This makes me sad since a long time dream of mine is to see a big budget Transformers movie where Megatron transforms into a gun, some guy asks how that's possible, and Soundwave responds by picking up Megatron and shooting the guy in the face.

Quote:That's great, except that wasn't really what my post was about.I used my "it's not" statements in an attempt to prevent people from assuming that those issues were the basis for my objections to the "review".
The list you have that you say is NOT what you are objecting to (but decided to mention anyway) I only really referred to in the first line.
The rest of my rant was about how when reviewers bash something someone likes, they often tend to start loudly proclaiming how wrong that person's opinion is. Along with really clever stuff like putting the word review in quotes. -
Quote:Ah, so it's like the "no offense" rule.Me:
Before you go off on a rant and accuse me of whining, let's discuss your comprehension of the word "not", shall we?
Also, while I find Yahtzee entertaining, Spoony, at least in this case, is completely not so. But hey, YMMV.
"I find you ugly. No offense."
"WHY WOULD YOU CALL ME UGLY?"
"Dude, chill out. I SAID 'no offense'." -
Quote:Have you watched any of Spoony's reviews?I'm not talking about the fact that he tries to be "edgy" by constantly cursing. I'm not talking about the fact that he rambles on in a full-blown, unending, semi-incoherent ADD episode.
Calling him out for cursing and mad-ranting is like calling out Dr. Doom for speaking in the third person. It's his schtick.
I'm sorry for going off topic, but it always rubs me the wrong way when people criticize an internet reviewer in this way. It's not like he did something offensive or anything; he did what he always does. Only difference is that this time he did it to something you like.
This isn't Roger Ebert here. Spoony, Yahtzee, the Nostalgia Critic, the Angry Video Game Nerd.... all their stuff is at least half meant to entertain. Spoony goes off on rants cause it's funny. Yahtzee makes snide comments and dislikes everything because it's funny.
Oh no, they've ragged on something you enjoyed!
Nut up, laugh at how upset he gets over it, and have a little more confidence in your own opinion. Geez, if I whined everytime Yahtzee ripped apart a game I liked, I would've been banned for spamming by now.
I haven't seen Tron: Legacy yet either. I probably will eventually just cause it looks cool as all get out. But I WILL say that I was disappointed they went for the easy stuff. Everything from the matrix-fighting to the hoop-discs is what I always figured they'd do with a new Tron.
That doesn't make it bad or anything, just a little.... predictable. I guess I was just hoping for a "oh, that's kinda neat" twist or something. The evolution of programs was a cool idea, but it doesn't sound like much was done with it. And no, that isn't based on Spoony's review, but from many sources INCLUDING ones that LIKED the movie.
Still, looks like a slick ride, so I'll still check it out. Just with lower expectations; which will probably mean I'll enjoy it more. -

Quote:The new Buffy is a sitcom where Buffy is happy slaying vampires.... but, uh-oh... suddenly she has to share an apartment with one. Can these two opposites learn to get along, or will they SUCK all the fun out of the situation?Considering the Buffy reboot is the MOVIE only.... she can certainly do both.
(TV execs aren't desperate enough to try a series reboot... yet)
*cue up-beat theme song about how crazy life can be* -
As for stem cells....
****ING START RESEARCHING THAT ****!! I'm quickly seeing every awesome future cliche get further and further away from me. At LEAST give me a super-serum; if only to lessen the disappointment over the lack of personal jet-packs. -
Yeah, if Holmes didn't have a case he'd go straight for the cocaine.
-
Quote:I actually pointed that same fact out to someone when the first trailer came out. You just have to be in the right mind set going in. If you go in thinking of the books or the Jeremy Brett series, yer gonna be disappointed.Preferring one style of Holmes over another is fine, but what got me were all the complaints about Holmes knowing how to fight and carrying a gun. Some people acted as though it was sacrilege, despite the fact that Holmes in the novels is an amateur boxer and carried a revolver with him on a regular basis.
If you go in with the idea of "okay, this is Hollywood Holmes", then you can enjoy it for a fun action romp with some clever 'Holmes-isms' thrown in here and there. -
-
I enjoyed it for what it was. I'll always prefer the more cerebral Holmes; but as an "Action-Holmes" type movie, it was pretty good.
Of course, Jeremy Brett will always be the king. -

I don't feel bad FOR him; I feel bad ABOUT him.
As in, I don't enjoy most of his movies even though his style seems to be something I'd usually enjoy. (I did kinda like The Rock)
Like how people often criticize comics for stuff like repeat deaths, crazy aliens, clones and/or evil twins, "X-Men vs. Vampires"... etc.
I'm all for that type of out there stuff, and Bay seems to have that kinda style. So I feel bad that I can't enjoy the movies he does make. Transformers 2 alone made me feel like I was playing Halo online. Lots of fast action set to the tune of warring ******-bags. -
I feel bad about Michael Bay.
I'm a big advocate for over-the-top crazy types of action movies, and I feel like I would love Bay if he were given the right movie to make (and if someone kept a tight reign on him).
But for me, Transformers ain't it. Maybe he'll actually have learned a bit from the criticisms of the second movie and adjust accordingly, but I'm not expecting too much. His track record in that department isn't stellar. -

Quote:Saaaayy...Sure the Sun is questionable. Sure Lucas might not be involved with this.
But once again someone, somewhere will attempt to do it as the technology allows it to become easier and cheaper to do.
It's really only a matter of time at this point. *shrugs*
Doesn't Jeff Bridges look awful young sometimes in that new Tron movie? -
Quote:That's what I'd expect from the station that brought us Smallville. Probably the typical thing of the "goth girl longing to fit in". Predictable, played out, and wholly uninteresting. If this is gonna be a replacement for Smallville is it about Raven's life on Azarath?
If its based on Earth are they going to mention she's from Azarath? Or retcon her origins to Earth-only and make her the standard gloomy girl that uses sorcery to fight stuff?
It's possible they could surprise me and make it well, but I kinda doubt it. -
THIS guy!!
But yeah, Super-Irish Axford was in both, but the first serial was the origin story. I don't remember much about "Strikes Again". I've still got it, but I only watched it once. It's on the shelf with all my other movie serials.
((Interesting note: In the Captain Marvel serial, Captain Marvel totally chucks some dude off a roof. ))
