actually some things were changed on the low end.

Some of the old non-standard proprietary code was junked and re-written to, as I understand it, a stricter OpenGL specification adhearence. Theoretically this should have improved and standarized image quality across all OpenGL adhearent API sets (1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 2.0, 2.0 ES, and 3.0), but instead wound up appearently caused issues on certain vendors drivers: e.g. Intel, e.g. Fglrx / Catalyst drivers of a certain age, e.g. Nvidia drivers of a certain age.

Hence the number of Intel users suddenly locked out of the game and finding shader quality wasn't an option, and the known issue with Geforce 4 crashes.
True, true, I was mostly speaking to if the low settings were still there (which they are for me). But to continue your info, once I got my specific computer's issues figured out (I had one of those hotkey issues, but not with ATI), the game actually seems to run much better for me at the settings I used previous to I17. So I will attribute that to the OpenGL fix you mentioned.

It was simple curiosity, since adding a space before a punctuation mark is not taught in any school. Not entirely sure why you went off on a tangent. You type too fast, which forces you to add an extra space before every punctuation mark? That just makes no sense...
I'm also guessing by the spelling "rubbishe", that the poster isn't a native English speaker either.

Although with the desire for negative rep, it may be on purpose just to irritate people.

This has been my experience, as well. This necro rule is counter-intuitive to me because of my experience in dozens of other places.

But, then again, they turned rep on on these boards, so I have no idea what they're thinking.

I'm pretty certain they didn't change anything on the low end. I went into "ugly" mode just the other day to speed up my load times when I was logging in a bunch of characters for the 6 year anniversary badge. That said, this game shows different things for different machines so maybe yours is gone and mine still there.

ALSO: If you're downloading a patch, that means the patch server is up, not necessarily that the game is available to play. GENERALLY, yes, the two coincide, but several times it has not.
I'll go so far as to say they generally do not coincide. In my experience, the patch is usually downloadable long before the servers come back up. Case in point, this morning I was downloading the patch at about 9:40 EDT, and the servers were a long way from up then.

  13. Check to see if there's any other kind of hotkey software on your computer. I have an ATI, but the hotkey fix did not work for me. I found yet another hotkey system running that I deleted (Intellitype) and it cleared it all up for me. Not sure if it'll work for you, but worth a look.

    Mylia gets me backwards:

Technically base raiding with the IoP the big centerpiece to the CoV advertisement. It would of been end game work cause it would work more of an idea of a raid.

If the CoP trial worked it would of helped base raids increase in popularity and probably brought in more other trinkets to raid for. Although to say it was never significant part is en grossly wrong since it was stuck on every CoV box.
I'm talking about what happened, not what was advertised. You're more or less agreeing with me. No IoPs, not a whole lot of interest in base raiding.

    Quote:
Base raiding was a big thing still for PvPers when it was live. I know there was a few SGs on my server that did regular base raiding...there was a crowd for it...but it falls under Lothic's post on what happened.
Oh, sure, for some SGs. LoV had quite a few of them ourselves. But it was hardly something of widespread interest.

    Quote:
    Lothic sounds offended:

SG base raiding was a core feature promised by CoV. The CoP trial was a key part of how that system was supposed to work. I fail to see why being nitpicky about separating these things into specific "causes and effects" really changes the main point I made.
Sidebar? Tangential point? Something to talk about? Not every comment's a direct confrontation to the main point.

    Quote:
The net EFFECT is that SG base raiding ultimately failed to catch on and the infamously buggy CoP trial was a major CAUSE of that. Maybe not the only cause (because if you'll recall those raids were always plagued by lag and balance issues which had nothing to do with the IoPs), but a major one.
True enough, and certainly no disagreement (although damn I had a lot of fun on them, regardless of getting my butt kicked a lot )

    Quote:
Therefore it is easy enough to understand the failed CoP trial's role in one of this game's greatest overall development failures.
This is why there are some people who still care about it. *shrugs*
Aye, I think if we'd had it for a while and then they took it out would have been far less a big deal as "almost never" was there.

  18. Quote:
Lothic has carts and horses harnessed wrong:

It was a core advertised centerpiece of what CoV was supposed to bring to the game. Clearly the Devs thought SG base raiding was going to be a significant part of the "end game content" of this game. Obviously that didn't happen and what we were left with was a sadly "swept under the rug" scenario of a major game system left buggy and unused.
Base raiding was never going to be a significant part of anything unless they gave us "something to fight over". Since that didn't happen, base raiding became an afterthought. I think you have your causes and effects reversed.

Also, if we're talking about all of this from a roleplaying perspective, keep in mind character versus player knowledge. The bios that we're reading on the website are not necessarily representative of what a character in the game may know or their knowledge may be clouded by other factors. For example, perhaps a hero character is a big supporter of law and order. All he hears about Praetoria on Primal Earth is that it is run by the cruel, dictatorial Tyrant that has driven his populace into obedience through fear. This could cloud the characters perception. But what about once they travel to Praetoria and see (on the surface at least) an orderly society, with little to no open crime, everyone living in relative peace and safety? And this all came about because of Emperor Cole. If your character idealizes law and order, what is not to like about this person? The reality you see before yourself is nothing like what you've heard before.
Really? They never got the movie "Demolition Man" in Paragon City?

EDIT: Gah! All hail the accidental necro.
  24. Interesting that they're using the base raid programming to lock them out, though.

Frankly, I'm not going to host every bad joke pic or reference pic I post. If it's something important or something of mine personally, sure, but a silly "O RLY!" pic or something, yeah I'm "stealing" that bandwidth and I don't care. If it disappears, it disappears. Few and far between are the sites that give you a ****** pic or something once they block hotlinking.
