Wait...we can do that? So, hypothetically, if there were some consumable someplace lower on the tree that I wanted, I could spend my token on that rather than proceeding with filling in my current tier?

I recently retired my former main, Crystal Smoke. She's gone back to her Dimension Walking ways, and resumed her exploration of the multiverse, but this time with the partner she met on Primal Earth. Much of her story while they were active was really about supporting his story, which was a conscious choice I made and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. Once his story was wrapped up, however, there was little to keep them tied to one place. The possibiity is open for them to return from time to time, though, and the other player and I still talk about what might be going on with them, especially since I have another character who is Primal Earth's analogue of Crystal (well actually Crystal is the analogue).

Thanks for this! Always good to have on hand, whether I need it or not.

I use it to create missions when I'm running a story for the people I regularly play with; I think it's fantastic for that.
Why I don't typically use it for everyday play:
1. The search/rating system. It's difficult and time-consuming to find anything I might be remotely interested in via the in-game interface. Easier, of course, if I get recommendations from the forums.
2. The wealth of new dev-created content we've been given over the last few issues. There are arcs that came out the issue before last I haven't played yet, and others I still enjoy playing repeatedly, because I like them so much.
3. The continuous XP nerfing. This is the big one for me. I got really turned off on AE by the string of changes that were made in an apparently utterly ineffectual attempt to slow the power levelers down. Doesn't seem like it had any effect but to destroy the ability to make any sort of meaningful progression for those just playing through stories. I mean, it was a slap in the face.* I'm not mad at the power-levelers about this; I couldn't care less if another player gets to 50 in a day. I'm mad at the way it was responded to.
Well, I was mad. I suppose I've gotten over it now, because I'm actually considering creating a new character who's "project" will be to level entirely in AE, just so I can reacquaint myself with some of my old favorite stories and see what new stories people have come up with.
* There, now you can all take a drink. Don't say I never gave you anything. -
Completely agree with Jibikao. Stay in there and fight. I still take Placate, but I didn't take it as soon as it became available on my baby stalker; I took that opportunity to grab her self heal instead, but taking another attack would also have been a good option (if I weren't skipping my tier3), to help build up focus. Have fun! I hope you come to love your stalker(s) as much as I love mine.

Quote:It's been applied inconsistently, though. The DA arcs don't do it, and the new low-level arcs that came out in i22 don't do it (at least, redside, but I assume blueside would be the same). The First Ward arcs, which I'm currently re-running, do. I'll be pretty excited if they actually start implementing this across the board.Actually they've been doing that since the SSAs started (Or at least since SSA4 when I noticed it). I kind of like it more, it certainly beats sitting there and waiting for the leader to finish while the rest of the team sits in silence.

Quote:I would not go so far as to say people are 'wrong' because this is very much a matter of perspective and personal preference, especially in regards to the aesthetics of the zones. But I am completely in accord with your perspective, as stated in the emphasized part. The revamped Atlas Park is pretty. Pretty, to me, does not necessarily mean interesting. I find the redside zones infinitely more visually compelling. I find the blueside zones, and most of the content that was written before the last couple of years, boring. Despite that, I do have blueside characters, typically for roleplay reasons, but I don't do a lot of the legacy content with them, except for TFs, and they don't get nearly as much play as my redsiders. The reasons people cite for hating redside are all wrong, though. Take a run through St. Martial or Aeon/Mercy City and tell me it's all trashy and bleak. Paragon City has entire zones dedicated to garbage and destruction. The Rogue Isles only have half of Mercy and the slums of Grandville.
The zones have so much more character to them and have so much more going on as opposed to Blueside and it's "Almost every zone is a generic city" landscape. And only about two or three contacts actually treat you like total dirt. The rest either just give you mercenary jobs or genuinely appreciate your help. Plus you really don't even fight that many Longbow soldiers.
While I would love to see some new SFs to fill those gaps, I have to agree with those posters who've stated that we're unlikely to get them. I just count myself lucky that we have gotten so much good content in recent months. Playing through the 20s on redside is some of the best fun the game has to offer me, and it starts even earlier now with the inclusion of the two cool new arcs from i22. Frankly, I count myself lucky they don't just phase it out or shut it down.
Quote:There is an inherent difficulty in writing for the Villains side, though. As a hero, it's easy to justify your character "taking orders" from so-and-so superhero league or science team and so on. But people are rogues or villains for a wide variety of reasons, and it's hard to satisfy every niche when it comes to mission dialogue and how your character is supposed to react. -
My three corruptors are Ice/Dark, Sonic/Pain and Fire/Rad, and I love them all, so I'd certainly recommend Ice and Sonic, but a lot depends on what you want. Neither Ice nor Sonic does the raw damage of Fire, but Ice has quite a bit of control with its slows and holds, and Sonic...well I just love Sonic. Love that it debuffs, love the control, with its stun and sleep (and kb, if you take it), and the damage is more than good enough for my character to contribute to teams (I don't solo that one).
I would say that my Ice and Sonic are both more support-oriented in the more 'traditional' sense (I'm grappling for the right wording) of bringing debuff, buff, healing, and control to the team (even when they are "the team"; my Ice/Dark solos beautifully). Fire/Rad, on the other hand, supports the team, or herself when solo, by dropping her debuffs and then KILLING THE ENEMY WITH FIRE! All three are wonderfully different experiences to play. So yeah...I think there's a point. :-) But as always, YMMV.
EDIT: You mentioned being interested in several secondaries. Have you tried Fire/Dark? I hear they're all that and a bag of chips and I'm inclined to believe it. -
I tend to agree, Sam. I had so much fun playing SSA7 that it just about made up for having endured SSA6. This is blueside, I'm talking about. I haven't done 6 & 7 redside yet; need to get the character I was running the story on to 40.
As for the others, I enjoyed them all to varying degrees. Thinking back on them, I would have to say that my reaction at the end of most of them was something like "Well the story was ...mostly...okay...but the game play more than made up for it. And what awesome maps!" I thought the whole concept of the contact for SSA2 blueside was absurd, but OTOH, I enjoy SSA2 redside so much that it's the only one I regularly repeat when I have a character in range, or a character I just want to play who needs something to do.
[And on a side note: Really. The maps. Can't say enough good things about the maps, not just in the SSAs but in all the new content from the past few issues. Kudos to you, map-makers.] -
Nothing beyond my monthly subscription fee, which I usually pay 6 months at a time.

Thank you very much for the guide.
I don't think I understand how levels work when converting. Let's say I do an in-set conversion of a level 35 Crushing Impact. Will that always result in another level 35 Crushing Impact or might the level vary?
Ukaserex, was that Oblit you got still level 35, like the Smashing Haymaker, or was it a 50?
Thanks! -
My stalkers are far and away the most relaxing characters for me to play. I have a Claws/Nin and a KM/EA and would recommend both equally (and I expect my baby Elec/Ice will be just as fun). If you're in the mood to smash everything on the map, go ahead. In the mood to pick your battles or just stealth to the objective? Can do that too. Don't bother to check what's around the next corner; they're (probably) not going to see you, and if they do, they're probably not going to hit you. If you do get into trouble, run like a bunny, hide, come back and finish the job.
I'm mostly talking about solo here, but now that I think about it holds true on teams too. You won't be expected to hold aggro, or to heal or buff or debuff (although brief AS fear effect is nice); just keep dealing that damage. -
First, apologies if this has been suggested previously. I've been playing the new DA content lately and have also recently done the new low-level redside arcs (Love them!). I can't imagine I'm the only one who's playing this content, not just solo, but as part of a duo or small team. We've found that it can be quite cumbersome for the team leader to keep the rest of the team up on what's going on, because the rest of the team can't actually engage in, or even read, the dialogue with NPCs that occurs at various points throughout the missions. So, a couple of suggestions:
1. Allow team members to view the dialogue options in a read-only mode, as in, you can progress through and see what the NPC is saying, but only the choices made by the team leader have any effect.
2. Alternatively, have what the NPC is saying copied to the [NPC] channel, so players could read it in their chat window. Or possibly, create a new channel for it so it could be distinguished from the chatter of patrols, ambushes, etc., and so players could choose not to display if that's their preference. -

Quote:I actually just rerolled a brute as DM/EA (from DM/DA). She's still a baby right now, but I have reason to believe I'll continue to love it as she goes up in level. You just haven't seen enough brutes yet. I've seen plenty of DM/EAs in game and on forum builds. It's a very solid pairing.
Seconded. Love my KM/EA stalker. -

Quote:I must have this!
* I Meant to do That: Super Speeders and Fliers who constantly run into objects due to a lack of reaction time on the part of their players will STILL run into those objects. Now, however, the Proc will have them stumble, tumble then right themselves, look around quickly to see if anyone noticed them move on whistling as though nothing ever happened. -

Quote:Despite my delight at this change, I have a degree of sympathy for your perspective regarding costume options for males. I play both male and female characters and I actually tend to roleplay my guys more; I would love to see them have more and better options. I was initially very excited about some of the Pocket D pack items for just this reason; unfortunately, they looked great in the pictures but, IMO, look terrible on the actual characters. I ended up being very glad that I had only cherry-picked a few of the pieces that could be used on men, and not bought the whole pack, as I probably won't be using them.I'm... unhappy with this. I know other people have brought up the "gender equality" card and already been beaten down for it because "everyone is happier this way."
I'm not. This right here basically means that females will get female-only parts, and unless there are "serious clipping issues," they'll also get all the male parts.
Having said that, there are (at least) two different aspects to the "gender equality card" as you call it. One, is parity in terms of quantity. There, I must agree, male characters get the short end of the stick. The other aspect though, is parity in terms of quality or style. At the risk of reigniting the previous debate, I believe there is a trend that has increased with the current art team, where men get to look bad*** and women get to look like a piece of ***. I find this trend distasteful. I recognize that some will argue the trend does not exist, but their arguments have yet to sway my perception. I am therefore thrilled that we will be getting more options for our female characters that buck that trend.
Quote:How about from now on, you just don't make any female-only costume options anymore and just make everything unisex? It seems that's the only possible way to get gender equality in this crowd. -
Wow. I may actually be spending point on the Gunslinger pack, something I had previously decided never to do. And can't wait to see how the baron coat looks! Thank you!

* Be polite and respectful.
* Be patient and give the benefit of the doubt, but not to the point of letting myself or others be abused.
* When teamed, do my best. I may not be uber and I may mess up, but I'll make an honest effort to contribute.
I think that mostly sums it up.
