  1. February 2006:

I decided to accept an invitation to a Positron task force a half hour after having 1/4 bottle of Ni-quil. Thankfully for everyone else, I wasn't the tanker.

That was the most peaceful TF I'd been on and the pink elephants were all level 1 and shot candy canes. I awoke the next morning to chirping birds and the login screen music.

I came looking for tips myself so I can't advise you. However I wanted to be clear as to whether you were going for a PvE build or PvP. That may help someone else answer your question.

I meant to say catch breaths, not break frees. Sorry about that.

I raised a scrapper to 50 on Virtue just before Issue 9. During that time, I ran with two different groups of players (from two SGs). Maybe they could just smell "non-RPer" on me because I never used parentheses when directing an actual question to a team member. I think they just went into non RP mode to accommodate me.

I'd like to see a campy dialog similar to that parodied by the "villain" in the "I'm a Hero and I'm a Villain" ad campain introducing the Mac version of CoX.

The closest thing to a RP experience I've had was when some nut kept TPing me into mobs. He said it was in his character's nature to do so. Fortunately, I switched on the "prompt for teleport" feature after the sixth time. I then extracted sweet barb wired revenge on him before leaving the team and trading in my scrapper for a shiny new bots/dark MM. "...an outward expression of my inner evil." Muahahahahahahaa! (cough)

Does the "average" role playing team get dramatic like the signature heroes at the beginning of the LRsf, or do role players keep it simple; only going as far as to refer to the other team mates by their character names? Do they keep it within the confines of the environment or are they conscious of a world outside of their own pages... er... digital 3D realm?

Do they actually know of Captain Dynamic's "Awesome Button?"

Would it be possible for me to witness at least one fully RP'd scanner/paper mission? Maybe just heroside because villain RP would just scare me. Then again, I have been freaked out under the Atlas Park statue after walking in on a scripted modern re-inactment of The ILLIAD.

I have a friend of mine whom I've watched become twisted into an avid RP'er (I'll never try to surprise him in his base again) but I don't know any of his friends well enough to ask if I could experience them acting in character.

I'd imagine my presence would taint their experience unless I was to portray some kind of ghost or extra dimensional being sent to observe.

"To Wentworth's for a stealth IO! Awayyyyy!" (gets on a Sit 'n Spin)
  6. Since I haven't seen anyone post about it in here, you CAN just hit a lower zone before you head off to your mission... do something crazy like... well.. grab some Catch of Breath inspirations?? Then just interrupt/snipe until you've got the dom bar where you want it.

My permadom 2.5 fire/psi had the luxury of using Cinders on a group, followed by using Drain Psyche on up to 10 enemies at once. With recovery like that, I couldn't run out of endurance even with superspeed and four shield toggles on.

I couldn't always get to "domination" before the drain psyche recovery bonus ran out, but I'd usually get about 75% of the way. Breakfrees would get me the rest of the way and I still didn't activate domination until I got into the mission. But alas, my fire/psi dom is headed for the chipper. I'm glad for the rest of you though.

Oh, by the way, I agree with the others who have mentioned that a snipe is a great place to put the Sting of the Manticore set for that 7.5% recharge.
  7. Dang it. You beat me to it. I couldn't remember Nando's last name to save my sandwich.

  8. Okay! I've finished sending out all my resumes and I've wrapped up all my extra-occupational projects for the season.

So now that I have some free time, I'd love to catch a medfly or two, but I don't want to waste anyone's time by repeating what others have already found and reported. I'll try to catch up with what's been reported already in the forums and hope I manage to step on something green and juicy.

It sinks. A lot of people die.

Go see a movie with some suspense.

And I do the same. I search for 4 stars only too.

WHAT? Are you kidding? BEST make-out movie EVER!

I actually believe that there are still many people who don't realize that not voting is bad. Some get the interface, click on the stars and then realize they can't make up their minds and don't know how to un-vote. I actually got a tell from someone about my arc who told me that very thing.

If only more people actually read the tutorial text at the AE building instead of clicking through it for the reward... /e shrug

    Circle of Thorns question:

If you kill a CoT member, presumably only the body dies and the Oranbegan spirit is once again rendered incorporeal until it can find a new body, correct?

Can the Oranbegan spirits actually be killed off permanently? If you kill a spectral, does it actually die? Or are you just weakening it so it needs to recover its strength before it can manifest again?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It depends on whether or not your name is Sam Winchester. He and his girl Ruby seem to have a permanant supernatural solution for that kind of thing.

Question: When Lady Grey stole some of Honeree's essense during that last big battle in the comic, she said something like "May I have some of your years."

That made me wonder, is that what Council vamps and dark melee characters do? I made a dark melee character yesterday and it freaked me out that I was stealing years off of peoples' lives. That's definitely a post golden agey-thing for a hero to do to win.
  11. I've been here for almost 4 years, and like someone else said earlier, I'm tired of the existing dev content. It was great the first ten times through across thirty or so toons "actually played" from 1 to 50. I'm sick to death of CoT, Family, Rikti, Wailers, Malta, Council, Goldbrickers, etc. Arachnos is starting to grate and I never really cared for Roman themed content, although I'll agree it was refreshing.

I also don't care much for running task/strike forces as they, like the normal arcs, never change... same thing over and over. You have to wait or hunt for team members to reach the minimum team size also which is something I feel is a waste of my time. Some SF/TFs I simply have no interest in repeating ie. Shadow Shard (although it was cool) and the Positron TF (ugh!!).

If I have four hours or more to play per day, which I normally do, and since this new MA system was presented (in articles and or NCsoft press) as a way to level from 1 to 50, it had better remain a way to do just that.

I don't care much for what happens with tickets, however I strongly oppose the attempt to cap xp in the MA system. Furthermore, I don't appreciate someone suggesting I "do something else" when "they" feel I've spent enough time in the MA system per day. I play solo and will not stand to be penalized for exploring MA arcs. I simple won't have it.

That said, if you're suggesting there be a cap on tickets/xp for x number of runs per day of any arc by a specific author, that at least makes the slightest bit of sense in the holy crusade to crush farming. I just want to play different arcs and still gain xp/prestige for it. If I continue to receive tickets as well, it's just another badge to me. It still seems unfair to anyone who expected to use the MA system as an alternative to the preexisting content.
  12. Are there any villain CoS Ouroboros arcs? I can't remember.

  14. Farmers have told me that ANY ally, just by its mere existance in the mission would lower rewards. Is this true?

If I think something is really bad, I'll usually send a comment where I thought something wasn't to my liking (can't speak for anyone else) and offer an opinion of what I'd rather have seen. I don't give those any ratings. What I don't know is if my not rating something alters their rating (like giving them a zero). I had hoped it would just not count for or against them if I didn't rate it at all.

Okay! Twelve defenders is a bit much. And I can understand the dislike of Confusionists. I have a plant/psi dom and I'm pretty sure she only gets invites for her perma'dness and the Shockwavey goodness. I've even been politely asked not to use Seeds of Confusion... so yeah, I get it.

  15. Everyone can't be an expert designer whose mission will appeal to everyone who plays it on their first attempt.

I made a mission just to be silly and cute. The next day, I read so many posts about what people expect to 5-star and 1-star due to mission content that I almost pulled my arc off right then and there. I'm glad I didn't because my reviews have been more positive than negative.

Then again, my title was outlandish enough that the snooty types would turn up their noses and pass it by. I'm told that allies diminish the overall rewards in a mission. Perhaps, the designer of those defender filled arcs either didn't realize this or he or she just thought it would be fun for "someone" to have AI helpers?
  16. Bah! "I'm an idea man. Don't bother me with details!"

Okay, what was I going to... Oh yeah. That Illusionist badge...

Can that be obtained by using an Aoe or aura on an MI's spawns to get in some damage and then just let them despawn? Or do we have to actaully defeat the phantasms completely and only the phantasms (not the other ILL pets)?

I remember camping out by a pair of MIs in PI (at the two skyscrapers in the middle of the map) to complete one of Harvey's Defeat 65 Carnies missions a few years ago. Can we get the ILL badge that way?

You Missed! Boot to the Head..... Did you hear the one where Ed attempts to join the Canadian Army?

Boot To The Head was actually a middle name in the credits of a once popular Super Nindendo game.

Did someone tell KitsuneGirl that Issue 15 isn't Going Rogue?
  18. Bon Anniversaire (in half a month), Mateo.
  19. Oh. I'm sorry. I misread the topic. I looked in here because I thought it said "Amy Jonsson can turn you on."

I know there was a new patch and all, and yet I somehow knew that she wouldn't do a Weird Science number on me.

Ah well. I'm keeping the Barbie doll.
  20. Rubberbanding, lagging and crashing aren't just issues with one's PC lately. My system can run with max resolution and graphics settings (and it's two years old) but the game itself has a few problems with lag lately... especially in zones like Atlas Park, Talos and Perigrine Island for Heroes, and Cap Au Diable for Villains on the moderately to heavily populated servers.

As far as what rig is good to get "today" that will run fine with the next huge expansion (mentioned in the Announcements), I'd see what the tech minded players who are up to date with gear have to say.

Getting at least two gigabytes of system ram as well as an Nvidia graphics card (of the GT or GTX variety) also with at least one gigabyte of ram on the card itself (four months ago) really improved my current system.

    Edited to add:

My old desktop system had a 2.8gigahertz single core CPU with 1.7gigabytes of ram. The video card was an ATI Graphics card with 512 megabytes of ram on the card. With this system, I couldn't run the game with full graphics without turning it into a slideshow. Loading was slow when moving between zones and when entering/exiting missions.

I think I now have a dual core 3.0gigahertz CPU with 2megs of ram. I recommend 4 megs but that might force you into using Window Vista as an operating system.

Check out Tigerdirect's website for their "deals" and then compare their prices with similar rigs at your local Bestbuy, Fryes, or what have you.

Don't forget that this game now runs on certain flavors of MacIntosh, however I don't know any Mac owners who play CoX.

    Anyone else got ideas?

    Maintenance

    START/Programs/Accessories/Games/Pinball I'm at 8.5mil so far.
  22. Well now that we know it's coming, I'm going to forget about it until we have concrete info rather than read over a thousand pages of speculation before then.

    See you all in-game.
  23. I was thinking last night that my villainess with her halo and white angel wings seems to want a change of heart. Finally I don't have to help others from the shadows.

I would imagine this would be great for smaller servers where the hero population greatly outnumbers the villain population. I can not foresee what this will do to Freedom. Imagine all the Mastermind pets under the Atlas statue.

I'd love to see the roleplaying possibilities this would have on Virtue though.

I wonder how they'll handle badges now. Will we be able to have badges from both sides at the same time if we cross sides?

I guess I'll need more character slots.

"I am a Hero!" "And I am a villain!" "Hey, what's up with the zombie henchmen directing traffic?" "Me? What about your phantom army stealing the wheels off of baby carraiges?"
  24. I never bothered with Rikti missions/arcs even if they were "gimped" and gave crazy xp because I really hate fighting them.

I was just fine with Grandville having at least one person LFT and I hope that now I can find people to join me in the quest for Purples again.

However, if that base deletion bug is back as someone said, maybe it's time I take that depression management class.

Thanks for indirectly reminding me to revisit my "Attack of the Zombie Catgirls from Planet Glam" arc. It's a one mission popcorn arc but I want it to remain something that a Defender could solo at the easiest difficulty setting.
  25. I suppose I thought it was "working as intended" since until recently, I've never taken on more than four to five enemies at a time when soloing.

I've noticed that if I apply "darkest night" on an enemy and fly around above him so he can gather aggro for me, the group of enemies will find any nearby object to try to jump up near me. Enemies have been doing this for the 3.5 years I've been playing however I've also recently seen them jump on eachother's heads when there were no other objects in sight.

A good friend playing a dominator froze them in that stacked position for the rest of the team to see. No pic unfortunately.

Because the rest of the team was made up of veteran brutes who seemed rather unimpressed with our Council double layer cake, I concluded that the stacking was nothing new to them.
