What technical issues exactly? I'm curious (see below).
Quote:He lured them [Tuatha] to the sewers with promises of peanut butter (which they love, it says here) and enslaved them.
Quote:There is no hint given that you can enter the building so people who haven't seen this map before may be flummoxed a bit.
Quote:"Rabittual Criminal" (someone who worked with Fats whom you actually liked; seems like a gratuitous insert).
Quote:There's still nothing that tells you what it actually does, but smashing it ends the mission and triggers a big Longbow ambush.
Quote:This would have been a 2-star arc if not for the comedy, which was reasonably funny if overly poo-related.
Quote:You're never actually told what the pitcher does, so why Longbow show up when you break it in the last act isn't at all clear.
Quote:Finally, the portrayal of the Clockwork is just way off; they're too loquacious and out of character.
I believe I have it tagged "looking for feedback" right now, and that's because I only recently published it. I have a whole mess o' changes to make but I'm currently waiting out the Player Voting Awards before I do that as it only seems fair.
Thanks for playing and for taking the time to provide some real feedback! -
Quote:People don't avoid PvP because they don't know how to PvP; if they wanted to PvP, they could pretty nearly all learn it pretty quickly.
Actually this is one of the big reasons I don't PvP. I've learned how to play this game, but PvP is a totally different beast from what I've seen and I don't really have any interest to relearn the game for that. Also apparently I have no toons that fits the suggested power sets for ATs. :P
Otherwise, I think OP did a good job of trying to suggest and inform. -
I happen to have both of these type of toons right now. Neither is above say 20th yet, but they both felt strong right out of the gate, none of that "omg I sooo wish I was 25th already!" stuff (yet).

I dunno... after building up a full bar of debt (practically unheard of for any of my toons) it gets old. Part of my problem with those orange vampires was the freakin' holds they open up with and the fact I normally don't rely on Inspirations to save my bacon. Having gone and just about filled my tray with Break-Frees, it's not so bad, but still... it's a noticable "challenge" compared to toons over say 20.

Hey, I've found something to ask for!
I'd really like to have the map of the Mercy sewer works plant. If memory serves, it's in the Dr. Creed arc. It's a nice, sizable map, it unique and yet we only see it once (which I suppose might explain why it's unique, eh?). It would be perfect for my third arc (see sig) and I was disappointed to see it wasn't available.
This must change! -
Quote:OMG I wish I could have been there to see that!2nd: Day Job Hell - This one was really fun, even if it could use a little extra copy-editing, though I never hold that against any arc. And it helped that the character I picked to run it "Rubber Poo Monster" was an absolute perfect fit for it.
I do have plans for updating the arc as I only recently published it and have been getting some thoughtful feedback on it (and because apparently some of the grammar/spelling changes I've made didn't save, grrr), but I'm holding off on doing so until this awards thing is done (the real reason may have more to do with procrastination from having too much fun with the Halloween event, but you'll never get me to admit to that). -
I've got a couple of toons this has been giving me fits with, and I'm just talking ToTing. One's a 18th level scrapper (DB/Dark) and the other's an equal level Dom (Mind/Energy).
ToTing solo is quite the risk! All I need to see is an orange Vampire walk out the doors and I know the odds of me eating sidewalk instead of candy are at least fifty fifty if not an auto-certainty. I've been able to survive around a banner once (out of about five tries) with the Dom because the last time I tried a 50th level toon was hanging around too and healing.
The only thing I care about it the costume slot. :/ -
Quote:I've already grabbed Pistol Packin' Panda.Someone had better grab "Fistful of Bullets" as a name before it's snapped up . . . be right back!
Then I started thinking about that AoE/gun-fu silliness move and now I'm working on a Yosemite Sam idea... that seems like a very Yosemite Sam kind of attack. Even with Panda, I have a feeling I'm going to make a YEE-HAAAAWWWWW! emote and click it every time I use that attack. -
Gratz of course!, but I am saddened to see that so much of the set-up mirrors an arc I had in the planning stages - and I promise you I hadn't heard of this arc till just now. Can there really be room for another "sentient pandas from another dimension" arc?
Then again, if Doc likes pandas, that might be my ticket to a dev choice!Maybe I should send ShadowRush a PM and see if he'd mind a spin-off...

Quote:I've been meaning to give that arc a run-thru with my MM Rattus Rex, since his name's in Latin. Don't get me wrong, I don't know Latin, I just looked up "rat" in the dictionary and swapped in a "rex", but it would seem fitting somehow for him to run through it.My one entry was for enemy group - I nominated the Satyri from my Latin language arc. I suspect that the arc itself was probably unintelligible for any devs who took a look at it, as it will be for most players. I was rather proud of those enemies, though.
Quote:The sorts of things I write won't get awards. When was the last time a farce, a science fiction film, or an action picture won Best Picture at the Oscars? I don't expect to see that happen very often, and the sorts of fiction that get considered for things like the Booker Prize are even more constricted and dull. I accept that. -
You format this all so well I hate to snip it up, but...
I came away from it feeling that way too during my testing and it's been nagging me a little ever since. I've covered this before with MisterCaptainMan in his revue thread as well. I tried to keep the earlier missions from being ridiculously long for low level toons, as any mission can often be, because of the END loss a series of battles always seems to bring on. This is why I scattered so many glowies about in the first two missions, to fill up spawn points. Seeing as how you're now the second player to mention this, it's clear I need to go back and free up some of those spawn points to help give out more XP; we'll just have to get used to taking a knee more often as a low level toon anyways.
Quote:[*]Typos:
I noticed a few typos but i can't remember exactly where they were "Go do?" should have been "to do". Fats says this in the dialogue for the first or second mission. "Motived" not sure where, but it was supposed to be motivated. "come though here" could just be Fats' slang.
The only reason i mention typos is to make it easier for the author to run through and fix them.
Quote:[*]Clockwork Dialogue:
I felt that it was very awkward to hear the Clockwork baddies saying the things they were saying. Even though its a comedy arc, it causes a little believability issue. May or may not be important..
Quote:...so i think the title of mission two should be modified just slightly to keep it on this side of the line between thoughtful and crass.
Quote:Secondly, the choice of map for mission 3, Fats' home/office. That was a great choice, but it took me awhile to figure out that i could enter the building. A hint letting people know that they can go in the door couldn't hurt. Heck, maybe you could even use it to get another laugh.
Quote:One last suggestion: Theres a bit of narration just before mission 3 where you go to Fats' house... I dunno, anything like that.. Hope i'm not being too prescriptive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the high marks! I'm really glad to see this arc doing as well as it has so far as out of my three I think it's the one I feel the most invested in (not that the others were cheap knock-offs or throw-aways, mind you). Again, thanks for the great advice and finally, thanks for playing my arc, period.
My schedule to getting back to this arc for updating has been thrown off a little by the Halloween event (so many toons needing another costume slot, so little time) but now I have a pretty full list of things to get to - knowing these errors and problems are sitting out there while people play this arc and could be thinking man, this Clave Dark 5 guy sure makes some sloppy arcs drives the perfectionist in me nuts! -
Quote:I was looking for something that would probably require at least a duo, but I think I might not be so picky at this point (see below), as this the focus of this arc is more the concept/story rather than a MEUBERBOSSIKICKU! sort of button-clicking fest. So Now I'm thinking around "soloable, but not easily soloable". Then again, are the ultra-tough boss arcs popular with teams? Would people who want to pit themselves against a real force of nature like that be all that interested to read the text?First of all, how challenging do you want the arc to be? Do you want it to be doable by someone who solos on +0/x0, or do you want to give a level 50 IOd out the wazoo Scrapper a run for their money? You can't have both, unless you're relying on the Scrapper facing the AV as an AV and not an EB. This is without even bringing teams into the equation.
Quote:Extreme setting is a no, either way. I would suggest Standard, with additional powers hand-picked to suit the AV's concept and get the challenge level you want. Build Up, Aim, Rage, are a no (yes I am extremely biased and would like to see those powers removed from MA entirely) and certain other powers can be problematic; for example, Rise to the Challenge can make an AV that is easy for a /Rad Corruptor very difficult for a Thugs Mastermind. Mezzes can be shrugged off by any melee character but will annihilate squishies. Powersets like Energy Melee are among the least offenders; all they do is hit hard, which is easily mitigated through melee AT secondaries, inspiration use, and kiting.
Quote:Minions set to Hard: That depends on the powersets. Some powersets have powers like Aim, Build Up, Power Sink, mezzes, etc when set to Hard. Avoid those if you must have full xp. If the custom minions aren't going to see much use in the arc, I personally think getting full xp for them is a non-issue, and Standard or Standard+ is fine.
Quote:Allies. I don't find them all that helpful. They don't taunt, which is the big thing, so you can't use them to tank for a squishy. Many melee characters function better with the enemies grouped up, with powers like Invincibility, Against All Odds, and Dark Regeneration, and allies are terrible for causing scatter. Especially if they have knockback powers. An ally with a buffing/debuffing/healing set is probably the most useful, if you can get them to use it.
Quote:Finally, it would probably help if we knew why you were trying to make an "AV arc." Is it a "stop the supervillain's evil plan and beat him up" story? If so, the villain's concept should be your first consideration, and everything else is secondary. People who can't handle an AV will get a big orange warning before they start your arc.
So at this point I was thinking to myself "yeah, maybe he doesn't have to be all that uber because my arc would be more about the story than the fight-fest", so you've already got me thinking in a more focused manner here. Still, I'm not adverse to trying to create an arc both fun to read and challenging-fun to fight. -
Quote:I wasn't planning to make the ally an EB-level, sorry I wasn't more clear on that, but it does bring up the question about what level they should be set at. Thanks for the advice. If the story demands they be rescued or linked up with, see about making them boss-level helpers instead of EBs. Note that for some people, the "boss" allies will downgrade to LTs... who'll get squashed by a EB. You can ask people to keep "Bosses on", informing them that they'll have NPC help to rectify this.

Quote:He's not the one who should be apologizing, but anyway that made me laugh. I think I've heard him apologize for it more than once, too!

I was recently possessed by the crazy idea to make a "take on an AV" high level arc, but I know little about such things. I haven't even been on many AV runs in PvE and none in MA (due to fears of insta-squish) so this is new territory for me. But I really want to do this arc (with a minimum of n00b-ery/failure) because the story idea has me crazy excited to give it a whirl.
I already have a few questions about such "challenging" arcs and I'm sure there's areas to consider that I haven't even thought of yet so feel free to pitch in anything you think might help me plan this out so it's not crazyCRAZY hard and yet not a yawner for you old hands at AV fightin'.
1) What about the hard vs. extreme settings for the AV? I'm guessing this is dependent upon which power sets the AV has, right? And follows the usual semi-rules about how certain power sets like Energy Melee make for ridiculous opponents?
2) The AV is going to be part of a custom group; if I set the lower teir foes for "hard" to give the player the full XP, is this going to be nuts for anyone but purpled-out scrappers or something?
3) What about allies? Not "SB meh plz!" buff-giving allies but co-fighters - are they usually welcome or ignored? My story might have room for one is why I ask, but they can just as easily be left out.
4) Perhaps I am just over-thinking this and should just dive right in and there's not so much to worry about?
Thanks for your time! -

Quote:I'm discovering this to be true with a Mind/NRG Dom I made a couple of weeks ago. When I do get around to playing him (darn this altitis!), I'm finding him a real breeze to play and level up. The newly added damage buff is pretty cool.Doms were pretty low on population for a while there due to their hardcore nature and lack of meaningful reward without a huge investment. Since the buff they've been becoming more popular. When I build teams, my common practice now is to have 2 Doms. I remember before the buff when there wouldn't even BE two Doms in my range online.
They're gaining popularity slowly now. And for good reason. Doms are my new favorite AT. They're redside Blappers with control. I have a Plant/EArth Dom I'm just in love with. If you want a fun experience on a somewhat under-appreciated (still) AT, roll a Dom. A powerful mezzer/flashy power user like my Plant/Earth will catch attention and garner praise from teammates. I've gotten lots of feedback on my Dom since making her. People are quite impressed at what a Dom is capable of these days and I usually get someone in every team I join thanking me, asking me about Doms, or deciding to make one.
To answer the question posed above, I would have to say Doms and Stalkers as well. I do see the Stalkers around, but not in much numbers. Doms though still seem pretty thin. -
I'd kind of doubt the devs had any sort of list-able criteria they could tell us about. I'm guessing they just sat down and fired up the arcs and then wrote down how they felt about it afterward, noting the obvious errors (grammar, etc) that might disqualify them. Other than that, we were all prey to their very personal and subject feelings at the time they played them. If RednameX had an upset stomach the day he played your arc, then it might not go so well for you.
You know, the way it always goes for arc ratings. -
You might find something of interest in one of my three arcs, listed in my sig.
If it helps, people who've played them all have told me that BUNNYGIRLS or Day Job Hell are the best. Or you could be a contrarian and go for my "weak spot" and look at Premium Quality instead. -
More kind words again, thank you! I did have a lot of fun plotting this arc and I think it comes through the best of the three in many ways, yes. And now for the inevitable follow-ups...
Quote:I'm betting you did see it and forgot, because your offered explanation is pretty close. I put it in their bios to save some space in the mission send-off, sort of an after-the-fact bit of briefing from Fats. I'll make a note to revisit this and see if I can't make it fit in the real briefing (and if I can think up something else for the bios other than "Did that pile of guano just move?!").Cons:It's a very minor nit, but the 'perfectionist' in me wanted some explanation as to why snake guano animates into guano monsters (apologies: that may have been in the arc and just forgotten, but I'll mention it *just in case*) - at least beyond something that amounts to 'that's just what snake guano does'; I dunno - maybe a CoT artifact that is known to cause inanimate stuff to animate or something. To be perfectly fair, though, the obvious undercurrent of humor in the arc does, IMO, make the player more willing to forgive very, very minor missing details, so it isn't a big issue (and, again, there may have been an explanation and in the last few weeks I just forgot what it was).
Quote:Second - and just a little more important - it did bother me a little when the Tuatha Chief explained what the Urn did, but that didn't actually come with any clue that actually told me (the player) what the Urn did. I'm not a big fan of feeling like my character knows something that I don't, especially when an integral part of the plot involves my character acting on that knowledge.
But just telling the players "go in and follow your nav box" would have too blind an alley to send them down, so I unfortunately end up giving away too much in the mission send-off for that last mission, which sort of leaves the urn hung out to dry in comparison to the other objectives. I'm looking to revisit the arc and try some rewriting to fix this so that more of the final mission tasks give an ah-ha pay-off; obviously some balancing to achieve this effect is needed.
Does that make sense? I hope so. :P I don't suppose fixing that would help with you not liking your toon "knowing something you don't" though.
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback again and thanks for giving it a whirl. -
Quote:That "rare ghost" thing last year was just a bug, not a WAI effect. The devs only found out about it when we did (when the event went live) and announced that they were probably not going to be able to fix it in time for the rest of the event last year (and they didn't manage to).Trick-or-Treating has been pimped a ton since last year, especially as a rare monster spawns goes. Last year even on a team you needed often several evenings to get 20 ghosts to coem ouf these doors, let alone GET them as the loved to run off back then. And instead had several thousand zombies and pumpkins. This time the formerly rare stuff and bosses spawned like crazy, and on a team of 4 everyone had all their defeat badges in half an hour or so. I also feel you dont have to wait so long anymore before you can click another door.

Quote:Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.If you go to the link that you quoted, you'll see that Giant Monsters and Deadly Apocalypse are two different events
I'm still going to give this thing a pass though - meaning not go out of my way for it, my play time is too limited. Since the event's been live I've only seen it go down a total of three times and the map bugs I've been getting haven't been helping me feel excited about it, although I don't fault it for those, really. The funniest part of this I've seen: when the big bad turned up he apparently died awfully quickly (certainly before I knew what was going on or where) and someone broadcast "You griefing #&%@*s, stop killing him so quickly!" (no idea how tongue in cheek that was...)
I know it's not rocket surgery, but all the hoops to jump through for it (find an event taking place, rush to the zone, get a team going, direct them how to fight the banners [so is it spread out or not?], then rush to where the guy materializes in time to get the badge before he gets offed since it's locational) don't make it sound like fun.
I'm not crying DOOOOM or anything - please, enjoy yourselves! - just saying it's not what I'm after.
