  1. Much better!! Warning a poser collision problem. Her left foot looks to be "in" the ground not on it.
  2. The pose makes alot more sense with her throwing or pounching, but I guess what makes it akward to me is no referance point (ie the fireball or a guy getting punched).

A possible sugestion. Keep her torso facing forward more or less, but rotate her legs right so they are slightly trailing the torso. The then the upper body will appear in the proper postion and you still get the more front on torso view it looks like you were trying for. Basically her right knee (the flexed one) should be coming right at the viewer. You may also want to curve the fire effect to further enhance the idea of turning.

Please this is not ment to be too critical, I think the work so far is very nice, and I do like the background alot, and the details.
  3. Was going to say the same thingabout the breats, lol.

Also the torso rotation seems kinda off. Here is why I think so.

If she is running strait the legs and torso should be aligned. If she is turning to her left the torso would actually turn 1st not the legs. Go run a little and feel how your body moves. When you go to turn your, shoulder leans in the direction of the turn 1st then your legs follow. Here she looks to be going to her left (she is looking to the left) and you have the legs going 1st while her torso almost looks to be making a right turn.

If I am wrong please one of the beter artists correct me.
    Overall a nice start otherwise.
  4. /salute

I was working in Hoboken, NJ at the time. The day after people walked down to the pier that overlooks the city, and just stood there in stunned silence. You could smell and see the smoke, and hear people stories. That was the moment it became very real to me.

Thank you for this, very much.
  5. Holy crap, I like that. Good to see a new piece from dj, and lucky Rowr scores another great piece.
  6. Athyna remined me of something I should have mentioned.

The artists here push me to do better, to work harder to makes something that has a chance of getting noticed with so much great stuff out there. When, I gets praise, recognition or even advice from anyone here it really makes me feel good!

Plus, I must add, that this is the friendliest part of the cox forum land. We very rarely see gripping, harshness, or ugliness that creeps into other forum areas. I know this is mainly just people expressing their oppinions, and rarely is it malicious, but it is so nice to come to a truely friendly and supportive forum whever I want.

Oh, yeah. I can not forget my trusty grey kneadable eraser. They last forever and are invaluble. It is also helpful to get an eraser shield a little peice of aluminim with cutouts in it. This help erase in tight areas where you want to preserve certian things. It is also helpful to have simple geometry item like a protractor, ruler etc, and circle and oval templets.

I use a standard 0.5 mm hb pentel mechanical pencil for all my sketching. I have blue line pro comic bristal boards I use when I am doing nicer stuff, otherwise (as bad as this may be) I use heavyweight general purpose paper for most of my 8 x 11 stuff. I do have some blue sketch pencil that I will use when doing bristal board work. I have experimented with a brush and/or sketch pen (the stylus style) and Higgins india ink (not very good with those yet though).

After sketching, I do the rest of my work in photoshop after scanning. I use a wacom Intous 3 tablet in photoshop.
  9. I am thankful that everyone tolerates those of us posting here to learn and get better. I have never had the guts to post anything I have drawn before, and can count on one hand the number of people that had seen anything that I had drawn before I posted in this forum. The supporsters and artists alike have been both helpful and inspirational. I hope to be able to do more soon (work is still frantic).

So thank you one and all!!!

  12. Celsia

    Hmmm..........

The set up the list late on 8/31, Gill was done at the wire on 9/1, so not on list.
  13. Is this better? I decrease the saturation and brightness, as well as added lens blur to the background.

  14. Katfood strikes again. Never letting the artists get a moment of rest. Looks good.

    Hmmm..

Really keep working at it, and the first time one of the established really good people comments on you, gives you advice, or gives you praise, it will make you feel very good.

Btw real life people are 6 heads comic people are 8 plus heads.
  16. Thanks for the responces. I am gonna try and tone down the background some(It is a little too much), but I wanted something there to show better the cape transperency.

As for her being a redhead, ask the creator not me. The original Frosty Girl actually was a tank with white hair
  17. I know this has taken me a long time this time around, but I have been extremely busy. Please give me any suggestions on improving it, but overall I think I am happy.

    Frosty's Revenge
  18. Not much to add, but I also start with the spine/torso, then move to the soulders and hips. Then losely to a single line for arm and leg placement. The head is generally an oval or even an oval globe combination on which I immediately place my eye nose location marks.

Next, I will usually sketch volume shapes for at least the torso and sometimes the arms and legs depending on the perspective. Most importantly at least for me is I keep it very very lose, sketch lightly and erase often till the base looks right. I am often fighting the urge to detail at time, but you must fight it!!! I am usually 90% happy or more with pose before I even start details. Furthermore, if I am doing someone else character, I will often not even look at the character other than basic body type before I get the pose down. If I am unaware of how the details look, easier to avoid the temptation.

But with all that said, slightly different approached work/don't work for me at different time. I use alot of trial and error.
  19. I actually looked for some stuff I draw 10 + years again including the original Celsius (now Celsia), and a few covers I redraw. Really wish I could find them.

Then again maybe I should repost my stuff from 4 to 5 months ago.
  20. For some reason the right arm (TA's) looks thinner than the left. I know it is just the shading, but it makes the arm look off to me. Also the highlight on the left upper arm looks wrong. All the other highlights seem to be coming from the right of the piece, then the top of the left upper arm is bright. The highlight on the right arm is definately below TA in my eye so I guess some off the shading seems off. I know that is not very clear, but I am having trouble putting it into words.

These are not ment to be harsh, it is a great piece overall.
  21. OK started inking the main boarder lines over the last few days (in the middle of my very crazy weekend). I have much of the main outline done, but I am having some trouble deciding were to put my lightsource on this. My inclination is to have it to the left of the page illuminating the face and her left side, with fairly heavy inking to the right especially lower down. I am also debating especially with the cape and hair going for a much softer look using minimal to no black boarders so they kinda washout out at the edges and lack definition there. I have not done this look before but think it fits the pic kinda bad but very seductive (which is usually a softer look in my mind). This would mean re-inking parts, but I think make the pic more striking.

I would appritiate suggestions on these thoughts.
  22. Having purchased a tablet about 3 months ago here is my advice.

    1. Wacom
    2. They have various lines the Graphire is the home/hobby line. You can get a small one of these for around $80 online. The intous is the more serious model line and teh small one there is about $175 online. Then they get vary expensive. The main differences in the 2 are pen sensitivity, hotkeys actually on the tablet, and tilte sensing features.
    3. Judge your size the small is 3 x 5 and they get vary large. Small is cheeper and is may be enough depening on how you draw. The tablet when using the pen is your screen. Press on one corner that is where you curser is etc. So you need to judge how long a stroke you use to draw and how you brain will deal with the upscaling to screen size. Most people seem most happy with the 6 x 8 from what I have read. An that is my size and I like it alot, would not want any larger.
    4. as for ebay, just to stress, make sure it comes with the pen!!!! The pen is about 40% of the cost of the tablet.
  23. ok add my 2 cents here. Overall I love the pose, and wow oils!!! The sketch is great, and I did not notice the leading away thing until you mentioned it graver. I first looked at the sketch loved it then read the comments, now my eyes wonder off, LOL the power of suggestion. I think I agree with most here when it was said leave the position it looks great.

A possible solution may be by having a narrow focus on the piece. The body at the center nice crisp, bright, while the wings are more blurred and muted in color. But, I really have no place giving you advice.

I like it alot, you are by far one of the most unique people here in style, and one of the more innovative.
  24. *smacks a graduation cap on head* Wow, you can teach me stuff!!!!
