some more damage. The draw time is a bit longer though.
Conserve Power (***--)
If you know that you're an Enduracne Junkie durring certain events, go ahead and pop this. I've got it slotted up for Recharge and End Bonuses and the few times I remember to use this, it does come in fairly handy... I just forget a lot because I'm usually busy.
Stun (****-)
I had this in my build for a long time until the draw time and frequent resistances urged me to 86 it. On top of that, the disorient is also found in a lot of other EM powers, so if you really want to stun someone, just slot those up so you can at least do some decent damage while you're at it.
Power Boost (****-)
This makes your secondary effects more powerful. I freaking love secondary effects with this combo because it's either -recharge or disorient. Slot 'er up and use it a lot.
Boost Range (****-)
If you are planning on being mostly a sniper and aren't planning on being up close and personal (good luck) then this is a good power. It's also fairly useful for catching runners, so that's why it's in my build.
Total Focus (*****)
I frequently forget this power's name, simply because I always call it "The Finisher." Any time I start a PvP fight and my target has about 800hp Left I will pop my pills and drop this... followed by whatever my target was. Total Focus will do up to 1200 damage to an unguarded target after full powerups, so this power is a must for any build with EM in it.
-=Force Mastery=-
Personal Force Field (*****)
A great way to get out of the fight, this little guy puts you in a bubble that can't be hit or hit from. If you start to get a bit low on HP, this will pull you out fast enough that you can get away. It's a gem to have and I put it as a required power for anyone thinking of going into a PvP Zone.
Repulsion Field (*----)
This would be almost alright as a power if it didn't burn so much endurance. Putting this field up is a beacon to anyone around you that you will be dead soon, all they have to do is hit you from a distance and run into your field to drain your endurance.
Temp Invulnerability (*****)
Ever wonder how to get your damage resistance up? Well here it is. I've got it contributing 21% to my Smash/Lethal resistances which keeps me going for a good bit longer in most fights.
Repulsion Bomb (**---)
This is actually somewhat useful as a power, but most PvPers don't stay bunched up enough for this to really be something you will want to use. I didn't pick it up for the simple reason that I couldn't think of a time when I would use it.
Force of Nature (****-)
A great way to power through a lot of short attacks, FoN will boost all of your resistances up (except Psi) so that you can take a beating. Of course, if you're taking a beating, you may be doing it wrong. -
So I've been going through NewEgg for a new Laptop (or a refurb) and I am trying to keep it under 500. So far the best one I've found is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220758 but I'm not sure if it's going to be up to snuff to handle CoH when I play on the laptop.
Any help on this one? -
I'm just wondering if there is any established etiquette while in a PvP zone. Things like honoring duels and the like. This is mostly for Warburg since it's really a FFA in there, but I guess it would be good for other zones too.
-
Now what we really need is the Conan character attacking the Leno character. Gotta' keep up with the times now!

Group Name: United Heroes of America
Server/Game: Freedom / City of Heroes and Champions Online
Theme: Superpowered FBI Agents
Webpage: http://www.unitedheroesofamerica.com
Contacts: @Endal
Usual Activities: PvP Events, TF Events, AE Events, RP Support.
Other Activities: Costume Contests, "Sporting" Events (ie: races, falling contests, TF Races, etc...), RP Support (Help writing bios and back stories on VirtueVerse or on our website).
Background & Structure:
Formed in secret by J. Edgar Hoover, the United Heroes of America were formed to protect the rights and freedoms of all citizens of the United States. Originally the UHoA was created to work as a combined action between the various departments that protected the States. The founding member, J. Edgar Hoover, knew that the only way to be truly secure in a government that would protect the citizens of our country would be to have certain special people on the higher levels of its government. It was with that thought that J. Edgar began the Federal Beaurau of Investigation as a way of finding these special individuals.
The first such one was found in 1944, shortly after the death of Adolf Hitler, he was a young soldier in the Marines named Franklin Thomas. Franklin, or Sipher as he would come to be known, was one of the greatest code crackers on the planet, not by any training, but merely by the genetics of his family. Sipher could view any riddle, puzzle, or code of any sophistication and immediately give you the answer to the problem.
Second was a nurse who had been working near the front lines during the second World War, her name was Fabiette LeBelle, she was a French woman who had immigrated to the states in the early 30s to escape the invading Germans. When the depression hit she found that she could either join the working forces or join the Army of Nurses, it was a strange ability to soothe wounds that were fatal to merely be simple flesh wounds. Her involvement during WW II was a pivitol turning point for our side.
Finally, there was the young boy who approached J. Edgar one morning on his way into the FBI office, his name was simply Nathan. Nathan came to J. Edgar and told him that he would find what he had been looking for in the far back of his desk drawer, J. Edgar looked at the boy, puzzled, and then invited him up to his office, where he found the pen that his father had given him at his graduation nearly 14 years earlier, he had lost the pen months ago. He asked the boy how he knew where the pen was and he merely shrugged, not knowing himself, just that he knew that the man was looking for something and that it was there. Nathan told him that he knew it as clearly as anything he had ever known, but he wasnt entirely sure WHAT it was that he was looking for.
With the coming together of the United Heroes of America, J. Edgar Hoover influenced the world in ways that no one could ever imagine. No secrets would ever bypass him, he could keep key people who were injured for any reason alive and well, and with the powers of Nathan, he would know what to expect in an upcoming situation.
It wasnt until 2004, when the Rikti Invasion began that the presence of the UHoA was publicly known. The original four members expanded grossly to number more than 40 members, all sworn to secrecy about their involvement with the government, but generally publicly known. Among the leaders of the UHoA were the Endal Family. Gage Endal, an incredibly powerful psychic, lead the group at that time, as he was one of the keenest minds in the world when it came to tactical knowledge. Gages brother, Timpleton, was second in command, one of the most powerful men on the planet, Timpleton was hit full in the chest with one of the Riktis plasma cannons and was completely unphased by the blow. Unfortunately, his wife, Sasha, was NOT unphased by the blow. The shock wave that ripped off of his chest sent her into a coma, that was never fully awakened, but her body was given up to the Kheldian Act to host a spirit of the alien race.
With the Endal family leading the way, the UHoA helped to fight the Rikti out of Independence Port and freed the power plant of any Rikti involvement. It was through the power of the UHoA that the plant was able to be protected as long as it was and it was they who worked to protect the plant while the forcefield generator was put in place to keep the Rikti out.
The UHoA is now a publicly known entity and strives to protect the United States from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.
Admission Notes/Requirements:
We are both an RP and a PvP SG, that basically means that while we do enjoy our RP (which we usually hold to be rather light) we are also out to team up and take down some other players. It's really a lot of fun and with the new Praetorian Earth system we can even get a few villains to help us out. -
Still nothing. Hey support guys, just a quick FYI on this. I checked to see if there was any news on it, no posts and no updates (can we get an "Emergency Update" forum or article list, I know most of them won't be noticed and such, but when it's like this we would like to get a little bit of an FYI, even if it's just "The game is down, we tried something out and it didn't work, we will have it up ASAP" that is something we want! C'mon with that customer service!
Another FYI, the support page at http://help.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/ncsof...p?p_faqid=4808 is wrong. Both of the links don't work (for the server status and the forums) So if you could fix those that would rock. -

Howdy everyone. My Video card has finally pissed me off. I'm going to buy a new one and my budget is 100 bucks. I'm buying off of NewEgg and I'm wondering which of the Video Cards in that setting would you recomend?
I'm tired of my computer crashing and I'm buying the new card on Friday, so any help before then is good, if not I will just buy the highest rated card in that range. -
My Suggestions:
Make http://boards.cityofheroes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=547 the default.
Redo the emoticons to either be PNGs (making the backgrounds blend correctly) or redo them to work with the background. (or create an option that we can use custom emoticons)
Remove the ability to have images in the signatures.
That's all I've found so far. The page takes a long time to load, but that's probably just because everyone is on the forums. -
I'm calling it dead. Going to start a new thread. Try not to break the string guys?!
