Quote:There's a modest CoX community on LJ:If you have any suggestions, please feel free to leave them in this thread. I'll try to review it and add it to the list if it's appropriate.

Quote:Yeah, taking the Cosmic Cube out of play takes a huge Thanos v. Avengers arc off the table.Looking ahead, I'm not sure how they're going to deal with Thanos in 2.5 hours if he gets his hands on the Infinity Gauntlet (which I'm inclined to believe he will since it appeared in "Thor").
But it's not impossible that other hero's films will set up the all the background from Avengers 2 and their dealing with Thanos. -
That's exactly the same question much of the playerbase has been asking itself for years.

Quote:You forgot Paragon Wiki. It's not necessary at all to run missions to get the story/dialog.Right now, only the leader reads mission dialog. If it was very involved and actually fun to run through the dialog trees, mission owners would face a devil's choice: run them solo so you can take in the dialog at your own pace and never invite other people to play with you when running those missions, run them teamed and skip most of the dialog so people don't have to stand around and wait for you, or run them teamed and make your team suffer while you spend minutes running through the dialog. Or run them with teams skipping the dialog and them running the entire thing again solo in Ouroboros so you eventually get to see the dialog.

Marvel has figured out how to make superhero movies - while Green Lantern was a comic book movie. The difference is important.

Enough of the team-up teleporter already.

Quote:So, now they'll have to dig through this forum too... and this is an improvement, how?Recently, I've spent time talking to people who were new to the game, and even asking people, where can I find builds (I was incognito of course). Very few folks could point me to one place, the usual response I got was "On the forums...." and when I asked "Yeah, but which forum" the response was almost always "I don't know" or "You have to really dig through the AT and General forums".

Yep. And most people commenting here seem to be unaware that a lot of those rules and regulations are based on laws and regulations that said third parties have absolutely no control over whatsoever. It also doesn't seem to occur to them that said third parties would *love* to enlarge the scope of the contests - because that means they can attract more people people to their site which is the whole point of the contest in the first place. They don't limit them capriciously.

Quote:If you want to simplify the forums, don't start with the easy-to-understand AT forums. Start with "For Fun!" or "Player Help" or "Development". Start with the (used by a minority) Server forums.I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying. There's a rather large amount of forums to sift through here on our boards, and to a new, or even veteran player who hasn't spent time on the forums, it's a bit confusing.
Forums should be easy to understand at a glance.
Making the forums "easy to understand at a glance" seems to be pretty weak reasoning when you let those other forum subgroups stand. I suspect a more accurate statement of the reason would be "to make the forums match the character creation screen". -
Quote:Since Beta is open and the NDA lifted - is there any particular reason you don't describe the bugs in question? There are showstopping bugs in beta.
There are showstopping bugs in beta.
Other than that, I'm with the posters who doubt the feature will return. The dev's track record on such things is not a good one, there's always a new shiny on the horizon that Marketing wants them to work on. -
I have to call this one a miss - by a country mile. While the costumes are indeed awesome, they scream "21ST CENTURY" and "GENERIC BAD FANTASY ART" rather than whisper "ancient mystic group". You haven't (in Posi's words) made them "feel more magical, spiritual, thorny, spiky, and most of all, evil", you've just made them look silly and generic.
I don't think you understood the nature of the playerbase's complaints at all. You took a few bullet points, but you missed the underlying themes and contexts altogether. -
Quote:I have been in sorta the same situation, from the players side. In that game, the players almost to a man laughed at the dev's and went about their business despite significantly inflated incentives.Anecdotaly speaking...
I've experienced a situation where a development team tried through various methods to encourage players to play one faction vs another faction, for the purpose of balance. Now in the situation I've experienced, it was key to the way the game worked, crucial in fact, on a level that does not apply to CoH.
What was said about players playing what players want to play usually rings true. Inflated incentive can only do so much to entice people to do something they would otherwise not do. -
AIUI WAI - you're an Arachnos Soldier and (per Posi) "Lord Recluse doesn't care if you can't get a date or your favorite t-shirt doesn't fit anymore".

Quote:Frankly, as a member of the community, this comment borders on the insulting - because it implies that the only reason we dislike the new look is because it wasn't properly marketed. The images that players are basing their judgments on are pictures of a screen from SDCC. This is both good and bad:
- It's good because it's allowed us to get some unsolicited feedback upon which to act, and we are acting on it.
- It's bad because we were unable to present this revamp on our own terms using appropriate screenshots and in game images.
Have you even read the comments?
We don't like the new look because it doesn't look like the CoT. This isn't like the Rikti upgrade where they got a cool and spiffy new look. This is taking a unique look away and replacing it with something that looks like every bad costume contest ever held under Atlas' globe.
Do. Not. Want. -
Quote:Maybe in your time zone, but we don't all live in your time zone. In mine (PST), the above is rarely if ever true. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not posting this because I fear the freebies, and I'm not posting this because I don't feel like moving my characters to the Freem server, or whatnot.
I'm posting this because, every night, Freedom and Virtue have three red bubbles through most of the evening.
Quote:Those servers already have issues dealing with the lag (not all the time, certainly) and places like WW, train stations, RWZ and Oro are already crowded and lagtastic.

Quote:One of the side effects of Issue 20 - the help channel is already overwhelmed with noise. Trust me, the goldspam will go unnoticed between the 'LFT' and 'where is Porigrene (sic) Island' messages.
- Free/Premium {imma just call them F/P from now on} can't, in the side-by-side comparison, use the Help channel. Considering how many trial accounts I've seen decide to subscribe based on the assistance they got from the community, leaving it in seems like a net gain overall. Problem is, with the influx of new players, odds are we'll see a resurgence of Help goldspam. How do we prevent that?

Quote:Yes, but what we've been asking for "content for 50's" not "mindless WOW style raiding and teaming for phat loot". The two are dramatically different - the first is consistent with that CoX has been to date, the second is a radical change in the way the game is played.Because lots and lots of players have been asking for it for a very long time
I sincerely hope the suits haven't made this decision in the misguided belief that it will attract WOW players to CoX. I've seen that happen in another MMORPG (changing playstyle to attempt to attract players from a different MMO), and it was the kiss of death. -
Well, it looks like the price of a CoX capable laptop, at least in HP's line-up is going to be considerably more than I wanted to pay... Thanks for the help!
-
Ouch. OK, is there anything in HP's lineup that will run CoX with at least some UM features enabled? (I prefer HP, they've done me good over the years, but lets not turn this into a brand discussion.)
I'm currently getting 10-15 FPS on my ancient desktop. -
I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new laptop, and a nice one is one sale today/tomorrow:
- AMD Phenom II N950 quad core
- 4GB memory
- ATI Radeon HD 4250 Graphics
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
How well will CoX run on this? Will I be able to at least turn on some of Ultra Mode with decent performance?
