You play City of Heroes because we are who we are, much in the same reason you would play Guild Wars, L2 or Aion or, in the future, Wildstar and Guild Wars 2: For their own unique experiences.
What about cross-game promotions ? I recall some other company having a deal where buying one of its games would also grant themed appearance stuff in another. It would be like "buy GW2 and get Sylvari themed costume pieces in CoH".

And I assume Lineage 2 will get some kind of store currency "Linear points" when it goes F2P. Are there any plans to unify the store currencies among different NCSoft games ?

Are custom weapons (and shields) considered costume pieces ? They are under costume in the tailor screen.

    This shield model:

Has an animated texture where the glowing lines brighten and fade. The same tech could also be used for custom weapons at least. And probably "normal" costume pieces.

    Many possibilities with that.

After a decade or two of peace, the Darkness would be viewed as a one-time run of bad luck, like a natural disaster, and there would be no impediment to living there with it gone. Consider that in our present state of affairs in DA, even once the Darkness is dispelled again, very few folks will likely ever venture back to a place that went dark, came out, then went dark again and featured a festive massacre of the inhabitants. I know I wouldn't!

If the zone had gone dark several times in the history of the city, my take is that hardly anyone would have been living there at the time of the Rikti invasion.

The only possibility is if Astoria was completely inhabited in 2002 by graduates of Buffy's high school. (Why on God's Green Earth anyone other than Buffy would ever return to a school that had regular vampire sightings and attacks is beyond me. ) So if the zone is populated solely with Buffy Alumni, then I guess multiple darknesses are possible. Otherwise, it is just too contrary to human nature for me.
Only if they have a choice.
It could also be that the power of Mot is so vast that even in his sleep (dreams?) he can bring worshipers/victims to settle in His shadow. Without them even knowing it.
As shown by the badges, some parts of Astoria were always somewhat haunted. I could well imagine people there always being a little more grim, their health a little weaker. But they just cannot leave.
  5. Seeing the diversity of opinions, you would have been better off asking what kind of villain people would not want to play as.

It is more of a theme song, but I could see him listening to this kind of music as well.
  8. VFX suggestions, in no particular order:

    - " and Wings", "Wings" versions for auras. Make bigger/brighter version that costume team will name <element> wings and use as an additional wings model, profiting from your hard work.
    - " and Wings" versions for toggle power effects
    - " and Tail", "Tail" versions for auras. Small fire at the tip being an obvious example, but many other possibilities
    - " and Tail" versions for toggle power effects
    - ability to customize (at least recolor) the particle effects in weapon based powers.
    - more costume pieces and weapons that use VFX. Work with modeling team. BAB could (and did) make great elemental shields because he worked with both models and FX. Many good suggestions along these lines in this thread already. To add some:
    -- gems, other sparkly bits
-- vents, glowy bits with attached distortion effect
-- monstrous visages with puffs of fiery (icy) breath
    - "continuous beams" versions for energy blast, radiation blast (can steal stuff from praetorian clockwork)
    - more form hugging versions for "bubble" (force field, sonic, others?) powers
    - additional texture choices for "bubble" powers: honeycomb, circuitry, mystic symbols and more
    - option to enable ultra mode "water" shader effect on ice shields
    - redo the particle effect on jet boots so that it can be color tinted
    - might be more tech than VFX: option that makes power FX illuminate surrounding area
    - more/better ambient atmospheric effects (fog, "rays of light", etc) everywhere
    - eye glow auras for animal pack heads

    People keep repeating this.

First: Maelstrom. Still alive, yes ?

Second: Just because he wants to, does not mean he can. The IDF are powerful, but they are few, with only a single major city to draw their equipment and manpower from.

In fact, one potential strategy would be to let Cole's army take Paragon while all the metahumans go undercover/underground.
Either the IDF will disperse their forces to hold the place and suffer death by a thousand papercuts.
Or the army will move on to its next conquest and paramilitary forces will be brought in and/or established to keep order. Praetorian PD, the people who could not suppress Resistance or Ghouls, against every hero and villain group in Paragon. THAT will end well. For Primal Earth.

In the current trials, a "win" is awarded when either one of the facilities is successfully shut down, but not destroyed. This allows for a caveat: the content needs to be repeatable, so it is easy to say that the Praetorians rebuilt the place between the now and the last time you attacked (even though sometimes that is a matter of seconds :P ) It would feel very unrealistic if we destroyed all of the reactors on Keyes Island, then started the trial over again 1 minute later and find them standing there again.

Now, having gotten all the logical and reasonable stuff off my chest... I LOVE the idea of a more villainous/sinister (but optional) path to complete these trials. I whole-heartedly agree with that.
You're probably right about the game mechanics. So: have Neuron run in at the last second, after incarnates have left for safety, and defuse it. He is that fast. Drop hints that Neuron intentionally stayed out of the fight just so he could show up Anti Matter. Again!
The intent remains. And one of these days...

Regarding the CoV zones. In Neutropolis, as the player moves towards Keyes island, the sky grows dark/smoggy. The devs should re-use this tech to make select "nice" spots on Rogue isles have clear blue skies. And put/move some contacts there. Right now there are no contacts in Villa Montrose or Villa Requin, as I recall. Would be a step in the right direction, yes?

A 60:40 split as per kotaku article/infographic. While certainly not equal, it is close enough to make intentional content mismatches foolish. And the content in updates has been pretty close to equal. One arc per side, a TF and an SF, some co-op. The problem, for me, is that the co-op content is "heroism, but villains can help". I understand that "heroic" co-op content is far easier to write than "villainous", but they should still try.

You know what would be fun? Keyes Island trial where we get to blow up those reactors. Not shut down safely but make them blow. Because it will ruin Neutropolis and kill thousands. It is time that Praetorians learned the power and the will of Primal Earth. And as the center of research, technology and military in Praetoria, Neutropolis is a target worth hitting without restraint.

The heroes can shed some tears at "regrettable collateral damage", if it makes them feel better.

Vanguard was always presented as doing whatever it takes to secure earth. It is past time to start writing them accordingly.

What I found funny about that. If one visits the area that mission takes place in, in the open world, most spawns there are Longbow and Crey. Arachnos, of course, considers the place theirs. But I do not think they lost much in that particular invasion.
  12. I too had problems. With the new (as in new geometry) big rooms in warehouses and praetorian labs in general. Then I upgraded my system and have not had such problems. At least to the point that I have not noticed them.

I suspect that the problem is high(er) resolution textures. They take up a lot of (video) memory and if swapping starts = doom.
Try to reduce "world texture quality" ?
If there are no low(er) rez versions of these textures then devs really should create them.

Am I missing something or is the hit effect from Interface proc not customizable/colorable ?

This is the endgame the devs made, because people let them. Expect more of the same.

The Tanker you worked hard making nigh-unkillable, to never have to run from anything, is now slaughtered by cat girls and runs from blue bubble patches. Soon, they'll also be slaughtered by guard towers and run from mass-produced household cleaning appliances.

This is your crowning moment of awesome: being a scratching post for a lazy cat girl or getting stuck down by a Roomba while beating up abused prisoners/mental patients.

It's like my comic book dreams come true...?

    .
It might be just me but I would consider "An angry catgirl is one of the hardest hitting enemies in the game" to be a selling point.
  16. I agree with this suggestion.

Regarding performance - I would not expect a significant hit. Capes use up performance because they require on the fly physics calculations.
3D models with pre-set animations, like tails, should not be any more graphically intensive than the animated "breath" cycle for torso. And we already have multiple sliders for rescaling chests.

The main problem would be making the models scalable (a general scalar should be simple, a distorting one ("width but not length" for example) would be complex) and adding UI elements for adjusting these scales. There may also be problems with finding room in the costume data structure for this new data - looking at the data structure in .costume files could provide some hints on implementation.

Regarding clipping. The main items tail would/do clip with are "cape objects" and wings - in both cases there is already plenty of clipping so its a sort of "nothing to lose" scenario.

And, while not requested in original post, if the developers are going to implement this then I ask that they look at scale sliders for wings as well.
  17. The idea of making all Lore pets Praetorian mobs - I would describe it as "terrible". Which is a new word made up by combining "terrible" and "horrible". But this was just a sneak peak so there is still time to change this. And with much/most feedback asking for more generic/custom Lore pets, I have hope.

Also, yes to making new/incarnate powers customizable. At some future point power customization should cover all powers anyway. Better to add in at start than squeeze in later - that's what we learned from the main powerset customization, yes?

No, no. Too simple and elegant. Aha! "Bashful Kitten". Mace wielding catgirl (catboy?).
  19. Stuff, in no particular order.

We were promised player usable IDF costume pieces. Do not have the link on hand, sorry. Then we were told "not in I19 but Soon". The I20 overview does not have them either. Can we have an update on this? If the devs have abandoned this, say so already.

New/proliferated powersets would also be nice. These are very "efficient" content for the players who are interested in them. "Trying" a new/proliferated powerset means "leveling new character to 32/38/50" for many - that takes a while, especially solo.

I think it is a valid approach to play an MMO as a single player game with regular updates, chat and showing off. It makes some content unavailable, but it is not the strangest self-limitation people have (Steelclaws tournament spring to mind). Not sure how to put this... one does not have to play every part of the game to get their moneys/times worth of enjoyment.

And me? Between 40 alts and a full time job, i will always have something to do in game so long as I enjoy the core gameplay - using powers against enemies.
  20. The names I got that seemed obvious are: Final Option, Charcoal, Hero Mode, Deviltry and Opportunity.
    All on Defiant
  21. This has been suggested before. Sorting out the 5th/Council/Arachnos? lore mess would be very nice. At least for the people who care about such things. Pity there are no "All things writing" threads, or even anyone really in charge of all writing as far as I can tell.

I have made some suggestions before. Instead of reposting, here is a link.

    Apex SF sucks!

What we need is Westin Phipps (co-op) Strike force where everybody gets to team up and go to Praetoria to kick their puppies, paint crude pictures on their clockwork and grab anything not nailed down (with a "crowbar" temp power for the items that are nailed down). All to support the war effort of course.

It's a very good pack but I can't help but think that it could have bin even better if they let us in more on the development.
I agree that "mouths closed" versions would be good. As would big cat tails - though for me, even a direct upscale* of the existing feline tail would be adequate.

As for letting us in more, they did release information about the pack two weeks before release. To build hype certainly, but also to gather feedback/suggestions while there is still time to make (minor) changes.

    * Best case would be implementing body sliders for tail and wing size, but that is out of scope for a booster pack.
