  1. lol - Thanks Dech for the chuckle of the day...

I *feel* your pain, and I do (mostly) the same thing. I can totally relate to
    the issue.

I solo 95% of the time, I usually play squishies, and for each toon, I have a
particular inspiration "loadout" that it carries (varies depending on toon).

I *don't* keep the huges - I sell those for 100K each on market. I do this,
NOT for the cash, but because I know that if they were in my tray, I'd NEVER
    use them...

I load mediums and I have a bin of them in each of my bases...

I still find myself making the odd hospital trip with a tray full of the darn things
now and then - and mentally kick myself when I do...

I'm getting better about it though - there IS help for us compulsive inspy hoarders.

Some of that advice is here:

Smurphy's: dedicate a column of them to use and keep empty... <-- Big!

Certain AT's: For me, some AT's have helped me employ Smurphy's advice easier.

With Kheldians, I pop a luck when I see a void, and often a red as well...

Brutes make it easier to chew candy also, because SMASH usually dictates a
faster pace, and Candy helps Fury

Stalkers - it's just SO tempting (and fun) to chew a red or two, and wipe
    out a spawn in 3-5 seconds... AS #1 -> Placate Boss -> Crit-Kill #3 --> AS
and Scrap-kill Boss... Smile profusely while hunting the next group...

PvP: For me, I *hate* dying more than I like killing, and THAT outweighs my
    reluctance to use inspirations.

I'm not sure if we can be cured of this debilitating affliction, but I maintain hope
that one day, I too will chew through the candy like a spoiled kid with a sweet-tooth,
or my (weekly) teaming friend who plays the (as he calls it) "Inspiration Mini-Game".

Once again, thanks for the chuckle and an entertaining thread... You're not
    alone out there...

  2. Not to denigrate anyone's play preferences by any means, but I'd have to
agree with the Goat that you'd have to take steps to actively avoid
earning inf to keep from getting ~100M on a character by L50.

Common IO recipes at L50 vendor for 100K each, without even going near
the market, so if you play a L50 character at all, you're going to earn 1M - 5M
an hour just from killing mobs and vendoring any L50 IO recipes that drop.

Any appreciable effort beyond that will double that rate.

Any decent drop at all, sold at market, will multiply it significantly (and
I'm not even talking about "rare" or even great drops).

Speaking of rare, many rare pieces of salvage sell on market for 1.5M - 5M
each, and 540 AE tickets (about 2 "normal" 15 minute mission runs) earns
you one... Doing this, all by itself would probably net 5M - 15M per hour...

To be sure, that's not what OP is talking about in his question. I think the
minimum there is 10 Billion and up, but I'm left scratching my head in wonderment
when folks say they struggle to make 100M -- Unpossible!

  3. There are several AT's/Builds that are playable in PvP.

Apart from various build advice, for a younger player, I'd focus more on the
mindset than the build. In that regard, I'd off these ideas:

1> Talking Smack: Don't start it, and don't get involved with it. Yep, some
folks make it a part of their playstyle, and some of it can actually be fun, but
typically, it's just detrimental, and I'd recommend staying out of it - especially
    for a new pvp'er.

2> Don't sweat kills or deaths. Both will occur with some level of regularity - it's
part of "paying the dues" - There's always some measure of Rock, Paper, Scissors,
and in zones - it's rare to have "even" fights... When "sharks" (Hero and Villain
alike) smell blood - they'll swarm for the kill... Don't let that bug you.

3> Have Fun and Learn... PvP is completely unrelated to PvE - next to nothing
a player learns in PvE matters at all in PvP. The key is to have fun getting
involved in the kills and battles, don't sweat the deaths, and learn the kinds
of things that work well, and the kind that don't. Keep in mind that there are
few (if any) "rules" - Anything you hear to the contrary is wishful thinking.

4> As part of the play - keep an eye on the guys that do well, and try to
emulate those tactical concepts with your own toon where applicable.

GL to the youngster, and Have Fun...

  4. lol - such a harsh crowd...

Personally, I'm partial to Stalkers for a few reasons:

1> They're "safer" - I hate dying more than I like killing. With capped Stealth,
I pick and choose battles under my terms - I don't have it dictated to me.

2> I love the element of surprise. For me, the challenge isn't actually getting
    a kill - it's the cat-and-mouse maneuvering to set a kill up...
That's a pure playstyle element that most other AT's don't have so much...

3> Stalkers are universally: reviled or ridiculed. There aren't a lot of "gray"
opinions on them, so it's part of the fun when a kill generates the "QQ" effect.

Those are just my thoughts on it, and I don't have a knock on any other AT's,
I just happen to find Stalkers more fun... and fun is what it's all about...

  5. I'll echo Memphis Bill's comments somewhat by saying that PB's are steady,
known quantities, and thus have few surprises in a fairly straightforward style.

Triforms of either flavor are more involved than normal AT's, but generally,
imho, WS's have higher highs, and lower lows. PB's generally cruise along
on a much more even keel.

Additionally, if there is any thought of PvP in your future, PB's are a much
better choice in the current PvP 2.0 implementation (again, imho).

    Regards,

  6. I'd add in that a Triform Peacebringer can do ok as well...

The nova is a pretty effective attacker, you have heals in human and Dwarf.

Essence Boost can also pump up your HP into Tanker range, and with
Quantum Shift, and multiple travel powers, you have options for escaping
    bad situations as well.

It's more involved from a usage standpoint than some of the other AT's
you mention, but in skilled hands, it can be viable.

Or if you get very lucky you can hit your nuke and pop a blue before your end bar hits 0 and your toggles dont drop. Cannot say if this works for all nukes but I have been able to do this quite a few times with Blizzard.
Agreed... For Elec/Elec blasters, I've heard that sometimes the endurance
returned from their attacks can (on rare occasions) avoid the crash - I've
not had that happen on my E3, but I've read anecdotal posts implying
    it's possible.

    Regards,
    4

PS> For the person who negged me for "Risk & Reward" - thanks... I really
appreciated your mindless "kill the messenger" approach because I said
something the DEVS have been spouting at us since Statesman was in
charge - were your powers of reading comprehension more astute, you
might have been able to infer from my phrase "tired old saw", that it isn't
necessarily a position I agree with - it's simply the reason devs have
stated for having the crash... Of course, don't let "thinking" interfere with
your approach to rating... Anonymous sniping suits you better...
  8. Another thought along those lines:

I've found if I log out in the middle of an Ouroborous arc it still tracks the hours.

I don't know if that applies in OP's case, or even if those are also counted toward
"M" NPC reported patrol hours, but I can't rule it out either...

    Regards,
    4

PS> My PvP toon (level capped for Bloody Bay) has 1200 hours on him, and
I'd hesitate to guess how many hours my L50 Main has these days...
  9. I too am having it pop up all the time, and yep I did /bug it.

If you switch alts frequently (as I do), you get it for those also. It's currently
in the top 3 of my most irritating I-17 pet peeves...

It will be a pleasant day when they fix that pop-up...

Just like pop-ups on browsers, pop-up dialog boxes are equally annoying
here in-game, too... I'd have thought the devs would have learned that by now?

I remember when people weren't interested in Thunderstrikes and people here were posting how great a set it is. Someday you and I won't be able to do our mid-upper 20s frankenslotting as people figure out how great it is.
Yep - it's definitely getting much more difficult than it used to be - that's
not due to the idea getting more popular traction though (imho), but more
about the dev's having minimal understanding of their own market implementation,
and the changes they made that skewed supply to upper ranges for recipes.

That said, I was still able to get 4 complete sets of (L30) Crushing Impact redside,
for the brute I'm working on, but it took 2+ months to do it...

As Fulmen's noted earlier, you have to do a lot more planning and early bidding
    to do it now...

It's not impossible, just a LOT more inconvenient...

  11. Well, the more I use this interface, the less I'm liking it...

I'm finding myself just vendoring things that I would have listed previously.
It's simply not worth the hassle, and I'm not as altruistic as Fulmens

I've managed to avoid getting bitten by the persistent price bug, but it seems
like more of a pending "when" problem than an "if" problem.

The one thing that might be good about the persistent price is when you are
selling a bunch of crafted IO's... That's handy...

However, I'm firmly of the mind that if the item being listed isn't *identical*
to the previous item, or if the "operation" changes (buying vs selling) that
    price should Go Away.

Three things I'm really developing a pure hatred for though, are:

1> Being unable to close the detail for an item by clicking it again - Grrrr

2> That extremely irritating PoS pop-up box that tells you about all the
recipes the piece of salvage you're selling is used for - Yeah, I *know*
that already - That's why I Shut It OFF in options... Still, it keeps coming
back... (Yes, I've /bug(ged) the fact that you can't shut the *&#$^^ thing off)

    3> Temporary Powers:
3a> Three recipes for each - using different ingredients presumably? This
would be *nice* if you could actually TELL which one uses which ingredients
before you buy - except that mouseover doesn't work on those... stupid.

3b> Pre I-17, I had some Etheral Shift recipes on-hand along with the
ingredients needed to craft them... Post I-17, I have recipes that I no longer
have ingredients for because it changed the recipes I had -- Thanks Guys ...

Maybe I'm just crabby today, but I'm totally missing the "benefits" of the
    "new market" and it's UI...

On that note, I'm taking a valium and playing somebody else's game for awhile...

    Cheers,

  12. As others have noted, it's a matter of personal preference and what you plan to
    do with your character.

In my case, I use L10 Commons at level 7, L15 Commons at level 12, and then
L20-L25 Common IO's as appropriate until I can buy the set pieces I want
(which I have already begun to collect by that point in the toon's career, based
on a Mid's plan for the build)...

Between Level 22 and Level 27, I start Frankenslotting in earnest.

As was pointed out earlier, they out-perform +3 SO's by that point, they're
cheaper than higher level IO's, and since they never expire, I get full benefit
for a much longer time in addition to working set bonuses available in all PvP zones.

I've found that to be a pretty good approach for equipping my toons. YMMV

    Regards,

  13. Yep - Guardian has a serious case of yo-yo-itis....
  14. Yep - I agree with the dissenters on this one, OP.

If we *must* have a penalty to offset Nuke damage (tired old dev saw on
Risk vs Reward), the straight-up nuke crash is preferable to your suggestion...

At least in the crash case, you have options to deal with it, and it doesn't
eliminate your ability to do something helpful and productive, unlike your idea...

    Regards,
    4
  15. I have no idea why they stopped working... I think it was around I5 timeframe
(off the top of my head).

I had a blaster that hunted a LOT in the Shadow Shard in I3/I4 and they worked
then as he was oftentimes high on the kills list for those critters.

    <shrug>

    Regards,

  16. I'm mixed on the UI so far.

It IS bf-ugly in terms of looks - yuck...

I am liking that they finally got recipes and items sorted consistently (hated
    that about the old one).

I like the tabbing layout as well (in spite of the ugly looks)

I like the additional items that you can buy in stacks now.

I dislike the way they show market slots - I liked the at-a-glance horizontal
slots of the old layout much better than the vertical one.

I also dislike that I can't close the data box for a particular item once opened
(except by opening up a different one), and I don't like that the UI doesn't
seem to remember sizings and settings from visit to vist...

I too, dislike the persistent bid values - that IS going to bite people on a fairly
    frequent basis, I'd bet.

I'd have thought that they'd separate out Common IO's (and their recipes) as a
separate tab as well... They went to all that trouble for salvage categories,
    so, Go Figure...

For me, it's still too early to hate it, but I can definitely tell that I'm not jazzed
    over it either...

    Regards,
    4
  17. You know, I *wish*, just for once, these guys would actually TEST their code
before foisting it off on the paying customers...

I'm also hoping the 3 recipes I e:mailed to myself didn't simply go POOF and end up
in the void somewhere, but given the stellar track record our devs have with every
significant coding change they've made so far, I'm not holding out any hope that
    I'll see those 3 again...

    Nice Work, Team...

Not a bad suggestion really (esp. if you have a friend who can help you
invite various alts to boost the initial prestige). How much prestige does it
take to get a functioning storage base?
It depends on what you want.

Off the top of my head, the first decent storage room costs 100K (it will hold
    9 storage units).

A salvage rack costs 15K, will hold 30 pieces of salvage and counts as 1 of
    the units.

An Enhancement Table costs 95K, will hold 100 crafted enhancements, and
counts as 1 of the units.

None of those need power or control (A Vault unit does), so if you want a quick
"shed" with, say 5 racks, you'd be looking at a total cost around 175K prestige
(or 270K if you throw in an enhancement table).

For each SG member toon you add (even if they're your alts) you get 20K prestige
up to a total max of 300K (I believe)...

So, if you have a bunch of alts on that server, and a friend to invite them, you
could whip up a solo base for storage in quick order.

Going forward each of those units would run you 100 rent per month, so with
the 5 racks and a table, your monthly rent would be 600.

The most amazing thing about this method is that it does work, because essentially,
it amounts to people voluntarily giving me money. <snip> It's so puzzling,
it makes me want to find the people who are doing this and ask them why.
I think there are a couple factors that explain most of it, when I think about
who the recipe suppliers are likliest to be.

1> First, it's important to understand that Common IO recipes on the market are
purely excess items which are by-products of whatever the supplier was doing.

It's also a fair assumption that the supplier is already slotted at the level that recipe
dropped at, otherwise you'd think that they'd use it themselves.

In short, it's an item they don't need at that point and simply want to be rid of.

    2> Laziness/Convenience: I don't mean this as a derogatory point. Given #1 above,
the supplier's choices are vendor the recipe, delete it, or list it on the market.

Deleting it, while easiest, gets them nothing in return. Vending it gets a better
price for it, but it requires a specific trip to a vendor somewhere to do that.

Finally, listing it on the market will get "something" for it, and give someone else
some benefit too. It can also help get market badges (for sales).

The supplier is probably someone who visits the market frequently enough to feel
that trip is easier (or more convenient) than stopping by a vendor and it's easy
to list it for a quick turnaround sell while they're doing other marketing.

That's good for us, because we will get rewarded fairly nicely for our patient
bids and our willingness to make the effort to take them to a vendor (something
the supplier didn't want to bother with).

You could also suggest a #3, namely that the lister simply doesn't know what
the recipe is worth, so they list it low, but I'd bet that point #2 is far more
    prevalent.

Off the top of my head, most of them don't stack (for yourself).

Generally, player stealth powers behave like the pool power stealth.

Turning one on shuts the other off...

That said, in addition to the Stealth IO, other players stealth
auras will stack with yours, and Grant Invisibility (cast by
someone else on you) will stack. Group Invisibility also stacks.

Stalkers can also stack Hide with all of those as well, but
as a Blaster, all you can stack (I think) is SS, Cloaking and a
    Stealth IO by yourself.

Also, you may want to check paragonwiki - it's a better source
