Yea... never buying another NC soft game again
Okay, had NCSoft not cancelled CoH... I would've give this game a shot.

To me, it looks effin cool.

But until CoH is uncancelled.... not a chance in Hell.

There's already a topic discussing this.

While that very much seems to be the obvious explanation, and no matter how negatively we all (myself included) feel towards it, we have to remember: until we receive a firm "yes" or "no" to the question of whether or not the IP can be acquired, we have to play nice.

1. Introducing a new game is not "replacing" COH. If it were another superhero-themed game, I might - *might* - be inclined to agree that's their idea.

2. We've known about this game for a little while now. It's not like it's being introduced as a replacement. It's just another title.

3. Agreed - for now, play nice.

This. Listen to reason guys. I know we're all upset at whats going on, but keep it under your hats for now. We want to put our best foot forward while everything is going on behind the scenes.

Yea...cause playing nice is gonna change the out come, cause NCsoft is gonna come back and say "well we where thinking about selling it but cause that Xenophage guy called our new game a piece of crap we aren't going to any more." >.>

If you rage-quit a cancelled game, does anyone even notice?

I don't demonize NCSoft; I severely criticize the business acumen of the person who decided that City of Heroes didn't fit with the rest of the games they offer -- and I have my own suspicions that, by being the antithesis of the Korean grindfests that NCSoft brings to the Western MMO market again and again, and succeeding (however modestly) while the grindfests die, it creates the impression that NCSoft doesn't understand the Western market, and killing CoH lets them blame failures on the _subject, not the _style_, of the MMOs -- "it's not another Korean-style grindfest people don't want, it's an MMO about [subject]; if we keep throwing grindfests at them, they'll learn to love them just like they do in Korea".

Well, as we have seen, NCSoft has opened up a much bigger can of "We don't know what we're doing" by pulling a bolt-from-the-blue cancellation of a game with a very dedicated playerbase, and they're not helping the appearance by being utterly silent about the situation. I don't need to demonize NCSoft; they're doing a perfectly adequate job of it themselves.

What I will do is ensure that, should no acceptable resolution be found, resolve not to contribute financially to NCSoft by buying their games or any ingame items. I have not yet determined what I am going to do with my Aion account -- continuing to play but refusing to patronize the ingame store makes me a drag on their resources, but I find that the swiftly-ramping grind of the game and forced grouping has made it less and less attractive to play, no matter how impressive the game world is graphically.

As i said in another thread, this. love martial arts, like tae-kim's art, but the situation is bad, same with gw2. great game, bad situation.

No interest. I can go play better games for a fantasy fix.

I'm completely the reverse: I hugely dislike traditional martial arts themes and that art style just repulses me on a purely stylistic level. Guess I'm lucky I don't suffer that kind of dilemma, but it's just one more reason for me to dislike NCsoft as a business - they offer no variety in their products, just minor alterations. Any non-Fantasy game they've had, they've cancelled at this point.

To be fair, I don't mind "anime" in general, just the weird crap Korean CGI "anime" games tend to come up with. Aion, Lineage, Tera, this one and so on just have this mish-mash over overly ornate gear that looks chaotic and unrefined to me. I'm a fan of simpler designs.

I grew up on dragonball z..it was cool to me then..but cant stand the artistry of it now...the anime look..the 2 sec slow mo shots between every strike...none of it appeals to me ...I like CoH..somebody better take over the IP or develop a CoH2..this has gone on long enough! ok..now I feel better..

Well, the blog article says that his preferred art style is broadly defined by disregarding anatomy for the sake of imagery, which would explain the bizarre proportions. And I'm not above anatomically-incorrect characters, but the designs themselves just turn me off. They all look alike to me.

The only class I'd really be interested in - Summoner - is both (a) touted (and therefore stigmatized) as the "beginner's" class, even though Pet classes are usually considered more difficult in most games (including CoH); and (b) restricted to the bunny-girl race, adding a dose of "easy mode mockery" on top of the "newbie class" stigmatization.

... if I'd had any interest at all, it'd be gone.

Pet classes are often pretty easy to level up, but a lot harder to play well/not screw up a group. Because you can often let the pet go on auto while leveling, but in groups you have to worry about pets running off into other enemy groups and such.
