Quote:All points I understand and agree upon, except for maybe the end decision... (so, this is just a polite, respectful continuation of your equally polite and respectful conversation)Sure there is.
Every time this is done, it is prefaced by an announcement to all current and prior CoH customers explaining what is being done and when.
No matter how well worded, there will be a good percentage of the population that will misunderstand it and get alarmed by it. A great number of people are irrational idiots, and most of them have internet accounts. They will either post (and repost) incorrect information about it in their rants or they will call and complain.
Managing that takes up CSR time, and that costs the company money.
So, if you have a system that DID NOT meet its stated goals last time but did have a cost of CSR time, why WOULD you do it again?
As there is one element not included in the evaluation...
The fun and enjoyment delivered to those who would appreciate it.
I'm not saying whether or not it overcomes the negatives, but it is a factor all too often dismissed when things like this get talked about.
Yet, it is exactly what is being exchanged.
EDIT: Also, your comments on the other game's server population, naming system and the results is indeed interesting.
I used to be completely unabashedly opposed to any such naming system, but I softened up to it some time ago.
Basically, I would no longer scream bloody murder if they ever implemented it.
I'm not convinced I'd like it, but I think it'd be alright (and I may actually love it).
Not that I suspect it is happening or anything... Anyway! -

How come these threads always have to be started by someone overstating things so much to the point of hyperbole? (you're defeating yourself and the point before you get started, mate!)
All the good names are, indeed, not taken...
However, I am absolutely in favor of name purges that free up names of any and all levels for accounts inactive for 2 or more years.
I'd even go as low as 1.5 years, but whatever.
Also... since they did the @Trial change for global names of trial accounts... it's nice to see a few names locked in inactive Trial accounts when checking for the global.
That'd be nice to free up, eh?
But yeah... I hate these threads... because they're always full of hyperbole, which leads to attacks and counters and rudeness and a mess of a thread.
Fun... -
I had actually done a bunch of work on detailing all of the costume history to look into this myself (completely unsure about what the results would be, myself), but I think I saved it in Google and never finished/posted it...
I do remember that my conclusion was a bit different than yours.
Perhaps I need to find that and post it and see what we all make of it... -
Quote:Yes, yes, yes!Seconded, though our interests will probably differ.
1) Give me a pause, fast forward, and rewind.
2) Let me edit and re-send the demofile without having to fully relaunch the game.
3) Give a "free form camera" mode that lets me move the camera around while the demoscript plays out
Quote:oh, and...
4) Give me a winning megamillions lottery ticket. A small one will do: just enough that I can have the free time to go back to making CoH comics. This 3-hour commute is a great time to think up stories and dialogue, but it kinda makes it tough to implement any of it. -
Power Customization to all Power Pools (General, Epic, Patron, EATs).

Quote:Golly no, not City of Smooth Barbie Dolls! What if America's youth was exposed to the same horrors you find in any five year old girl's toy box!?
Yeah, that excuse/reason is just absurd.
Not saying people wouldn't race to make such costumes, but... So what?
I do not think it would take over the game nor cause any harm.
Things would continue to move along... -
I'd love to see stuff like that implemented some more (if this case is an intentional implementation).
Would be cool to have an arrest power or something, as opposed to just beating on them.
Neat, fluff sort of stuff to some, maybe... but that's what makes pastimes go 'round! -
I've thought these things are really great. Wonderful job!
And I wonder if I might want to have any characters done... However, I always come back to the thought I've, personally, never cared for the whole ragdoll/button-eyes look (for my own stuff, not that it doesn't have a great look of its own)...
But then I see this...

Quote:It makes me look at Marvel's approach, going with the Ultimates separate timeline line of comics, and thinking that was a pretty good way to go for rebooting, while not completely dropping what you have. This my biggest sticking point at the moment as well. It's not just he history of things that have happened to the character, it's the growth of the character from those occurances. Many of these heroes started out as reall two-dimensional characters. Many were defined by their powers, not their personality. But the things that happened to them caused them to grow beyond what they started as. And this relaunch, from what little we know of it right now, seems to be taking much of that history and growth and tossing it to the winds.
Of course, I say this with little-to-no real knowledge of how well they did that and how much of the non ultimate titles continued...
The idea, however, looks pretty golden, in comparison to just dropping everything for a complete wipe/reboot.
Really, a reboot is a wipe... and that is pretty harsh. -
Agreed and I also love (LOVE!!!!) the comments they sometimes freely offer based on things your character has done and whatnot.
Such a great touch to the game.
Just last night, I logged in and before I moved from where I loaded in, a civilian walked by saying, "We love you, Electric-Knight!".
Nice way to start the day of crime fighting!! -
Yeah, getting knocked back requires a whole string of character positional adjustments and include some ragdoll animations.
Best way I've been able to pull it off (and I don't have any of that direct information to share right now), is to go and set yourself up against some low level enemy... face the East/West/North/South direction that you intend to use within the demo record... /demorecord you using a knockback power against the low level enemy.
Then grab JUST the MOV (If I'm remembering correctly, there are some ragdoll commands) and POS files of the enemy you sent flying...
Put them in place for whatever character you wanted to be knocked back in your demo file...
And convert the string of coordinates to the exact numbers needed for the character's required starting position.
It's been a while since I did this, but (after working out a few kinks) this method seemed to work.
I think I may have used one of the Player-Made Demo Editors to do a POS conversion...
But I also recall doing a manual adjustment.
I only needed a straight East to West trajectory (along with up and down), so the numbers were simple to convert (albeit, a bit time consuming).
Best of luck. And I'll see if I can find any of my demo files and things I used to make it happen.
In fact... this reminds me that I still had one shot I never did finish... Maybe I'll make the time and finally finish that.
I do remember things getting a bit screwy and taking more work and time than I had. -
14/10!!
The courtroom drama added an intensity to the humor, nary been seen before within your work!
-
I like them... I don't love them as much as I hoped I would (when I first unlocked them many moons ago), but I can say I like 'em.
I noticed there was something off about their positioning and their use, but I never actually looked into it more to pinpoint it (I don't use claws very often at all).
And...
-
It made me fall.
It hurt.
Although, it does help keep my house in the same place.
(sorry...)
-
Base Editor...
I just can't really put anything else even close to that item on the list.
Using lights and floor tiles and office furniture/cubicles just so I can slowly work around not having a better editor UI gets tiring...
Not to mention all the nifty objects and tilesets and such that could be added...
Never mind additional features and such that could be added...
Really though, that is a Zombie Horse with a baseball bat aura. -
Haha
Bravo!!
Shy? I dunno... But, Avatea, you offered me chocolate... free of charge... combined with how cool and helpful you've always been... that's more than enough to be the best around here (besides, it's not like that says that much... JUST KIDDING).
Hehe, great job, DR!
And here's to the red name with the most! -
Nice lists, SilverAgeFan, hehe.
Since this damn conversation is still going on (no, Paragon Studios, we don't really want any such booster)...
I have to add that Pink Floyd kicked out some great stuff in the 80s as well. With Roger Waters still. And then even Momentary Lapse Of Reason without him has some merit, even with a Waters lover like myself!
It's funny... A while ago, I was talking with a few other musical artists and the conversation covered the idea that, during the 80s, while there was some really cool stuff, it wasn't entirely impressive... But, two decades of music later, and the 80s look pretty damn desirable in comparison.
Oh, hey... May as well add the Sugar Cubes with Bjork to the list, hehe! -
-
Or...
I might just create nuclear tension across the globe, employ several gifted people from various sciences and arts in order to create a believable other-dimensional entity with psychically charged parts that will detonate a devastating psychic death blast when ported into an area...
All to stop this mad violence by bringing people together, once and for all. -
Variety is my main enjoyment.
Those who know me, or have read such comments on the forums, may know that I spend an inordinate amount of time in the costume creator.
I may have fifteen minutes of time before I need to be elsewhere... So, I may just turn on the game to mess with some costume ideas for a quick bit.
These days, I usually only log in to really play (for more than 20 or so minutes) once, maybe twice, a week.
However, I still get my money's worth, as far as I am concerned.
Sometimes, when I do sit down to play, I end up messing with the costume creator for quite a while before logging in.
Other times, I hop on and do some base editing and designing.
This I can spend hours doing, when I feel like it (and, unfortunately, you basically have to spend so much time in order to do it... hehe).
And other times I hop on and join my wife, my friends and SGmates, or complete strangers and run some missions, TFs, Events or the Trials.
Often times, I enjoy running some missions solo. I also enjoy Duo-ing and teams of around 2-5 or so.
I've always enjoyed smaller teams, because it feels more like a superhero adventure, somehow. I like seeing what others on the team do and them seeing what I do.
Of course, whenever I play, I really enjoy role-playing as the character with other people doing the same.
I'm more into playing the game and just role-playing being a super hero (or villain) beating up the enemies, finding clues, solving problems, helping someone with their troubles and whatnot, more than hanging out and role-playing the other aspects of their lives (although, I certainly can enjoy that added in from time to time, no doubt).
I haven't had the time much, but I did enjoy creating story arcs related to my or other people's characters to have nice adventures defined around the characters running them.
And I have SGmates that have enjoyed doing the same.
So...
Variety: Costume/Tailor Stuff, Base Editing/Designing, Role-Playing, Solo-ing, Duo-Ing, Small-Teaming, Big Teaming, Multi-Teaming...
I try and do whatever I feel like at that moment.
Or... drift in indecision for long enough that I've run out of time or get swept away in whichever way the wind is blowing... -
Quote:If any of the paired ones tried that, clipped wings would be the LEAST of their worries...
The females of the species are rather... territorial.
There are worse things to have clipped...
And, somewhat related to the original topic:
Electric-Knight actually had a strong aspect of this sort of stuff in his past.
He fell in love and got married, rather quickly. The combination of the quick marriage, his wife's growing anxieties that grew out of control due to his dangerous lilving, and the Rikti Invasion...
Things got bad before they divorced and the Electric-Knight decided to do his best to never get involved in such a relationship again. He still sticks to his secret identity, for a few reasons (including his parents' safety and his ex-wife's safety, after all)...
But he did discover that maybe dating among supers is not a bad idea... except for the fact that they're (including himself) all pretty far messed up in the head.
He's not a dater, but he's fallen in love a time or three...
As I said earlier... It's great and logical to adhere to the concept of a strict avoidance of attachment and personal relationships... However, it's a completely different thing to succeed in such a practice.
And the Electric-Knight is human... Meta-Human, perhaps, but still human. -

Quote:Ah, is that the cycle? I thought I may have been off!No, no see, you have it wrong. In about three years, Bruce won't be Batman. In five years, he'll go back to being Batman after they cluster-**** everything up again and have to resort to another universe-wide reboot.
They should just make flip books of the entire cycle.
Every few years, everyone can just flip through it.
