  1. Brutes are also highly soloable redside; Willpower is a good place to start for secondary, Super Strength is a good primary to pair with it. I would avoid Dual Blades as a beginner since it uses a unique combo system.

Bots/Dark is an excellent combo for Masterminds. Like Fury said, most MMs are pretty good, although Bots and Thugs are the high performers. I haven't played it personally, but Bots/Force Field is supposed to be easy mode.

The official story is that Hamidon was defeated during the Hamidon Wars. I haven't progressed enough in Praetoria to know if anything else has been revealed about this, but it was even hinted in the promotional materials for GR that he may not be gone for good. Perhaps he'll be involved with the some of the end-game raid content?

new shinies?? What do you mean? Hami raids are done for the Enhancement it gives out. You don't just quit doing raids because there is new material. You incorporate the new material into your routine, but by not doing hammi raids how on earth are you suppose to obtain the strongest character possible? Those enhancements are priceless!

    note: I have'nt played since 2007.
Set IOs be used to buff characters up pretty well, I don't think Hami-Os are used too much any more (not to say they aren't used, but they aren't the be-all-end-all anymore). Like Kyzock said, the "new" Hami-Os (in terms of highly sought-after and powerful enhancements) are PvP IOs (drop off PvP kills only) and purple IOs (extremely rare -- estimate are something like 1 in every 1000-2000 kills -- IOs that only drop from enemies capable of dropping level 50 stuff). Hami-O's will still sell for quite a bit, but they're no longer the most valuable item in the game, and the days of doing an entire raid to get a single enhancement are gone; inf is much easier to come by these days, and you can get quite a bit of what you need just from the markets.

gr, this is a bad time to come back. So much information scattered about. Maybe the best thing for me to do is to make a new character instead of working with the ones I've made previously.
You're wrong, this is an awesome time to come back. Yeah, there's a lot to learn, and yeah, it's overwhelming, but once you understand it you'll realize how much better the game is. My suggestion would be to start here, pick the first Issue that was released after you stopped playing (sounds like you missed Issue 9), and work through the wiki to see what you've missed. (Note about the wiki: DO NOT follow any link to a CoH wiki hosted at Wikia, that wiki is plagued with spammers and malware. paragonwiki.com or wiki.cohtitan.com are the links you want.)

As for which you're better off doing, new vs. existing character...gosh, that's a tough one. I suppose the most obnoxious thing with an existing character would be respeccing, yeah.

By the way, you don't need to defeat bosses, minions will suffice.

    Def vs Res

Those extra 2.8 points probably aren't going to make a world of difference. if something manages to kill you at 87.2% Resistance, it's probably still going to kill you at 90% Resistance.

    Costume Codes

Create an interesting costume and show up at one of the remaining Pocket D parties. If your costume impresses Avatea (or whichever mod shows up) enough you could win the Party Pack and your choice of a costume code. The remaining parties are on Monday, on Freedom, Virtue and Victory at 6, 7 and 8 PM EST, respectively.

For what it's worth, I would give you the KoA code I got from last year's Twitter contest, but it's already applied to my account. Once the code is applied, it can no longer be used, so make sure if someone does give you a code that it actually works before you give them something in exchange.
  7. I'm not sure what you mean by "ultra buff", but no, lack of Hami Raids is more indicative of lack of will rather than lack of skill (also lack of interest; can't run a raid without folks who want to run it). We've got plenty of folks who could and probably have run them in the past, they just don't for whatever reason (although I can think of a few people who might have run them privately with their SGs/coalition prior to Going Rogue, but I would guess even they've abandoned them in favor of new shinies).
  8. I believe Ship Raids are currently run on a regular basis, although I've been too busy to do them recently so I dunno about their current status with the release of GR. Haven't seen a (public) Hami Raid in a while; there was an effort at getting regular redside Hami raids started a while back but aside from two successful raids nothing much happened with them (the last one didn't even start due to lack of people showing up). I guess you could consider the Cathedral of Pain (that's right, it's back) a mini-raid, since 24 people can do it, but it's instanced. Base raids are dead, the CoP functions without them, and claiming an IoP now results in a temporary (and some would argue not-quite-worth it) buff, along with the old IoP badge (Power Liberator/Master Thief).

Welcome back! Make sure you're on PinnBadges if you aren't already, it's still alive and kicking and a little surly from all the booze.

Anyone out there think this makes sense? Im thinking about re-rolling because of that, but not sure if its entirly true.

    Thanks.
It makes sense, but in practice it doesn't really interfere that much with Fury generation. Although as I think about it, I'm making this statement based on the pre-I18* rules for Fury generation, I haven't played my Dark/Dark Brute since I18 went Live. Since Fury now decays more slowly below a certain percentage (what is it, 80%?), I'm thinking this will improve a Dark Brute's ability to maintain Fury post-I18.

I play a stone/dark brute who almost never gets attacked, due to Gloom and spamming Fault. Honestly, I think the whole fury issue is blown out of proportion. Just keep attacking at a regular pace and you'll be fine.
    This.

*I typed this as I8 at first...can't believe the game has come this far.

This is literally a Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, and it's actually over something more stupid than sexuality.
  11. Heroes, Vigilantes, Rogues, and Villains all have access to the Epic Power Pools at all times*. Patron Pools function the same as they always have -- you can't access them until you've done a Patron's arc**, which naturally requires you to be a full Villain in order to start the arc. Once the arc is completed, Patron Pools are accessible for that character regardless of future alignment.

*Villain archetypes get modified versions of the Hero Archetype pools. The rough mappings are: Brute->Tanker, Stalker->Scrapper, Corruptor->Blaster, Dominator->Controller (Masterminds seem to get some sort of hodge-podge from what I can tell).
**Any Patron's arc will unlock all of the Patron Pools.

    CoP reward buff

It's the same badge for heroes and Villains, isn't it? Pain Killer certainly is, I don't seem to be able to find information on the supposed badge you get if you select the IoP reward.

Anyway, at this point I've given up on the CoP until at least the AV firing through its shield is fixed. Even then, I might wait a bit until people learn a bit more about it and I can at least get a guarantee of being with a group that can coordinate those stupid towers.

EDIT: Doy, it's Power Liberator/Master Thief. No wonder why I couldn't find it on the list of badges added in I18 -- it was added in I7! Anyway, yeah, there should be no reason for you to remain Vigilante until the CoP is fixed for badging purposes.
  13. I don't think there's been a single bad rendition of JJJ in animation or live-action. Okay, maybe the one played by Darrin's boss from Bewitched.

I yield to your point and depressing reality.
  15. Certainly the fact that Hurdle/Health/Stamina will all be inherent next issue is worth mentioning.
  16. Although the timer is 20 hours, the in-game text (the alignment "contacts" Redemption and Pit) say that it's 24. Hope that's fixed in the next patch.

    PvE

The good news (for now) is that aside from being able to do morality missions, there's actually no content available for level 50s in Going Rogue. However, we do know that the upcoming endgame system will tie into Praetoria and that you will need GR in order to access it.

Not being able to slot them could have been a possible trade-off for them becoming inherent. That's not the case, but when we first found out about this we weren't sure.
  19. It's probably because you're not used to playing characters that don't have accuracy enhancements slotted (the low-level Beginner's Luck accuracy buff helps mitigate this a bit, but it decays before you have a chance to actually slot something worthwhile).

Look, I can fully understand that "there's always something to ruin it" feeling. I used to feel the same way until the NC Switchover and Positron's promise to "give the players what they want." But since then? Haven't felt that way at all. At no point since then has it felt like someone was deliberately sitting down and designing annoying crap into good changes just to mess with us.
You left out "Beginner's Luck", which is arguably the closest "unpaid" buff to Fitness becoming inherent.

Of course, there actually IS a tradeoff for making Fitness an inherent -- it's still enhanceable, so those additional 3 powers you get in your build? You still have to enhance those with the same amount of slots if you want to retain your original performance values out of Health and Stamina (and, uh, Swift and Hurdle I guess, if for some reason you've added slots to them).

I've looked at the builds for my major characters and don't see too many of them changing in any significant way. Hell, I probably won't even bother respeccing my Bots/Dark MM, just because there's literally no other power I would want to take on him. But my Crab Spider? I abandoned him at 32 because he performed poorly due to a tight and badly put-together build. But getting 3 extra powers will help immensely, even if slotting them will be tough.

Right, except he can still use the difficulty slider to make the game as hard as he wants (and frankly I think he's exaggerating that +4/x8 is too easy for him, or he's outright trolling). It doesn't work as well in the opposite direction.

To be honest though, I am hoping that this won't be enforced for every existing build. Although it would certainly help some of my characters by freeing up a couple slots, I think most of them would probably end up taking Fitness anyway just for a lack of anything else to take. The only benefit I'm seeing here is not having to sit around and wait for endurance to recover (or use Rest if it happens to be up) at low levels. if you define "too easy" as "less tedious" then yeah I guess that would make things too easy.

Thankfully we have a difficulty slider in the game, allowing you to make it as hard as you want no matter how "easy" the devs make the game.

Which actually reminds me. Any comment on a difficulty slider in Praetoria?
