I get it, lots of people want the power to walk, but frankly I dont get it. Why is it such a big cool thing to "walk" in game?
-
spawn mod, id go to atlas and spawn Hamidon right in the middle of atlas under the statue, then id run the LRSF and spawn Hamidon under the atlas statue in the last mission and watch the fun.
teleport AVs off a cliff or create a map hole and kite the AV into it
make all the zombie apocalypses start off with doing the Thriller dance (cant be attacked till their done)
paintball mode for blasters
I'd make an easter event where thousands of bunnies are hopping all over the zone and both heroes and vills get a mish to cull their growing numbers. I'd do the same for thanksgiving but with turkeys of course.
pulling from one of my favorite video game weapons (southpark N64) a temp power that roots and makes the target do a silly dance
replace MM robots with storm troopers
I could think of a million more but i need to get to bed. -

I just had to respond to this: Art forms have existed in many forms through out time and the complete package of video games has many art forms melded together to create the over all art form.
there is:
Illustration - textures, environment, effects
Lighting -dark tunnels in a cave, bright sunny day at the beach, dark clouds and an over looming shadow of the villain.
Music - environmental sounds, sound effects for movement, weapon fire, interaction sounds such as a computer beep
Animation - encompasses most aspects of cinematography, story boarding, scripting, framing, blocking, props, etc. this also often is the stage that illustration and lighting are integrated even if its just to frame things out and make sure the project is moving in the right direction. In the old days street performers would entertain crowds with puppets, something that has evolved today with digital representations but there are still puppet masters behind every animators computer.
In short, I personally believe that video games ARE an art form in such a way that not 1 artist but many collaborate with a like mind to present many art forms in one package.
yes there are plenty of games that have poor quality in many and some times all areas of art with in a video game but the quality does not change the fact that it still is art. they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. a prime example is a childs drawing or glued macaroni art. it may not be worth much if any to most people but if it was from your child it would be hanging proudly from your fridge.

To be fair, the build I currently have was a build that some one helped me with, I don't have the knack for dealing with the stat stuff (I had anxiety attacks in math classes in college). I am basically focused on maxing AoE damage and not as concerned with single target damage. I would like to beef up my shields but as it stands right now I generally don't have a major issue with dying. Healing flames comes up fast enough that its always up when I need it but I find that consume isnt up to par IMHO with the recharge rate that healing flames has.
my main taunt and AoE combo is:
combustion -> burn -> fire sword circle and I find it very effective. combustion throws the taunt on them so when i lay down burn they start to run but immediately run back into the burn just in time to use fire sword circle and that usually takes down most mobs and any left over are barely alive.
I went with pyre mastery more for thematic reasons than anything else. I absolutly love Fireball as its a great way to range taunt a mob or act as an alpha attack on a mob im running into to make sure they focus on me before the rest of the team. I also use Fire Blast to single target taunt but Char I rarely use. I think because Char feels like it doesn't do its job most the time when I use it but figured it would be better than just an immobilize like Ring of Fire does.
My play style is NO PvP, its not my thing and I don't farm. I do allot of teaming and soloing. I am only talking about purples since as far as I know they are the best way to maximize my abilities. I am not as concerned with maxing health or what not but more interested in resisting stat effects such as holds, mez, elemental damage etc. I am sure I won't be able to become the "I Win Button" toon but I wouldnt mind getting close. Is that enough info? -
the main reason im asking for help is because I am just not a numbers man by any means. sure I could go for full sets of the most expensive purps but there arent enough slots to do that and so question of how many slots to do per power and what parts of purp sets to use. just not something that is easy for me to fallow.
as for my power selection, its there for a reason. I have been playing this toon for over 4 years. next month I will be getting my 51 mo vet badge. so I do know how to handle my tank. Its not what you have, its what you do with what you have. so for any one like Darkness3221 out there just consider yourself ignored, I'm only interested in civilized responses. -
I'm interested in using my alt build to work on making a purped out Du! can any one help me figure out the ultimate build? all powers are selected for a reason. The ONLY powers Id be ok with changing are the ancillary powers. I had to make that last sentance stand out because there is always some one trying to tell me to take X power instead and thats not what I am looking for. Below is my current build. PURP ME BABY, yeah.... you know you want to!

what I want to know is how this is going to affect us badgers
-
Well there are QoL threads for costume parts and weapons. Now that there is power colorization we will probably get theme requests. Maybe they should just grab all the request threads and make it in a section all on its own outside of the "Just for Fun" Threads.
-
I don't post any where near as often as I read the forums. Most of my time is spent playing the game and looking at Dev posts and the test server. There have been a few things that just irked me and never seam to be touched upon so here goes...
1. Let the detectives / brokers give us cell numbers! We go all over the city/islands and do all this work for them but they never trust us with their phone number. Just because we get spammed with RMT junk doesn't mean they will if they give us their number.
2. When at Wentworth / Black Market please give us a "max" or "total stack" button when we drag our salvage or recipes into the transaction slots. Its real annoying to have to:
A. Order the list of salvage by amount and move salvage in order by which ever is the highest first after manually moving the slider to the max.
B. Move the slider all the way to the right on every item we have more than 1 of.
3. Let us set the "list by order of" selection for salvage and recipes so it doesn't always default to the last selection on the list. I never use the default and have to manually change the sort order every time.
4. Please find a better category for the "Suggestions and Ideas" then the "For Fun" section. Honestly it makes us (well at least me) feel like our suggestions aren't taken seriously and that the Dev's don't care what we think. Maybe move it under the Developer section?
I know there are more that I had in mind but can't remember at the moment. I may come back and edit the list after I get in more play time heh. Thanks -
one problem I see with all the product placement? WHY CANT WE GET IT FROM THE COH STORE??
-
I know this is going to be an echo of other posts but heres my two cents on the new event.
1 The new event brings me back to the nostalgic lag days of early Hamidon raids. And no this is not seen as a good thing. There definitely is a serious lag issue with the event.
2 The banners and the magic sigil around it looks awesome. the guardians of the banners? its a grab bag of random rehash. please tell us these are place holders and this isnt going to become "City of Recyclables".
Even if you just change the colors of them to make them feel like they are there for a reason.
3 There definitely needs some form of story behind this part of the event. While I never knew they story behind the Zombie Apocalypse (was there one?) the event was pretty clear; zombies are attacking on Halloween. KILL 'EM. The premise behind that felt more on the common knowledge that Halloween and zombies fit together and it was simple enough to just take it at face value.
This new event however is not a natural tie into Halloween and feels off with out a back story in some form, even if its the Bannor Defenders dialog durring the fight.
4 The GM needs an indicator on the map, even if it only pops up the first time its attacked so the rest of us know. I was on a team looking for it all over the zone and by the time we found it another team who never said anything had it down to 1/4 health and our team couldnt get the badge. -
-
good to know they are aware and working on it.
My SG was running Positron TF and at one point the loading screen failed to have any progress at all. so while I was waiting i played 2 games of FreeCell and decided to kill the program. 3 more tries, 2 different missions, 1 character of mine not on the TF and some others in local chat were having the same issue so I just called it a night. -
personally I think its high time they let us access the vault across all toons on the same account and let us store recipes, inf, and enhance there for our other alts to access.
-
been running into the same problem myself. I wasn't sure if it was a technical error or if it was a closed beta tactic to keep non closed beta players from accessing the char creation screen. the latter would make sense since this issue deals directly to the functionality of that screen so I would not be surprised if this was a special case to purposely not let us access that part of the game even though it was previously allowed.
-
and a new costume part.. "over the shoulder boulder holder" :P
-
I have a feeling I was stupidly thinking of the Champions Online preorders *hangs head and grabs the dunce cap on the way to the stool in the corner*
-
ok I think im confused but I could have sworn there was a post talking about what you got from diff retailers when pre ordering going rogue like they did with the CoV preorder. any one anything about this or where I can find it?

AE is a huge disaster.

News to me!
Please explain how MA has "alienated the desired player base"?
[ QUOTE ]
Any average player that has been with the game for a few issues can plainly see just how dramatic a negative affect it has had on the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've been with the game since August of '04, and I don't see this dramatic negative effect. I do see a lot of positive, though, so even if the negative effect exists, MA can hardly be called "a disaster".
Are you claiming that the regular content has been abandoned?
Because I can tell you with absolute certainty that it hasn't been.
From my vantage, the only potential problem MA has introduced is making power-leveling too easy to pull off.
If that is a problem, the developers will address it, just as they've done in the past.
[/ QUOTE ]
first I would like to ask what server you play on as this could be a big difference in the way you see the impact differantly than I. Personally I play on Freedom. that being said here are my observations on how MA/AE has caused major issues with the player base.
before I14 Paragon Island is where you went if you wanted to find farming activity. fortunately there are many zone options for lvl 45-50 character play options if farming chatter was a negative personal play factor for you. Now if you go to Atlas Park the broadcast chatter is dominated by high level characters or aspiring high level characters all barking for farming related business.
the very fact that there are many forums about people having issues with the AE buildings in Atlas Park should tell you that just because you don't see it as a problem then it doesnt mean there isn't one. for new characters there are only two options for their starer zone; Atlas Park and Galaxy City. While some may say that GC has an AE building just like AP, let me point out that as a MMO it is a social game and where the majority goes the greater the desire to go there too. Yes people do start in GC but if you want to find others for a team your more than likely going to be heading to Atlas Park, Hallows or Kings Row any way. While we are at it AP is where you go for costume contests and the fast track Sewer teams to get you on your way as a growing character.
For new users this can be very intimidating and confusing having such high level toon's looking for teams in the same zone as some one who is celebrating thier first earned level outside tof the training room. this is not the kind of environment we want new players to be exposed to if we want this game to stay alive, nor is it desirable for regular core players.
as for the other zones and regular content again I ask what server you are on because on Freedom (one of the more popular servers) the typicaly busy zones before I14 are now very quiet. it is not unusual to cruise Talos Island and have broadcast be non existent.
The auction house is also negativly affected by AE as the player base has dried up due to the direction the game has been going or lack of players playing regular content enough to team with. salvage and recipes are being put up for sale by the hundreds and thousands with few to no buyers.
I know you havent seen these things but look around. its happening or it wouldnt be such a controversy now. -
in allot of ways the direction this game is going reminds me of the whole "cheat device or no cheat device" in the early 80s video games. back then games had cheats that could be accessed by an external device such as a game shark, game genie or action replay. it was also common to find cheats programed into games to be unlocked.
on one side of the fence people say that cheats were good to keep games interesting and also more fun (god mode in Doom or paint ball mode in Golden Eye any one?) on the other side of the fence people felt that cheats made games unfair and ruin game play experience with the instant gratification factor.
In the end after all is said and done its about as solvable as gay rights, abortion or legalizing pot. so to each his own. that works well and good for games at home or arcades but bring it to an MMO and you have the recipe for disaster.
flashbacks and the AE content are both examples of trying to "give the customer what he wants". I could also point out that so is everything else in the game. The reason I bring up these two content features however because they are what I feel are examples of give them what they want, not what they need. Personally I think they added flashbacks as a grand attempt to please the customers. It apparently wasnt what the player base needed however as as far as I can tell is largely used as a fast track teleportation between zones.
AE is a huge disaster. the thought behind it was genuine I believe but also very game breaking that has alienated the desired player base. Any average player that has been with the game for a few issues can plainly see just how dramatic a negative affect it has had on the game.
I know the devs want the game to work but I would have to causion the devs to find a way to not make the AE feature to NOT be the center of content for the game and if it hasent happened by the time "Going Rogue" comes out then I fear for the existence of CoX. -
I sent a PM to BABs about this and haven't heard back yet but with the new costume change emotes I hope that we get to make secondary costumes for custom critters (like EBs and AVs) that use costume change emotes triggered by an event such as being discovered or health dropping below X%

1. Traffic on the beach road takes me hours to drive home.. yet hardly anyone travels the 1 block back road. Perhaps if they move the tourist atractions ab lock off the beach I can drive the beacvh road with less traffic. ... Hmm sounds to me like you should either enjoy th eslow ride or, I dunno take the other road maybe?
[/ QUOTE ]
there is a difference between changing an attraction ion real life versus a virtual one where you can just flip a few switches.
[ QUOTE ]
2.Many people do not have set up that can handle the lag. Yet still choose one of the 2 most populated servers to play on. O.O
Favorite line: But there is no one on the other servers.. this has been said to me by group of friends (10 of them standing around atlas, note that 8 is max limit for a team) all complaining of lag, but no one on other server to play with...hmmmmm.
[/ QUOTE ]
some people enjoy the quietness of the other less populated servers but most prefer to play with friends and where there is more of a social presence. whats my proof you may ask? well for 1 this is an MMO in case you forgot and 2 there are servers that are more popular than others because players LIKE to be around others or there would not be any server more popular than another.
[ QUOTE ]
3. Trust me. Of all the game content it does not "encourage" farming the most. For me that would be say desire to by IOs. Or to have purple sets (unobtainable without farming, well unless your char is on the 5-10 year plan for slotting)...badges..etc. In fact altho the new players are mostly unaware.. the MA xp nerfs has once again made the most profitable farm in Atlas the sewer run again.
And main reason for placement in first zone is it was meant as alternative to the regular game for those who have experienced the lower lvl content 100s-1000s of times.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry but the access to make your mission any way you like and be able to do it over and over with out losing the mission being placed right where your new character spawns after creation is inviting farming with wide open arms intentional or not. Don't believe me? go to Atlas Park on Freedom. broadcast chatter has more farm talk by high levels than lowbie chatter. I am also willing to bet that there are more high level characters in Atlas than lowbies who are in Atlas lvl range.
[ QUOTE ]
4. shifting the problem..hmm that could work.. kinda like when you put all the dirty dishes in the next room... just as good as cleaning them, right?
[/ QUOTE ]
your analogy is completely off base and has no relevance to the topic. First of all there are 2 starter zones. Atlas the popular one and Galaxy City which is usually a ghost town (at least on Freedom). Galaxy has an AE building but its seeing little use. All I am suggesting is shift the high player traffic from an already busy starter zone to the ghost town of Galaxy to balance things out and in the process bring some life back to Galaxy.
