  1. Yeah, count me in with a "WTF are you talking about?" to "Player".
  2. Other than a few goofy speech binds and some (mostly annoying) speech patterns, I could never get into full RP. It just feels too weird to me. I save most of it for out-of-game, writing stories and bios and time-lines, etc.
  3. Awwwww...now I'm disappointed that there's no "www.jumpvigorouslyintothelake.com"

I could have plenty of use for such a link...

Hey if it resulted in a healthy population then I'm game.
A healthy population is what we have. You see, that's not your call, that's NCSoft's, and they appear just fine with it.

Personally, I'm reminded of the live action Tick tv show, where they hung out in a diner or a cafe or something. I think they do that in every version of the Tick, don't they?
I'm not sure about the live-action, but the diner in both the comic and animated TV series were homages to the classic Edward Hopper painting "Nighthawks" (an homage that would clearly have to be included if CoH went with this, IMHO).

  7. I had roommates that once put their speakers up to the heating vent and pounded out "Pray for Peace, John" (basically Eric Clapton feedback and Yoko shrieking wordlessly for about 20 minutes) while I was in bed. I did, indeed, think for a moment upon awakening that someone was killing our cats.

EDIT: Wikipedia fixes my ancient memory. It's Side Two of Live Peace in Toronto 1969 from the Plastic Ono Band and the two songs are "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)" and "John, John (Let's Hope for Peace)"
  8. Rikti Ship Raid.

Be sure you've done at least the first mission arc (mostly talkies) from Levantera to have you "join" the Vanguard and be eligible for Rikti Merits.

Welcome! Like they said above, just jump right in. You probably will make what some people call 'mistakes' but thats how you learn! Most of the community is pretty nice around here, and will gladly get you edumacated about the game. Join some global channels, and have some fun!
This. I, too, was too intimidated at first to team much. But once you get into it, you'll find most people actually remember their newb days and are more than happy to help teach you (plus, that makes us "vets" feel smart ) or at least cut you a bunch of slack. I used to announce right away that I was fairly new and not used to teaming, and most of the responses were "Ha! Don't worry, we'll show you what to do if we need to. " After a few times, I realized I was a lot more adequate player than I thought.
  10. Of course, there's way more to this game than street hunting and radio missions. The Family show up in various story arcs and single missions. They're also featured in the Safeguards "Protect Steel Canyon" and "Protect Independence Port".
  11. I've seen EBs/AVs knocked down (GMs, too...lots, actually), but it was only on teams where just about everyone had a bunch of KB. It's a rarity, though.

It's usually one of those "Whoa! We actually KBed him???" moments.

    Flight Poses

For a while there you couldn't have your weapons out while using a flypose, either (you still have to "pull" it after the flypose). It would just negate the flypose. But they eventually fixed it and I was glad, because I so like flying like this with The Mighty Thunor.

What is the point of the cool-down if the markets are going to be merged?
As others have said, who said it was all about the market? It's more likely that they don't want you flip-flopping back and forth at will because they want what they built to actually mean something. You're changing how your character thinks and acts (or bringing them in line with it, depending on how they were originally envisioned). That's supposed to be a SLIGHTLY big deal at the very least.

Are we teaching things? Here's Venus Flytrap to teach Power about atoms!

    Frosticus has sincere trepidation:

It's not important in the sense that you are depicting, but rather in the sense that if a new player were to pick any server from the top...say +/- 6 servers on the list they are more than likely going to run the tutorial alone. Not necessarily a problem in and of itself, but they then roll the die and if they pick Galaxy they will load in and again see no one (this is the case even on Freedom usually). Is that really presenting a MMO in the best light?
Well, yeah, I was referring specifically to the tutorial, but you make a good point. I think a lot of it will have to do with expectations. Anecdotal evidence, but I've found there's a pretty good split between gamers and super-hero fans that are drawn to this game. People like me, the latter that wouldn't touch WoW with a ten foot pole, are going to be thrilled to see anyone at all around at first. Someone trying this out from other MMOs is probably going to be disappointed in the lack of visible people. I personally have no preference in the order, myself. If they were trying to get people to fill up the lower populated servers...well...did it work? I don't know what their datamining says, but I doubt it.

I rolled up a blaster about a month ago on my original server (Infinity). I ran the tutorial, chose Galaxy, then went to Kings, then went to Steel. I didn't see another player until I was level 11 ninja jumping my way to Valkyrie. If I was a new player and experienced that there would be zero chance I'd continue playing this game because frankly there are better single player superhero games on the market.
No one at all? Even on Victory in the "middle of the night" (US) I still see people around. Not crowds, but there's always someone.

I think when GR launches they should disable starting in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles with a new character on any account that is less than 1 month old. Think about it for a second. All of us are going to be in Praetoria. Can you imagine how bad (ie deserted), even compared to now, that your starting experience would be if you didn't choose to start in Praetoria? I mean you probably wouldn't see anyone else even on freedom during that period. Imagine the other servers. If they want any new player to stick with the game, pray they select Praetoria with their new toon. If you can't make it the only option for new players at least put some big flashing arrows pointing to it so they know they should pick it.
Hmmm...I see the problem but I don't really agree with the solution. First, the "forced" issue. I think "seeing people" is further down the list of why people will stay or not than you do. A wider variety of options is better here, IMHO. Second is that it's short term. Sure, Praetoria's gonna be hoppin' for those first couple of months, but then you're right back where you started (unless things skyrocket after QR, but I don't think anyone's expecting that kind of bump). Third there's the "this isn't a trial, I paid for the game...how come I can't do that other thing over there?" problem. An MMO with a probationary period? I don't think that would work at all.
  17. Well, those are stored on your computer (my default is at C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\PowerCust). See if it's there. If not, I'm not sure there is a way to get it back other than just redoing it. Assuming same AT and powerset choices, right (Is it plugged in and turned on? )?

EDIT: Apparently I'm blind and totally missed that you said it's there already. I've had some of mine not save properly before, but not commonly.

    Team Poll

Well, it depends on how they do it. I mean, you can say "We're gonna run fast through these, OK?" or "We usually stick all together so try not to wander please." There's plenty of ways to "give orders" without being a jerk about it.
  19. Curious as to why you're comparing this to I15. Just because there was a box? Because the situation's far more similar to I6 (except that the dev staff is actually...staffed, now ).
  20. Oh, I know. I was just smarting off.
  21. Actually, there is a short answer, and Silverado gave it.

And Stormbird can be happy now.
  22. Eh...entirely coincidental. It's a standard "dramatic angle" for buildings.
