RP Gambling interest?
If you could manage to set this up, this seems to be a very nice idea. Even though I extremely rarely go to pocket D because of certain crowds, it would be nice for an actual rp mini-event to occur there. I am Sergeant Jag Blade and I unofficially officially support this idea!
Heh, good to know someone thinks it's a decent idea.
Maybe I could hold it in the Golden Giza in St. Martial? I'd only be able to cater to redside, but we'd actually be able to bet...

With the help of forums folks and the Cape Radio, our supergroup has set up more immersive events in the D before. And while most of our planning details are not practical for daily roleplay, perhaps some of it can be of help. We ran the casino tables for only one evening (as part of a larger event for a video release) but across two instances using uniformed dealers, emotes for gambling, and "holders" for rewards on both factionsides.
The dealers, bartenders, bookies, and waitresses: Though costume contests were held for guests, only the volunteers came in uniform. For me, setting a theme is everything. Also, we knew there would be a bit of confusion with guests who wished to help out and would jump inside the velvet roped tables to gamble with others (it was a matter of guests knowing where they could expect pay-outs and prizes from pre-enlisted roleplay-friendly volunteers). Female characters (table dealers, waitresses) dressed in various jeweltone shades of the similiar specifications and gentlemen (table dealers and bookies) were free to dress in anything resembling a mobster. If I recall, the DJ had a sharp dinner tuxedo.
For daily roleplay, I imagine having the last costume slot set aside for a white dinner tux, mob look, or cocktail waitress would help others see you through a crowd of various civvy-clad bodies.
The gambling: We set up emote games per table. Best of three for dice rolls or rock paper scissors. The main gambling table had folks simultaneously raising numbered cards; those matching the host dealer would win. We had 2-3 'bunnies' at the slot machines. They'd roll dice to match so that the guest could see his results. [.. pausing to recall details, this was two years ago, I'll pull up my event album. How geeky is that? ] Oh and the bookies would call for bets to placed on the cage monkey fights. You can get one or two good fights from the monkeys. There was also a PvP hour, costume hour, etc so it was a themed night of which the gambling itself was the focus.
Dual faction payout: We had both hero and villain dealers without limitation on who could run a table or event. If a hero walked up and won at the roulette table, the villain dealer was able to pm a nearby hero co-host or one of the general floor managers (an overall event organizer) to pay out. We often save up for a year to give out various prizes. From having 1-300 HO's, costume salvage sets, Christmas present inspirations, etc. Things easily available in stock for both sides. I imagine any amount of influence/infamy would work as well.
Oh look.. bunnies.
Man.. looking at these and the other event albums makes me want to run another.
I didn't read through all this thread, just popping in to say
Turned out to be a great evening and a lot of fun. Maybe I ran into a good crowd or just got lucky, or maybe Pocked D has a worse reputation than is deserved.

Also, good luck in trying to set up an RP gambling thing. Sounds like an interesting idea, and a great excuse to strike up random conversations with complete strangers.

Why does Pocket D have such a bad reputation? I never go there, if I RP, it's in teams or with people I roll with, not the D............

So in Pocket D, everybody has the time to devote to just RPing that doesn't appear in RP PUGs, but without the comfort of being surrounded by people who're mostly on the same page as you, like in RP SG/VGs. Add in a typical dose of internet hyperbole, and the most amusingly weird bits of roleplaying being parroted all over the community until they appear to be common events rather than occurances remarkable for their absurdity as much as anything, and you wind up with a pretty badly distorted reflection of the actual tendencies of the place.
This is not to suggest that all the freakish horror stories have no place in reality. The rumors all started somewhere (usually in private arena duels near the monkey cages, from what I've seen), and DJ Zero is still searching for a method to remove the stains.

Hey, I'm a veritable n00b when it comes to RP. Just gave it my first real attempt this weekend and decided I'd brave the scene at Pocket D. I planned to avoid anything with a bunny tail, cat ears, or the chest slider set all the way to the right.
Turned out to be a great evening and a lot of fun. Maybe I ran into a good crowd or just got lucky, or maybe Pocked D has a worse reputation than is deserved.
Every time I showed up, there was a player actually tending the bar. I'm sure this is old news to everyone reading this, but I'd have never guessed that would happen!
Anyway, on to the point of my thread: I went exploring the place a bit and noticed there's a small casino with table games set up. There's even roped off sections for a dealer.
My character loves card games, particularly poker and blackjack. I'd imagine setting up a poker tournament nigh impossible, but what are the chances I could get a table of blackjack going? Would people be more interested in playing blackjack or just standing around RPing that they're playing blackjack?
It'd be neat if people could actually bet, but because there's not redside/blueside trades, it's impossible.
