I was never a big fan of hami raids; mothership raids seemed more fun, even after hami was tweaked. I loved the final battle of the LRSF though. I'd like to give incarnate trials a go if I can find companions (and time). Most of my 50s are on Virtue but I have 50s on Infinity, Freedom, and I think Victory also.
Again, I believe that the best bang for your gaming buck in what little time remains for this game lies in feeling as powerful as possible. The stories aren't all that great in my opinion in the lower levels. They are just the normal "Go here, do that, hmmm, need this, kill him, here's your reward" stuff. If you really want to read the stories, then set your mission difficulty on low (-1, x0) and blaze through them quickly just for the sights and critters. Or....take my advice below, which is what I was saying in the first place.

Go get your 50's IO'd and fully T4'd for Incarnate powers. Incarnate powers add all sorts of boosts and buffs to your toon. A crashless nuke, more powerful than a blasters? CHECK! A god-mode +DEF or +REGEN power? CHECK! A god-mode mezz shield? CHECK! Endless endurance or huge recharge buffs? CHECK CHECK! Extremely powerful and durable pets? CHECK! Crazy stupid cool looking pets that buff you? CHECK!

The grind to full Incarnate powers isn't that bad....can be done in about two weeks' worth of evenings of play for the basics (Alpha, Judgement, Lore, etc.). And once you ARE fully IO'd and Incarnated out, there isn't a single mission you can't play on max difficulty in the game. So THEN you run back out and do all the stories you want.

Would you rather just read the comics or PLAY the comics as the most powerful version of your toon that you could ever achieve? If you have limited time, make the most of it!

I have run literally over a thousand iTrials and mostly enjoyed it, and I would never tell anyone they should blow off the game's other content to race to 50 and grind out the same 10 trials over and over. Especially when, realistically, you're only going to see 5 or 6 of them run, especially now.

Yes, you can now achieve heights of character power previously unknown, even accounting for Inventions. (And if you're really into massive power, you can have both.) If that's what floats your boat, then iTrials are the way to achieve it.

However, if reading the story appeals to you, some very good content has been added to the game in First Ward, Night Ward, Dark Astoria, and various new contacts in existing zones which you may only be able to reach via Ouroboros, depending on character level. Also, the story content for characters created in Praetorea (levels 1-20) is, IMO, very high quality. (The actual challenge of playing there is a bit of a shock compared to, say, CoH - the critters are unusually nasty for their level, even after a rebalance pass, and large ambushes are unusually common.)
To each their own, but I play a superhero game to be, you know, a Super Hero. Why piddle around down in pre-travel powersville when the end-game powers trump all?

I've played the lower levels dozens of times. Now it's about getting it all and trying to outdo my last build.
  3. I want to like this thread, I really do.

But for some reason...its totally creeping me out.

A large number of people have gone on to try out other games right now (completely understandable, given the lousy news we had dumped on us), but, the thing is, that many of them have been here a long time and many of them were here for good reasons. So often, we may take a month or two long break, but we come running back for the goodness that is CoH.
Wishful thinking so here's a dose of reality in reply.

I don't know how many players, perhaps in the thousands/perhaps less, lost VIP status in this debacle. But since I had multiple accounts, I would often let one or more of them lapse into Premium land when I wasn't actively using those toons for awhile. Going back to play a fully Incarnated character sporting nothing but tweaked IO's that has suddenly been neutered of powers and capabilities is definitely a serious debbie downer. Its just plain out no fun to play what amounts to a nerfed toon. With restoration of VIP status not possible for all but the die-hard, I've just given up on those non-VIP'd accounts and I'm sure most others have just walked away (permanently) from theirs as well.

Also, school started for most of the US right about the time the announcement was made. I'd guess fully half of the player population doesn't even visit the website or forums. And that same population likely doesn't even bother to read the little splash screen on the Launcher app.

So just as likely server population went down until....oh....say Thanksgiving break or even semester break in December. In either case, these people will return, boot up what was once their favorite game and either find out with only a few days' playtime remaining that the game is about to end for them or they can't even log on at all because it has already ended.

The game will end for some large percentage of the population without them even knowing it had been dying for several months before the plug got pulled.

This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

All set? Good. Now, I'm not 100% sure that you'll be able to do all of this, since some of it might be gated behind VIP status (your name shows gold, which would normally mean yes, but I guess that's a bit buggy) or behind other content purchases. But, if you can, create a Praetorian character.

That's the big GOING ROGUE button at the beginning of the character creation process. If you can select that, then your new character will start in an alternate dimension where the line between good and evil is blurry, and all enemies are about four times as irritating. It's a completely different feel from either Paragon or the Isles, with the ability to make choices in arcs that send your story careening in different directions. (Ever wanted to murder your contact? Now you can.) It is also incredibly brutal and basically deserted, so expect to die. A lot. Still, it's worth it to see the ambitious, crazytown bananapants storylines.

The Praetoria Experience goes until level 20, after which your contacts will give you one last mission for a tearful reunion with all of the people you've saved, betrayed, or attempted to murder for the best of reasons. After that, you'll be sent to either Paragon or the Isles and everybody will pretend you've been there the whole time...

...unless you go to First Ward instead.

There are two more zones in Praetoria, both open to all VIP subscribers. First Ward has content in the 20-29 range, and Night Ward in the 30-39 range. They continue the pattern from the earlier Praetorian content of being big stories that break the superhero mold but also slam you with vicious ambushes and enemies designed to make you hate the game. (It's not that you can't solo it, but the difficulty really is noticeably higher. Enter it with the right mindset, and a few extra inspirations.) A Praetorian can stay, but you can also take any hero or villain there starting at level 20. Look for a Carnie to appear in your contact list. No, seriously.

Even if you don't have a character in that range, or want to create one, it's worth visiting First Ward and Night Ward just to see what the art team could do with better technology. You can gain access through the TUNNEL system, which are those swirly Easter-colored portals that appear next to some of the train stations and ferries. Watch out for the Seed of Hamidon!
I'd say screw all this, PL your toon to 50, run to Pocket D and grind Incarnate stuff until you have all the super-duper Incarnate mega-powers and a nifty +3 added to your shiny new level 50. With that much power, even some of the crazy weak theme builds can pretty much solo any AV arc in the game.

Unfortunately, with the game dying and VIP's now a rare thing thanks to getting caught between subscriptions, Incarnate trials are a bit hard to get started any longer.

But frankly, no reason to bother with the piddly lower level stuff. Everyone knows the end-game justifies the means you took to get there.

Except that Lancelot mission. That's justifies the whole First Ward zone entirely.
  6. Freedom has entire zones totally empty. During prime-time last night, Atlas had less than 10 players, plus a handful of mourners holding torches. I traversed every zone and /whoall revealed only Indy, Talos and PI had players, usually less than 3 and almost all running a TF "for the last time." Help and LFG channels were silent for 15 minutes at a time.

The thing is, the game is already dying. Even if saved, no amount of marketing is going to restore the population to what it once was. It will always be a shadow of its former glory and never recover.

  10. I quit playing at Issue 13 until almost Issue 19 mainly because issues 9-13 wreaked havoc on my enjoyment of the game. The huge changes like ED, constant and relentless regen nerfs, GDN and the introduction of IOs (and grinding/crafting with same) just made the game too different to be enjoyable to me for a time. I only got back in when the Incarnate system opened up endgame opps for me....which, unfortunately, ended up being yet more grinding/crafting.

The game has run its course IMO.

Doesn't a negotiation require having an interested and engaged seller? What we have is a bunch of pleading, begging and toothless threats. I'm not sure that counts as a "negotiation."
  12. If you rage-quit a cancelled game, does anyone even notice?

I was one of the first people to find out the exploit of getting under maps. As such, I coordinated the first team to ever 4 man the old Hamidon raid. Still pretty sure it hasn’t been copied.

To go along with the above, I pulled a wall of GMs from under the map to stop Stryke Force from stealing Hamidon that day, first time that was ever done. Yellow Dawn occurred, it was magical.

I found out the spot to get under the map of the Abyss before the zone even went live.

Utilizing said exploit, I ran the first team to ever complete MoSTF with a kheldian on team.

    Accordingly, MoLRSF soon followed.

Siren’s/RV underground would let me teleport into the hero hospital. Doing it before it was cool.

There was once an IO dupe that would copy your entire tray of IOs if you went drag and dropped your items onto another player then went into a custom mission with too many mob spawns, crashing the mission map. Load back in with those IOs again even though you had just traded them. Lots of my friends got banned for doing it. The journey to wealth had begun.

The moment PvPIOs released, I had a team of 8 farming kills in Bloody Bay, what became the standard for IO farming.

PvPIO farm nerf happens, I keep chugging along. I set up a bot and two accounts to both list and fight arena matches. To this day, I am certain my mastermind has more player kills than any other character in the game, not to mention the most PvP drops.

The day the global e-mail system came out, I instantly became the wealthiest person in the game. You see, you could both claim and return e-mails at the same time. Myself and three friends kept at it for over seven hours. I filled two bases with purples and PvPIOs. I ended up with close to 1000 (yes, thousand) Gladiator’s Javelin procs when they were going for 2 billion each. I was a trillionaire and every PvP team I was on since benefited from that fact.

    Now in no particular order:
--I did the first teleport chain at the first ski event. I copied this each year after that I participated, always being first. Always.
--I invented or improved on most AE farming missions that existed for quite some time. I even had some secret ones that were as good as the MM farm. My fastest 1-50 was 30 minutes.
--I took over and emptied several global channels in my stay here, including the Pingu channel and Cross-Server PvP.
--I TP foed people outside of warwalls in RV.
--I started the Grandville chain confuse wars. PvP against people that couldn't fight back.
There are definitely more, I am just forgetting them.

    And for the big one!
I have never been banned or suspended.
This post restores my faith that winning at PVP was always about cheating and never about skill. Thanks, I feel better having proof of this.

Now I log-in, run one mission and log-out. I want to play but it just depresses me that in a short time I wont ever get to play again. I am starting to come to grips with the fact that my gaming days are likely over since there isnt anything else out there I enjoy and that this game will not exist in a few months.
Not trying to be an alarmist or anything but you sound like you are dealing with very real withdrawal and/or depression that could be due to losing a fun past-time. It happens, keep an eye on things and seek help if it worsens.

I had a RL friend with a serious Second Life addiction. It took outright intervention to get her away from the keyboard and she had a lot of coping issues for months thereafter.

I made a toon called Jakarta and led a team of players in one-starring all the arcs of vocal AE forum posters for a week just because I was sick of all the anti-farmer self-righteous trash talk. With 15 of us having double accounts it was pretty easy to punish them in the one way I could....attack their egos and beloved rankings.

The ensuing forum drama was predictable: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=270079

I felt bad later and tried to lead a team to up-star the same arcs only to find several had been rage-deleted. Oops.
  17. Not that it matters any longer but I worked hard on this build so....here you go:

    -PermaDom
-Almost PermaHasten (off by .9 secs + Activation time)
    -Softcapped Range DEF, E/NE 36%
    -176% global recharge (w/Hasten)
    -37% S/L Resistance
-End Recovery looks really good at +197%

(Note: ResDam and Recharge IO's in Fire Shield and Hasten are both +5 EB'd accordingly)

  18. Playing this game any longer is an utter waste of time other than as an online chat community. And for that....far better venues.
  19. Tanking Hami as a flying regen scrapper with taunt while all the tankers sat around the rim complaining about how that should be THEIR job.

Oh and waaaaay back right before/after the purple patch was implemented (don't recall which side of that fix this happened) but I was a lowbie Kin defender. I got recruited to go to big, bad scary Brickstown to use Repel to tank Freak bosses while they whittled them down. Back then, if the level difference was great enough (like +10 I think) you could turn on Repel, run up to a baddie way over your head and just juggle him non-stop with impunity. I skyrocketed through the levels then too.

And then, of course, was using my spines scrapper to effectively herd entire zones at once. Not joking.

Much love to all my Blaster kin. We'll go out doing what we do best, standing in the face of ridiculous odds and blasting the hell out of them.
On the day the plug gets pulled, I'm going to be playing my non-IO'd, fully-solo'd-to-50 Fire/Nrg blaster. She got from 1-50 solo and only died 4 times.

Naysayers be damned, blasters always were fine.
  21. Farming in MA has effectively been killed now. Happy?
  22. Like many others here, I've been around since beta, although I was never as vocal on these forums as the Cartel crowd. But at one point prior to Freedom I maintained 3 monthly subs for myself and my family. While other homes may enjoy family pizza/movie night, we were always doing family/superhero night. It was always a fun past-time and gaming was part of our family entertainment budget.

So rather than repeating what's already been said countless times over already, I'll just give you a personal note of thanks instead.

To Posi and all the team, and to those who came before you, thank you for giving us a make-believe land where our real-world troubles and trials could disappear for awhile. You gave us a reason to log on repeatedly, month after month. You made the investment of time and money worth it and we got far more back out of it than we invested. You ensured that the juice was always worth the squeeze.

Thanks Posi. We will miss this world you've made for us and the campaigns you've created for our enjoyment. There may be other worlds that wait us, but you will always be a point of comparison.

    Take care!
  23. ...what would it be?

I think I'd want to roll back to the pre-ED days but leave everything else intact, including the GDN. Not sure what this would do to things given the mechanics of IO's but I really never felt quite so super-hero'ish as when I ran a Perma-MOG reginner.

Too many permutations to consider just one, really. But if you could have JUST one, what would it be and why?
