  1. Are you talking about a lack of intelligence, or a lack of eductation?

Just to be clear, as one is very different from the other.
  2. Okay, so I'm planning a new character and writing project, but I find myself in need of a psychiatrist (for the character, not me!).

I could just create my own NPC, but I thought it might be quite nice to throw it open and see if anyone else has used a psychiatrist NPC for any of their characters. That way I'm using an established NPC with experience of treating superheroic individuals, and tying it in some small way back into our shared gameworld.

So, if you've used a shrink for your hero or villain, written about them, or just referenced them but never really used them, please let me know!
  3. Am I allowed to request more badges for future player meets?
  4. I always end up calling it Grappling Arrow instead of Entanging Arrow, but you know what I meant!
  5. I think this really does highlight what type of PvP are we talking about; Duels (one-on-one) or Team?

Team will be pretty much as it is supporting a team in PvE. You're trying to make sure that the debuffs are working on the enemy while your team are dealing the damage, but you have the added bonus of trying to avoid being targetted for mez. Having a Stunning Shot available to take out the most deadly enemy to you personally before laying down the slows can be a useful tactic, this at least means you having the breathing space to shoot!

One-on-one I find that I tend to move...alot! So get used to stacking up shots so that the animations play even while you're moving. Probably obvious, but still true.

Damage vs time is definately the order of the day when playing a motion game too, so forget about Ranged Shot and make sure that Aimed Shot and Blazing Arrow are damage and recharge heavy. Then once the debuffs and slows are down, just keep moving and spam the damage. Yes, it does take time, but then you're not a Blaster or a Scrapper, so get used to it!

The ticks from Disruption Arrow helps to prevent any interruptable powers from firing off (as Dante has found out!) so laying one of these down after a Glue Arrow is a big help. Grappling Arrow can be great for getting your flying and jumping opponents into a debuff zone, so remember Grappling Arrow and Stunning Arrow to get them on the ground and keep them there while you set up the kill zone.

This might be useful, or it might be biased to arena matches, but either way, take or leave what you like!
  6. Nice one GG!!

What next? Well, you're going to have to suffer the glares from other altitus suffers and roleplayers who are still struggling through their mid 40s, so I'd suggest just enjoying the feeling of superiority!
  7. Following the last weeks discovery of Rikti testing an unknown mutagen (henceforth refered to as "goop") on trapped humans, and the subsequent investigation undertaken by The Portent, The Militia continued trying to find out what exactly was going on...

    [u]Monday Evening[u]
Crimson Archer investigated a report of a labratory break-in, thinking it may be connected to the information found by The Portent, but arrived only to find soldiers from Arachnos forcing a man through a crudely made hole in the floor and into a tunnel. From the brief glimpse he got, Crimson Archer thought that the scientist may have been Dr. Herman Gregory, and rather than tackle the Arachnos forces alone, he put out a call to pull a Militia team together to rescue the scientist.

A team consisting of Wavekite, Rockheed, Holly Steel and Shadow Pariah quickly came together in Founder's Fall, but then found themselves in the middle of a Rikti attack! Whether this was a random occurance or pay-back for last weeks actions was unknown, but the heroes fought hard to repel the aliens. When the WarWalls were finally restored, the Militia team raced across town to try and head off the Arachnos forces, arriving with barely enough time to attempt the rescue mission.

The mission was fast and fairly brutal, but the scientist was safely rescued. Unfortunately it wasn't Dr. Herman Gregory, but another scientist called Michael Lewis who was attempting to track down Dr. Gregory's other labs. He informed the team that he'd heard that Dr. Gregory had been working on a weapon grade mutagen, but didn't know what its effects might be or where Dr. Gregory might be now.

Frustrated by the dead-end, The Militia decided to take it out on some random Circle of Thorns who were summoning near by. During the fight the Thorn mages were heard to exclaim about "protecting the stolen heroes", and The Militia interrogated several more groups before finding out that the Circle were holding a group of heroes, and preparing to perform some form of arcane ritual involving them.

In a race against time, and the heroes turned out to be Paragon Protectors! With both a trigger happy Crey extraction team and Circle of Thorn mages & demons to cope with, The Militia had a hard time disrupting the various rituals, but with assistance from Powerstone the task was finally completed and the Paragon Protectors released safely.

Unfortunately Shadow Pariah recieved what appeared to be serious injuries during the mission and had to be teleported to hospital, which added a slightly bitter taste to the evening's success.

Tired and troubled by losing their comrade, The Militia members retired to Pocket D.
  8. Amber Banshee and Crimson Archer lead a team comprised of Militia members, The Portent, Shadow Pariah, Luna Starbright and two heroes who were trying out for the group, Rockheed and Holly Steel. The team was investigating Rikti activity in Paragon City when the heroes came across the Rikti attempting to force terrified citizens to drink some liquid, which would later be technically qualified as "Goop".

After analysing the substance back at The Militia base, it was identified as human cellular waste, but with characteristic similar to a mutagen. A call was them recieved that the Rikti were once again attemtping to use the substance, and the team (now joined by Hyperion Watchmen liason officer, White Vampyr) raced to rescue more trapped citizens form the aliens before their experiment could be carried out.

Despite serveral injuries, including Crimson Archer missing his footing on a seven storey building, and White Vampyr falling from the sky following a psychic attack, the rescues were successful, and the team retired to the base to lick their wounds and continue analysing the collected substance.

Holly Steel and Rockheed were both accepted into the ranks of The Militia following their performance, and the night ended on a high note.

The only way to be sure would be to /petition yourselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I actually did this a while back with Crimson Archer. The waiting for a reply from the GMs was agonising, but thankfully it was favourable and I can now play in peace!
  10. Crimson_Archer_EU

    Another RP team!

Does this idea need to be an SG, or can it be an "agreement" of sorts between already group committed heroes?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
The legend of Britanic, when all hope is lost, when the world seems at the edge of peril, when there seems no way to succeed, then shall he return, bought back from the grave by very hopes and fears of the world crying out for a true hero in our time of need.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...Strokes chin and thinks, "Hmmmm...Cult of Britanic."
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Ahhh but the same happened to Green Arrow

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but Green Arrow actually DID die in that explosion! It was just a heart sick Hal Jordan as The Spectre who plucked him back from an earlier time and recreated his body. Know anyone that powerful in game who's looking out for Britanic?
  13. Where in KR, Ammon? I'll try and bring Jay along.

BTW, how is this news getting out? After all Jay is currently in Tennessee and I've no idea whether this story will be in the papers before the memorial or not?!
  14. ((This piece takes place after an evening where we tried to play through the "Stop Hro'Dtohz and save the world" mission from The Dark Watcher, and after Crimson Archer faceplanted so many times I knew I couldn't just ignore it! So, here's what can come of taking too many hits as a non-powered hero...))

    Infirmary, Vanguard Compound
    10:22 am Friday, 28th December 2007

The smell of disinfectant was strong in the Vanguard Infirmary, but it was just one of the many distractions which kept Jay awake as he lay on the gurney, flimsy screens shielding him from the rest of the open plan room. The muted chatter of nurses, the regular buzz of the medical teleporters and the cries of wounded heroes, back from the war and being treated by the infirmary staff before being sent out into the field again, all combined into a symphony which perfectly complimented the ongoing battle against the Rikti; or so Jay thought.

He stared at the ceiling, smiling to himself and listening to the sounds around him. The pain in his chest from his broken ribs and collapsed lung had long since been faded into a pressure he could cope with under the care of the doctors and their drugs. The air pocket in his chest had been drained allowing his lung to re-inflate, and he'd been assured that he would be released back into a civilian hospital today.

Jay chuckled to himself. A civilian hospital. That's what the Vanguard doctor had said, like this was a military facility. As far as Jay knew Vangaurd weren't the army; no, they were beyond that. Answerable to no one but themselves, or so it seemed, but wasn't that what was needed to deal with the Rikti? Extreme measures and the people willing to execute them. Maybe that was why Jay was considering the offer he'd been given by Levantera, to join Vanguard and use his skills as a hunter in the way he'd used them before he became a hero.

Hero. He shook his head, unsure of what they meant for him now anyway. Not for the first time in the past 24 hours, his mind went back to the raid which had put him in here in the first place. He'd been following Britanic, Amber Banshee and Gauisus Somnium, providing support where he could as they'd entered the sewers and found their way underneath the Rikti Mothership. Jay had never been inside a Rikti ship before, and he had found it... unsettling. People try and describe something as Alien, but until you have seen something which really is... well, the description means nothing.

Jay had already taken knocks earlier in that mission, and he'd known that at least two of his ribs had been cracked, but he made light of it, especially when trying to keep up with folks who have real power. He shook his head as he remembered the way the light bursts from his flash-bang arrows, reflected off the polished walls of the huge hall. He'd lept over the heads of the Rikti, trying to keep behind them while delivering his payload of arrows. Disruption heads, Glue Arrows, Acid clouds, everything he could do to try and slow them down or soften them up for the others to deal with. He doubted now that it had really made any difference, especially with what had happened later.

He'd known from the briefing that the Rikti were trying to open a new portal to their homeworld, and it was down to Britanic and the rest to destroy the mechanism behind it. The small team had even managed to destroy one of the energy pylons before the Nemesis troops had shown up. That was when Jay had gotten over confident, or frustrated at his own ineffectiveness, and he'd tried to take out one of the other pylons on his own. All he remembered was being struck from all sides by Rikti weapony and Rikti fists, which quickly gave way to the black numbness of unconciousness.

Jay cursed his own stupidity now, but still he smiled. He'd risen out of his stupour a few times before they'd all been teleported back to the Vanguard base, and what he'd seen was an inspiration; of sorts. Amber Banshee and Gauisus had both fallen to the sheer number of forces that filled the alien hall; Rikti and Nemesis soldiers all fighting together to prevent the portal being destroyed, part of yet another insane World domination plan by Lord Nemesis, and in the middle of it all stood Britanic. They swarmed around him like hornets, and he swatted them aside as such. His clothes were torn in the melee, but that miracle fabric of his repaired every split and rip, just as his mutant powers did the same for his own injuries. He looked like a God, glowing in that way he does, seeming to swim through the hoards of his enemies, swinging his fists like great hammers and his gaze never leaving the face of the Rikti General or the Nemesis powered armour which guarded the soon to be activated dimensional portal. In that moment, Britanic was the most handsome thing Jay had ever seen, even as the archer had lapsed once again into unconciousness.

Waking up in the infirmary and finding out that the mission had been a success had been a bitter sweet experience for Jay. Gauisus had been badly wounded, and Jay would have to wait to find out what had happened to him. Amber's own wounds had been largely superficial thankfully, and behind her had stood Britanic. Beautiful, powerful Britanic. Jay had wanted to say something to him, but the man had seemed so serious, his face dark lined and his eyes glowing less brightly than he'd ever seen them. Jay had thought they'd seemed almost hollow, but he'd faded again before the thought was fully formed, and when he awoke they had all gone.

Now was left the empty time to think. 24 hours to drain his chest and patch him up, they'd told him, and then he could be transfered. 24 hours without visitors, and with nothing to occupy Jay's time beyond his mistakes and the things he'd left undone since leaving The Militia. For once it wasn't maudlin thoughts, but more like a plan, or at least the start of one. Jay had watched a real hero at work; a real Super hero, and now he knew he couldn't fight in that league, not and remain human. He was a man trying to be more than a man could be, and for a while had come close, but yesterday he'd seen the ultimate prize and had been found wanting.

And still Jay smiled. He thought about his bow and arrows. His steadfast refusal to accept technological assistance, even lying about the condition of his own injuries so that he wouldn't have to recieve a cybernetic eye. He'd been offered technological improvements and gadgets in the past, and beyond his trick arrows he's always turned them down. "Ah gotta rely on myself", Jay had always said, and this was where it had gotten him. He'd seen the newspaper days before, with Pin Pointer on the front cover, and he'd seen that even she'd started using gadgets to raise her game and help her do the job she wanted to do. Jay shook his head. Was he just stubborn, as his Father had said before? Unwilling to bend to a new path, even if it was the better way? Jay inhaled deeply and felt the sharp pain in his chest, even through the drug induced dullness. He'd fought so hard to get where he was now, and it had not been enough. Not by a long chalk.

He reached out and picked the metal tray off the portable storage unit next to his guerney, knocking it loudly against the metal bars of the bed. A nurse poked her head around the screens, an annoyed look on her face.

    "Yes, Mr Reynolds?"

Jay smiled, that disarming redneck smile which had gotten him what he wanted in the past.

"Ah'm ready ta go now, miss, if y'all can fetch me a doctor", he said to the nurse, keeping his smile firmly in place despite the pain as he swung his legs off the guerney to sit on its edge. "There's things on th'outside ah gotta see to."
  15. *waves*
I have a character for this but given that I'm already in three other RPSGs I can't guarentee much attendance!
  16. ((Coile, I wish you and Dove all the best with all my heart. It's been a fun ride, mate and I wouldn't of missed the parts Jay & I were involved in for the World. Take care of yourself and live well. ))
  17. Cheers matey! I'll get that added to The Militia page tonight.

Now I just need to poke ParagonWiki with a sharp stick and see if they have one too!
  18. Is there any kind of banner link which folks can use in their own websites to help promote the UnionWiki? or can Pious put one together?

Having added a portal page to The Militia's site, I'd really like to have a banner link for the wiki, but didn't want to just create one for my own use exclusively!
  19. I gotta admit, I love this idea!! And can think of one person I might like to bring to the party...

Not sure if I can sustain many more IC characters though, unless this is going to be very loose, rather than structured, one-day-a-week type team-ups?
  20. ((Extract of an article from The Paragon Herald))

Archer and Plushie Toys Sell Out
With the festive season fast approaching and the cries of demanding children becoming ever louder in the ears of weary parents, it seems that one of this year's "must-have" toy is already becoming thin on the ground. Action figures based upon the Paragon City hero "The Crimson Archer", are doing battle with "Plushie-Love" dolls for the title of fastest selling toy. With these toys currently unavailable on the toy shop shelves and being sold on the internet auction site I-Bay for five times the shop bought value it seems the anguish for parents of demanding children is only set to continue.

The Crimson Archer sales campaign, currently being spearheaded by personal appearances across Rhode Island by the hero himself, otherwise known as lottery millionaire Jamie Reynolds, is itself set to increase as Christmas draws near. John Davies, Marketing Strategist for ActionBiz Toys says, "Expect to see more of Crimson Archer and the real life realisation of these action figure costumes in the run up to Christmas!".

With "Plushie-Love: The Movie" due to open this weekend, and Crimson Archer already sporting a new look bas...

((The rest of the article is obscured by an unfortunate coffee stain at this point!))
  21. Cheers!

Basically, it's a simple way to still be able to play the game as a hero. No need to fudge contacts, missions, etc, because that is what you are, but it also opens up the possibility of some pretty intense RP situations when the "chamber" comes together to decide the fate of a particular crimeboss, or villain. After all, once it's decided, there's no going back...

Providing this was played out with actions having consequences in the game world, and there being the possibility for being discovered if the characters involved aren't careful enough in who they talk to, or what they do, then I can see it offering some prime opportunities for those characters who do walk a fine line.
  22. I might suggest this sort of thing as an underground, "Illuminati" style of group. A "non-SG", if you like. Normal heroes, with standard licenses who believe that sometimes the ends do justify the means, but that they do it in secret.

Running normal missions, being regular heroes, maybe even adored by the public, with no connection to each other, but sometimes meeting together to debate whether a certain criminal has gone too far, or request assistance from the other clandestine vigilantes in dealing with a particular problem.

I think it's possible to do, but hard to do well. I wish you luck!
  23. The first question I thought of was, "Are these supposed to be heroes or villains?".

After all, in their own timeline they may have been seen as heroes (if that is what you are creating) and were doing the right thing (preventing muggings, stopping gang warfare, etc), but they would simply be doing it against a different political backdrop. so I guess it depends how political your characters are going to be as well.

I'm assuming these characters are still from "the present", just a present which is in a different timeline/dimension?
  24. My own view is that, while time travel is possible, it doesn't effect the future right away. You can go back and change Event A, but the ripple effect from that doesn't change the future right away. These ripples can be detected as they move forward through time and counter-acted.

Sure, go back to try and change stuff if you want, but it's more likely that you'll come back to find that nothing has changed yet, and, in fact, never will!
