  1. I love KM! Sadly, I also wish it had alternate animations. Some kicks. I'd love a mixture of KM and MA animations!

Or someone cracks a great IC joke and I have an OOC reaction. Or I hop between other channels. So I settle for Action RP and Light RP or whatever RP I can get.

But I've always had a lot of trouble with RP, and I'm starting to realize why. I have two kinds of characters. The first kind is my namesake and also my tank/brute pair. They are characters with a well developed back story and they're very static. The way I see it, they've done their maturing and they are who they are. I have a story to tell if someone were to ask, but mostly they sit back and react to the things around them. I get to be a part of your story, but most times I feel like an extra or just the audience. It starts to feel a lot less fulfilling, and I have this desire to share my own story. But I know my story has no room for interaction, as it's just a history I've already written. I don't want to put someone through what I feel as the audience.

I have another character who is completely open ended. I love the character; I love how he interacts with others. But I'm afraid he's too demanding. He's an attention hog, and the story is all about him dealing with his demons, so I actually end up feeling guilty when I try to get people involved.

I'm sitting at two extremes, and I'm not sure what to do.

    ...

I also don't know where this came from or why this topic triggered my wall of text. But I typed it up, so damned if I'm not going to hit the Post Quick Reply now.
I'd say that's the usual RPer Dechs

All you have to do really is realize it's okay to be attention hog at some points and the audience at others.

Which is of course easier to say than do, as people tend to want to be the big hero/name/what have you, of the scene.
  3. Enjoyed the first. And the trailer for the second looks like another good time to be had!
  4. OMG OMG OMG!

My nephew's middle name is Akira too!

    Okay, that is all.
  5. Next time, tell the team to hold on and go to the AH, and buy some Envenomed Daggers

Doesn't sound like survival was the problem. And that little dagger would of helped your team alot

Same with Redside. There's plenty of heroing to be done over there. Honestly, a 'Nation' that blocks all "Good People" from even entering is as ludicrous as it sounds. A better approach is that it's a corrupt government who minions (ie Arachnos mobs) attempt to arrest/remove those who might distabilize the regime (ie. Heroes and Vigilantes). Truly that's just fluff anyway - Arachnos already attack everyone on sight, Villains included.

One could argue that it's not realistic to allow Villains and Heroes to walk around side by side and not fight each other. How is that much different that my Vigilante joining a bunch of Villains (whom he normally bashes) on a ST to defeat the Freedom Phalanx?

One open world - then all this talk of redside/blueside populations would go away, as it should.
I had an alt version of my main in Redside, using the notion that Recluse saw her as a Destined One, and so he allowed her access to the Isles under the the guise of allowing her to play the part of the hero in the Isles, but wanting to try to corrupt her.

It works imo, due to you doing exactly what one would do blueside, taking on villains.

There's a few mechanic problems, like the Longbow attacking. But that's the same problem as someone mentioned in an earlier post with the Longbow attacking Hellions who happened to be loitering.

Nevermind they couldn't see it that oh hey, that Hellion is a wanted criminal maybe?

Or a limit to the game engine. The NPC probably doesn't notice the difference between loitering and car jacking/purse snatching/breaking and entering. It's flagged as "attack these enemies"

Which is of course better than everyone going with the "Longbow/PPD are ineffective, because I'm always rescuing them" that the game started with (well at least with the PPD), witht he PPD cowering before every enemy.

Depending on how well F2P works for getting more people into CoH, I still think you'll see an increase in red side activity. Even if it's not a lot of new players, 10% of 1000 new F2P players, is 100 people running around redside!

*note: 1000 new players may or may not be wishful thinking...depending on advertising of F2P, I can picture the rush of that many at least however*

Ill put it this way, Ive pulled bad teams out and got TF's finnished with my Dom or Def, when a team starts to go bad with my blaster, I just fold it early and dont bother.

    All subjective but true.

Removing nuke crashes is probably a good start though.
Now see, that could be your problem!

You're playing a ST oriented Primary with a Control Heavy Secondary, and one of those controls is a SLEEP!

You just picked one of those combos.

No different than me picking DB/WP Scrapper, and watching /ELM, SH/, FA/ or whatever have you combos of Tankers putting my scrapper to shame when it comes to taking out enemies.
  8. I'd get rid of Group Invis. Possibly give Superior Invis a splash effect to invis the team.

Then I'd replace Group Invis with a single target fear power, that has a chance to hold and if the hold is successful, they recieve DoT damage as they claw away at themselves.

I suppose they could have replaced it with a recolored Gravity AoE Immob.. but thats a disservice and they obviously don't want to go that route.
    So...Spirit Tree isn't a group buff power?

As you can tell I detest (Lore of the Game is Law) RP. This game was designed for us to tell our own stories and I love telling and participating in everything this community comes up with.
Now see, I'm on the other side of this.

I hate it when people come up and totally ignore Lore. Yup, the game was designed to tell our stories, but when in a mass group RP setting (so not closed setting amongst a certain group) then seeing Lore breakers tends to just not make sense with those who stick with it.

All of a sudden the Lore breaker is Statesman's son, has killed Countess Crey, is having a love affair with Numina, then to find out they're Ghost Widow's mother's brother's uncle's collage roommate's bestfriend.

    ...

Okay, that last one isn't that bad.

    To the OP...

I like Action RP, however I tend to not always go around in teams RPing. It really depends on the team. My main for instance will work with villains towards common goals, but why would she not just turn around and beat the senses out of that sniveling psycho who likes to kill civvies and send him to jail?

There's a difference between working with Catwoman and working with Psycho Bob, the psychopathic soul sucking murderer.

Then there's the difference between teams. Harder to RP imo, when the team is steamrolling missions.

I'd never call hanging out in Pocket D immersive RP, unless you're RPing a clubber/raver/lounge lizard/what have you. It's a club. Really, who goes out clubbing every night? Especially if they're at all a working Hero or Villain. Do their plans suddenly get put on hold at 6 oclock?

So if that's considered immersive RP, I'm not an immersive RPer.

In the end I'd say I'm all those depending on my mood.

People were saying solo. So I came up with a solo option. That is all.

As for the wish to feel like a god...haveing to run any content that requires you to team up to beat up one badguy, I don't know how that makes you feel like a god.

"I have unlimited power!" >_> "Oh ummm, hey, I need help beating up this AV, I can't handle him on my own."

Yeah, you could lower it to EB, but even then, tend to need to build for it. And how does that make one feel like a god?

Simply letting people approach a team task alone is not a solution. Claiming that task is as difficult as a team task is false on its face. Because you're doing it alone, possibly with a not very solo-capable AT, it is monumentally harder.
Not at all. I'm trying to keep it extremely difficult while still possible if they build for it.

You think those trials can be done solo? Hmmm...maaaaybe...but they can't be started solo, and this gives the solo path a way to get all those rewards, while keeping it at equally difficult content.

You're an Incarnate, it gets tougher.

And notice how I said they earn threads for taking out enemies in the mission. Use those threads to get the incarnate slots, objects to obtain Astrals in the mission, and thusly unlock all the Astral Merit goodies.

I truely think that makes it soloable content, while keeping it to equal level of difficulty.

Just because it's soloable doesn't mean it's easy to solo for everyone. Just like normal PvE content before incarnate levels.

If they wanted to date girls, then they'd get the other comment.
  15. I was thinking about this, and I thought of a fun way to do this solo...

Solo Player mission, like they did with Morality missions, that has +4 enemies that drop shards, and you have to face off against an AV (no downgrading to EB) and if you beat it, you get an EMP Merit, and if you clear the objectives, Astral Merits.

Make it repeatable, but can only get 1 EMP Merit once every 20 hours, just like the trials.

Keeps it equally difficult to the trials, while allow people to repeat it to earn threads.

It also cuts both ways, it used to be that you would get those kind of invites from a team leader, and when you got to the team you'd find the all poorly built melee team for reichsman, the all resistance/heal stf.
Maybe, but I say that to the first person as well. Really, I have yet to see a TF that couldn't be done with any combination of ATs, as long as the person knows how to play their toon, and slotted.

As others have pointed out, every AT in the game is superfluous. ATs have different styles but overlap all over the place. Enjoy the ride and play what you want, most MMOs are not like this.
When I get asked "What AT do you need" when people send me a tell to join a TF I'm forming, my answer is always the same..."Whatever AT you'll have more fun bringing. "

It doesn't. But people like to say Natural Build for those normal human heroes they make.
  23. First two missions went quickly. Ran to targets (Sybils in first and Cysts in second) and cleared them.

Third mission, obviously slowed down a bit, but cleared it fast enough.

Fourth and final mission...cleared the 300! \o/ No inspirations, no temp powers...

    ONCE
    TWICE
    CRASHED

    DAMMIT! NOOOO!

    Clear the 300 AGAIN!

    Rommie goes down...

    ONCE
    TWICE
*now I'm nervous...i20.5 has been crash happy with me*
    THREE TIMES!

    \o/

On the second time through however, I did use red inspirations. First time through, I did it without inspiration use. Second time through on the 1st and 2nd times, I used half a tray of reds then the other half, and brought out my Lore Pets (tier 3 Polar Lights).

Pets were gone and inspirations worn off before I got him down on his last rez. And just dealt with his healing nictus (which doesnt seem to heal him that frequently with just one target in range) healing him, and powered on through.

Great and useful? Matter of opinion, like anything else.

What I do tend to notice, is KB is more useful than -Def! -Def has one use, slotting a -Resist Proc

I think we'll continue to see more people playing the role of superhero over supervillain.
