Quote:OMG, this right here x50!This game's market and various other means of obtaining "stuff" are, from what I can tell, some of the most hands-off, easy to use for a "layman" in MMO-dom. I believe it's harder to figure out how to put IOs to good use than it is to obtain them, in terms of the game knowledge required.
Those who have no understanding of how influence is made are those who have not tried to learn, do not want to, or have learned and prefer not to use the knowledge. While only the first can easily be changed, the player does have to make the effort to do so.
This is so true that because of this game alone, it's why I have a hard time making money in other games. The moment I step out of this game and into another, kill about 10 guys and I go, "HEY!? Where is my money!?". Don't even get me started about using the market/Auction House in other games. In this game, you don't have "learn the ways of the Auction House" to make money if you don' want to. Get a drop, walk in see if it sell, throw it up in there and make your money, go on about your day. Other games I have to first get a bloody drop, then make my way to the market, only to find out, I don't even have the money to throw this in the auction house for more then an hour let long the whole day. Then I have to farm money to even make money. In this game when you hear farming it's not cause it's the only way to make money, it more then often then not someone who is a min/max that just wants to make there character as strong as they can as soon as they can, and you know what I am all for them being able to do that, in other games it's a lot easier said then done.
But sorry on topic. Way I see it the only reason I would call Pre ED stronger is cause of the aggro and target cap. In terms of raw power (no counting how many targets we can hit) I'd say if we are not on the same level then higher, or not too far.
To me it's hard to pin it all on ED cause somethings where nerfed across the board while others had changes made. My case in point Regen. My main was a Regen till the change, and truth be told it wasn't so much of not being able to slot all my powers with damage or Recharge, it was more so from having or second Regen toggle change into a click power on a long recharge. Have two toggles doing some very good Regen going and we have a level of Regen that would make Hulk blush. Once that second toggle got turned into a click power, was then I realize just how much damage I really was taking back then. Heck back then the only thing that drop me would be a group of Carnies, and I am no great player, take someone like Geko and I bet he would have tap dance all over their head back on old Regen (if he doesn't still now XD ).
I don't know I am trying to get back into Regen after all this time now, but it makes it hard when Willpower keeps winking at me and telling me how much better she is then my Ex Regen over here who keeps asking me when am I gonna take out the trash and wash the dishes. >.> Willpower on the other hand order that pizza I like with that thing that I like, and that move I love...you get the point... -
Quote:Man I feel ya on this one!I would say we went past missing and have gone full on "missed". To advertise that facet of City of Heroes after it has been touted as part of GW2 would come off as a smaller MMO going "but I have that too!". Right now, I suppose the best we could do is, while NCsoft is talking about GW2, see if they can sneak in a mention about how GW2 has some elements that were experimented with in City of Heroes; another NCsoft game. Whether or not NCsoft will due that is a whole other ballgame.
I have always myself encountered problems whenever I try to advertise this game by word of mouth. It seems like everyone I talk to is doing their best to try and find a reason not to play this game. I've heard things like the following:
#1: "Wait, isn't that game old? I don't want to play an old MMO." Yeah, this doesn't make sense, but it does to whomever says it.
#2: "They've already made a newer one. I'll go play that".
#3: "You play a super hero? So you don't fight dragons and stuff?"
#4: "You only have spells? How are you supposed to fight stuff without an auto-attack?"
#5: "I don't want to play a game where I can't play as Wolverine."
#6: "You can play the game as any AT? Well, then what's the point of playing anything then if you aren't important?". This one... infuriates me.
#7: "I'm not going to play a game without skills/stats I can train and level up".
#8: "Why can't I websling?"
And so on. Of course, you try arguing with them but it is mostly pointless since their mind is made up beforehand. That, or they just circle back to one of the other numbers on the list. I'm certain that this game would be a lot more popular if more people would give it a shot. But all of the newcomers I see play the game just looking for a reason to abandon it.
EDIT: Addendum on #6: Players will also complain that there is no set race in the game in a similar vein.
I have tried for years, for YEARS to get all my friends into playing this game. From talking about it, to showing it to even letting them play. In the end I finally realized 2 things.
1:Half my friends just don't like Super Hero anything! Movies, comics, cartoons, and so not any MMOs. If they can't see a dragon by the time they are level 30 they want nothing to do with it.
2: All my friends that DO like comics and Super Heroes, only want to be nothing more then Batman or Wolverine, and when they can't they don't wanna play.
I tell you it is the second one that makes me sad the most. I mean I get liking Superman, Batman, Spiderman, ect. But to me when I was a kid I didn't so much wanna BE one of them but be my own Super Hero in my own right. I mean if I wanna be batman I know how to load up my 360. -
I am no pro or a person running numbers left and right, but I can tell you this much, my Fire/Dark Blaster that I made so that she could work both in melee and at range I LOVE!
Now I can't sit back and tell you stuff like what is stronger, who has or what is the best attack chain but I can tell you this much my Blaze and Mindnight Grasp can for the most part one shot a minion, and almost one shot a LT, if the proc goes off, and that is with out even counting Soul Drain. Bosses with a full Soul Drain going on? HAHA, 2 shot city.
I was worried first about having to be up in melee, but heck when i got near 30% L/S it really stop being much of a worry for me. What I like about my set up a lot is that I get to keep my damage and add more to it, while being able to play at both range if I need to and Melee if I want to!
As for a power like Shadow Maul I really have no problem with it. I have heard people say stuff like it has an odd cone that is hard to pull off but I don't see to have that problem, if anything it hits so hard for me that mid way in the animation whatever group ran up to me is dead and I am still swinging my arms in the air.
I think after I try out my new Dom I am working on, I am gonna try to level a /Fire or /Elec Blaster next. -
I like this idea and all, but I have played a game where it works this way. Yeah it's fun at first that is till one side has control and the other side doesn't wanna do anything to combat the other side. This normally ends up with one side changing stuff back when the other side is no where to be found.
I don't know what has bugged me about the PvP in this game is that it is more or less just one big open area where it's run in hit run out or TP. For a super hero game base on comics I would think the PvP would do more with stuff like stopping a bank being robbed or something, but not so simple like.
Why not something that is set up kind of like the Itrials but for pvp. something with say maybe 3 phases or so, most points or defeats win in the end or something. I don't know maybe like the Villains are trying to launch a missile at the dam in Faultline and the heroes have to stop it?
Phase one could be like trying to break in or cut off the power to the to the missile or something. Heroes going in with back up from Longbow NPCs enough but not a ton where the NPCs do all the work, while the Villains are backed up by the Spiders with the same in mind. Both sides having a AV type boss that comes into play later or something.
Phase two could be like the Heroes working their way to the control room to shut down things. Like a good fight working your way up floors or in the hallways.
And the final phase can be trying to take down the AV boss, who is trying to teleport out but can't till the computers reboot or something along those lines. So the last fight would be to a timer.
I'd say depending on how well things went you give out Hero or Villain Merits, to and maybe make Vig and Rogue merits to (We need love too!) Heck even normal Merits. Make it where you can get exp and drops off the NPCs running around, that way I'd say a good from level 10 and up could join in and play, or make it at a level cap somewhere.
A few set up PvP games like this and not only could you level up while pvping, but get stuff too, and even more so end game?
I don't know just something I was thinking off the top of my head. -
I don't know, after seem post like this when Pistols came out, and now staff, I'd rather someone just come out and say what they really want and be done with it. Me personally I like staff, it's a blast on my Brute. Top damage? Don't know yet still in my 20s but I see a ton of 40 and 0 Stalker and Scrappers blowing stuff up.
Even time I see post like this, all I am seeing really is "Hey Dev, come on make us a set that is stronger then Super Strength already, and a ranger set stronger then Fire and Arrows!" I could be wrong but that is what it feels like to me, seems more to save time if someone just out and said it already. I don't know maybe there is some rule or something? Me personally I enjoy the sets we are getting, gives me more things to play with. (cough cough* give us an animal shape shift set! *cough cough)
But really why doesn't someone just up and say it already and get it over with? -
*mumbles while looking at the clock* Stupid Dechs Kaison, just wasn't enough to drag me into you Dark Armor madness, then you had to throw Warshades at me, well I am on to your game pal! I will NOT be pulled into the dark side, when the severs go back up I am ONLY making a Warshade to hold a name for me...SO THERE!
I might from time to time level it....so that I have space to store stuff on it (yeah that sounds good...) but never to really play it! Now if you don't mind I have a guide to look over...cause...I want to know....ummmm....*runs away* -
Geez guys, bring it down a level, when it is all said and done, almost none of you guys even play the same way. Some of you guys are known for your AV soloing, other, pure teaming.
When it is all said and done, let the build fit the player that is all that really matters when it is all said and done.
Myself personally I will more then likely skip black hole and try to keep the other stuff, but heck I got like what 2 (or 3) builds to play with, I think there is room to play around with.
As for the single Immbo, I used to not take mines at first for the longest, but that came form playing in the days before containment, and people seemed to only want you on the team for your secondary...man how things have changed huh? Now I pick mines up not only for setting up containment but to keep bosses/AVs in place while debuffing them.
With that said if someone wants to no pick up their ST Immob that is on them, no skin off my back nor am I mad at them, heck I am too busy locking down, debuffing, and healing to even really care! -

Quote:This right here like x10I always assumed Penelope was 17-19 in faultline. She talked and acted a lot like my 19 year old ballroom dance partner does now, and my dance partner is 19, almost 20.
So ... *shrug*
Lewis
I don't get where people are getting this little kid thing from. She almost tells you right off the bad that it's her friends that treat her like a kid and that she is not a kid. Yeah she is short, and yeah you can almost feel the whole little kid thing when she isn't really doing much of anything (not using power and stuff) and has clockwork protecting her. She really doesn't starting using her powers or starts getting training for them till the end of the arc.
I mean how is any of this hard to get? Lets see starting getting training after the Faultline Arc, we see her again much much later around the Vanguard stuff, jump some more years to now, is it really that hard to believe in all this time she is not only older but trained too? I wouldn't call spending time with Vanguard and fighting Rikkti (sp?) no type of training what so ever. -
Okay maybe I am missing something here, but I am really not getting all the people that are not happy about the whole SSA about the Freedom Phalanx not being about us (player). I mean it's about them, if anything to me this comes off more of a set up to change the way things are, and the part we play as a Hero/Villain is the thing of being able to say "yeah I was there, I saw when it went down".
I mean a lot of people say they want it to be all about the player, looks to me like it is being set up that way, yeah not in THIS story but you have to have a start somewhere right?
Like I said, maybe I am wrong, but when we where told from the start what this whole story of arcs was gonna be about for the most part, I kind of got right off bat this isn't so much our story as a changing moving history forward story so that when the storm comes, it will be our story and ours alone (well i guess on a team XD) -
This whole time I am reading this the only thing I can think is, "Man, none of these guys must play the red side much if at all, and on top of that, NONE of them have ever been to St. Martial before I take it!"
I have to agree with others, if playing the bad guy makes you feel bad, then maybe a bad guy ain't for you. As for playing the bad guys you want to play, yeah you can RP that all day, but unless you make the game up (and rules) yourself, I don't ever really see any game being the way I myself want it, but I am just fine with the way this one is! -
Quote:This to the max!Well, I wouldn't call it evil. Diet evil. Evil lite. Zero calories, not evil enough. She hangs out with Freakshow a bunch, and whines about how people don't give her the attention she feels she deserves, in the manner in which she deserves it. To call her "evil plans" a cavalcade of amateur hour shenanigans is doing them too much credit.
The high level villain and rogue tips with Flambeaux are really funny, though. It's like you're more than a bit embarassed to even be in the same zone with her.
I love Flambeaux cause anything with here is gonna be funny, but in a Role Play way, you turning the corner in anything and see her there just gets a instant
/em, facepalm "ugh things just got stupid..."
Or to better put it you are your friends are hanging out at Pocket D and you see her before she see you, and you are trying to signal to your friends you "we need to get out of here now!" when you hear her call your name as the music stops in the whole club. Now you got groups on both sides making fun of you in the background as she joins you and your friends >.< -
Quote:That isn't "annoying" that is just plan old EVIL!I made the most annoying enemy group ever in one of my AE missions.
Minions with Ice Armor and Icy Assault. With all 18 powers.
If you're fighting 10 of them, you have: 20 copies of Chilling Embrace stacked on you, and no end because they tend to all fire Energy Absorption at the same time.
Oh yeah.....they fly too
I put them in a mission advertised as a fire farm......they were the ambush
The comments I got on that one were HILARIOUS. Imagine the havoc they would wreak on a Fiery Aura brute, with almost no resistance to Cold damage.........
......I'm mean. -
I am normally not one to post, but I have to ask, "gimmick" or not, all I see is the Dev trying to move the story of the game forward from where it's been sitting for years. (which a lot of other MMOs are doing too) With that said, is there really any other way to move the story of the world along with out doing Trials, TF, New Zones, ect.?
The only other thing I could think of would be the changes in things like being free to play, adding the store and so on, but I wouldn't call that a gimmick as much as I would call it a business move more then anything. One I don't find bad myself, getting new stuff almost every week or two is a good thing in my book, taking this a few years back and we would have had to wait a whole year for a new power set and TF.
I mean if anything you are never gonna ever please everyone, and for any MMO out there you can't keep everyone forever, you can keep some, but not everyone forever. -

I have always wondered, when people say Foot Stomp is a very good AoE damage power, do they really just mean Rage + Foot Stomp, or is Foot Stomp alone a really good AoE power, outside of being able to hit more targets??
-
I never did get this whole "Scrapper vs Brute" thing. I mean I maybe wrong for asking, or even saying, but is it REALLY that big of a deal cause of a few % here and there? Is it really gonna mess up your day if the guy next to you is doing 1.5% more damage then you or can take two more hits then you can?
I mean what the heck happen to playing what you like? And as for the people wanting to make the best they can with the best there is, to that I have to ask. What the heck happen to taking something no one would give two looks at and turning it into a beast, or is bringing another AT up or down a few % the only way to make the AT one is playing fun anymore?
I don't knowmaybe it's just me, I have both a scrapper, brute, stalker and blaster and I enjoy them all. I know they don't play and act the same, but truth be told I thought that was kind of the point???

Quote:I am gonna have to really agree with this here. From day one when GR went live a for a good month or so both in game and on the forums there where a lot of people new and a TON old asking where to go, who do I talk to next, and most of all the "I have no contact".also this means he wasn't doing one very important thing in the tutorial zone READING, it means he was just clicking okay and not reading a damn thing... I am not trying to be mean or any thing but if you talk to the NPCs and read it will get you through the tutorial even has markers showing you where to go... once out of there I can understand asking how to do stuff or even asking a vet how they got something but if you can't find your way through the tutorial on yer own you are in trouble...
as far as the tells thing yea people on a trial account can't get tells and the reason you can't tream for the mission is the morality mission thing choice thing...
Now while reading it on the forums alone it comes off big time that "Wow, how did Dev Team set this game up?" Only then when you get in game you find out that 9 out of 10 no one is reading anything. I lost count of the time I help people the first day to find contacts, or where to go only to find out they where not reading anything, heck a good few where saying right out after I helped them "Gee, maybe I should start reading this!?" and sadly a lot of these people where not new!
The new people I did run into, a many where happy for the help but a lot where like in the end "you mean I have to read this stuff?" I mean yeah if you are new to something you kind of have to
I mean I guess you could "wing it" but I think a lot of us know where that leads -
I am finally trying a Fire Armor Character for the first time, and so far I like it, it kind of reminds me of playing my DA or my Elec Characters and yet and the same time not the same, I do have to admit I am a little worried about trying care of a few "holes" in the armor. KB isn't so much a problem, but for the first time i get the feeling that I might have to take CJ. Or can the life of a Fire Armor AT be okay with out CJ?
<.< I only ask cause I can't really think of to many things off the top of my head that the red side throws at you that Immob yeah to death, and yet if I remember right more so on the hero side?? -
Quote:*Steals Dechs' build for his new BS/Dark stalker.*
Mua hahaha!
HEY! I was gonna do that for my.....(Takes Starflier's idea of taking Dechs Kaison's build for HIS very own BS/DA he has been working on!)....<.< nothing to see here guys moving along!
<.< hmmm is this build made for after I19? -
I totally grew up on Voltron, but with that said I have mixed feeling about the way the concept are looks. The pics showing the cats, that I like they do look cool, not classic but cool, now the one with Voltron himself in it...I don't think I am liking it, it doesn't look bad, but it don't look good either.

Quote:I take that back, now that I think about it, it was Werner that has the Kat/DA scrapper not Bill!So the best I can get from every ones post is that for the most part a Stalker soloing an AV is about as doable as it is for a Scrapper/Brute, only a little harder, from what I can tell due to HP and end management, and even then thanks to the new APP, that might not be as much as a problem?
As for Secondaries, couldn't you use just about anything, depending on how you set/slot it? I am not so much a fan of /Nin, but I love Dark Armor and Elec. If I remember right doesn't Bill have a Kat/DA Scrapper that he has soloed a few AVs with? ( I could have the wrong person in mind I can't remember read it like 2 or 3 months ago)
Well anyway it goes I am working on a few scrappers and I'd love to give it a try when i get to the levels where I can really start planing and slotting the things I need
You guys have been great on the info thanks a lot -

Quote:Whoa! Outside of the one name Hero that has a demon from the CoT as a mother (sorry can't think of his name atmRandom notes, since I'm just catching back up to this thread:
If you don't have an AV that goes immune to Smashing/Lethal, Martial Arts is going to be the top DPS set, followed by EM and DM, which are close enough as to be almost identical (DM is slightly lower at a 10% critical rate but passes EM at pretty much anything higher - I did the numbers in another thread but forgot them and am too lazy to go find them again). Since DM also includes a self-heal to keep you topped off while fighting, I'd personally recommend DM, but going strictly by the numbers it's MA > EM > DM. Divine Avalanche/Parry is probably going to be the most useful powers to keep yourself alive, but I didn't look at attack chains that factor them in.
A defensive secondary will do better than Shadow Meld, which has a long animation and causes a fairly substantial hit to your sustained DPS (depending on recharge and frequency of use).
Caltrops, since AVs don't tend to run off of a single instance of them, are actually a nice little boost to your DPS while fighting. This, combined with the previous point, makes me tend towards stating /Nin is likely the best secondary - whether softcapped or not. Having a tray full of purples gives you ~10 mins of being softcapped, even if you're just using SOs, and you have Sha for the hits that get through.
So, yeah. MA/Nin for damage, with DM/, NB/, and BS/Nin for extra survivability.), I didn't even know there where other AVs that where immune to damage types
! What are some of these other AVs?
As for secondaries, think one could pull off something like Dark Armor say with NB/BS?
