yeeeeaaahhh I was about to edit and mention that I didn't watch the show yet...

Still not all that impressive considering 2000 years of history, no dark ages, and advanced knowledge and some of the most knowledgeable people from earth in multiple subjects...

so 2400 exabytes... or 2.4 zettabytes

Not really all the impressive for a race that's at least millions of years old at the point of Destiny's creation... depending on what is in the database.

If we're just talking text and images... that's 2 billion times larger than the books in the library of congress' database

but it's likely not just text... And because of that... not as impressive. We moving towards producing more than 50 exabytes per year... that's only 18 years of data so meh >.>

No, her timeline is reversed to ours.

In other words, to us she was introduced to the doctor first... however in her time line Amy and Rory were introduced first.

We know her future encounters with the doctor
She knows our future stories with the doctors that involve her younger

She made the statement when she "died" or at least at her last meeting with the doctor in reverse order. So she made the statement at a point in her timeline where all that we are getting to know about her, the doctor, amy, and rory, she already knew... and until we reach the "first meeting" that will continue to be the case... It is possible that after that point he or someone figures a way to revive her from the library data bank and they start meeting chronologically >.>

It looks like this is a play on conspiracy nutters...

The Silent = The Men in Black (yes the movie played off of actual conspiracy theory stuff). They have been controlling the world for centuries apparently implying the NWO/Annunaki(reptillian) thing. Then there is the idea that there needs to be a "revolution" and given how the Doctor is he'd likely not do that unless they posed some danger which seems to imply an end of the world type event...such as say 2012.

    There's probably more... such as...

what is it the the alien told Amy? You will tell the doctor what he must know but not what he must not? or something like that

And then with conspiracy theories and it seems they like to last season they always want to play with numbers so....

    908
    909
    1103
    something something 1969
    something something 2011

Any significance in those numbers i wonder?

Also I think it is kinda bad form that the 11th is younger looking than the 10th when River said the 10th was the youngest looking she had ever seen the doctor.
  5. All the movies I had seen and recognized Ledger in I thought he was a good actor.

I think the opinions of people after he died that persist to this day are ridiculous and most people hours before his death could have been found ranting about how **** of an actor he is according to them and that he was going to mess up Joker, ruining the Batman films...

As far as Ledger being or not being a "great" actor... I don't think there are really all that many actors that had roles that you'd consider made them great before their late twenties so meh...

    also... I'd pet that kitty...meow.

  7. Actually, if it was blocked by Gaga or her rep and still released to the public...I'd be suing that guy, both from Weird Al's and Gaga's camp as that type of **** can mess up Weird Al's reputation of being respectful and always seeking out the original performer's authorization which has more or less allowed him to have access to more songs and not be considered in a bad light or get sued.
  8. Canine... yes the japanese companies have pretty much stated that since scanlating and such have become more widely available their profits have gone up... same with many companies that embrace modern distrobution.

I personally find it more pleasurable to read off my PC than to read a book or whatever... and i'm far more likely to buy a digital copy of things than i am a physical copy, especially if there are backs up and such in place that allow for crashes and such. And that is just amplified by the fact that i live with 5 pets and a mother who doesn't understand that books and stuff can be important and moving them around carelessly can damage them irreparably so there is a high chance that just about anything i get physically will be destroyed soon after.

Very very very very very loose

Part 1 of Year one talk about Bruce's first attempt to fight crime after he gets back and he nearly gets himself killed and resigns to die at the end unless he gets a sign, which he gets in the form of the bat through the glass.
Part 2 of Year one has Bruce's first outing in the full Batman costume...a bit of time where he is stopping petty criminal and his first encounter with Gordon and Sarah Esson...who shoots him.
Part 3 of Year One is where the GCPD has him cornered in a building and he escapes, we see Catwoman get inspired, and Gordon questioning himself and the GCPD and whether or not Batman is a bad guy since he obviouslly could have killed several officers but did not.
Part 4 Gordon, Dent, Batman united front begins to forms. Gordon suspects Bruce Wayne of being Batman but buries the files. Catwoman and Batman have their first encounter. People try to kill gordon. Batman saves his son's life. Joker is mentioned at the very ends.

    Batman Begins...
Starts with training in the orient... and flashbacks of parents getting shot, bat in the well, and Bruce thinking of killing someone but then runs away to go train. <- none of this is in year one

Bruce returns and starts putting together the batman suit having taken on the words of ra's that you need to be theatrical and never actually fights crime before the suit is finished and doesn't have the bat through glass thing.

Gordon is already well established in the GCPD. He's not attacked by his fellow officers and he is never saved by Batman nor is Batman shot at by Esson nor does batman save his son...nor do Batman and Gordon meet with Batman posing in different guises.

You know the only thing that is really similar is Batman is chased after at first and he is cornered in a building that he uses Bat sonic thingies to call bats... In the movie version it's to save a woman and he is helped by Gordon... in the comic he is just trying to get away, Gordon is outside and the other officers actually wound other officers because they are firing on Batman.

So really... 1 hugely altered scene and 1 very base level concept of a 4 issue story... yeah not so much is Batman begins Based on Batman: Year One

also i dont think that batgirl: year one would be a good DC animated movie...Batgirl IV animated series or a Robin III/Red Robin animated series would rock and probably bring in a ton of money.

Thanks Forbin, I missed more than I thought I did. I was doing other things at the time and apparently missed those 2 minutes that were incredibly critical to the show that wasn't brought up ever again in the episode. Awesome ^.^

Then to revise my statement then... I'd say that if I remember correctly the older Stargates aren't made of Naquadria like the newer ones are thus don't yield the same resulting bang. I do believe it is said as much earlier in the series, but I can't remember where so I'm not sure.

By the end of the episode we think the stargate on the colony homeworld was either destroyed during a supervolcano eruption like the time in SG: Atlantis, or it was buried in the eruption by debris/lava.
No because there is no indication that the gate wouldn't work... in fact the contrary. They said the reason they couldn't use the gate is due to drawing the drones and they never mention the gate not working or even retrying to get the gate to work.

Must have happened in that half second I looked away that the entire frickin attack took place in.

I'll have to wait for it to come up online and watch for a chunk of the stargate being blown out and it still working.

    ... Really?

Why is there a problem with the gate not working? We know there are several reasons that prohibit a gate from working... like for example being buried by lava... which has happened several times v.v

As far as the drones, it could be hypothesized that the drones are after specific signals and not so much just gate travel or civilization. The Destiny + Gate is likely what caught the drone's attention... not just gate travel.
  14. When you look at what our scientific ability is capable of doing...

A brain being kept alive and hooked up to a machine body
A human brain being hooked into a computer
Nanites that can increase our strength and allow us to hold our breath for over an hour
    Rapid Tissue regeneration
    Brain regeneration
    Organic microchip processors

    Just to name a few.

Do think that, perhaps, the reason the DCU and Marvel, and many other fictional universes, are more advanced than our universe, other than just because it is written that way, is because they have mad scientists actually using their technology in, some ways, immoral ways...

Think about it... If we just had one mad scientist that understood the brain connected to mechanical body thing and pushed the limits without worry of the ethical consequences we would likely have more understanding of how brains worked and how to make cyborgs...

So... could we say that all our fictional universes are actually less moral than we are due to wrecklessly charging forward OR is it that we'e immoral because in not charging wrecklessly forward we cost the lives of those we could save otherwise?
  15. To be fair about Clark-2 being sent back to his home...he's Ultraman there... from this point on he founds the crime syndicate and takes over the world pretty much. The "good" lois lane become Super Woman too...so not only is Clark's anti-evil speech ineffective he kinda royally screwed the world by making the lois of that world like him and thus more susceptible to fall for the evil clark and become Super Woman...
  16. TP sorta had crap translations... just saying...
  17. There can be genetically mutated super strong super smart velociraptors in place of the apes... they aren't going to win over human civilization.

hundreds can not take out billions to such a degree without using nukes. Even the best weapon next to nukes couldn't take out the entire human society to the point where the hundreds could take over.

They'd make a tremendous mess, yes, but they couldn't take out the entire civ and establish their own with those numbers.

And yes there was disease of some sort that killed all the dogs and cats and thus apes and such were used as pets and then they were slowly taught over the years and used as a sort of slave labor. There was also apparently a war of some sort and obviously some of the land masses were messed up.

btw, the only mass death thing that apes could do that would not be "end all life" would be an event that would wipe out the east coast of the USA. That would throw much of the world into chaos and could, if extreme depression set in, make it so a rich person would be extremely rich and a poor person would be reduced to unable to afford anything... Time that so that it happens right at the same moment as oil runs out and humanity would take itself out for the most part but you'd still have pockets of hyper tech...
  18. The Weeping Angels are probably one of the most terrifying creation ever.

They sit there and the look like statues...
You turn away and they move fast and will kill you before you know it...
You can always just keep on looking at them, but then if you stare at them too long you'll become one...

So you look away and get a quick death or keep looking and get a slow death.

Yes, but to a lesser extent for the director. Directors are a bit different in they influence every aspect of the film making process and often have distinct styles and such.

    Example...

I know generally what I'm going to get from a Kevin Smith film with Tom Cruise in it because Kevin Smith has a distinctive style. I don't however know what I'd get out of Tom Cruise in a Kevin Smith film because Cruise only has his performance which is drastically altered by Smith and his editor.

Humans had the ability to think for a long time before we were ever able to do anything with it in terms of our Human heritage.

  20. #1. I think people who go to movies based on who's in it is kinda pathetic.

#2. The movie looks like it's a fail that missed the part in the Planet of the Apes movies where they discuss the process that took place that led to the fall of man. It wasn't some sudden thing... Primates were turned into pets and eventually became smart enough to talk and organize and one struck out and then seems to have formed a cult underground.

That is a lot more realistic, even in today's setting than a few hundred, at best, apes that were genetically altered suddenly went berserk and was able to topple 7 billion humans.

It'd be real easy to do if you moved Pirate just one to the right and then you simply go those across from each other are diametrically opposed to each other while those that are 90 degrees to the right from each other attracted to each other...

    so ...

    Pirate - Treasure Hunter
    Daikaiju - Robot
    Time traveler - Wizard
    Spy - Alien

As for a "a lack of understanding to basic business practices marketing and publishing to be kind about it," (sic)I actually have some knowledge in this area. My wife is a working writer, and is an officer in the local chapter of a national writer's organization. We have had many discussions about the changing world of publishing and the problems writers have in marketing their works, all based upon presentations by published authors, publishers and agents. I probably know more about it than most people, especially since I have read several publishing contracts.

You might want to be a little bit more careful before you accuse someone of a "a lack of understanding to basic business practices marketing and publishing to be kind about it."
Keep in mind that anything after what I said that is wrong is based on a wrong premise, so you really didn't need to write this due to the thing it i replying to doesn't apply.

  24. Knowing and Understanding are very different things.

How many people talk about science, morality, politics, or philosophy without ever understanding what they are talking about but blather on about things like communism and fascism being bad things.

My first comment is more to the fact the OP was asking, "why is a book not being marketed by CoH?" which implies that the book in question is an official product and this implication and thought can be read from the rest of the post. I could be wrong, but the only two ways o understanding the OP is that he's asking "Why is an official CoH book not being marketed?" which means he doesn't understand what he is reading and his comprehension is lacking OR he is asking "Why is book that is made by people that were inspired by CoH not being marketed?" which shows a lack of understanding to basic business practices marketing and publishing to be kind about it.

Further more, being literate, while it implies you comprehend, it is not absolutely the case that you do. So, restated in our new vocabulary...

"I want to commend you for your literacy...

However, it is important that you comprehend the words you choose to read and speak >.>"
  25. I want to commend you for reading books...

However, it is important that you understand the language if you are going to read the books in a particular language >.>

Also, i forget how legal this type of advertisement actually is... That book may soon find itself off shelves due to having that stuff on it.
