New laptop - will this support CoH?
Judging by the benchmarks I have seen, the Radeon 4250 chipset is pretty weak. I wouldn't attempt any kind of Ultra mode settings with this card. You can probably play CoH with it, but you'll have to turn the graphics down a bit. It's not a screamer.
Just to give you an idea, one benchmark put that chipset at approximately the speed of a GeForce 3 Ti 200, a desktop video card from 2001!
It's about half the speed of the GeForce 8600m I have in my 3-year old Mac Book Pro.
It will run the game but I seriously doubt ultra mode or even high. Integrated graphics as oppose to a discrete laptop graphics processor aren't the best when it comes to 3D gaming on anything but minimum to maybe medium settings.
I would expect 15-20 FPS if you tune the graphics settings properly, as in no shadows. 100% world detail or less, no UM features and only the more basic shader settings (bumpmaps should be OK).

Ouch. OK, is there anything in HP's lineup that will run CoX with at least some UM features enabled? (I prefer HP, they've done me good over the years, but lets not turn this into a brand discussion.)
I'm currently getting 10-15 FPS on my ancient desktop.

All is not lost. Looks like you can custom order HP laptops with better graphics. How big of a screen do you want? For example, the HP Pavilion dv6z is a 15" monitor and comes with the crappy Radeon 4250 graphics by default. But you can custom order a a Radeon 5470 for $50 (barely passable) or better yet, the Radeon 5650 for $100. The 5650 will at least be decent and you might be able to turn on some UM graphics settings.
Or you can move up to the 17" models if you want that. Keep in mind the 5650 is still a mid-range mobile graphics card and if you get a bigger monitor, that means more pixels which will just slow you down.
CoH is pretty heavy on the CPU too, so get a faster CPU if you can afford it. And make sure you get at least 4gig of RAM. It looks like they are including 8 gig of RAM in those notebooks now, so you should be good to go there.
Looks like if you want even better graphics you can move up to the HP Envy line which features the mobile Radeon 5850. This will be even better yet... but the price of the laptop goes up pretty quickly.
Well, it looks like the price of a CoX capable laptop, at least in HP's line-up is going to be considerably more than I wanted to pay... Thanks for the help!

I play with a similar setup, only mine is a triple core vs quad core.
I run with Ultra mode on, save water effects. I get 20-30 fps with it on high.
Here's one for $550 which will run CoH very very well:

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new laptop, and a nice one is one sale today/tomorrow:
How well will CoX run on this? Will I be able to at least turn on some of Ultra Mode with decent performance?
