Green Hornet Trailer

Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet

Its an action/comedy staring Seth Rogan. After watching the trailer all I can think about is the scene in Funny People when Adam Sandler points out Seth was funnier when he was chubby.

That's the same trailer that was released several months ago isn't it? Can't say I'm particularly looking forward to this movie despite being a fan of the character.

I'll probably catch it on Netflix. I am a fan of Rogen and Michel Gondry is directing, but I am not terribly excited for it.

The best part of that trailer was when Seth Rogan shot himself in the face. Too bad it was a gas gun and not a flamethrower!

This movie looks like it's going to make 'Howard The Duck' look Shakespearean by comparison!

Why did they have to mess up a perfectly good concept!

Van Williams and Jackie Chan would make a better Hornet and Kato! C'mon!

Ordinarily, I'm not one to trash the latest film meant to appeal to geeks. In this case, though, I honestly wonder what was going through the producers'/director's/writers' heads that made them think this bizarre mish-mash of fairly weak ideas (a Green Hornet movie? Seth Rogen as a costumed hero?) would be a success. Seriously. I'd like to know.

My expectations were actually raised by this trailer.

Now it's entirely possible that it'll still suck, but if what they showed is as "goofy" as the humor will get, I can live with it. Besides, it's just nice to see a hero character who doesn't automatically LOOK like a "Hero Character". It's also nice to see a hero having some fun with his adventures as opposed to the usual super-gritty "living weapon".

I'm keeping my expectations low, but I see potential here. I'll definitely be checking this out.

While, I'll don't 100% agree with the "automatically LOOK like a Hero Character" part. I see nothing wrong with that. As I saw nothing wrong with the ones who did. Green Horney was never more than a guy in a suit and a mask anyways So it's not like I'm expecting tights.

But I do like that have it setup as someone who's actually excited by it. My only hope is if it's a success, they don't have him going all angsty in the second one, thinking he needs to hang up the mask

Also, Seth Rogen looks to have taken off a lot of the weight for the part.

The trailer makes it look like it's all yucks for bucks. It doesn't have the look that a Green Hornet movie should have.

I'll reserve judgment until the reviews (and film) are out, but I fully expect this movie to make Halle Berry's version of Catwoman smell like a greenhouse of roses!

I'll admit, in the dialog bits it IS mostly jokes. However, Hollywood has a habit of cramming as many jokes (and/or whatever they think will work as a sound-bite) into trailers as they can. The action in between the talking looked pretty bad***, with even Rogan seeming to have a few "pimp-shots" in there.

My hope is that what we see in the trailer is the majority of the "wacky humor". I could VERY easily be proven wrong, but the rest of the footage looked pretty promising. I liked the costumes and vehicles, and the action looked nice and visceral.

The rumors about this film on the movie and SF sites are uniformly horrifying. It's turned into a nightmare for the studio -- they wanted a superhero film but the director and cast gave them a campy comedy. Every source I've read says that Green Hornet will be one of the worst films of 2011.

If that rumor is true, I'm actually a bit hesitant now :/ From the clips, it doesn't look it, but if that rumor is true, I'm afraid I'll be going into a 60's Batman.

They hired Michel Gondry to direct. If the expected anything traditional, they only have themselves to blame.

It's troubling, but then there were similar rumors about 'The Incredible Hulk', and that turned out pretty good.

Well. I've seen most of the trailers since this long and absurd farce began.

From Kevin Smith's multiple script rejections and ousting off the project to Rogan's snarky and disrespectful comments that the Green Hornet was a "long forgotten character that few people knew or cared about" that heralded the project's "shift in direction" from a serious project to Action/Comedy. Then through the multiple cast and crew injuries and resignations over "creative differences," and Gondry's verbal tantrums about the immense amount of email and public flack he was getting from that aforementioned "non-existent" mutli-generational fan base. And then the multiple false starts and delays, studio postponements and re-shoots and final now the 3-D treatment.

Let's face it... Rogan and Gondry are finishing this project - one that even the Universe seems to be against (and that's saying a lot with Uwi Boil still slithering through the back lots of Hollywood) - out of spite, and this point even if they managed to produce "War and Peace" no one's going to take it seriously.

I will say this, that *IF* what is shown in the trailer is the *full* extent of the stupid jokey crap, I might accidentally *find* a copy of it at some point, just to see if I was right or wrong. But I can promise that not one thin dime of mine will go to support this film, not after the way Rogan and Gondry have behaved in regards to the franchise and it's not-so-inconsiderable fan base.

I urge any fans of the franchise to *not* financially support this film, even if just out of curiosity.

I find it hard to fault him on this.

Sure, WE know that the Green Hornet is still a beloved character to a good number of people, as well as an inspiration for many of the more current heroes. But to someone who isn't into the comic or pulp world, I can kinda understand how they might think the Green Hornet is a "forgotten hero".

Someone who doesn't read comics would be judging popularity by mainstream saturation. X-Men, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, and soon Thor and Captain America would all be judged as "popular" because they have a strong market presence.

Characters like Green Hornet, the Shadow, Doc Savage, the Spider, and even Zorro don't have as strong a mainstream presence and sometimes almost none at all. Therefore it's understandable that someone just going off of the mainstream market would think these characters are forgotten and/or not cared about terribly.

Speaking of Uwe Boll, he's working on a superhero film too. It's called 'Blubberella', and it's about the first fat female superhero. I am not joking.

If forced to make the choice between seeing Green Hornet or Blubberella, the Hornet will get my money. But there better be a gun pointed at my head.

I think that it is possible to make a decent Superhero Action/Comedy, but very difficult to get the tone and balance just right. The Increadibles did it as an animated film. The first half of Hancock was close, but it let us down a bit in the second half. "My Super-Ex Girlfriend" was kind of meh, but had one good scene -- the shark was pretty funny.

From what I have seen, I'm not sure that this will be a "decent" one -- but I'll wait for the reviews.

Sorry, but in a world which contains the Internet, Wikipedia, Google, YouTube, and sites containing sound files of old-time radio programs, someone like Seth Rogan -- who claims to be a professional actor (and certainly gets paid to be one) -- should have immersed himself in the backstory and history to get a better feel for the character.

OOPS! Did I just use the words 'Seth Rogan' and 'professional' in the same sentence?!

Getting a feel for the character is not the same as whether or not the character is a "forgotten hero."

The fact that the Internet has data on even the most background of characters in obscure fiction doesn't mean that those characters are well known. Doing research on a character to know who he is doesn't mean everyone knows who he is.

That beign said, Green Hornet shouldn't really be all that forgotten, considering there was a TV show centered on him in the 70s(?)

The 60s actually. It was an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the Batman TV series though Green Hornet tried to be more serious. The Green Hornet and Kato even appeared on Batman several times, both in a cameo and a full blown crossover.

I couldn't remember if it was the 60s or 70s. It was originally in Black and White, if I remember correctly (and, as already evident, I don't).

Even though it had two tie-ins with the campy Batman, it was actually done as a serious show. Don't forget back then both shows were on prime time, which started at 7:30 back then. Time Tunnel followed The Green Hornet on Friday nights.

Plus it introduced Bruce Lee to a large number of impressionable kiddies.
