Lookin at this, Electric is the weakest resist set, Energy is the weakest defense set and Shield is the weakest combo set.
No offense, but this sort of methodology is precisely why Theorycrafting from number in Mids isn't the be-all and end-all and can give false impressions about how sets play in the actual game (and I'm basing this on personal experience from generating my Stone/Fire brute in Mids, thinking "That looks awesome" and then trying it ingame for 40 levels).

Having played both Elec and Fire brutes up to level 40ish my own experience is that Fire is quite a way behind Elec in terms of survivability.

Elec is pretty much the middle of the road Resistance set and actually has few holes, whereas Fire tends to run into enemies which can cause it serious pain far more often.

And in my case I had Elec paired with Claws (not much mitigation in the primary) and Fire paired with Stone (which has buckets of soft and hard control) and still had more issues with the Stone/Fire compared to the Claws/Elec blender.

Mind you the Stone/Fires spike damage would be awesome nowadays.

Both are/can be completely ranged (ranged is better than melee for both), with plenty of access to AoEs.

You can softcap them both to ranged at the bare minimum, and to all 3 positions with a bit of effort (The fort is easier to cap, but the Crab when capped can also have 50% SM/L Resistances as well as 40% resistance to everything else but psi. In addition you get serum for self heal & +extra HP).

You also get status protection, and enough group support to be welcome on any team.
^ This (although a Forts claws attacks are also worthwhile if you want to go that route too, a Fort can be a very viable mix of ranged single target, ranged AOE and melee claw attacks and PBAOE).

If you're looking for a Blaster with shields then a Fort is the way to go (or a crab, but I haven't played one myself).

Cronos is hard to beat, but if we're restricting ourselves to humans I call Laius of Thebes. I'm sure other people have equally valid stories about how Peter Griffin crippled his his child and left him on a hillside to die.
Gaia (Cronos's mum) isn't exactly lovely either mind. She convinces Cronos to castrate his dad and then when Uranus is overthrown she's the one who tells Cronos that this own children (Zeus et all) being destined to overthrow him in turn, which is why Cronos eats them (and in fairness they were Gods and got thrown up again without any real harm done).

That said reading up on this most of the Greek and Roman gods are pretty rubbish parents. Supernanny would not be impressed.

You can have an Energy Shield (to match Energy melee). However you cannot have a Vanguard Shield, that too needs to be unlocked.

Having nitpicked that though it would make more sense for Weapon Unlocks to be Account wide. The way it works now limits creativity, at least making them account wide means if you've an idea for an alt but it requires an unlock you can do so with an alt who normally wouldn't be able to use the unlock anyway.

Boosters are account wide (including the weapons & cossie options they offer), other available unlocks should be the same. If my Plant/Empath completes the ITF then my reward should be something I as a player can use, like being able to make a new Roman Gladiator scrapper alt.
  5. Hmmm. My Grav/Trick Arrow and Illusion/Storm controllers would like this option, especially my Grav/TA. The only thing he uses Entangling Arrow for is his own amusement in fights with large enemies.

Every other character I have wouldn't really care that much.

Since Blasters can only fire off their Tier 1 of their secondary when mezzed what would be done there? Tough if you don't take it (leading to cries of "Devs hate Blasters") or expanding it to Tier 1&2, thus allowing them to fire off melee attacks (or Caltrops) when mezzed?

Overall I agree with Claws, there's no real reason for the change at all. It doesn't particularly solve many problems (the one case I can think of is my Grav/TA controller).

So in effect only the actual target will roll the PROC, because they are the only person hit by the Hold effect.

This is also why, for example, sticking a Posis Blast into Oil Slick Arrow doesn't work until the Slick is ignited, the proc is attached to Targetted AOE Damage which doesn't kick in until the Flame Patch appears.

This is also true of pets. If you stick one of these Hold PROCs into a Dark Servant for example it will only have a chance of proccing when he fires off his Hold.

Edit : Ooops, notice you said "Damage PROC", if it's a Ranged Damage or Hold one the above holds, since only the original target is hit with the Hold and Damage effects of the power.

Actually interestingly I think that means if you slot Blind with just Hold and Damage sets that in fact the AOE Sleep accuracy will be unaffected and at base.

Also interestingly from reading on Red Tomax how Blind works I've just realised why the experimental Chance for Heal PROC I had added from the Sleep set never worked for me no matter what I did. Damn thing uses a Pseudopet summon to do the Sleep part (so if the heal did ever trigger it was directed at that Pseudopet, not me).
  7. It happened to a Team Mate on a PuG before, just as my Plant/Emp was firing Adrenal Boost on him.

Me : "Wait, did I just buff the monkey?"
Me : "Erm, and no, that's not a euphemism"
    Monkey : "It is now"

Thanks again all the replies are much help.
My Plant/Emp/Fire Controller is one of my favourite characters, I consider her a proper Support Character. You don't really need to heal very often if the enemies are confused and busy killing each other, or being beaten to death by a forest of waving tentacles. She doesn't even have the big heal or the rez and no-one has ever complained (I'll be picking the Rez up with the i19 changes along with the Leadership Pool).

I remember being on a Citadel TF with a 'dedicated healer' (I know because he kept telling us) and feeling a bit sorry for them since they'd bugger all to do. Especially when they dropped at the start of the last mission and no-one noticed at all, we still steamrollered the AV (and in fact got the "Repeated Mission" bug and steamrollered it again, this time without the Tank).

Full Support != Healer, and in general anyone who goes the "full healer" route with only 1 attack and things like the Medicine Pool are among the first to find themselves approaching redundant on a team.
  13. Several of my characters have various types of kryponite already.

My Broadsword/Fire scrapper has Cold and Psi attacks. Both are a doubly whammy of being able to get through my resistances and do lots of -recharge which seriously weakens me.

My Dark/WP Brute has spike damage to contend with, along with anything that does -regen.*

My Fort/Widow is highly vulnerable to enemies with +ToHit and can suffer serious cascading defensive failures very quickly.

My Plant/Empath suffers greatly against Nemesis, as does my Illusion/Stormy and my Dark/Sonic.*

Kryponite and vulnerabilities exist already within the game for a lot of characters. They just aren't lampshaded as such (other than Quants/Voids for Khelds, which was rolled back somewhat a few issues ago when the damage type was changed from a special one to Neg NRG).

She is a swine to beat though, personally I asked the wee team I was on for help, myself, a Tank and a Stalker took her down pretty easily in the end after she had ripped me apart solo.

Okay, here's something you did not know about Fury.

Brutes need fury to match the damage of other archtypes.

Somebody, not me, actually worked out the numbers. A Brute needs to average somewhere around 63% base fury in order to match the damage output of a scrapper at the same level with the same exact enhancement slotting.

This means that in an average solo situation a Brute with identical slotting to a scrapper is actually not going to be that far ahead of a scrapper in terms of total damage.

    http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Patch_No...0-08-16#Brutes
    • # Modified the Brute Fury Formula so that there is a more gradual degradation of Fury Build Up while attacking/being attacked instead of a sharp fall off at 80%. The fall off begins at 30%.
    • # Reduced Fury Decay Rate from 2 points per second to 0.75 points per second.
    • # The overall result of these two changes to Fury Generation is that it will be easier to maintain low levels of Fury, while gaining very high levels of Fury will be more difficult.

At 80% Fury, a Brute should be more powerful than a scrapper in casual play with the same exact slotting.

    * * *

Now, in teaming situations, that dynamic does change. Scrappers do benefit more from damage boosts than Brutes: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Damage_Cap#Damage

A Scrappers maximum damage cap is 500%, or to your display tracking, 400%. A scrapper's critical does 2X damage, This means that a scrapper floored into their damage cap will actually have a damage bonus of 1000% on a critical strike.

The brutes maximum damage cap is 775%, or to your display tracking, 675%. Because the Brute's damage cap is so high, they pretty much require two full fulcrum shifts in order to actually cap their damage... and they will still be doing less effective average damage than a scrapper. This also means that Brutes will continue to benefit from OTHER PLAYER'S DAMAGE BOOSTS long after everybody else no longer gains any practical benefit.

uh huh. Safe to nuke. Okay, yes I can see this most nukes do -1000% recovery and painbringer can counter that...

    but... really... really horrible example.

Thing is, you don't understand what Forge Does.

Forge isn't just a Damage Boost. It is also a To-Hit boost. Brutes drive Fury not only by being hit, but by hitting enemies. Increasing a Brute's to-hit enables them to land more hits and drive higher amounts of Fury.

Forge is just as valuable to Brutes as it is to every other archtype. It can actually even more useful to brutes because Brute's have such a high damage cap to begin with, and will benefit from the application of Forge as just a Damage bonus even with other archtypes are capped.

So: Why use Forge on a Brute?

BECAUSE IT IS THE SMART THING TO DO YOU FOR YOUR BRUTE FRIENDS.

Trust me, your Brutes will thank you for looking after their damage and to-hit.
40% on a Brute isn't as useful as it is to a Stalker, Corrupter or Domi though. Or a scrapper or a Blaster.

That's not to say it's useless on a Brute (and the ToHit point is very valid indeed) but that it's more useful to other ATs and personally I'd dole it out accordingly.

I do the same with Fortitude on my Plant/Emp. Unless the Tank / Brute is struggling to survive I'll tend to give it to others before them, focusing on AOE Scrappers, Blappers, melee Domis and the like.

(Mind you Adrenalin Boost is gold on a Brute)
  17. A Necro/Dark doesn't have the same AOE abilities as say a Bots or Thugs, but does have those lovely hard hitting broadsword attacks. So rather than lots of weak enemies fewer harder enemies would be the way I'd go.

+1 or +2 x2 would probably be the settings I'd aim for, with bosses switched on.

Powerboost is down to a 32 second recharge. So my powerboost only has 17 seconds of downtime. It ain't perma, but I wouldn't say "Nope, can't get it close."
    A) PB starts off with 120 second recharge. So 32 ain't bad, considering.
    B) Due to the nature of PB, the only reason perma PB would be great is for toggles. If you have defense sets, PB will boost them for those 15 seconds, then wear off. But clicks tend to last longer. So if you figure it in terms of the power you want to be permaboosted, than yes, 32 second recharge is enough to consider the power in your chain permaboosted. If If that doesn't make sense, I'll give you an example.
Given that the OP was written and answered in 2005 it WAS true then, since IOs didn't exist back then.

I'm not sure why you resurrected a 5 year old post.

In general sticking GG on ignore is the best option if you haven't developed your own internal filters for one-line smilies.

I don't particularly believe these forums are filled with closed-minded bigots either mind. I frequently give out about some aspects of this game, and myself and Sam frequently have arguments where we're on opposing sides. The difference is we've still got respect for each others point of view, even if we disagree with it personally.

It's not like there's even a decent reward for soloing a GM anyway, so I don't think the devs are going to care particularly.

This basically. I like fighting EBs, they feel like a proper test of a characters abilities and I've had some great fights, plus one very silly one where my Necro/Dark spent 3 minutes being chased around a room by Valkyrie in God Mode and being chased in turn by a pack of zombies, like something out of Benny Hill (thankfully the zombies weren't wearing scanity nurses outfits and suspenders though).
