  1. I was for this idea when it was brought up before, but I went back and looked at my own story-driven arcs and realized that this suggestion would destroy all of them.

So, just fix the exploits as they are found and DON'T start restricting what you can do with enemy groups.

It's unfortunate, but just about anything you do to attempt to curb farming will have an adverse affect on the people who are using AE the way the devs meant for it to be used.

I did a little farming during the Comm Officer craze, just to get a few of my seldom played alts some levels. Since then I have had no desire or inclination to farm in AE, because it bores the hell out of me. Restricting what I can do with custom enemy groups would cause me to lose all interest in AE altogether.

Making the enemy groups follow the same rules as normal enemy groups would remove a large part of what makes them "custom".

In short, if you remove the ability to make farms, you also remove the ability to be creative in AE, which would result in AE buildings as empty as the Arenas and Boomtown. I'm sure the devs don't want to see that happen.
  2. I'd rather see a tweaked version of Ice Melee rather than a direct port of the tanker set. (the armor is fine as-is)

    1) Frozen Fist, maybe tweaked with the Smite animation.
    2) Ice Sword, no change
    3) Frozen Smash, higher damage attack, similar to Cremate in Fire.
    4) Build Up
    5) Freezing Touch
    6) Ice Patch
    7) Ice Sword Circle
    8) Ice Slash
    9) Greater Ice Sword

That would make it more in line with being a scrapper set. Frozen Smash is in place of Frost, but Frost will probably be in the set if it ever comes to scrappers. I made sure to leave Freezing Touch and Ice Patch in the set, because they are staples of Ice Melee. Took Ice Slash from Icey Assault to add in (getting rid of the atrocity known as Frozen Aura) and moved Greater Ice Sword to the tier 9 position. Also added Ice Sword Circle from Icey Assault.

I have no changes I want to see to Ice Armor, it could be ported directly with scrapper numbers.

On the APP subject: Scrappers likely don't have many APPs because, when they were designed, the only elemental set scrappers got was Dark. Body Mastery and Weapon Mastery were probably deemed thematically appropriate to the rest of the sets. I'd like to see Fire Mastery make it's way over, but the devs might feel that Melt Armor is a little too good for an AT that can solo AVs already at the high end of things. I can't think of any other real reasone why it hasn't been done or at least mentioned yet. They've probably discussed it at some point.

Can't think of anything in Ice Mastery that could be potentially broken in the hands of a scrapper, so if scraps get Ice we may see that as well.

Thunderous Blast, however, is usable at range and has other serious components, like endurance drain to the targets and not a complete drain on the Blaster

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, TB DOES completely drain when you fire it...BUT...it has the chance to give you back endurance, which, if you hit enough targets, generally gives you about 10 endurance back.

So, functionally you are correct, but not for the reason you seem to have thought.

If you fire TB and only hit one target you stand a good chance of being completely drained. But...who fires their nuke at ONE target anyway?
  4. I could go along with this. make the bounty cost really high though, like 10k+, that way it would even out with drop rates.
  5. I agree! Everyone but ME is overpowered!

The only reasonable solution to this is to nerf everyone else into the ground and make me an unkillable death machine!

I won't be satisfied until I can rule every PvP zone with nothing but unslotted Brawl. It needs a 150 foot range too!

I like making completely ridiculous demands, it's fun

(I shouldn't have to say this, but no, I am not serious )
  6. ClawsandEffect

    Help me decide.

    [ QUOTE ]
Claws/Regen - sure it's cliched, but its a heck of a lot of fun, its very quick, with lots of damage, with a great balance of AoE and single target (my first 50 was claws/regen)

    [/ QUOTE ]

My first 50 was claws/regen as well, my namesake in fact.

At his current level of IOed-ness (I think I just made a new word ) he only has two states: completely unkillable, and laying on the floor. Regen is very binary from what I've experienced, you will either cruise through missions with ease, or you will drop every time you turn around, usually due to player error.

Of the 3 choices you presented, I would go with Fire or DM.
  7. Ask in the scrapper forums and wait for Werner, BillZBubba, Arcanaville, or a couple others to reply. They can give you the exact formula you need. Depending on how good you are at math it may not make much sense though.

    Shield/Ss

I concur with Chaos. Ask in the Tanker forum, you will get much better answers there.

    Stamina

Laevateinn's 4th example is what I use if I have a spare slot. I 4 slot Performance Shifter for the set bonuses. The fact that it is also the best amount of recovery is just a bonus.

    Claws/regen(Wolverine wannabes)

    [/ QUOTE ]

What makes you think all claws/regens are Wolverine wannabes? My claws/regen happens to be a cyborg who's regeneration comes from nanomachines that can repair flesh and metal with equal ease.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I've seen one done as a <something>/Dual Blades Tank.

My favorite is a friend's character, Emp/Dark heroine named Nurse Feratu.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's an awesome name, it earns the Claws and Effect seal of pun/wordplay approval!
  12. I don't know what primary you're using with Devices, but I have no problem stunning bosses with my Taser and Screech, or Taser and Beanbag, or Taser and Stunning Shot.

Like someone else said, my only complaint is cast times.
  13. I go to the Hollows at level 5 on every hero character I create, just to talk to him and get it out of the way.

If you talk to him as soon as you can, your Kings Row contact will never send you to see him and you can just get on with their missions.
  14. You are correct, AE is NOT ruining the game.

    The players are.
  15. Short Circuit + Power Sink = Drained enemies.

Short Circuit + Power Sink + Lightning Field = Drained enemies that die from you just standing near them, and they have no endurance to fight back with.

    Pretty much sums it up.
  16. I like Follow Up - Slash - Swipe - Focus - Swipe - Slash - Repeat.

There's a split second gap between the second Slash and the chain restarting.

I also run the chain of: Slash - Swipe - Focus - Swipe. Completely gapless at 42% global recharge, and I'm a regen so I can literally run that chain all day and not run out of endurance.

Neither are the greatest DPS, but I'm not willing to sacrifice the rest of my build to get the insane recharge necessary for a 200+ DPS chain. (I can't afford it either)
  17. Looked like Electric Armor and Dark Armor at the same time there for a second too.
  18. Losing your account to an internet thief would suck badly.

My wife knows my account information, and I know hers. No one else knows it. We shared the information so we could do transfers while the other was not home. We do not play on each other's accounts.

My wife's computer was compromised by System Security recently. In the interest of not getting information or identities stolen, as soon as she realized that it had happened she cleaned it. She did not input any passwords to anything while it was there.

(We got lucky, Symantec will sometimes catch System Security if you reboot right away, just an FYI, it's a good antispyware program from what I've seen)

But basically, if someone hacks your account information and changes passwords and such, you're pretty much screwed.

I wonder how many people gave RMTers their account information and gave them money for a PL, only to discover that they had paid them to steal their account instead?
  19. I agree with BayBlast here. Leave that character alone and learn more about the game. When you have more experience you can come back to it and fix it up.

Also, ask the people in the Blaster forums about how to build that particular character. The will be able to give you much more specific advice.

Play every AT for at least a few levels. Make sure you learn the various AT's strengths and weaknesses (at least the basics of them). The more you know about the ATs your teammates are playing, the better teammate you will be to them.
  20. Well written. Definitely easy to understand. Anyone who needs this information should be well on their way to learning what's going on by the time they are done reading it.

Now there's just the problem of getting the AE babies to actually read it. A few times I asked a PLed character if they had ever run the tutorial, because the question they were asking was covered in it.

My response? More often than not: "i got the game so i could play, not so i could read."

At that point I wish them luck and move on, leaving their question unanswered. When they ask why I didn't answer it I tell them: "If you don't want to read anything, then nothing I can tell you is going to help you."

With that said, if even a few players read your guide and become better players because of it then it was worth writing. I know most of the stuff in there, having looked like an idiot in broadcast or on teams learning it the hard way. I wish that a guide like this had existed when I was just starting out.

    Kudos on an excellent guide!

    This is sad.

I met someone last night that said they have played CoH before. They got the AE box and played for a month or so and said they got tired of the MA stuff and then quit.

A new player didnt even know that there was a BUNCH of normal content out there for them to enjoy! They didnt know anything but AE. And, they got burned out fast on it.

That is damn sad. After hearing that person say that, I now believe something needs to be done about new people that come into the game. They need to know about their contacts and the normal content that is there. Not just AE.

Before I didnt care, but after talking to them I believe something needs to change. I didn't think it was this bad.
Maybe we need to once in a while broadcast in atlas that there is normal content out there for them to enjoy.

After I explained to them what they missed, they got interested again and will be coming back.

P.S. Don't know how well I said what I wanted to. I am VERY tired.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I "could" understand newbies who don't know there's a life out of AE... but old players coming back ?

Come on ! These KNOW there's a game outside of AE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read it again dude. You misapprehended the statement at hand.

They bought the AE box recently, having never played before that. They played for about a month and got bored with the AE stuff. They apparently quit because they thought AE was the whole game.

The OP seems to have met them in real life somewhere and CoH came up in conversation. The OP explained about the stuff the person in question missed, as a result the person is interested in the game again, and will be coming back to see the stuff they missed.

Not trying to insult your intelligence or anything, I can see how the mistake could be made. I'm just pointing out that you read the OP wrong.
  22. I've won a few here and there. I've lost more than I can count, and I've been a runner up a few times.

I don't think I have ever gone out of my way to enter one, but if someone happened to be holding one while I was in Atlas I'd sometimes hang out for a few. Nothing like free money for just standing around for a few minutes.

I've seen a number of winners that didn't deserve to be seen in public with the costume they had on, let alone be given money for it.
  23. Sorry dude, but your idea would make it possible to get to level 50 without ever leaving a mission.

That would be a horrible thing to add. New players are already being misled into thinking that AE is the whole game.

I can just see the confusion now.

"Okay, we're finally done. Wow! I'm level 50 already!"

"Wait! That was it?! THAT was the whole game?!?"

No way do I ever want to see that scenario.
  24. It's Friday morning. Standard time for patches is Monday and Friday morning, with occasional ones during the rest of the week.

Server Status page sometimes takes a little while to catch up to the actual status of the servers.

    rad

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why does rad suddenly seem to be back on people's lists of what you absolutely super-duper must have to ever kill an AV ever ever? Did I miss something, or are people still stuck on the 'omg it's got the super best -regen!' thing, even though that's no longer true?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't look for Rads for the -regen at all. Hell, I look at Lingering Rad as almost skippable.

I look for rads for the consistent -to-hit, -def, -dam, and -res

Other sets can all do the same jobs equally well, but no other set can throw down debuffs and do other things simultaneously. While playing a rad you can just toggle up your debuff powers, and then spend the rest of the fight blasting, healing, rezzing, holding, whatevering.

Every other powerset that has equal or better debuffs has to interrupt whatever else they may be doing to use them.

THAT'S why I look for rads. They aren't necessarily the BEST debuffers, just the most consistent.
