Fire Armor good?
It is a very frail set. You can somewhat mitigate this by building for S/L defense, but it will always be pretty frail.
On the other hand, It has absolutely insane damage.
/Fire is the Blaster of the Brutes. It is a glass cannon.

/Fire Armor Brutes and Scrappers generally have the same kind of survivability as a Stalker outside of Hide does. At least now, they also have the kind of damage output to make "Kill them first" a viable option.
Adding Defense (Smashing/Lethal first and foremost, but positional can work well if you can get it...) and Recharge both help the set immensely. Plan on Hasten, and take as much recharge as you can fit in the build.
And don't be afraid to faceplant. Rise of the Phoenix isn't a god mode, but another weapon in your arsenal. And combined with Healing Flame and Consume, you can be back to full in no time.

One thing I have seen alot of groups do is they "seem to forget" that brutes are not tanks.
It still baffles me to see people say things like "We have a brute! Let him/her/it be the tank"
Brutes are the perfect companion for any tank. They compliment tanks, not replace.
Brutes don't have that built in taunt in every attack like tanks do. <keyword deadblaster>
I generally avoid teams that don't get that, I don't like watching blasters die QQ

Brutes can replace tanks, but they either need to have chosen sets/powers toward that end or have more support.
Frail? Not really. Not unless you insist on having everything on max settings and have poor slotting.
Fire Armour is more squishy than other sets but the amount of damage it puts out is its mitigation. Why bother about how much damage you can take when everything around you is dead within a few seconds? I do agree though that it follows the Blaster mantra of kill faster than they can kill you.
Funny thing is, it has almost every utility you could ask for in an armour set. Fast heal? Check. Endurance recovery? Check. Self Resurrect? Check. I don't think I've had a Brute get back into the fight faster than my SS/Fire who is built for general PvE rather than farming. If you want a Brute that never dies and doesn't get debt, this is not the set for you. There's a good reason why there's a rez rather than a god mode and it comes in very handy. Every time I fall in battle, it's just another chance to hit RotP and blow everyone to smithereens.
As for the psi hole, I don't find it lacking. Carnies melt in my wake and Consume and Healing Flames mean their attacks barely even scratch me. After Footstomp, Burn and Fire Ball, there's nothing really left standing except bosses. How it fares with other sets though, I can't say.
In all, it's not uber but by the gods, is it fun!

Run in, do as much damage as you can. If you die you freaking explode back to life.

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
Fire Armour is significantly better for Brutes nowadays. The two changes to Fiery Embrace and Burn mean Fury works far, far better with them now. I'd love to be able to quickly try out my Stone/Fire Brute now with them (but they're in my idle EU account unfortunately).
The forthcoming changes to Stamina will also go a long way to ironing out the severe pain of Fire Armour in the teens.
I do think you need to box somewhat clever with it still and pick a primary that is going to pick up some of the survivability slack for you though.
Its more an offensive set than resistance set IMHO. Its not good or bad, it just works differently than say willpower.
Depends on what you want it to be good at.
If by good you mean fall asleep at the keyboard while surrounded by angry +4 mobs and not have to worry about it, then: not so much.
If by good you mean viable and playable, with a legitimate niche to fill then: Yes!
If you are an aggressive player and want to play a flaming whirlwind of fiery conquering doom, then FA is really good at that.
I have a level 46 fire/fire tank. She is uber against CoT demons. She is very good against Nemesis and Rikti. I like to run her at +1/x6. I could max out the demons and have no issues.
Cold damage is nearly as big of a hole as psi. My resistances are 90% fire, 72% S/L, 40-something % E/NE, 10+% Cold, zero Psi. That is with fully slotted fire and plasma armors and tough. I don't have Temperature Protection yet.
The absolute worst are those Vanguard soldiers in Gaussian's arc. I had to drop down to +0/x1 for that arc.
The Roman soldiers in Cimerora are scary tough as well.
Fire/Fire is a fun build. You really want Rise of the Phoenix. Once you get Burn, your levels start to fly. It is not the most powerful set for survival by far. Yes, you want to kill before you are killed. It is fun, for sure, a very different playstyle from playing other tanks.
Since fire armor with a decent AoE primary can kill very large amounts of minions very quickly your inspiration tray should always be full.
A fire armor with a full inspiration tray is death incarnate. Or death incinerate as the case may be. I usually have one row eaten, sometimes two, at all times on my ss/fire. He's pretty fun to play then. Without them way too frail for my liking. I'm just SO's, though. Fire's one of those sets that gets insane really quickly with set bonuses.

I am finally trying a Fire Armor Character for the first time, and so far I like it, it kind of reminds me of playing my DA or my Elec Characters and yet and the same time not the same, I do have to admit I am a little worried about trying care of a few "holes" in the armor. KB isn't so much a problem, but for the first time i get the feeling that I might have to take CJ. Or can the life of a Fire Armor AT be okay with out CJ?
<.< I only ask cause I can't really think of to many things off the top of my head that the red side throws at you that Immob yeah to death, and yet if I remember right more so on the hero side??

Shields and SR have Psi protection? I thought most Psi attacks were positionally untyped.

I know its the best farming set, but aside from fire farms, how does fire armor perform in end game compared to other sets? It seems to have a huge psi hole just like Inv, and I get ***** by Arachnos all day on it
