Knockback Possible for EBs/AVs?

I've always enjoyed Energy/Energy Blasters (I've started one more than once, then deleted them for one reason or another... mostly from matters of theme or slot room on my server), and I am now leveling one up to level 50. Finally found a concept for the character that makes it fly for me, heh.

Anyway, I'm focusing on using knockback for mitigation with this guy as much as possible. I know some mobs resist it, but it seems like most of my tools should knockback normal foes (as long as it hits, etc.). However, I am curious to find out if you can knockback Elite Bosses or AVs. I like being able to solo with my characters, and it would be nice to be able to do this. Is there a certain magnitude needed where you can knock them back, or are they basically immune to it, like holds, etc.?

I can do without it, as I have soloed most of the EBs in game with other blasters that did not attempt to hold or knock back these foes, but it would still be kind of fun. I also seem to recall someone posting that they kept knocking back Snaptooth while they were fighting him, so it seems like it should be possible.

It can be done, but while their protection (PToD) is up it takes a massive amount of KB.

Interesting tip, in the ITF when you're killing Nictus Rommy in the last mission a KB patch like Ice Slick, Bonfire etc. will send him flopping when he rezes... sometimes for a considerable time until he manages to activate his KB protection. I can recall one instance where he was flopping until we got him down to about 1/3 HP.

That's what I was wondering: how much is it? I thought maybe the PToD were the same for all of them in this regard, so I was wondering what the bar was that I needed to get over (or if it's completely unfeasible).

It's 50 points. So little to no chance of overcoming it.

I've seen EBs/AVs knocked down (GMs, too...lots, actually), but it was only on teams where just about everyone had a bunch of KB. It's a rarity, though.

It's usually one of those "Whoa! We actually KBed him???" moments.

Dec out.

I've knocked down the paladin, adamastor, and a DE monster with just my PA, Phantasm and a ragnarock proc in fireball.

A Defender's Force Bolt slotted for knockback should be able to do it, as should anybody's Power Boost or Power Build Up + Power Push. If I've got the numbers correct, the storm/energy defender I'm levelling should be able to do mag 95 knockback once she hits level 41.

Oh well, out of luck for my Blaster, then. I suppose AVs/EBs need to be tough, but I was hoping I could maybe build my Blaster up to it. I'm just having far too much fun with knockback right now. I was knocking Outcasts back about half a block the other night while waiting for a Posi TF to start up, and it was far too fun.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Power Boost/Power Build Up was changed many issues ago to not provide +Knockback.

At 50, with 3 generic lvl 50 IOs, Force Bolt should do ~51.5 Knockback.

Yeah. There are very few 'pure' EBs (that is, EBs who aren't scaled-down AVs) heroside, but there's a generous helping of them villainside. Against these, I can confirm that knockdown/back works well in most cases. It's about the only way my Stone/EA brute managed to get through some of those fights.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Snappy couldn't get back from his a$$ due to lack of KB prot, while I was cycling Shatter, Crowd Control and Mace Beam on my bane

Huh. I thought Snaptooth had PToD as well, but perhaps I'm remembering wrong.

Hmm... Interesting. Does that mean a level 50 FF Defender with Force Bolt slotted for Knockback can reliably bounce AVs around? That's relevant to my intrests. That and a mag 51 KB on a level 1 Hellion sounds like all kinds of fun.

I think they have 100 kb protection.

PToD adds 50 to whatever inherent or toggle KB protection each EB/AV has. Other than that, whatever they have naturally is all they've got. Each EB/AV is different.

I was mostly just being nice to set it up for someone else to get the kill on this issue when I said "I think". Of the lvl 50 AV's I just checked:
Baphomet
Countess Crey
Vanessa Devore
Black Scorpion
BaB's
Numina
Scirocco
Black Swan
Agent Crimson
Requiem

This is what they show:

Triangles Up

Triangles Down

Second or so while the Triangles activate
