Quote:It has nothing to do with primary/secondary. It has everything to do with AT modifiers.I kinda expected it when it was first announced. Just like every other Villain set that gets ported to Heroes, It's stronger because it is a Primary. But look at the bright side, you can make an Archery/ Corruptor that will out damage a /Archery Defender...
A quick example is radiation emission. The hold component in chocking cloud and EM Pulse is better for a controller than it is for a defender, even though it is a secondary power for controllers. The reason is because controllers have a higher controller modifier.
The same for /elec blast as a defender. The secondary effects (end drain) become more powerful because of the defender buff/debuff modifier. Defenders are supposed to be good at buff/debuff. Even though it's a secondary power, aspects of it become better. -
Quote:You're going to hate me for this.So I just found out that Defender's Trap got buffed. I don't know what the final % will be but from what I've gathered:
FFG is 13.3% DEF (Corr and MM are 10%)
Acid is 26.6% -RES (Corr and MM are 20% debuff)
Seeker Drones got boosted to 6.65% -ToHit and 26.6% -DMG (Corr and MM debuffs 20% damage)
Why does Defender's Trap got buffed and Corr's trap doesn't? If I want to use logic, then Defender's trap got buffed because Trap is their primary. Corruptor's Trap should be buffed because Corruptor's buff/debuff value should be about 25% higher than Mastermind's? Corr's trap didn't even get endurance adjustment until maybe a year ago.
And then Converse Power got buffed because it got ported to Heroes?? Funny they didn't think Stalker's Electricity Armor needs some buff because Stalker has lower HP and the set offers no healing/defense to back it up? Suddenly the dev feels the need to buff /Elec just because it's going to Heroes?
Do you see the trend here?
Yes, I know Brute's Claw is currently modified but I won't call it a buff because higher base damage = higher endurance/recharge. It's a "modified" version.
With the nerf of Poison Trap, Corr/Trap just seems really weak. Either MM's version needs to get nerfed or Corr's version needs to improve.
PS: They say Defender's Trip Mind and Time Bomb do less damage... I can give a !@#$# about Time Bomb to be honest with you. Trip Mind is situational at best. I would rather have improved FFG and Acid Mortar for Corr.
*ahem*
Hey whiner, Defenders have a different buff/debuff modifier than corruptors and MM's. The powers weren't changed at all. You can see this if you go into your precious corruptor and pull up the info on FFG. Now see where it says something like "As used by a [pulldown: Corruptor]"? Change that to defender, and you'll see the numbers change to fit the buff/debuff modifier. Yes, you can do this on the live server now. Not the test server with the open beta.
Also, brutes and stalkers are getting the same changes to /elec as the hero versions are. The reason the powers got changed is because the devs have a bit of a rule that no epics should duplicate a power any set that could get those epics already has. Conserve power is available to scrappers, thus had to be removed either from the epics or the /elec powerset.
Be happy they chose to modify /elec. They could have chosen to modify the conserve power that's in the epics, then the hereos would be the only ones who get buffed, and your whine whine villains would be whine whinier.
This was a bit harsher than my usual posts, but I cannot abide usless, unfounded whining. -
Wait, what did I do?
I'm seriously not trying to troll... Are you saying it's better to attack the pets first? Looking back on it, probably...
But my question remains: Everyone who I played against used the same tactics of attacking me and not my pets. What could have been different besides DR, and how could that have made such a difference? -
Hello, I'm a PvP n00b. I don't know anything about PvP prior to ... two weeks ago? Point is, I don't know anything about how it works, and I have a few questions because my four matches had some really weird results.
So anyway, I'm running a bots/traps MM, and I've fought against two brutes, one tank, and one scrapper. Every one was smart enough to attack me directly, not my pets.
The first brute was at level 26, and I wrecked him.
The rest were all at level 50, all in the same night. I annihilated an INV/stone tank. He admitted to it being his first time trying PvP with that character, and said that his spines/regen scrapper could eat me alive.
I was a little afraid of the scrapper because of the AoE that could eat my bots. I kept them away from me but within BG range. Another easy win.
So then I go against an INV/SS brute who asked "DR or no DR?" before the match. I said "Uh... what's the difference?" We fought with no DR, and I got my clock cleaned twice in a row.
I'm going to attribute my loss to the fact that DR has a serious effect on gameplay and especially set bonuses, as I had very few.
How could I have such an easy time against the first three, but be completely wrecked by the fourth? -

Random threadjack and self promotion, I have a bit of a guide on what the soft cap means in terms of probability, aggregate odds, and survival.
And yes, random number generator is random. Probability is oft foiled in the short term, but prevails in long term. -

Quote:Thank you so much. I hope the case is that pets scale with you and just lose the buffs they shouldn't have, so you don't have to keep re-summoning when the mission owner changes all the time. It would half defeat the purpose of zoning pets.I'll check this out on Test tonight (assuming I can get in) and see what happens.
By the way, and I know this is totally random and all, and you've probably heard it before, but you're a swell guy, you know that? -
Holy hell, I cannot wait for this to hit live. Just last night I rejoined my ITF group on the last mission, and was met by a door ambush before I could summon my pets. No more!
I have some questions about it though... Think about Bloody Bay that auto malfactors you to 25. You could, in theory, summon all your pets outside of bloody bay, do both upgrades, then zone in and destroy stuff! According to new exemp rules, you would be able to summon the tier 3 in Bloody Bay, so no problem there. (You get powers up to 5 levels higher than your exemp level) The problem is that you shouldn't have the the level 32 upgrade, but you zoned in with pre-buffed pets... Overpowered and a half, anyone? -
Quote:Not that I'm aware of, it hasn't.Can anyone tell what is TF/SF DR timer now? It was 24 hours in the past. It's been changed since i14 or i15.

Edit to add: If it did change, you'll be able to find it on the http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/patch_notes/ page as quickly as I would. -
First, welcome to the game! MM's are my personal favorite AT, but I don't have much experience playing ninjas and much less with /storm.
That said, I believe you picked a very good set to compliment fire/dark corruptor. Fire/dark will be an AoE powerhouse of damage and Ninjas are very single target oriented, so you should be able to take anything down. Her /dark is going to help protect and keep your pets alive. Storm is, from what I hear, very difficult to play properly, but can be very powerful if you can. I think you're going to have a lot of fun with this.
I would suggest looking in the defender forums for a guide on how to play /storm. -
I'm in the mood for some entertainment, so let's hear some stories! What are some times that you've gone into scrapperlock?
Was it a bad team that you were tired of waiting on? Was it an amazing team where everyone was off doing their own thing, accomplishing all the goals at once? Or did you simply get ahead of yourself and stuck in scrapperlock?
I know I keep saying "scrapperlock," but I realize any AT can go off soloing on a team.
I'll throw my two stories out there to start off. Both involve my bots/traps MM on two separate ITF's.
On the first one I joined a team with one of those overbearing, micromanaging leaders. Not always a bad thing, but I believe that if the team's doing alright, don't interfere. Anyway, we were in the caves to destroy the shadow cysts and I went one way while the other seven went another. After a minute the leader realized it, and said "We're split!" followed by "I can't keep you alive if you're not with the team."
Forgive me, but that comment pissed me off. I don't need to be kept alive. I may have less hitpoints than any other AT, but I am by no means squishy! I quickly replied "You are under no obligation to save me." and continued on my way.
In retrospect, I'm lucky I didn't get kicked for that. I think it was the stone brute that said "Let him go, his bots get in the way." who saved me.
The second case is a tragic story of failure. Our team had decided to jump to rommie, and then kill traitors. This awesome team then proceeded to straight up DPS kill Rommie four times in a row in a matter of minutes. (Amazing what four corruptors can do for a team.) After that, we all went our separate ways to take down traitors and finish the mission. Several of us jumped to one tower, and I, seeing it rather crowded, jumped to the second. I pulled one spawn that died quickly, and then ran into another three or so and faceplanted faster than ... well, just really damn fast.
I figured out what happened. The last time I summoned a FFG was before we started with rommie. Me and my bots jumped into three spawns of traitors 15% away from the softcap.

Quote:Ooooooh shiny! That does sound really interesting, but how would it work with repeatable content?Interestingly, the new WoW expansion is using more of something they call "phasing". It basically allows you to see the results of your actions in the game world, but other players in the zone with you won't see it. I expect this is hard to do, but I think it's heralding what will eventually be an important advance in MMOs. With phasing, you might for example destroy a villain's hideout and see that the building is now rubble, but other players who haven't done that arc see it as whole and untouched.
Assuming CoH lives for a few more years, it's something I'd love to see introduced to this game.
Obviously, if you're doing it via Ouroboros, the item in question would "phase" back to the way it was while you're "back in time."
But how do you go into the rubble left of a building when your buddy runs the same arc later and asks you to tag along? -

Quote:Don't forget the stalker assassin strike nerf. Something like doubling recharge and interrupt times, and needing to be in range at the END of the strike for it to work. They also decided to nerf super strength in a non-specific way. The details of this nerf will be kept under wraps until a proper frenzy has been stirred in the rumor mill.
Oh, and they're going to nerf fire control to summon only one imp.
Same with Illusion control. It will now summon the Phantom Army of One.
Seriously though, as for the bodyguard nerf, I know what they're talking about. MM's are overpowered in PvP, so they are changing how we can play in PvP zones. It's actually an indirect bodyguard mode nerf: what's changing is that they won't let us summon henchmen in PvP zones. We are to use our personal attacks and secondary powers only. -
First.
Edit to add: This is some great stuff! Thanks for the info Niv. -
Quote:I agree with this. Just because you have henchmen, doesn't mean you're evil. My namesake runs bots, and they are expendable.Says you. Jan Boa runs a tight ship, she makes sure her gang members get medical treatment, that they're paid well, entertained and happy. In return, she gets loyal troops who are less likely to turn on her, work harder, and build up a proper, well organized and co-ordinated group.
My friend's character, Josie Ironside, treats her Robots better than some people treat other humans.
You get better results with the carrot than the stick at times.
I have a "Brute Squad" of thugs (to include such names as Inigo, Rugen, Westley, and Vizzini, the arsonist is Miracle Max and the bruiser is Fezzik) that are all paid very well for the work they do. And the dental plan? It's top of the line. -
Quote:But if you place ten bids on the same item, you can't cancel just one of those ten. You cancel all ten at the same time, giving you 20 billion inf, which means 18 billion gets discarded because of the cap. Whether you put 2 or 10 or 20 billion into one auction house slot, you can only get 2 billion out.Even higher than that. If you make two duplicate 2 billion bids for an item, they'll stack. Do this 10 times, to have a stack of ten 2 billion inf bids. Do this for 20 of your auction slots, then fill the last one with a 2 billion inf bid. Then, add in the 2 billion you have on hand, and you get the grand total of 404 billion.
And when someone reaches the 66 month badge, this will go up to 424 billion. -

Quote:That 2.00x base accuracy is a fallacy. It doesn't mean anything, since that's only the accuracy of the summon power, which can't really miss...In fact he was, he now accepts them, along with accurate healing (IIRC). I considered swapping to Siphon Insight, but I saw (2) 2% Debt protection, (I think it's debt protection. I may be mistaken) had a quick chuckle to myself, and slotted some more HOs :P
Edit: I also don't see Accurate toHit debuff being worth its salt in Dark Servant, due to his 2.00x base accuracy multiplier. Mine has 3.33x Accuracy from the HOs as, well, you can never have too much. Still, if you needed to cut down on something to make room for more tohit...i'd make it accuracy

Heh, good to know someone thinks it's a decent idea.
Maybe I could hold it in the Golden Giza in St. Martial? I'd only be able to cater to redside, but we'd actually be able to bet... -
Quote:Alright, you bring up a lot of good points. I especially wasn't thinking about how the animation times and attention requirements were factored into the balance of the powers. I rescind my request to have this suggestion considered.Except that the buffs were already permanent and were already being applied to pretty much every pet out anyway (and the application of those was actually factored in to the internal balance of the AT). It didn't change any real effect because the buffs were never intended to be activated after the initial cast.
The big issue with making them permanent is that you're eliminating the primary balance factors for the powers: animation time and attention. The buffs require that you actually stop doing other stuff (re: killing) and spend 30 seconds buffing your teammates every 4 minutes or so (in the case of FF, Thermal, Cold, and Sonic).
As to making them AoE but with restrictions, you remove a lot of the utility as well as making them a lot more powerful. When it only takes 2 seconds every 4 minutes to reapply buffs, you're paying a lot less animation time for the exact same bonus, moreso if you factor in affecting pets that normally get ignored because it's hard to find/target them normally. If you restricted the buffs to only your own pets and teammates, you're removing a lot of the other utility that many shield players have come to appreciate. I know that, whenever AoEs are flying around like crazy and pets aren't surviving, I'll oftentimes spend a few extra seconds to buff the little buggers so that the Controllers can keep them up. For RWZ raids, I often spend all or most of the time on my FF fender keeping my shields up on everyone rather than blasting because I realize that keeping everyone alive is making everything move faster than my blasting a bit, especially where other Controllers and Defenders are concerned.
I'll just remain very appreciative of the good/attentive buffers. -
Quote:My point is, this is exactly what they did to MM's. They made the buffs cost more endurance, and I honestly feel it was a QoL improvement that maintained balance.I believe one of the devs commented on this a couple of years ago and said that changes of this sort in buff powers wouldn't be free. Like an AoE or 5 minute long Speed Boost would end up with either a weaker buff, dramatically increased End, or both. At which point everyone in the thread said "never mind!"

Hey, I'm a veritable n00b when it comes to RP. Just gave it my first real attempt this weekend and decided I'd brave the scene at Pocket D. I planned to avoid anything with a bunny tail, cat ears, or the chest slider set all the way to the right.
Turned out to be a great evening and a lot of fun. Maybe I ran into a good crowd or just got lucky, or maybe Pocked D has a worse reputation than is deserved.
Every time I showed up, there was a player actually tending the bar. I'm sure this is old news to everyone reading this, but I'd have never guessed that would happen!
Anyway, on to the point of my thread: I went exploring the place a bit and noticed there's a small casino with table games set up. There's even roped off sections for a dealer.
My character loves card games, particularly poker and blackjack. I'd imagine setting up a poker tournament nigh impossible, but what are the chances I could get a table of blackjack going? Would people be more interested in playing blackjack or just standing around RPing that they're playing blackjack?
It'd be neat if people could actually bet, but because there's not redside/blueside trades, it's impossible.
