Very nice piece. All I can say is that day is permanently branded on my brain. I recall almost every aspect of it physically as well as emotionally.

I was only in the 8th grade that day yet I knew our world would forever be changed by those events.
Even though I'm a Canadian living in Canada the sound reached far across around the globe.
That day will live on in the hearts, minds and souls of everyone.
I salute all the brave men and women who sacrificed themselves that day in order to say another.

I still remember where I was; In my History of Western Civ class at my community college; where I have my 2 year degree from.

I'd just gotten done arguing with the professor because he hates discussing the vikings - so he glosses them every time; but he loves the Roman Empire and spends 2 months on it... anyway...

That all seemed pretty trivial when a professor from down the hall ran in and shouted that "they hit the Trade Center" - we all just sort of sat there in silence for awhile.

I eventually mentioned, optimistically, that 'there's no way anyone could hijack an airliner... the best they could do would be a few little prop planes maybe with some explosives - nothing we can't rebuild right?"

Class was dismissed, I got home, checked the news...

Yeah. I spent 6 months fantasizing of ways to remove bin Laden's head; I'm not a violent person, but to do something that awful... frankly I wish I'd known sooner that there were still people like that in the world. I was naive then.

We move on though - grief gives way to anger, anger to determination, determination to hope. We'll never forget September 11th, 2001, just like we'll not forgot December 7th, 1941; the memories will grow a little hazy with time - but no one alive today will forget, and those who come after will learn.

I still hold out hope that someday, we'll all find a way to live together. There will always be violence: But may it be isolated and rare.

Not a thread jack. But shortly after the event I made these, front and back to a T shirt. If anyone wants to print them and have them made, by all means. All I ask is that they never, ever be sold or if you do sell them ALL proceeds go to one of the various legitimate 9 11 charities and funds for those who lost.

Amen.

Thanks much for this thread, btw. Another ostensibly similar one kinda cheesed me, but this one is right on the mark.

I was working in Hoboken, NJ at the time. The day after people walked down to the pier that overlooks the city, and just stood there in stunned silence. You could smell and see the smoke, and hear people stories. That was the moment it became very real to me.

Thank you for this, very much.

Unsurprisingly, I was gaming... came back from wal mart (working as a stocker at the time, trying to get reestablished in WI.) Looked at my Diablo II group's boards... someone mentioned "someone kamikazed a plane into the world trade center."

"Nah, maybe a small one crashed or something, but that couldn't happen."

Do remember seeing the second one hit on TV. And the towers falling. ANd just flat out being in shock.

Hey Celsia & Memphis - glad you liked it.

I got a phone call early in the morning from a friend, ran down and turned on the TV, low volume so as not to wake the rest of the household - flipping channels. Then turned it off and sat in silence for an hour, not sure wheter to wake the others right then, or wait until they'd arisen of their own accord. As it went, someone else phoned and woke them.
