Total Focus? Attack Chain Staple. Never leave home without it.
-
Just looking into what's hot and what's not, on a budget! Thanks.
-
When I got this exact spawn, was on RWZ mish from Levantera I believe it was the Rescue Arnold Decker, set to x8 +4 with all the bells and whistles.
I took one look, exited, autocompleted the mission. Ice Blaster no handle good. -
Incarnate is endgame. Endgame is (slightly) harder. Harder = better rewards.
Forcing content.... hmmmm. Naw. I do what I want. -
Mind Controller and no. Deleted. Unfortunately, I never got the name back. Dr. Eidolon.
-
If I ever felt like someone was applying pressure to me in a game world, I would ruin them. RUIN!!!!
But seriously, no. Tons of people still running tons of stuff. Not everyone is grinding the Inc. -
EDIT: nevermind. I see that it's been cleared up.

Quote:Show me an example of me doing that.Pot, meet kettle. I've seen a ton of complaining about how "evil" people derail threads with their nonsense, when the "good" people derail threads with their righteous crusades just as much. Has it ever occurred to "you people" that perhaps this derails wouldn't happen if you didn't play moderator every time?

Quote:Okay... well. I'll answer the bullet points then.I'm sorry if it came off that way, I'm trying to encourage people with that. There was no snark intended.
I don't have a secret goal of convincing the world that the pets suck. My "secret" goal is to hear other perspectives on the topic, and I've already seen several that have made me think differently about Incarnate powers, including those that like or don't care about the lore. If you have anything else to share, I'd love to hear it.
And thanks again to everyone that has responded with their thoughts on the topic.
"How do you feel about the powers themselves based on the information that has been released so far, including in the sneak peaks and threads about them (here's a decent one, here's another, there are more), in terms of gameplay and how you feel about your characters having them (regardless of the lore)?"
More powers = better.
"How would you feel about your characters if everyone else had a significant number of extremely effective and visible powers that are similar or identical to yours? (If you are choosing to skip these powers, please instead say how you would feel about everyone else having the same or similar powers)"
I don't feel anything about what other characters have. If everyone has nukes that are better than mine and I'm on my blaster, I'll hold my nuke for later, or go single target for a while. I like watching other characters suceed and therefore, more powers for everyone is great.
"How do you feel about the lore concept that Incarnate powers are not really yours, but granted by/stolen from an entity that has been stated to be insane (in the issue 20 overview)? How do you feel about your fellow heroes/villains being given/stealing these powers by/from that entity? If you plan to ignore the lore for your characters, go ahead and say so, but give your opinion on it too if you have one, please."
If you want to be an Incarnate, you have to be the incarnate of something. You are already the incarnate of yourself. Those who undertake that perilous task have to accept the consequences of treating with powers greater than theirs. You don't choose to be an incarnate, the Well chooses you (luckily, in game terms, you can choose to opt out). That's my take on the lore. But I'll just ignore it anyways. I find my imagination is always better than video game writing.
"Do you believe that character diversity is an important part of this game in general? If so, please say why, and from the information you have so far from the sneak-peaks or the threads about them, what impact do you feel the Incarnate system will have on that diversity, and the game as a whole? If not, why not?"
Incarnate system increases that diversity. More choices = different ways to play. Someone always finds optimal and many often copy them. But some of us are stubborn and find a whole different sort of 'optimal'.
Example: with an incarnate nuke, a blaster could have two nukes and cycle per spawn, or drop the nuke from the powerset and take another power for more utility.
A Tank could drop a few pets to soak up some damage. A mastermind could drop some pets and some more pets. Maybe the Tank is not interested in pets at the moment, and drops a nuke. Maybe not. NOW, every take has a large toolkit and the good ones will know what to do when, and the bad ones will still forget to taunt.
Basically, now people will really modify builds, slotting, epic pools etc. -
-
If you pick your powersets based on theme, pick your incarnate slots based on theme. You will not be able to fill them all for a while anyways.
Just for me, I don't like pets for my main. Just doesn't fit. So, even if I HAVE to get the Lore slot to proceed, the pets will never come out. I take specific powers I don't use just for slotting reasons... it's the same deal.
No one is forcing you to shove the pet square peg into the round theme whole here. You can skip it. You certainly won't need it.
If you want the pets, but don't like how they look, well... -
Just to add:
Last night, did my first APEX run with my Ice/Nrgy blaster. 45 minutes later, we had Master of Apex without even trying. This is by no means the most difficult Task Force. Did we die? Heck yes. But, being a blaster, I'm so used to death that I didn't even consider it unusual. Until the melee characters mentioned it.
So, exotic type unresistable damage cut them down and made them feel squishy and ineffective. Until we finished, got all the badges and then they were even more psyched than I was about it.
I suppose the experience as a whole is way outside of the comfort zone of some players who are used to being able to handle almost anything. You can't stay locked toe to toe with The Maiden and pound away. And melee is supposed to go toe to toe and pound away, so it's a force out of the usual role.
That being said, just after we finished, a group on Pinnacle finished an 'all melee' master apex run successfully in 35 minutes. And they had bragging rights for the next hour.
Point being, many many people of all archetypes enjoy this Task Force, and can complete it with almost any group. So, whether it's a gimmick or not, people like it. It works. -
Quote:^^^ This.1. How do you become a god without becoming a Cosmic Tank-Mage?
2. Is "I hate Lore pets!" going to be the new tantrum that derails all Incarnate discussions like "I must have a solo-only path!"
Even the tone of these "in the interest of discussion" threads is irksome.
"Would you like the Incarnate System if if didn't have those horrible Praetorian Pets, or do you think it's fine if everything is stupid?"
You can't even participate without agreeing or you get a 'thanks for playing' and a snarky smiley to shut you up. Gah... -
Voice of dissent:
Don't care. More powers = more better. The ones I don't like I won't take. The ones with a lore I don't like, I'll pretend come from somewhere else. -
The major problem with sequeling an MMO is... Your existing fanbase loses almost everything and gets put back to square one with everyone else, and they have to pay again for the new box or download.
You really have to wait until the game is dead before you launch its sequel.
I mean, it happens, but... -
So, you want a challenge that isn't so... challenging?
-
Any updates to this since we last saw it? Figured it's worth the rez, seeing as how it is relevant to this week's WST.
-
Incarnate Slots are endgame content. End game content happens to be Trials. If you don't run trials, you don't need Incarnate Slots. You can still do everything else. You are NOT going to solo Incarnate Trials.
Ergo, if the Trials are content you don't want to do, you won't miss the Trial rewards.
If you MUST HAVE trial rewards, you MUST DO trials.
Or, grind the 3200 shards.
Incarnate content was never supposed to be solo content. -
There is no 'more shards' or 'less shards'. There are only 'some shards' and 'none shards'. Be at peace.

Well, here's my $1.13 on the matter.
You plan the rest of your build around which Purples you need. You can have up to 5 different sets, but usually 2 to 3 will do it.
Buy sleep, confuse, hold, or stun first. Cheapest. I got a 5 set o Absolute Amazement for 300 mil total. Then, I wrangled a 5 set of Unbreakable for 500 mil.
So, that's what I paid total. 800 mil.
Ragnarok dropped for me along the way (so I slotted 5), as well as various other purples and respec recipies. I used the proceeds from these to build out everything else.
The inf isn't a big deal. It's a time game. ITFs, level 50 task forces, alignment missions, recipe farms, large groups, play every nite.
BUT, if you love your 50, you'll be doing that anyways.
No one goes from no IOs to full kit instantly. It's a journey of small steps. The good news, as you go along, you get better and get drops faster, make more inf and also, have more fun.
And BTW, purples are awesome. They aren't everything, but seriously... 2 to 3 sets make a big difference. -
The CoH mantra: Relax. Have fun. It's a living comic book.
-
Ha. I'd pay the inf just to mess with him.
-
*leaps to the defense of RotP*
50 blaster.
Never have a problem with it.
I've used it out of the box. I've frankenslotted it for heal and end mod to come back to full upon rez. I've purpled it out with AA for stun....
It's a great power and works as intended.
That said...
If everything is purple and huddled over you... yeah, you are going to bite it if you rez immediately -
Quote:That's the one. Thanks you much.
