I used to agree and then I fired up Hero Stats and found that Icicles was doing more damage than any other power. Yeah each tick of damage is small but they add up.
  2. I soloed it with my ice/storm troller at X8. Romulus and pals were a huge PITA but I did get them all.
Overall it was one of the most fun and memorable missions Ive ever done. Massive numbers of enemies everywhere and a real challenge.

Really? That's cool. I have to say though that with 85% resistance plus the defense I built through IOs I'm never so low on health that I'd have noticed. PB with perma lightform is one tough toon.
  5. I know I already commented but I just have to say again THE MOVEMENT BINDS ARE AWESOME!!!

It's gone a long way to solving my ice/storm troller's mez hole, has made my fire/fire tank good against +4/x8 and added power to my f^3 blaster.

They are especially good when soloing as the inspirations just flood in. Having the movement binds auto-combine them into whatever is most useful means using a resource I was only able to make moderate use of before. My previously somewhat squishy fire tank now has at least 2 purple inspirations on at all times making him a rock.
  6. That is great info! I've never bothered with the boosters because using them is such a slow process but a 25% gain in enhancement value spread across all the enhancements that will take it (even discounting for ED) that's a notable boost.
  7. I very much like World of Confusion on my Ice/storm troller. It blends well with Arctic Air to keep the aggro off of me.
That said, when I forget to turn on Arctic Air I die instantly, when I forget to turn on World of Confusion I just notice I'm taking more damage than usual. Due to the small radius I'd say World of Confusion is maybe 1/4th as effective as Artic Air. i'm not sure that on it's own it'd be a good power for most people.

Now THAT would be nice. Even if it meant using a few precious slots being able to change KB to KD would make a number of sets more playable in teams. Having to slot to turn KB to KD would allow those who like the KB to keep it while allowing those who don't want it to get rid of it by using a slot.

As an Ice/Storm I RELY on that -KB to keep groups from scattering due to my tornadoes and hurricanes. My favorite toon is built around this power and it would totally break my toon to remove the KB.

Right now I jump in the middle of large groups allowing arctic air and world of confusion to have them fight each other. Rooting them with frostbite is essential or the tornadoes and hurricanes would push them out of Arctic air's radius and I'd be toast. This play style works frightfully well (I fight +2 or +3 X8) and is loads of fun but it is totally dependent on spamming that -KB.

That said, I totally agree that the -KB makes ice slick useless and that stormies are a small percentage of ice controllers. Further ice/stormies who fight in melee range are rarer still. So if they change it I'll understand. I'll be depressed at losing such a fun toon, but I'll understand.
  10. What an amazing guide! I wish i had seen it 3+ years ago when it was first posted. Attaching inspiration combinations to the movement commands is insanely effective as your inspirations seemingly combine themselves as you move around.

This is like finding a new power for all my toons. My 50s always had full trays as I got insps faster than I could use them and I certainly didn't want to take the time to combine things. Now they just all turn into whatever insp (or couple of insps) I want most. amazing.

    Thanks for posting this!
  11. I just took my PB out of mothballs (so old he didn't even have any IOs). I lightly IOed him with whatever was cheap and gave him a spin and it was pretty good.

Then I saw TwoheadedBoy's post and liked it enough to do a respec. Previously I learned my lesson that spending 10+ Billion on a build I saw in the forums often turns out pretty meh so I've only partially IO'd my PB (no Purps, PVP or KntkC'bat yet).

He's a MONSTER. Even before I got my alpha slotted with Agility I was in a large room with 100+ of the new clockwork. Some jerk (the NPC States, I think) aggroed the entire room. The tanks and brutes went down and I just kept on fighting. I had about a 5 second gap in lightform and the 4th time it went down they whacked me before it recharged. I popped right back up with restore essence and fought until they were all dead. Now that the alpha is slotted I don't even have that gap anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the build. I'm enjoying it greatly.
  12. Bidding on items that don't exist is a great idea. Thanks!
  13. Between 2X weekend and the new release I'm swimming in cash. Maybe 10 or 15 billion without really trying to save it. My problem is with the 2 Bil limit where is the best place to keep it all until I decide to outfit a new toon?

Currently I'm keeping the vast bulk of it in email I've sent to myself. Is there a better place?

For my play style I totally agree. I don't love glacier because you have to be on the ground to use it and I'd rather use my well slotted hover (making it faster than regular running) and it's got a slow recharge. But when it's up it stops a group cold (pun intended).

Of course, for me Flash freeze is worse than useless. People can't seem to sleep around me what with all the lightning, tornadoes and freezing rain.
  15. I've been playing and ice/storm for a LONG time and he's one of my two favorite toons. My build and play style is unconventional but he's incredibly potent. Almost as potent as my F^3 blaster but more fun to play.

At the moment he is ice/storm/psi because mez protection from IOs wasn't hacking it when I'd solo (which I generally do at +1X8). But Ice mastery was also great and I really miss Hibernate and ice storm.

The play style of this toon is to spam frostbite (usually set on auto) so as to keep anti-KB on a group while I jump in and let my tornadoes and lightning storm loose. Ice storm made a great addition to this before I respeced out of it. Arctic air and world of confusion work great for keeping aggro off of me while I'm in the middle of them.

Now, a few notes about powers.

I didn't take shiver because I hate the power. It's been like 5 years since I used it and I probably should try it again but I remember it being slow and ineffective.

Usually I don't have both fly and superspeed but I respeced into them recently because fly fits the character well and super speed lets me stealth areas (although a stealth IO would work just as well).

Hurricane and ice slick get little use as hurricane moves people I don't want moved and ice slick is ineffective as I have everyone immobilized. They both really only get used in teams and hurricane only in AV battles or to block and area (especially in the ITF to keep the engineers from rebuilding the towers).

World of Confusion is much hated power around the forums but I find it a nice addition to arctic air although I don't much like the bubble animation to it. Still, it's the anti-mez of the set I'm really after.

Thunder clap doesn't get much use. I always think it should be great as I'm always in the middle of a group and this would stun them all but in reality I always have a damage attack ready and since everyone is so confused I hardly need them stunned.

One VERY IMPORTANT note. Get the cardiac alpha slot ASAP. This is an end heavy set and the cardiac alpha makes a tremendous difference.

Also, note that Glacier has the ATO (not catalysted) in it. Apparently Mids doesn't support that yet.

Anyway, have fun! I think it's a great character to play!

You'll see some changes in the combat window. For instance, when a Cardiac reduces the amount of end on toggles you'll see END consumption/sec go down. You'll also see the difference from resistance enhancers in that window. You should also see higher regen from a +heal.

You WON'T see damage, accuracy or recharge incarnate enhancements in that window (although you will see it on the individual powers in the MANAGE window).

Really the key is that if it's something you'd see in the combat att window if you added an enhancement to an existing slot on a power and you won't see it if adding an enhancement to an existing slot wouldn't show it.

So, add an END enhancement to Blazing Aura and you'll see your overall END consumption/sec reduced in the combat att window. Add a damage enhancement to Blazing Aura and, even though it does more damage, you won't see anything change in the combat att window.

There's probably a clearer more succinct way to explain this, but that's how it works.

Spam holds, make sure tornadoes and Lightning storms are always cast as soon as they appear. Debuff with hurricane. Hit him with Ice Storm (from my APP).

It's really important to whack his clones as soon as he creates them as they power his regen. As soon as they pop up I hold them and but a tornado on them.
  18. I did an ITF the other day where a stalker (yes, a STALKER) was out herding large groups of traitors into the battle with Rom so they could die via AoE as we killed him. I have to say I was amazed. I've never seen a stalker build before that could survive the alpha let alone survive to herd large groups in.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't note what primary/secondary she had.

In any case, my knock against every stalker I've ever made has been how squishy they are. I guess I'll have to take another look now that I've seen how tough they can be.

Conserve Power is 186.3% endurance reduction to endurance costs. Cardiac is a 30 to 40% reduction (I forget exactly how much) when you reach top level. Which is better?
Exact calculations aside, I think this will be much more true when we get rare and very rare alpha slottage and the non-ED portion goes up to 1/2 and then 2/3rds. Things like Conserve Power are generally already heavily recharge slotted so don't gain full advantage from the Alpha slot.

On the other hand, few IO sets (even the purples I have slotted) get close to ED on endurance so, at least for now, Cardiac reduces end on all of my powers and for most has the full 33% effect. Recharge wouldn't do much for my toggles (which are generally always up) so it only affects a portion of my powers and those tend to be heavily slotted for recharge already so it only affects them partially.

Now, when we get rare and very rare alphas the calculus will change and will definitely get another look.
Plus, one of the great things about alpha slots is I can get both and play with them to see which works better in practice instead of just in theory.

I have a monster regen scrapper who is amazingly tough to kill and is one of my favorite toons.

Still, I have to say that WP is "more powerful". With resistance, defense and regen it just has more layers to deal with damage. Moreover, it has more things to enhance with IOs and an easier time getting to the soft cap.

I feel a bit like a traitor, but I'd have to go WP.

I logged in just to say the EXACT same thing. I got my 8th shard (I had a common from the ITF) in the middle of a solo mission and created the cardiac right there. BOOM! I went from gasping for breath to having end to spare. "Night & day" are exactly the words I was thinking.

This is the 3rd toon I've equipped the alpha slot on. My claws/regen scrapper saw some gain from the regen/health (got it up to uncommon) but nothing to crow about and my Fire/Fire/Fire blaster didn't notice a lot from the +dam but what a tremendous difference the cardiac made to my ice/storm troller.
  22. I kept respecing back and forth between bane and crab. I'm a big AoE fan so I really wanted to like crab but somehow they just didn't hit hard enough and I'd always go back to bane.
After hitting 50 and getting IOed out I decided to try my 2nd build with crab and this time I loved it. In fact, I'd vote crab the best all-around build. Durable, great team buffs and able to mow down large swaths of enemies.
That said, the bane is what I always wanted the stalker to be. VERY hard hitting but much better at burst than AoE. Because it's slightly squishier and has much less AoE damage than the crab I'd vote the crab the better overall AT. That said, the bane is a solid AT and much better at taking down tough single targets.
