Vintage Art: Post your old school work

I thought it would be cool to start posting some of my vintage art. If anyone else has some old school art laying around, blow the dust off and post away

Fight Club is one of my favorite movies. So several years back I rendered a GILL BATES soap bar in Maya. I wanted to add bubbles but I had too much other stuff going on at the time so I never got back to it. Don't laugh too hard...

Haha, that's pretty clever <,<

Vintage work eh? <'x'> Oh dear... I have *loads* of this stuff... I'm actually pretty damn proud of some of it too... I may scan some extra later but here's my favorite 'old' works of mine...

Ayanei - Death From Above - This one is obviously old - its on notebook paper! I haven't drawn on that since maybe my second year of college >.>; this one is early college I *think*. She's supposed to be dropping on two enemies.

Yuriko - Smoke on Asphault - This is the *original* version of my Yuriko character (the version I'm returning her look to, since her revamp made her look exactly like Rei Ayanami <x.x&gt - obviously I like thin c haracters <'x'> and her head's way out of proportion. But I was super-happy with the smoke! The character used to have a pair of knives in forearm holsters, that would shoot over her shoulders so she could grab them <,< Terribly impractical, but really cool looking! <,<

Peace On Earth - The T-Shirt This was designed for a "self portrait" I did... the self portrait was supposed to portray yourself as you see yourself - not as you are... so this is the back of the shirt that the portrait had - the idea is its a blending of the three major monotheistic religions - the Cross, the Star of David, and the Crescent - to create this symbol that is meant as a sort of unifier for a story I was writing at the time. I included some other elements - the crown of thorns, blood tears, etc... lots of reasons <,< some of which were "Well it looked cool!"

You can prolly see the Evangelion influence in the imagery <'x'> even if its not that well drawn.

Duros - Adamantine Angel This is Duros - main villain for the story that featured Ayanei >.> I was really happy with this wing setup... its more imposing than the original 'steel' wings I was using for him... makes him more 'hover' than 'fly'. Was also very happy with the fur on the cloak.

My first comic page! <,< - Try not to laugh... this was my first comic page... the idea is Ayanei rushing through a battlefield full of technozombies. (Zombies were the main fodder unit used by Duros >.&gt I was really happy with it at the time.

Yumii - First Blood - This is an incomplete piece... but I was happy with it at the time. Its actually bigger than my scanner would allow (thus the huge dark spot... there's alot missing!) I was happy with the face though - all that liquid in the air is blood, most of it just not darkened.

Ayanei - Purity - *now* you can laugh. This was an attempt at a fine-artsy nude piece. It should be SFW; but I warn you it may not be. The proportions are bad... was happy with the composition though. Even if it is pretty damn cliche.

End of the Begining - Sick of Ayanei yet? >.>;; I drew her alot... she was supposed to be a manga char (and may yet be... I still like the story I wrote with her); this is after her first fight with zombies. She's just an ordinary 16 year old living in a wasteland (the world's been nuked and this is hundreds of years later) - but she's got all these cybernetics (through an accident... I'll explain later if anyone cares <,&lt and the cybernetics just 'take over'. So she killed the zombie versions of her entire village. Kind of a double whammie - one that they were dead in the first place, the other that she had to finish them off herself - and that she wasn't in control of herself at the time either. Yeah, its cliche out the wazoo too.

Angel Tatoo - This was just a piece I did because I was obsessed with angels... still am to a degree. I wanted to do a very intricate tatoo design; and I succeeded sorta >.> The proportions are bad... she has no bum! At all... like its just completely flat. This was a time where all my characters had crazy facial tatoos and such. Twas a phase!

Duel
One of my favorite old pics... its a duel between Ayenei and Duros. Obviously, Duros is missing his hood, revealing a little more than was obvious. You can't see the face but I'll hint - Duros isn't exactly a he. (Subtle, I know!)

Just 1 more I promise >.>

Self Portrait - This is that self portrait I mentioned earlier, the one with the insane shirt. That's how I thought of me at the time <,< I *told* you all I had a huge ego! See? <T_T>; My art teacher even mentioned it. >.>; /shrug

If you wanna see more (are you crazy?!) Check out my Photobucket - Warning! Its a total friggin mess in there lol <,< Also, the CuppaJo pics are all drawn by Crimson_Jimson (You already knew that, but I wanted to mention it anyway) - I just colored em! Oh, and the real pic is me >.> you prolly already knew that too though!

Ok ok I'll shuddup now <'x'>

This is the only thing I have on my computer right now. It's my first photomanipulation from about four years ago. I made it for my website which has long since lapsed, but I think the picture is cool.

I just found a HUGE cache of my drawings from junior high and high school, maybe I'll scan some in later

This is just a little piece I did one weekend while painting my kid's room...

*EDIT* - Kidding aside, I don't have anything vintage that I'm brave enough to share.

All of you with digital school pieces are making me feel old! I did not even hear about Photoshop until my senior year of college.

I'll have to go to the back of my closet and see if there are any thing I can dig up worthy of scanning.

None of my pieces are digitally manipulated >.> scanned sure, but those old ones are alllllll me. Pencilified <,< /cry <;.;> and I *still* suck.

I had a project for a Humanities class where we had to learn Bryce 5. And my senior project for photography was to learn and teach photoshop 4 or 5 to my teacher.

I have alot more detailed drawings that are hand shaded and everything, but their a tad big for my scanner. and a tad burried in the garage.

I actually looked for some stuff I draw 10 + years again including the original Celsius (now Celsia), and a few covers I redraw. Really wish I could find them.

Then again maybe I should repost my stuff from 4 to 5 months ago.

As for old-school drawings, first, Gill, man, I thought the goal was to post something that really sucked? When the hell are ya gonna do that? . And while I'm ranting, Darkjedi, while the painting you posted was nice and old-school (were you inspired by a church somewhere? I seem to recall some little church somewhere having a painting like that on their wall or ceiling or some such )... you need to stop being a wuss and post some old work or so help me, I'll... I'll... I'll... um... do... absolutely nothing. That's right, NOTHING! hah

Before I post mine though, I just wanna say to the Squirrel, some of that old work you posted is pretty good. Death from above stands out in my mind. It wasn't bad at all

And NewEden, um, server can't be found.

Okay, and now for my bad (and not the 80's kind of bad either) old-school work...

The oldest I still have is from 89 or so (around the 7th grade). These were characters made for the first rpg I ever played (without making the whole game up) TMNT and Other Strangeness (ya, not only a nerd, but a bad one at that, but TMNT was all the rage then).

Mutants and their Space Ship: '89

Next up is 90... approximately the 8th grade if memory serves. This is the main character I used to play in any rpg I could find. This is his Rift's version along with more vehicles... the motorcycles the group used to travel around on... I wasn't too good with motorcycles XD

Gunbunny and Motorcycles '90

In 91 (approximately 9th grade... the latter half) I had just started figuring out cross hatching. I put the poorly applied colored pencils aside and began focusing on just ink. These are yet more characters from pen and paper rpg's that I played. Also, as a side note, this is what happens when you use cheep non archival ink on cheep paper (though I think I like it )

Benton, Becka, some chr I can't even remember, and Gunbunny: '91

More of the same from 92 (10th grade), though I had started drawing a bit bigger (using a full sheet of copy paper now)...

Janice, Ozzie, and the D.W.I, Mar and Paragon

93, around my junior year and going into the first part of my senior year (before I just stopped going) I had gotten obsessed with sharpies and had started using them, Xeroxing the drawing and then using markers to color it. I have since lost the colored versions, but I still have the original sharpie images.

More characters

After I stopped going to high-school, my drawing kind of fell off. I did some flyers for a garage band for a bit but pretty soon being a homeless couch surfing permafried gutterpunk kinda put a stop to things. I started back up again around '97-'98 and had fallen in love with inks. I don't have much from that time except an ink wash and a strait up ink painting.

Vampire , Bone

Okay, well, that's way more then enough from me... I gotta get back to work now , but Darkjedi, if I could do it, then so can you

for me high school was the end of the seventies. I doubt I have anything left from then . Moving several times will do that.

Wow, some of the stuff on this thread (even though it's vintage) is pretty darned good! Vintage... bah!

I have some old pictures scanned, or at least laying around somewhere. I'm going ot see if I can't find any to post here later.

Man I have some stuff from my 7th grade art class in a box somewhere. Let me see if I can go find it...I'll repost if I can.

Okay, I have a lot of 'old' art I'd like to show. All of it was done within the past 7 years. I'll try to go chronologically, but a lot of these pics don't have dates, so no promises...

High School
Plasma Bot - Oldest piece I have, and the only piece I have ever colored. I like the robot design if nothing else.

Earthworm Jim - Though I sucked at the games, I couldn't deny the concept. The tv show gave me a good laugh too.

Sennah - A character of a friend of mine, Niko Geyer. His picture of her is much beter. I haven't talked to him in over five years though, so I don't even know if he'd remember me, heh.

Random Monster - Never finished it, but man the face is badass!

Tiny Girl - Random picture. Litterally the size of my index finger.

Mecha/TechnoSuit - I forgot all about this one until I was going through my old sketches. Man, I was creative back then...

MegaTokyo - Fan art I did for MegaTokyo. Wow, I've been reading that comic for a long time...

College
Battle Damage - Inspired by Ghost in the Shell. The most riske picture I've ever drawn.

Perched Vampire - While, I stink at drawing misc stuff, I really like the pose. Yeah... her chin is kinda, uhh, pointy. This is vintage dangit!

Eirowyn - My second, and favorite level 50 daoc character. Friar is probably one of my favorite mmo classes ever.

Aurana (cleric) - Have you ever just hit the artistic jackpot? Well, that's how I feel about this piece. Proportions are pretty darned good, not to mention the detail on the mace. Sure there a problems, but still one of my favorite 'vintage' pieces.

Captain (sketch) - Never finished this, but I liked the beginnings of it. Also shows I draw more than just girls...

Atillita - An older piece of Atillita I've done. (PS: I like swords.)

[edit - This last piece is about 6-8 months out of college... during which time I barely drew anything...]
Alien - This is a remake of an old picture I've done. It's a lizard like creature that is blind but senses via... sound? ESP? Anyways, at the end of its tail is a big clawed hand...

Okay, that's all the stuff I felt like sharing right now, though I do have more on an old site I made on geocities (eww). I'll stop linking things now... honest...

Um... I just started class last night. Can I post stuff just as I go along?

That's because your about to learn to draw with your shoulder instead of your wrist... before it's over, that pad's gonna seem pretty small

*SIGH* Well... here goes nothing. The following links are the few artworks of mine that I have on my computer, and they are all prime examples of why Jomaro is the artist and NOT me lol:

1. 'Ebony Hall' was a comic strip series I created back in highschool. It was heavily influenced by the sitcom 'A Different World' and inspired by Archie Comics (Double Digest FTW!)

Ebony Hall cover
Tour de Ebony Hall pg. 1
Tour de Ebony Hall pg. 2
Au Natural pg. 1
Au Natural pg. 2
It's a Dirty Job But...

2. Clueless is a one page comic about Jomaro and I back when we lived in MD. I had just started to play around with Photoshop.

3. Sistah is a toon drawing I did for a friend back in 2003 or so.

4. Flower Girl was my entry for a pencil challenge on a messageboard we used to run. And here it is in color.

5. This piece was done earlier this year. It is my first and more than likely my last life drawing, lol.

How do I draw with my shoulder??? *stares at shoulder* *envisions putting a pencil under my arm and trying to draw with that*
