I can't think of a more accurate way to measure the difficulty of a task than to look at the median time to completion.
-
Dechs Kaison, level 50 bots/traps, willing to make this happen.
-
Quote:Because at the end of it all, they still completed the same task. But why should a team that skips content get the same merit reward for a team that does not?
Allow me to make my position perfectly clear:
I feel merits are awarded for the task. "You stopped Vandal. Hooray!" Whether you did it in 20 minutes or 20 days, the end result is the same.
XP, inf, drops are all rewards of defeating enemies. Since these 'optional objectives' have their own rewards, skipping them already incurs a penalty.
The people who are efficient at saving the day should not be penalized for this. They've already penalized themselves by not receiving the other rewards.
All defender teams that tear through the game at blinding pace should not be penalized either. They're better at this game than we are. Typically, the people better at a sport end up winning the trophy. -
I shamelessly keep throwing this out there every time I see a TriFormShade asking for advice.
As to your questions...
I never saw a need for essence drain.
Best thing to slot in Nova/Dwarf forms is the +end proc from Performance shifter. If you can't afford that right away, leave nova with the base slot and throw end reduc in it. Slot dwarf for resistance and the proc when you can afford it (the proc and the extra slots)
Gaussian's proc? I wouldn't. It'll hardly ever fire when it's useful.
Recharge, yes. I personally took combat jumping, stealth, invisibility, and grant invisibility as mules for LotG +recharges, for a total of five with Shadow Cloak. If you'll get use of of the powers you slot LotGs in, that's a bonus. -
Quote:This.Given the lack of any information about what you think should be in the set and what would make it different to say Willpower or Invulnerability (both of which would make fine Reptile sets) adding more reptile cossies and just choosing one of those two sets (or Regen or whatever else you fancied trying out) instead would seem to be to be a far more flexible solution.
Quote:This wouldn't really work because, so far, all the powersets work specifically with effects, not causes. The effect of Ice Armour is that you end up covered in slippery ice that boosts your defence. The effect of Invulnerability is attacks not harming the character so much. The cause is always up to the player - which leaves Reptile Armour looking a bit out-of-place, as it is specifically a cause and not an effect.
Anything as restrictive as Reptile Armor is just a terrible idea. -
Quote:Couldn't watch it until now, but that's ok, Clouded pretty much said what I would have. But if that's the only challenge... Here's my scrapper... I also fought multiple groups of each faction. =)

Forgive the periodically low FPS, low graphics settings, and stupid mistakes. Currently having problems with my laptop and was watching my component temps on another screen. >_>
I survived solely on the merits of dark armor and IOs, whereas you leveraged shields, IOs, and leaned on your attacks as a crutch. Not only did shields receive the heal, but I saw your endurance bottoming out pretty damn fast. Without dark consumption, you'd have eaten dirt.
That said, it was still awesome.
I think I need to reiterate what the point of my thread was, and what it wasn't. I was never here to say "Look how awesome Dark Armor is" or "Look how awesome I can play."
Someone told me "Dark Armor sucks. It can't tank anything." This is my response. -
Quote:This is your problem. My warshade (with eclipse) did better the more enemies I had to fight. At around x6 I was happy, but x8 seemed to make it even easier.I run on 0/x3 and don't feel like going higher as it already takes too long.
"Must find more bodies..." -

Quote:Honestly, I can't tell the difference when it is working and when it isn't. If I hit three or 8 or none. Can't tell a dang thing is different.Quote:Or as I mentioned earlier, freak people out by running ahead of the tank and jumping into AV spawns.
My warshade feels like a flying nuclear battleship with a side of steriods and heaps awesomesauce. Nova form with 85% resist to everything.
Now, if you're talking about the difference between dwarf form and eclipse'd dwarf form, there's not too much of a difference there, especially if there's a tank or a 'fender on the team.
But running solo? There's nothing better than being a squiddy ball of invincible doom with fluffy balls of extra doom floating behind you.
Edit to add something on topic: I have a human only peacebringer which fairs very well. I have the slots to fill out the human attacks so it allows me to leverage lightform more effectively since I don't rely on the form shifts that it locks me out of.
But it'll be a cold day in hell before I take nova and dwarf out of my 'shade. -

That takes inspirations.
Again, if it's so easy, let's see you do it. -
Quote:I think you're missing the point. He's saying that brutes are supposed to be all RAH RAH SMASH, and super reflexes doesn't "fit the theme" so to speak.Except that Brutes arent the villain-side tank... they're the villain-side scrapper. MMs are the villain-side tank. This has been stated many times by the rednames.
Also, MMs were not originally the villain side tank because they didn't have bodyguard mode at launch. -
I think this is an intended consequence.
You'll roll a separate badger to keep from ruining your good hero's reputation, which means you spend even more time getting the new badger up to speed with your old one before even starting the new badges.
But also we suspect there will be badges for never going rogue, so it could be impossible to get every badge. -
Quote:I honestly have to see this. What server are you on?My ice tank does great and he's my only tank without Taunt. Auras + gauntlet + big damage will do wonders for your aggro management. I'll stroll over to a group, running Icicles and Chilling Embrace and drop an Ice Storm. The instant they start to run, I use Footstomp. Ice Storm and Footstomp with Rage and a pile of +damage set bonuses is a sight to behold.
If no enemy launches even a SINGLE attack at a teammate, where is there room for improvement? -
1. I knew you'd be back.
2. One of the sets that's best at single target damage is one of the worst at AoE damage. Oh my. Welcome to balance. -
Quote:I'm sorry about the confusion. When I said "I have included bosses" I meant that I've done it. I didn't video it because it takes too long to kill them. Malta Gunslingers and Zeus Titans? I can handle them. Dark Ring Mistresses and Master Illusionists force me into a stalemate because I can't kill as quickly as they heal.In other words, we never see a boss except for the one occasion where it's a downgraded one. If everything was really in +4/x8 then there was some mob manipulation as there'll always be at least one boss, downgraded or not, and there's none in the carnie fight. We never see the most troublesome mobs in the factions fought (malta zeus with swarm missiles, fortunata mistresses with tactics, tarentula mistresses with extremely high def debuff, dark mistresses with extremely high def debuff, master illusionists). Action cuts back and forth so the viewer can't see how bad the endurance management gets (except for the final part against maltas which is played straight, and shows how painfully it gets).
Each of those clips was just the first group I walked into when set for +4/x8, no bosses. I have the rest of the carnie clip in raw footage, but again, it takes a while and I only had time to finish one fight, so I chose Malta. If you saw it in that video, aside from the monsters, I killed it.
I did leave my insp tray up to show I never used a single one. Those troublesome bosses with huge defense debuffs become trivial once you gobble a purple to stay above.
I'd still like to see you do the same.
As for "the benchmark," I'd say it should be main tanking for an MoSTF without teammate buffs. If you can do that, you're a hell of a tank. -
IOs really don't help these as much as they do other ATs. In general, set bonuses only help the MM, not his pets.
I'd like to put forth a vote for warshades and peacebringers. As they are slot starved, sets really help them get the most from their builds. -
Quote:The whole fight's in there, it keeps cutting back and forth. And it is set for +4/x8.Not really impressive, to me. Tanker fighting +4/x6 for less than a minute before cutting to another fight... Meh. Endurance was going down very fast against the carnies, and without knowing the build it might have well be a completely IOed out character (in which case a complete +4/x8 fight, bosses enabled, start to finish, should be the benchmark IMHO).
I have included bosses, but they take too damn long to kill. I have an RWZ challenge (lvl 54 Rikti group with at least three bosses, dragged to a pylon and killed to the last) video that's too long for YouTube because tanker damage is just so low.
EDIT: I would love to see responses posted. What's the potential of some other builds? Show me a willpower tanker that can solo +4/x8 Malta and Carnies. Hell, I'd love to see a stoner that could do it. I bet if anyone, he'd have the hardest time.
Especially since you posted how easy it is for an IO'd tanker, show us yours. -

Quote:This is especially true when comparing AAO to something like Death Shroud.Well..... I can't agree. There is tremendous variation in the effectiveness of the taunt auras. Some are great and fit your description - but some suck. Taunt is consistent across sets.
One requires a to-hit check. The other is surprisingly effective at pissing mobs off. -
Quote:I would love to see it. I like seeing people do awesome things with their characters. One of the reasons I like this game so much is because of the convention breaking manner in which we're able to accomplish things.[T]he bolded part here, makes me want to roll up another IOed WP/ tanker (because I really REALLY can't stand Energy Melee anymore due to ET), to show you, they can be built to be just like that.
With just my /WP Scrapper, I can ignore the END Drainers due to high defense, QR, Stamina, and PP all having +END Procs in them.
Thank you.
Quote:The one problem I have with "Dark" armor is that it's highest resist is Psi instead of Negative?? All the other elemental armors can cap against their element (fire, elec, ice), but for some reason dark can't??? O.o
If you'll notice though, the resistance comes in chunks. S/L/F/C all get the same resistance values. Half of the negative comes with the S/L shield, and the other half comes with the F/C shield. Energy is exactly half of the negative energy. Perhaps they could throw "another half" into the psi/status shield. That would be enough to cap resistance to negative after slotting.
Of course, there's nothing I'd be willing to trade for that benefit.
Indeed.
Quote:*shrug* 25% end drain resist in Resist Energies is better than nothing ;p
Comparatively, my psionic resist is 81%. Psionic attacks hit me and my health bar doesn't flinch.
My energy resistance is 31%. Energy attacks hurt so badly that I worked the build to cap defense to E/N just to protect myself.
So, comparatively, 25% end drain resist may be better than nothing, but it's still going to hurt.
I'd still suggest it. Right after your demon summoner. -
Quote:That's not an opinion. It is hard demonstratable fact.So don't say "Highlighted portion is demonstrably untrue" because that is simply your opinion and that's where it stops.
My experience might differ to yours however I am able to aknowledge that... instead of saying that my "opinion, is the truth", like yourself.
A team of eight controllers can and has succeed at the MoSTF. Therefore a tank is not required.
A team of eight defenders can and has succeeded at the MoSTF. Therefore control is not required.
A team of eight blasters can and has succeed at the MoSTF. Therefore buffing and debuffing is not required.
The only thing required to advance in this game, as Aett pointed out, is damage.
If you cannot contribute to the required portion of the team, you will be replaced.
Gah, my humblest apologies Adeon. I know you were there. I think the rad/ defender wasn't, and I'm missremembering. -
I'm going Demon/Pain with the plan of taking at least two of the attacks for stacking -res, and supplimenting demon resist with all the /Pain goodies.
It's going to be some kind of tankermind, I think.
Painbinger added to hell on earth should be nice as well. -
