Help me decide.

I've been pondering rolling another scrapper and I'm stuck on making it a /Regen. The only thing I can't figure out is the primary since I'm stuck between Fire/, Dark/ or Martial Arts/.

Fire/:
I know it doesn't add any survivability but it does have the dmg output so it may be a little riskier playing this combo.

Dark/:
It has the ST dmg plus tohit debuff and on top of it all another heal. DC does seem a little redundant but extra end is always nice. Soul Drain is an awsome power so that's a plus but I've already lvl'd a SD/DM tanker so I'm sorta reluctant to lvl another DM right now.

MA/:
I've never leveled one past lvl10 so I can't say but it does look interesting. It's got pretty good dmg plus mitigation.

So what are some other pro's/con's/suggestions that would help me make a decision?

Also don't suggest I roll all 3, I've got enough alts I need to lvl.

well skip the regen, its so like 2004, and its been nerfed 2004 times incidentally.

fire/sd - aoe damage machine

martial arts/willpower - chuck norris (costume requires a beard)

pistol/willpower - charles bronson (not in the game til going rogue, but 1 shots everything in the head)

just come up with a really good idea, honestly i think fire/sd sounds sick

I'd say to avoid fire, I've tried a pure offense primary with regen and it gets a bit frustrating. Healing is great but without some kinda way to soften, make the blows hit less, it just becomes tedious.

Dark: the to hit debuff will be great with regenertaion, also drain life can help out when the spike heals are recharging as well. one of the better choices.

MA: could work with it's mitigation, though I think it probably could be better.

I have a fire/regen and a MA/regen at 50.

The MA/Regen hit 50 back before IOs were introduced, but I remember her being great then. With IOs now, she'd be even better. MA isn't the best damage, but with all the KB and KD and stuns, well, you don't need to kill things as fast when they're dazed and/or on their backs.

The fire/regen is a beast and tears through mobs like tissue paper. But, like all* regens, she's got a glass jaw, and nothing in her primary to help her out there, unlike the mitigation provided by the secondary effects of MA. I can farm level 53 reviving lieuts with the fire/regen though, so it's not like she's weak.

Any of that help? I think they're both great characters, it's just a matter of what style you want to play. MA is a more drawn out fight, but you have all the control. FM is a quick fight, but it's just chaos with lots of orange (and red) numbers flying.

As for DM, no clue there. Never got a DM higher than level 10.

*all in this case refers to the "typical" regen, not the IO'd out the wazoo variety.

I'll vote for DM/REG out of your options, because you can then try out this build for me (totally concept, with the idea of being able to go MG -> SM -> SL -> SM -> Repeat, forever.

Actually still working on the build and am lvling it (very slowly) so workin on the IOs for it slowly as well...but here it is for an idea).

DM/regen. You'll have fun fun fun on a non stop slug fest. Even more so now that siphon life is a good attack instead of just a target heal.

I have experience with DM since I have a Dark/Fire brute and a SD/DM tank at 50 so I know DM is good.

I rolled the Fire/SD this morning and will get around to playing it soon. Now I think I have to roll several scrappers now...

I'll probably roll the DM/Regen but now the question is, what is a good secondary to go with Martial Arts?

I'd go with Martial Arts. Quick Recovery handles its relatively high end costs, and the stuns (Cobra Strike, Eagle's Claw and a chance in Storm Kick) can give you time to clicky yourself up. Plus the animations are just too much fun to look at =P

The cons, it's all smashing damage. Dark and Fire both have little resisted damage components. The -To-hit in Dark is excellent for Regen. Avoid Fire, it doesn't expound on Regen at all.

Thunder Kick has the chance to stun (and it's low). Storm Kick has to settle for oodles of damage per animation second and an extra crit chance.

Claws/Regen - sure it's cliched, but its a heck of a lot of fun, its very quick, with lots of damage, with a great balance of AoE and single target (my first 50 was claws/regen)

Regen is also well complimented by the Parry of Broadsword or Katana (and QR goes well with BS too)

Oh heck on second thoughts, they're all good, so just roll em all.

I'd say ma/regen. No weapon redraw from healin, dragon's tail is nice mitigation. eagle's claw will mez lts, and can stack with cobra strike, which i think is a worthles power anyway.

My first was ma/sr, next was claws/regen. I kinda wish I could switch primaries sometimes as I wouldn't have redraw on the claws/sr cept for poppin PB.

Martial Arts is just super fun, and it blooms pretty early, as does regen. At lvl 10 or 12 you can have 3 good attacks, fast healin and QR with recon as well.

My first 50 was claws/regen as well, my namesake in fact.

At his current level of IOed-ness (I think I just made a new word ) he only has two states: completely unkillable, and laying on the floor. Regen is very binary from what I've experienced, you will either cruise through missions with ease, or you will drop every time you turn around, usually due to player error.

Of the 3 choices you presented, I would go with Fire or DM.

Hmm... You said you didn't want a /SD right now. You plan on a DM/regen, maybe. Hmm... I'd say MA/FA. The stuns and knockdown effects will help keep you standing and keep them in burn a little longer. (Hmm... I think ill go make a AE mish with an AV with MA/fire manipulation set. Burn, blazing aura, and hot feet combined with all them kicks would piss a lot of people off *evil laugh*)

Instead of making a new thread I figured I'd just post a build idea for my scrapper here. Any thoughts on how to improve this toon? I'm having a hard time balancing def while squeezing out as much +rech as possible. Money is no object since I can already have everything except for the hecatombs and 2 lotg procs.
