A PvP Trick Archer: Possible?
I don't know what your experiences are but I can if you like TA against you in PvP so that you can have a basic idea of what your like to go against and then think about it.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
I don't PvP hugely but I do sometimes take on my friend in the arena who is TA/A and he puts up a good fight against my Sonic/En Blaster.
Glue Arrow is particularly nasty for squishies as it slows them to a crawl, depriving them of the mobility essential for squishy survival. Plus Disruption Arrow also prevents me from using Aid Self. Last week, when teamed with a Fire Blaster, he managed to kick my posterior a few times.
Not sure how one would fair against something with higher HP and shields but I certainly don't think it's impossible to PvP with one.

Well imo you can PvP with pretty much any AT some tend to find it easier then others - TA is no exception - although not the best of 'picks' in the PvP scene with Archery having high resistances - in team PvP i think you can add great help - Glue Arrow is one of the meanest ways of pinning down a group if you catch them right and focusing on pinning them down and slowing them by stacking glue and Immob arrow I think is a viable tactic..
A long grind as you effectivley slow them to detah and keep yourself alive with aid self as you skip about them firing off arrows!
Medcine/SS/Acrobatics I think would be staple for this to be a pvp toon as a squishy too - shout em if you want any pointers I can try giving them

I concur. :P
@Lukas
My TA/A does well in PvP, don't expect to defeat anyone solo. Its best used as team support. Find the enemy, 'capture' them in your glue/acid/debuffs/entangle. Then have your team mates bash them to tiny pieces.
I think this really does highlight what type of PvP are we talking about; Duels (one-on-one) or Team?
Team will be pretty much as it is supporting a team in PvE. You're trying to make sure that the debuffs are working on the enemy while your team are dealing the damage, but you have the added bonus of trying to avoid being targetted for mez. Having a Stunning Shot available to take out the most deadly enemy to you personally before laying down the slows can be a useful tactic, this at least means you having the breathing space to shoot!
One-on-one I find that I tend to move...alot! So get used to stacking up shots so that the animations play even while you're moving. Probably obvious, but still true.
Damage vs time is definately the order of the day when playing a motion game too, so forget about Ranged Shot and make sure that Aimed Shot and Blazing Arrow are damage and recharge heavy. Then once the debuffs and slows are down, just keep moving and spam the damage. Yes, it does take time, but then you're not a Blaster or a Scrapper, so get used to it!
The ticks from Disruption Arrow helps to prevent any interruptable powers from firing off (as Dante has found out!) so laying one of these down after a Glue Arrow is a big help. Grappling Arrow can be great for getting your flying and jumping opponents into a debuff zone, so remember Grappling Arrow and Stunning Arrow to get them on the ground and keep them there while you set up the kill zone.
This might be useful, or it might be biased to arena matches, but either way, take or leave what you like!

Grappling arrow sounds nice! Would love to have that on my TA toons. Can already see them wrestling with the net
I always end up calling it Grappling Arrow instead of Entanging Arrow, but you know what I meant!

TA should be nice disruption, for a larger team. Entangle and Glue arrow rocks. Ice Arrow has a long animation, I dunno if I'd want that for pvp.
as far as, Disruption Arrow...who the hell is gonna stand around inside it..sure you can slow someone down and throw Disruption Arrow on them for about a half second..big whoop :P. Maybe I'm missing something.

Trick arrow is pretty useless in pvp, especially now that slows work differently.
TA isn't particularly strong for 1v1 or solo zone pvp. You'll beat weaker players or bad builds but all things being equal, nearly any fotm build will beat a TA--they're fotm and TA isn't for a reason. However if you have teammates to follow on with damage after you ground and debuff a target in zone pvp, TA is highly effective. Entangling, glue, acid... rinse, repeat.
Seriously guys, February of 2008. Come on, now.

Actually, given the context in which this thread was started (and given when it was started): TA was a damn good disruption set in old-style PvP. Lots of movement slow, some recharge slow, long DoTs to keep Stalkers out of hide, and most importantly -jump/-fly. In "new" PvP, TA can still draw some hate for the -jump/-fly and the DoTs but other than that it's just not a good set anymore.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
After hitting 50 with my trick arrow/archery defender I've mostly been using her lately for the odd arena match in the supergroup or a bit of strolling through Siren's Call, but as is presumable I've been whalloped and splattered many times. So lately I've been wondering: Can a Trick Archer be a viable PvP character?
Now I know diddly poop about PvP myself, but I've got plenty of knowledge of trick archery. I can guess powers like Ice arrow would be a necessity, but that's about it.
What do people think, can a Trick Archer make it as a PvPer? And if so, what'd be needed to survive?
All thoughts, ideas, and builds are of course welcome.
