Haha, what I was specifically quoting and replying to has nothing to do with role-play.

A part-time jerk is generally a jerk, period.

And, just for the record, I'm not writing names down or filing away profiles of people or anything. For all I know, we could become great friends (or already are) or whatever.
I'm just calling it how I see it.
  2. Welcome to the game!!
I hope, besides that initial annoyance, you end up enjoying it here!

Yep! I thought it was a silly thing for them to do and fortunately it is going away in a few months!
Basically, they wanted to show off the new Praetoria zones and tutorial and have that be the introduction for new players, but I always felt that was a big mistake. City Of Heroe's greatest strength is its large amounts of personal choices to make and enjoy the game the way you want to!
I blame marketing, but, fortunately, new players will be able to start wherever they want again, once the next free issue comes along in a little bit!

Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions that come up!
This community generally falls over itself to help and answer questions.

Also, for a great source of information: paragonwiki.com is very awesome!

You know, I generally respect when people are honest and admit to things, but this particular admission comes with losing any normal amount of trust.

    Not specifically to SentinelBeta:
Also (again I was not there), when you show up to something in progress, it's pretty much common sense to approach things respectfully and see how you can merge/fit into what others may already be enjoying.
Yes, sometimes that can absolutely include storming in with a completely different vibe than already exists.

However, storming in and plopping down to go AFK isn't the most considerate thing I've ever heard of.

I know it is beyond some people's ability, but a little bit of consideration and respect can go a long way towards making the world a little more tolerable.

And yes, this is all talking about the OOC approach.
We are all knowingly people trying to create some fun together and, if you learned about this event OOCly, you don't have to race into it ICly without any OOC concern.

    Inspiration, deviation... and voila!

And, hmm... I definitely agree with the Corrupter: /Traps or Blaster: /Devices.

And Electricity (either way) sounds like the right way to go!

Adding in some of the craftable Temporary Powers would probably add some fun to playing the character. The Plasmatic Taser and the different Grenades should work well, just to add more to your bag of tricks.

Honestly, it sounds like a fun character!

From the little I've seen, the Beam Gun set could be good as well (If you're going to wait for Issue 21, regardless). It seems a bit Electric-y. Enough so that it wouldn't break the theme/reasoning that you had in mind.

Also, you could just level up to 20 and switch sides, if you don't want to wait (and want to go as a Blaster Villain).

  6. So, I should be excluded because some people, of the same sex as me, harass others...

Suddenly, I feel like I'm being discriminated against!!

Can't we all just get along?
(Funny... If I follow that with a "Nudge, nudge, say no more..." it takes on a different meaning in context of this thread... Oh, great... now I'm going to be shunned for this...)

Eh... Okay, in a bit of seriousness...
Being harassed and/or just dealing with rude, stupid, immature and inappropriate stuff sucks and it makes me mad that we have to deal with such things from time to time.

I've had situations where RL friends of mine have run into issues with virtual strangers over-stepping the bounds.
Fortunately, nothing too bad and everything was manageable with a bit of friendly intervention and words to set things straight.

It wasn't on the rude side though. More on the lack of understanding of personal boundaries side of things. Which, some people don't seem to have the ability to recognize.

Directly to the OP (and anyone else who may have to deal with these things):
I highly suggest nipping these things in the bud.
Don't put up with a little bit. Make your opinion clear. Stop it right away.
If this does not bring positive results immediately, /ignore and/or report.
Ditch the Team, League, TF whatever, as no game function is worth any personal hassle whatsoever and no reasonable person could disagree.

If the people respond and behave agreeably afterward, then great. If not... then these are not the kind of people that you want to play with (obviously), so ignore and/or report and move on.
It's not cowardly. It's brave, smart and the right thing to do.
Most importantly... For every rare jerk that is out there, there are tons of reasonable, mature and great players to have fun with.
Don't lump them all together. Dismiss those unworthy and continue to play with and meet the people who are worthy. Everyone will be better for it.

If only someone could compile a list of the possible reasons why this event truly occurred...
  8. Well, I was not around this weekend to make it to this, but I would love to try and make it to other future ones.

As for the problems that arose, I can't comment on any of the particulars, as I wasn't there, but Xanatos certainly posted an excellent bit of advice for running a public event (again, saying that without defending anyone, as I was not there).

I know not everyone is quite comfortable with doing so, but I am a firm believer in saying something over just letting things happen that are against my liking.
A just-moved-in neighbor was planning to chop down a huge, old oak tree. My family was all pissed, but resigned (hey, it's that guy's tree now, what can we do).
I never met him before, but I walked over, knocked on the door and politely asked him to reconsider as it was a beautiful tree and older than both he and I and really contributed to the nice view for not only himself, but for the surrounding neighbors.
He could have slammed the door in my face or whatever reaction he wished, I was prepared for that.
He was kind and greeted me and said he didn't want the leaves falling on his driveway.
The next day, the tree guys came... But when I came home later in the day, the tree was still there with just a few branches trimmed back.

He told me, "I walked out the next morning, looked up and thought to myself... That is a beautiful tree".

No idea why I really went into detail about this...
Other than to suggest... speak up (politely)... and/or use a jedi mindtrick (did I leave that part out?).

Also... Running content with Dechs and Paladin is always fun RP action!
    Wish I was there!

Oh, absolutely! That wasn't meant as a possible negative towards the suggestion of using it for Hurl... I just keep hoping that some day they'll decide to code it to be consistent from client to client. So, I just have to mention it whenever it comes up, hehe.
  10. I like the idea.
One thing that just came to mind though is that the earthy/rock debris effect tied to picking up, throwing and impacting enemies is likely not alterable within a single power with random items (it could be, but I'm thinking it is not). So, some sort of neutral debris effect may possibly be needed for the random option.
I'm not trying to shoot the idea down, just pointing that out and offering a semi-solution )of a neutral effect of some sort).

I have to add one thing... A major gripe of mine is that the random items conjured by Propel (and the Alakhazamreact emote... what else?) are chosen client-side, instead of server-side, so the item is different for every individual player present.
That always takes the fun out of it for me when I see a car and someone else comments about it as a lampshade, hehe (dimensional/temporal/perceptual reality distortions aside).

    A. Tier 9 VIP rewards will rotate out, and new rewards will be added, however because these rewards are always rotating there will never be something that goes ‘unavailable’ for good. You’ll have another chance at getting it if you missed it.
    Thanks again, Unknown_User!

That's the question I wanted to see answered.
This could be bad (notice the stress on "could", as it's just speculation at this point).
Let's say you have to wait 1-3 years for something you love... and then you get there and it is not in the rotation.
I wonder how long of a cycle there will be.
I really didn't expect them to handle it that way for things such as Celestial Armor and whatever fantastically spiffy costume sets they put in there.

This just seems a bit like the old playschool teasing game of holding the carrot over someone's head and pulling it away as they reach for it.

I guess we'll just see how it goes.
  12. HAHA! That is excellent!
    Well played indeed!

Anyway... really, I wanted to just see other people's thoughts without anyone judging anyone (as far as I could help).

    Quote:
...id prefer they use single player models for everything. its a bit more work at the start, but it allows for a lot more flexibility with costumes that then can be given to the players.
Of course, I think you're all out of your bleedin' minds, but who am I to judge... Oh, right... an expert!

Yeah, I'm not so thrilled with the idea, but others seem to be all for it.
    *shrugs*

Rumor has it that Paragon Studios does not make this game solely for me (shocking, I know), so it seems as though I may have to endure!

Also, I think one of the problems I had with the custom AE enemies is the lack of controllable variance among minions and such.

Putting multiple variations of each enemy rank does help a lot.
Still, things tend to look a lot more specific with the player character options (again, I'm only talking about current AE in that regard... I am sure they'll make things more varied when they implement new enemies based around the player rig).

One thing though, someone mentioned the scales for the player rig.

While, indeed, it can allow for a good variance, I am not positive it can cover things well enough. It was actually one of the things I was going to raise in the OP, but felt I'd be going on too long. Like I am right now.
The glimpse we had of the CoT show some rather beefy mages. Maybe if they moved those body scales to the left, I wouldn't be as worried about the future prospects of player rig enemies.

Again, something just seems very samey (I wish I could think of another word to use for that, hehe).

I do, however, see the bonuses and an optimistic result of great variation coming over time.
So, again, I'm not dead-set against anything or angry about it... My initial reaction is negative, but we'll see!

  15. YAY!

Haha, poor Steelclaw... Every time he gets summoned, he has to start his tournament over and delete all of his characters...

Steelclaw: I've been summoned again?? Okay, how many are in this league... Can you PLEASE ALL summon me again, there's 1, 2, 3, 4... Hrm... no, not enough... anyone in a big SG? $@#*!!! *deletes self*
  16. Do you have a preference: human/humoid NPCs with their own custom model rigs or NPCs with the same player model rig?

I recall having some casual discussions about this when the AE first came out.
It was cool to have the chance to create custom enemies, but it was also somewhat disappointing to only be able to use the player character models (Of course, it was also cool to be able to fight against characters made with the player character models, indeed!).
Do not get me wrong, I understand why. This is not a daydreaming post about wishing that we could attach any animation and any costume piece to any model/skeleton.

Now, move on to taking this to enemy NPCs outside of the AE...

Does it matter if they're NPC-only or the same as the Player Character Model to you?

I, personally, find that things look a little too samey when fighting custom enemies in the AE.
While the costume/character creator in this game is tremendous and I love it and I'm not trying to criticize it at all, it has its limitations. Limitations are often needed in order to provide abundant options (funny that!).

Something just always feels weird when I'm fighting groups that are wearing the same exact costume pieces as we have... but, more so, it is the skeleton, the stances and the animations that seem to stand out to me (I could be wrong, but that's how it seems to me).

Anyway, this isn't a complaint thread...
It's actually just a bit of realization on my part that a lot of people have often clamored for more similarity between NPCs and PCs and it's not anything I ever really spoke up about or against.
Seeing a possible result of that particular feedback (in the beta CoT remake), I am curious if this is something (albeit, possibly misinterpreted by the developers) that I possibly should have mentioned my dislike for beforehand (if you catch my drift).

Regardless, I am honestly just curious what others think about enemies with the same skeleton as the players.
Obviously, there will always be enemies that are vastly different than us (well, unless they allow us to become gelatinous blobs or snakes or giant demons or armless hordlings, etc., hehehe).
However, for other humans and humanoids... Skulls, Council, Hellions, Outcasts, Malta, Carnival Of Shadows, Arachnos... Would you notice, would you like or dislike or be indifferent to them being made the same as player character rigs?

(use of models, skeletons and rigs may be improperly placed a few times within this post. My apologies...)

A computer store isn't a place of membership that customers have had a long history with where they spend a ton of their free time for happy fun play time.

You may not feel the ways that I expressed and you may not care about people who do, but it is not a "ridiculous argument".

Some people do not want to hang around a high-priced restaurant just to get the cheap meal.
