New CoH Phishing Scam?

Got this email today. Firefox was smart enough to report it as a phishing site, even though it was obvious from the formatting and the fake URL it gave. Not to mention the sloppy spacing. Still, for those of you NOT using Firefox make sure to always be careful with your account information.

Usually any phishing attempts I get are for WoW (which I don't even play), so I guess someone must be pulling email addresses from the forums or something.

NCsoft will never ask you to verify your identity to prevent account closure. This goes the same for most other game companies out there.

Be smart and nothing ever happens.

Forward the email to support@ncsoft.com and they can handle the legal crap behind phishing scams.

Unless you posted your email to the forums (a real bonehead move, honestly), this is impossible because the forums don't use your email address anywhere.

Hmm, I don't recall ever posting my email address. Wonder where they got it?

Yeah, the terrible grammar is a dead giveaway for scams. NCsoft typically only makes typos, not huge grammar fumbles.

As tempting as it is to reply "Lol, pics or it didn't happen.", it's probably best to just forward this to NCsoft.

Hey now, I post my e-mail address publicly. Google's spam filters are second-to-none, and I'm pretty wise when it comes to avoiding scams like these.

(It's tonyv@cohtitan.com, by the way, in case you get bored and want to say hi, or more likely, have an issue with the Paragon Wiki or other Titan Network site. But if you want to e-mail me because of the latter, make sure the sites aren't under maintenance first!)

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

Really? Go to your Control Panel, and Edit Your Details. The first section is for your e-mail, which is required to register an account.

And when you chose to Edit Options, you have the option to allow members to send you e-mail from your profile page, in the Contact section. Clicking that will open a page with a form to enter the e-mail subject and message. You do have to have a forum account, and be logged in to send it, thankfuly.

The forums also allow you to get notifications via e-mail when a thread you subscribe to has new posts.

As for displaying e-mail, I, personally, have a PHP script I use when I want to hand out my e-mail address. It displays an image with my address on it. It would look like this:

I wonder how many more folks would fall for this garbage if they used correct grammar.

As a general rule, the correct response to any email that asks for information or provides a link is to connect directly to the company site, NOT using the link in the email, and proceed from there.

If it says you have an account issue, log in directly and check.

It's better grammar than a lot of forum posts here!

One? I've had several a day show up. At least 10 a week for a while. No WoW account.

Same here (Yahoo's are plenty good enough for me). I've never seen a phishing scam yet that didn't send off a hundred alarms in my head. To even follow a link from an email like that would be far more foolish than posting one's email. If in doubt, go directly to the source. It'll always turn up they sent you nothing, because no companies work like this.

Dec out.

Same here. I get scams for Aion, WoW, and rarely for other general NCSoft stuff, and it's not even the email that I use for my MMO accounts.

I must admit that It's actually died down a fair amount recently, it used to be upwards of 10-15 per day, now it's just 3-4 per day.
