Quote:Now you're just being silly...In-game, I usually don't go around commenting on people's characters unless they ask how sets compare to their peers in the first place.
[edit] Or game balance discussions come up.
P.S. Thanks to the efforts of players who believe in game balance over political correctness, stalkers and PBs are much better than they once were.
Do you honestly believe that the recent changes to those two ATs were the result of people like you telling people like me how badly our characters were gimped? Really? Because I'd almost be willing to bet that the changes have a whole lot more to do with those of us who actually PLAY those characters making comments and observations about them here on the forums or in coversations with the devs than from your critiques of other players. -
Quote:At the same time, it's also pretty safe to assume that because of people like yourself, any of us who play those 'sub-par' sets or ATs have ALREADY heard the stalkers-are-gimped/peacebringers-suck/force-field-defenders-are-useless/ninja-are-useless song and dance often enough to find it more annoying than in any way helpful. As someone who plays a fair few of those types of characters, trust me on that one. There's no shortage of people all too willing to tell us how awful our characters are. You really don't need to worry about adding your voice to the chorus.Correction: it's useless to you. It may not be useless to another player - I find this sort of advice useful, so I try to offer it. The way I see it, since you're not interested, you can easily ignore it anyway, and if it comes off as proclaiming superiority that's due to your personal assumptions which I can't do anything about.
Many people enjoy the game without getting involved in the character optimization side of things. I've no intention of trying to change their playstyle or proclaim that mine is superior, unlike those who look down on character optimization. However, I do believe in giving players what I consider accurate information so that they can make decisions for themselves.
Also, as a general thing... don't mistake silence for apathy or anger or any of that. Some of us just don't have the typing speed to both play the game and chat at the same time. When I'm on a team, I tend to believe that my team-mates would prefer for me to be be doing my "job" rather than stopping in the middle of a fight to reply to someone's cheesie jokes. If we're between mobs, I will... if not, I'm going to be more focused on the task at hand. That's not an uncommon thing. -
My favorite MM (Hanano) is ninja/FF, and while she and the boys actually do pretty darn well for themselves considering the set's reputation... certainly better than the Unquiet Bride (necro/thermal) and her zombies do in most cases... I'm still not at all sure I would call ninjas "the best" pet set.
I've seen equally well-equipped, equally Incarnated bots/time, thugs/pain and demons/thermal MMs all tear a hole through things that would absolutely have eaten Han and her guys alive. -
There's some drama occasionally, and there are definitely a few out-sized egos involved, but you sort-of have to go looking for it... or read the forums. Plenty of people on Exalted just go about their business, do their own thing and pretty much ignore it.
I still wouldn't exactly call it a friendly server, but it's not an awful one either. -
For me, it would depend on which group I was playing with and rather it was a "live" game or a PbP.
A home-brew variation of Wushu would be my pick for PbP, since the simplicity and nature of that rule set work well for text-based forum play. (One of the best PbPs I ever took part in was an Exalted port using that system, and Exalts aren't all that far off from supers, in all honesty.)
For a live game? If the people I was playing with were okay with a more complicated rules-set like a lot of others have said, I'd go with Champions. I have very fond memories of my university-era game crew playing that system, and it really can do just about anything with some tinkering and thought.
If the group were new to tabletop RPGs and not so interested in heavy mechanics, I'd pull out my copy of Silver Age Sentinels. GOO's system might not be the most detailed, but it's very easy to teach people in my expereince and reasonably good at getting the job done without getting in the way of people's ideas. -
Quote:For the record, I never said the set should be changed...*shrugs* When the complaint is the set not 'flowing' or feeling choppy/jumpy, I'd say it was a decision of theme as well.
Honestly, what giant weapon would be wielded all smooth and flowing-like? That doesn't sound like rocket hammer or railroad crossing sign at all...
If you love it, fine. To each their own, and have at it.
It isn't required for everyone to think it's the best set ever. I hated the interuptions and the choppiness of the animations. For you that may be a "little roadblock", but for me and a few others it was a deal-breaker... and that's okay. Different preferences and all that. -
Quote:No reason to get grouchy, dude.Thankfully the same advice works for mothership raid gathering, hami raid gathering, or anywhere a bunch of people may get together without turning off their aura's. Less you have a slash command for that stuff as well.
Also, if you didn't notice, I am against the idea, but the noise argument is weak.
For what it's worth, I rarely do MSRs or trials any more and I've always disliked running with large teams. The noise and visual clutter are a big part of why I avoid them. -
Quote:I'm with Steele on this one... My own TW guy only made it to about 20 before I said "no more". I really dislike the disjointed, stop-and-go way the momentum mechanic worked in play.This. I abandoned my TW character at 22. I loathe momentum.
Like others have said, I *know* how dangerous a TW character can be at high levels (FCM's TW scrapper, Principle, is an absolute force of nature-), but it just wasn't the set for me. I like a more continual attack chain that allows one animation to flow well with the next... think Dual Blade (my favorite), Broadsword or Kin Melee... TW was more or less the opposite of that. So much so that I found it unplayable. -
Quote:How about I just use /ah and not worry about it? That way you can leave your auras on and I still don't have to listen to them.I've been paying extra for years. Walkmen, discmen, iPods, etc.
There is always the option of turning down your own volume for a bit, rather than insisting that everyone around shut down their loud annoying powers.
Not trying to single you out, but doesn't it seem more reasonable? Turning the volume down for me is less clicks than shutting my auras down. -
I do have a pair of brutes in the crew, and my WP/SJ in particular has been a lot of fun to play... but I'm just more of a scrapper at heart. I don't like having to chase fury.

Ack! No!
NoNoNoNoNO.
... And for the record my "no" has jack-all to do with the proposed fees.
It has EVERYTHING to do with not having to share space with grunting demons, howling wolves, spiners with damage bursts set to "all-the-time" and the six thousand and six other annoying sound effects you get when a bunch of City players are in the same place at the same time.
It's bad enough we have to deal with that when we're getting a trial or raid group together. I'm all for avoiding it for as much of the rest of my game time as possible. No one should have to pay extra for a little peace and quiet while they're shopping. o_0 -
My wish-list isn't long...
- Return our ability to use wings with the wedding pack tails jacket... We could do that for a long, long time after the pack was released, but the option was removed without explaination or warning earlier this year.
-Likewise, return the ability to use wings along with the bolero coats. When the Magic pack was new, we could do so. (I know. I still have a winged character wearing the Witch version-) That option was removed a few days after the pack went live.
-Give us the Circle of Thorns "mage bits"... The more ornate gloves, the longer kilt piece, the belt and the goofy hat. My semi-reformed Death Mage would be a happy dude. Which is sort-of scary in its own right. o_0
- The ever-begged-for Peacebringer sashes. Please. There's absolutely no good reason for us not to have these after so long. (I'd also add a request for the PPD Awakened Division's tights pattern to that...)
- The Rulushin's "feathery bits". We have no feathery bits in the costume creator, and that's a sad state of affairs for those of us who play bird-things.
... and really, that's about it. 'Like I said, my list is short. -

Quote:It's not so much a matter of not liking the "style", Sam. It's that I don't see what we have now as doing that style much justice... When I look at the Urban Blight zones in CoH, I get what they were going for. I really do, and I have no problem with it. Having Gotham vs. Metropolis contrasts is a-ok in my book. The trouble is that the existing content and art assets in King's are really bad... I'm all fo rmaking it run-down and "gritty". I'd just like to see it done well, in a way that looks more like cities do.You don't like the style. I get it. I still like Kings Row considerably more than new Atlas. I like the darker feel of it, I like the apartment buildings, I like the old factories and so forth. New Atlas looks like I fell over backwards in Praetoria, and for as high as the graphics settings are in that place, I never enjoyed the aesthetic.
Except what I ask isn't taking anything away from you. What you suggest IS taking something away from me - pretty much the last city zone in the game that's yet to be ruined by improvement. I DO NOT WANT to see what happened with Atlas Park happen to Kings Row, because right now, Kings Row is my only alternative to Atlas Park. Take that away and I'm simply going to join the people asking for a "skip to 20" button because you're essentially ruining my early game.
The zone is fine. Add to it if you must, add new contacts, extend its level range, but please stop taking away.
I know you would prefer the game to be so old-school that it might as well have come from Atari, Sam. You're certainly entitled to your opinion... But not all of us want to be stuck in 2004, and some of the things the devs have done to revamp the game really are improvements, rather you see them that way or not. -
Quote:Heh. As usual, I'm pretty much completely on the opposite side of this from Sam. I *like* the new Atlas Park. It's visually a much more interesting zone to get around in since the revamp, and while the content is too limited and does get old once you've seen it a few times, it beats the hell out of what it replaced. I even tend to pick Atlas to run tips on my higher-level characters these days, since I find it more attractive than most of the other choices.I'm completely AGAINST touching Kings Row. It's not that zone that's in a pinch, it's Atlas Park. The new Atlas Park is horrendous and a place I run out of as son as I can, so I can run Kings Row as soon as I can. I'll usually street-sweep until level 5 because the LFG queue does not work, and then ship off to KR to run Scanner missions and get a contact that way. Atlas Park is bad enough, I seriously do not want to lose one of my last few viable options.
I firmly believe that the developers need to stop "fixing" zones that are already just fine and they need to stop removing content I like and replacing it with the kind of stuff that pollutes Atlas Park. If they want to revamp zones, let them revamp hazard zones that have no content in them.
King's Row, on the other hand? It's the only zone in the game I like LESS than Skyway. Aside from being one of the ugliest zones in the game (Sky and Bricks are also way up there on the "drab attempt at urban blight that really doesn't look much like a real city"-scale, but King's is the worst of the lot to my eye-), it's just BORING. The contacts, the missions, the goons... 'Dull as endless brown blocks and dish-water. Like Skyway, I actively avoid taking characters there if I can.
So, have at it I say. Knock down those boring brick boxes and replace them with something that looks more like a bad neighborhood. Give it new content arcs and updated enemies. Having seen Lambda, I know our location artists can do "run down" in a way that looks right. The place doesn't have to be gentrified to get a make-over. -
As others have said... I *do* play Defenders.
I have a Sonic^2, a Force Field/Rad, an Empathy/Rad, a Rad^2, a Dark/Archery and a Dark^2 all at 50+3, as well as an Empathy/DP at 28 and I like them all quite a lot. I also have a 50+3 Dark^2 Corruptor, and he has his moments, too.
I just don't try to solo any of them. XD -
All they would have to do is take one of my favorites away from me... If I ever lost Palrah or Grey Kestrel that would pretty much be the end of the line.
-
I just couldn't come up with a good idea for one, character-wise...
That, and I already have a the cutest little chibi Bane in the entire history of cute and chibi evilness. -
I can't speak for anyone else who used to show up and has skipped out recently... but in my own case, I'm just not playing CoH or looking at the forums as much as I used to. I spend a lot more time over in Aion these days, and since we often play together, that usually means FCM is out of the Liberty loop as well.
I honestly don't know when (or even if-) I'll be around again... but I do wish you luck. Hopefully all you're seeing is the result of everyone's lowbie Staff and Beast characters making their way to 35. -
None of my crew are really "uber-builds"... I can't solo AVs or TFs with them, and the serious min/max types would probably have a good laugh if I ever posted them.
Grey Kestrel is probably as close to a power-build as any of mine come... She's a DB/WP stalker. Completely set IOed, with four regular purple sets, one upgraded ATO set and an assortment of specials and procs in the mix. She's also one of my few Incarnates with across-the-board T4s.
I didn't do most of that with the idea of making her uber. (I'm all too aware that going for "l33t-ness" would have been pointless given the player driving her. I'm just flat-out not coordinated enough to ever play the game well-) I did it mostly to be able to wrap her Adept's summon. Cardinal was supposed to be a constant companion, and the only way to do that was massive Recharge. Which meant purple sets and Gambler specials and improved ATOs and all the rest.
I have no regrets. -
-
My "other game" is Aion.
If I want to be randomly ganked by some jerk who's hopping around spamming insults about how bad a player I am, I'll do it over there. <_< -
If I'm waiting for someone, or burning time before a trial or raid starts, or something like that and I happen to be on one of my defenders, I'll sometimes hang around there just to throw buffs on random lowbies. I like being a "drive-by defender".
-
Quote:Karasu seems to do just fine.I regard emp/* defenders who don't use secondary power sets (when they can) in the same boat.
(She only has four of her Rad attacks, and they're almost completely unslotted... But then I built her to be as close to a "pure defender" as I could. It might be considered somehow gimping her in the name of concept, but it was an intentional choice.)
As for the gremlins, my own Electrical Dom had them for all of a week... 'Tried the things. Respecced Cardinal out of them almost immediately... I found that I absolutely *hated* having to deal with those two brain-dead, hyperactive idiots. They made my job as a control-ish type much harder than it ought to have been, because I found I had to constantly keep a lock on multiple groups as they dashed from mob to mob aggroing every single thing in sight. It was like having two Lady Janes in the group.
So, while I know some people love them and think they're great... I don't blame you at all for giving them the boot. I wouldn't be shy about saying so if given a hard time about it, either. -
The Praetorian version might have been older...
