Base access for trial accounts

I noticed some time ago that people on trial accounts could not access supergroup bases and would get the following message "you must have a valid City of Villians account to participate in base raids". Was this a bug or are trial accounts restricted from entering supergroup bases?

That's WAI as in Working As Intended rather than WAH as in Cry Moar Please.

Probably just the only lockout message they have that isn't "Rent is overdue" or "This base ain't shared" ;p

I was able to access a SG base on a trial account on the weekend. I rolled one up to take create a snapshot of my toons in there. I did get kicked out of the base every time I swapped account toons, but was able to access the base whenever teamed. This was blue side.

If you are teamed, you can enter the team leader's base (if the team leader is of a SG rank that allows it).

But a trial account cannot actually join a SG as a member and obtain base access in that manner.

Leastwise, that's how I understand it.

You are correct Kat.

Thanks for the answers! A friend of mine tried the game a year or so ago and was frustrated that even tho she joined my SG she couldn't enter the base and use the TP to travel to zones. I wonder why they felt the need to keep trial accounts out of SG bases in the first place. It's not like they could do any irreparable damage.

Yes they could and did. RMT sites were creating trila accounts in order to

1. Rob the SG storage blind if they found the base permissions were lax. There was also an exploit that existed at the time which allowed someone in an SG that was in coalition with another SG to rob the coalition SG blind regardless of what sevurity settings the coalition SG had set.

2. Gather player character and global names so they could be added to their email spam lists.

3. Infiltrate SG, Coalition and Private chat channels in order to flood the channels with RMT spam.

Almost every single trial restriction was put into place to discourage RMT abuse.

And CoH/V has been a much nicer place to play because of it.

I'll grant, though, for those who are sincerely trying out the game, some of the limitations can be annoying (all the more reason to sub up! =p).

The chat limitations seem to be the highest source of annoyance. It would be nice if the devs could come up with a way to indicate to others that a player is on a trial account. There have been many suggestions that have cropped up now & then. It's just a matter of if/when any of them get implemented.

I'll stand by the SG limitation, though, even though it means we can't pad our SG rosters as easily. It's a matter of security, and that takes precedence.
