Quote:But everything that goes melee, those pets are dead. They really should pick up WoW's style of 90% AOE damage reduction, no freaking way they can survive AoE blows from +4-+6 mobs (lowest pet is afaik 48).
No, AOEs are supposed to be a MMs weakness (with the counter-perk that AOE heals work benefit them greatly)
What they should do is fix the damn pet AI already. -
Dear Giant Blue Embodiment of Ancient Greek God,
Please get a longer toga.

Quote:If you're solo, then the damage is definitely better. But if you're with a team, even 2.5% is better than a damage buff since it increases all damage from all members of the team.
Don't forget as well that -resist is a damage multiplier, whereas a standard damage buff like Assault is only additive.
In other words the more Damage buffs you have from other sources (enhancements, alpha slots, teams and self buffs like Build-Up) the more bang you get from the -resist. -
Listed in the Known Issues
So yes, it is stickied and known about. Hopefully a patch can be brought out next week (I assume they wouldn't bring one out just before the weekend). -
On teams my Plant/Emp, oddly enough. I levelled her a lot during City of Dual Pistols and had a lot of fun jumping from PuG to PuG. She also managed to solo Trapdoor, The Honoree and chum and Mr Minotaur in the Incarnate arc without dying once (which surprised me given how I'd read about peoples issues with Trapdoor).
Solo my Necro/Dark mastermind. Most EBs are a speed bump to him. In fact some died so quickly I hadn't even noticed them until after they were defeated (hi Mirror Spirit!). -
Quote:I think the next tier of rewards will be "coins".
We have shards and threads. Those are 0-dimensional (points, shards) and 1-dimensional (lines, threads). The next step up would be 2-dimensional - flat and perhaps round: "coins".
There might be different colored coins... bronze, silver, gold.
The next step up again would be "solids" as in the platonic solids. We've already seen a few of them in the game in that mission where we have to get the solids back before the Warriors can figure out how to use them. There are different kinds of solids too: 4-sided, 6-sided, 8-sided, 10-sided, 12-sided and 20-sided. We might have to fight the Gamester for them.
After that are we going to be collecting tesseracts and hyper-toruses (Mmmm. 4 Dimensional Donuts...)? -
Happened to me too via the Turnstile. I only got as far as watch Mother Mayhems cleavag... I mean speech and once she'd stopped talking about whatever she was talking about I got booted.
Didn't bother retrying since. -
Quote:I seem to think Cardiac is really the only Alpha. I mean...the "only".
Even though I considder myself a decent slotter, my Grav/FF/Psi (Used to be fire) gets buy further using Cardiac.
My defender, Emp/Psi who should be using Spiritual in my oppinion, can't solo without heavy end loss so Ill have to build one Cardiac and one Spiritual.
So far though. Cardiac seems overall best for any toon ever! It's the only Alpha that really benefits almost every AT.
Others may disagree, but if you are Ioing, and slotting etc, Cardiac allows for more possibilites period when it comes to becoming more inventive with slotting.
On your build, it is your best option.
One of the main reasons Cardiac gives you so much bang for your buck is that in general End isn't something you slot for primarily in a power, except in a few case.
So none or very little of the Cardiac bonus is lost to ED, unlike say a Recharge Alpha bonus where the powers you wanted to recharge were slotted for 95% recharge : unless you were going for the Very Rare ED eats a lot of the recharge bonus on you. -
What has me kinda puzzled is that for a bunch of devs who apparently didn't like Farming in their game these new trials reek of MA horticultural activities in many ways.
Repeat this content over and over again to earn thingies you can use to buy shinies with.
Tis puzzling. -
Quote:My biggest issue with the new team UI is that the buff icon list is huge compared to the classic UI and on a sizable team with a lot of powers flying about it easily obscures half the screen, even with numeric stacking.
Try also hiding toggle powers (see my sig) in the Team Window as a work-around until they fix the icons. It won't totally fix the issue but it might soften it a bit.
Slash Command would be

Quote:Just a quick question in case anyone knows, but will we be able to merge a NA account with an EU account when we get access to all the servers on one account.
Many apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but a link if anyone has one would be great
Thanks in advance.
Nope, there's mention of it in the "One List for all" announcement but Zwi specifically says in it that at the moment there's no plans to allow any sort of Account merge or the ability to move characters from an obsolete account to another one of yours.
I'd love it if they did it too, but I wouldn't hold my breath for such a feature.
*Edit : Ze linky -
This is one of these "How long is a piece of string" questions, in that you're going to get a bazillion different answers and combos because so many of them are fun.
What sort of playstyle do you want is probably the first question. If you like being in melee and don't mind being squished occasionally Fire, Ice and Elec are probably the three most melee friendly control sets, because all 3 have an Aura type power. Any secondary will tend to go with them, with individual wrinkles to each (NRG does knockback, which some people don't like but I've found Elec/NRG to be an effective combo anyway because the knockback is single target. Psi doesn't do massive melee damage but it has Drain Psyche which can give you more Regen than anyone else in the game if you hit enough enemies with it).
If you like being Ranged Earth, Mind, Plant and Grav focus more on ranged control powers. Fire Assault is the clear leader here because of Embrace of Fire. You can do huge amounts of single target and good AOE damage (domis are never really the kings of AOE damage anyway) with it.
If you like to solo Mind is probably the solo king, grav is its somewhat distant cousin. If you like to team Earth has ridiculous amounts of AOE control patches where Plant brings more AOE damage via Roots and Carrion Creepers.
Elec brings quick recharging, not-quite-as-hard AOE/pseudo-AOE controls which suit steamrolling teams pretty well.
The unfortunate runt of the litter is Gravity Control, the pros of Grav on a Controller are rendered obsolete on a Domi and it takes a long time to get some AOE control on it.
The Domi Combos I have at the mo are :
Ice/Psi : Decent combo although personally I dislike the fact you've to wait until 38 to get your AOE. Psi Scream is kinda annoying too. Drain Psyche is godly though. Tonnes of stacked -recharge.
Earth/Fire : Excellent combo, especially in those situations where you pull 2 or 3 spawns in a Room of Death or some Ambushes decide to come in. Earth has the best Area Control of all the sets. Fire does silly ranged damage. Not the greatest meleer because your PBAOE and your hard hitting melee attack are both Damage over Time
Elec/NRG : Great single target damage and quite a lot of fun. Very good at soloing because Elecs controls are solo friendly and quick to recharge. Knockback takes some getting used to but when you're able to keep a +2 Night Widow on her back (oo-er) with Power Push you come to love it. On teams very good at doing Bad Things to bosses either close up or from range (or one and then the other thanks to Power Push. You can hit Push and queue up Total Focus and clobber them with TF as they are still flying backwards).
Ice/Thorns : Very good meleer, thorns has the best Cone attack of all the secondaries, it's very melee friendly, but takes a while to mature because the two hardest hitting attacks you get at 35 and 38. -
Quote:Whomever they have designing interfaces in this game really needs to start upping their game. Our UIs are terrible a lot of the time and have little regard for usability or readability.Just as a point of reference, I dug these out of the I20 beta forum over here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...8&postcount=39:
Did they, like, just ... misplace the color values for the old UI? Did they toss out the old one without keeping any screenshots or logging into then-Live?
And I'd like to note that at least for me, that second image is muted compared to what I see on Live currently. -
Quote:Yes, I am. When I spot a call for a TF and I'm in the middle of a mission, I exit the instance, I get invited and I join the TF. Requesting that I "commit" as some kind of formal statement is unnecessary, pompous and above all needlessly limiting. If a person can be yanked out of an instance - something that needs to happen - then that person is ready enough.
Why are we going out of our way to browbeat people asking for greater accessibility and greater comfort with what amounts to excuses? That this doesn't exist now is not the end of the world, but this is still something that SHOULD be worked on. Arguments to the contrary only serve to stifle the game's progress.
I'd agree with Sam here, if you are going to allow In-mission people to join queues then they would have to be automatically yanked out as soon as the Queue says so.
Any form of "you have two minutes to leave the mission" complicates things too much.
I'd also still be worried that there aren't certain mission types or settings where an "auto-leave" mechanism could foul up. The ones that spring to mind would be MA and Ouro missions as they use the TF set-up. -
-
Quote:Why do people feel the need to run solo missions while they're queued? If you want to run a Trial, you're telling folks that you're ready to go when the thing starts. If you're in the middle of a mission, you're not ready.
Take that time to market if you need to be doing something. Or better yet, be active by forming a League to run the trial instead of waiting for the Turnstile to send you in.
I kinda agree here. Why not just street-sweep if you want to be earning drops etc while you wait?
Expecting to be in a mission adds to many wrinkles to the LFG system and could potentially slow the whole formation of a league down. -
Quote:Short answer is yes, for now it is just two trials. However, you are over estimating the time to get items. Assuming you complete the trials you also get an Empyrean Merit, a number of Astral Merits (3 or 4) and a Component of your choice.
The Empyrean merit can be exchanged for components/threads:
1 Empyrean Merit = 20 threads
8 Empyrean Merit = 1 Rare Component
30 Empyrean Merit = 1 Very Rare Component
The Astral Merits can also be exchanged for 4 threads each.
The rarity of the component is random, you will mostly get commons but can occasionally get a higher rarity component.
So worst case scenario you only get common components that means you'll need (using trial rewards for commons, threads for uncommons and E Merits for Rares/Very Rares):
12 Trials to get a T1 boost in all four slots
8 more trials to upgrade them all to uncommon (assuming you saved astral merits and threads from the first 12 for the uncommon components)
12 more to upgrade them all to rare (4 rares = 32 trials total)
152 more trials to upgrade them all to very rare
In any case the important point is it'll take about 32 runs to get a T3 in each of the slots. Getting to a T4 from there is a major effort however.
See this thread for more info:

^This, along with the plethora of new type of Salvage needed for Alpha kinda highlights my main gripe with Issue 20, a frak-load of random new currencies which have no rhyme or reason behind them.
You'd know straight away that Posi designed this system I'm afraid. -
Quote:I see. Thank you. So the City of Data is also outdated, just like real numbers. It's getting to the point where I don't trust even the correct real numbers values...
So that's one large tick of damage with my damage mods and another 13 ticks with the pet damage mods. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.
City of Data hasn't been updated in about 6 months, none of the GR changes are in there at all. -
Quote:The power doesn't affect your damage bonus at all. What is does is activate a second damage number on all your powers. It's most like Containment really, an additional damage entry in every power you have which is dependent on a condition (in this case that Fiery Embrace mode is on).So, not only does the info on the power not tell you the buff that it gives, but if you go into your Combat Attributes your damage bonus doesn't even budge (although buildup certainly does.)
Power fail or description fail?
FE itself just activates "Fiery Embrace mode" for 20 seconds.
So it's a description fail really. -

Given that Snow Global mentioned transfer points I'm not sure the suggestion is for a cross server lft system per say, but the ability to jump your character from one server to another without worrying about the name, via in game portals or something.
That'd be the stage one of how I'd go about it anyway, first get in game temporary server jumps going, then once that's bedded down implement a global lft system running, based around the i20 turnstile system.
The server to server transfer is usually pretty quick, I wonder how much load it can take though.
The issue with names on a team is minimal, the problem arises more with Tells. If someone is sending a tell to the "native" Carnifax they don't want it go go to one that's visiting the server. You could solve that by assuming that the @server is generally hidden unless you specify it, and if you omit it the system automatically appends that of the server you're on -
Insps are one of the main reasons its generally easier to run solo against lots of weaker enemies compared to a few tougher ones.
I learnt this via my Fire/Rad controller when he was doing his levelling in the Hollows, Perez and Boomtown.
It's also the reason it tends to be a good idea to have Insp combining binds for turning those yellow Insps into tasty purple, blue or red ones. -
I'd have gone with the Captain Obvious remark too (generally combined with the "lets not bother buffing or healing them in the next spawn as I have Power Boost and Vengeance ready to go anyway).
I strongly dislike team leaders who seem to think they're running some sort of tactical masterpiece here. The game isn't hard, we don't need your guidance to play it thanks, lets just cream them as quickly as we can.
If we die a few times at a room I'm willing for someone to pull, but being a team leader doesn't mean the entire team is at your beck and call and we should do it exactly as you say.
I've had a few of them in the last few weeks. And oddly they almost always seem to be Tankers. Maybe next time I'll suggest they try a mastermind instead.
The best tanks are the bouncy hyperactive ones you've to try and keep up with who just do their thing and trust you to do yours and just say things like "Wheee" -
Quote:I'd absolutely hate to be rid of Daylight Savings, it makes a massive difference over here when it kicks in (Dublin, Ireland)The mods are terrible with time conversions/time zones. At least they're only announcing one time and linking to a conversion site now, instead of giving a big list of (often wrong) converted times.
They mean PDT. They really should just say "Pacific" if they don't recognize the difference between PDT and PST at a glance.
Although really, the world should just get rid of Daylight Saving Time altogether, and then we wouldn't have this issue! (Especially considering different countries do DST at different times... that's helpful!)
I'd be in favour of keeping Daylight Savings all year around though. -
Quote:I absolutely, positively disagree 100% with all of this.I'd have to say teaming is one of the least interesting aspects of the game. Aside from the usual PUG problem of having to work alongside people I'd usually much rather shoot, the PCs get stupidly overpowered once buffing and debuffing builds start accumulating. Developer tactics to cope with this (rather than just fixing the damn problem) tend to be cheesy and unfun, like Battle Maiden's insta-death attacks.
CoH is one of the few MMOs where it's trivial to get a team, in general the team actually interact and act like a team and teams tend to stick together for a few missions rather than dispersing without a word when the current target is dealt with (waves at WAR).
