Welcome to a strange turn in altitis
Last night my wife, was playing City of Heroes, and she told me that a friend of hers had decided to make a character and use mainly power pool powers.
She then said do you want to? Well after a few seconds of thinking sure why not...
I rolled up a fire/force field controller thinking well...at the most I have been wanting a fire/ff, and you don't "need" many regular powers from the secondary.
Our friend rolled a stalker (I forget which sets) and my wife rolled a claws/electric scrapper ((why because unless its an empath ((which gets played as a scrapper)) everything is a scrapper))
So I would love to hear so input on, well anything about what sort of ATs would make, I hesitate to use the word good, characters, perhaps best..use of these power choices, or what power sets....etc.. -
First off, I don't care one way or the other about KB, (so why am I posting here?) but I think most people who are playing this game don't care either..
I have been playing almost 7 years (back right after the second update)...and I can count maybe three times I had someone on a team complained about KB, and that person was jumped because the offending KBer was a PB and well most his powers has KB.
Turn it on or turn it off, don't care if someone gets kicked for KB, I will quit as well, and have. not because I am pro KB (personally as long as the mob dies errr arrested its all xp baby) but because its my 15 or so dollars and not yours to tell me how to spend it, only the Devs can do that because I agreed to their conditions to play this addiction of mine.
I would do the same if someone insists that all powers have their KB turned off, I would quit after explaining in no uncertain terms as to why and if anyone else feels this way, join me on a new team.
And to be honest I think most players feel the same way. -
Stop giving the keys to the store to the marketing team.... love the Charleston Chews, one of the cool candy bars when I was a kid because it appeared you got so much more candy for your nickle, and in my days a quarter could get you a charleston chew, a loaf of bread, some ham, a bag of chips..but then they had to put in those damn cameras..however I like SA on my rad/dark blaster a great set up jump in knock down some baddies drain, then ground zero baby...

Quote:You could also modify the crash in various ways: see Burnout.
I honestly think, though, that in a game that allows Elude and Unstoppable, the tier 9s could do a lot more for blasters. But to do more, without breaking the unspoken rule that blaster offense cannot be allowed to be too powerful, irrespective of how powerful anything else already is, and without altering the powers in a way that would take enjoyment away from the people currently using them, would require some innovative design trickery.
For example, take Nova. Suppose I were to say that I had a way, without adding any code at all, to redefine Nova so that the longer you don't use it, the stronger it gets. So lets say you log in, and use Nova (just to make the discussion simple). Nova takes 360 seconds to recharge without recharge buffs: lets go with that number for now. After 360 seconds, Nova is fully recharged and can be used again. But suppose 360 seconds later, if you don't use it, Nova becomes twice as strong. And suppose 360 seconds later, Nova became three times as strong. The less you use it, the stronger it gets. If you try to use it too often, though, like as a farming tool, it doesn't hit as hard.
In all other respects Nova would work the same, so people who like Nova now would like the new Nova in all likelihood: it would work the same but occasionally hit harder. Those using it as a panic button and not a normal offensive weapon would get better panic button performance.
That sort of thing is actually doable, I believe, within the current game engine. I think ultimately it will take some radical outside the box thinking to make the crashing nukes worthwhile without detracting too much from their current usage for existing players.
Yeps, I would sign onto that -
mind/earth is fun too..standard group of three...mez one, dominate the other the third target lev. and hammers bigger groups mass hypnosis start locking down while killing mez. last a longgggg time right out of the box

@Labrynth LOL So the secret to becoming a boss is knowing when to run

all good Cult of Personality dictators, have a fall guy, someone to make the evil necessary decisions then you out this "traitor" and are now fixing his treachery, if said treachery makes you the savior then so be it
Machiavelli writes a beautiful little guide to how to be a beloved despot called the Prince, and he mentions the importance of having a left hand man to do the dirty work and then is punished -
All this talk of Ogre, is making me want to play The creature that ate Sheybogan

I have a few sonic/mm and since the blast tend to originated from the head, I pretend the sonic blast are psychic in origin. And I love the whole put em to sleep+drain+nukex2 routine as well

I would like to see, for heroes a corruption, light, system. You do some missions for one of the big name villains, who are giving you a taste of what you could be...Look at the power, the sheer freedom you could have without those pesky shackles of morality, oh wouldn't it be nice to be able to turn off the bat signal and get an extra couple of hours of sleep, or shouldn't you only save people worth your time and effort? Then at the end of this arc, you could choose to become a villain or not but in order to keep those granted powers you have to beat said villain in a mission. Then have Recluse chuckling from behind the screen where he was watching this whole sick play, about how you have proved his Might makes right theories...MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
just a thought -
The problem, IMHO, is as much as some hate things becoming homogenous, most people (yes I know you aren't one of them), like things to be the same. Ask any advertising person, and see how quickly the powers that be are quick to emulate (hell out and out copy) a success. Do I want a Defender that can support a team, blast, oh and now has mez protection and a blaster level nuke? Hell, yes I do. And to be honest so would almost everyone else. A lot of people like coke-cola, a lot of people like pepsi-cola. I dislike the way the path CoH has chosen, but I will still be playing it until they turn the lights out.
Why? The game does promote, being the same. FOTM builds and how many SS/FA brute farmer threads are out there, bear this out. However and this is the why I will always be a paying and playing customer is, I don't have to be this way. I don't play the incarnate system and politely tell people that ask, no thank you. If I want to try and solo a force fielding/electric blaster, I can. I have a SS/FA brutes, and lots of other FOTM builds, because I wanted one. I may someday try the incarnate system, hell I might tomorrow, (I drink an awful lot of coke and pepsi). I don't have to, and until they force a path down my throat for the majority of the content in this outstanding addiction I call a game, then I will always be bleating member of the flock, that just happens to stray a lot. And to be honest deep down wouldn't it be fun to have a tankmage? -
mmmms statues lots of vitamins and minerals in statues
-
If they change inferno, I would rather see it become an uber fireball attack, rather than a PBAoE. Part of the balance for increased damage is the fact you have to be eyeball to eyeball with your targets to use it.
-
umm is it also a double xp weekend coming up as well? I hope you have up dated the servers fire suppression system as well
-
I know this isn't an optional choice, but depending upon how high/modern tech you want to go..I like Archery/Dark..it lets you use old school tech(or upgrade with weapon design ie composite bow with laser sight). I have several Witch of Locksley style characters.
-
Well, I could see an SoA in a purely support role, fire support.
-
I would suggest a sonic/mm, the fx for sonic has a lot of circles coming out of your head, siren's song makes a fun safe way to get in use drain, then nuke for crashless blue bar fun

Quote:The actual attack's name on the Beam Rifle set is called Disintegration (if memory serves).
