    Loot Filter?

Generally speaking, I will go to my salvage/recipes before a TF and trash or vend what I don't want/need. Before a TF, I also sort my salvage by amount descending.

If, in the middle of a task I notice one of them is red, I will wait for a lull in action (between missions, if someone is stealthing, between spawns, etc) I will quickly open my salvage, right click and hit "s" to delete the stack of 9 Kinetic Weapons, 7 Rubies and 5 Hydraulic Pistons. If I happened to need one, I would likely get a bid of 5 inf to fill relatively quickly.

The same goes for recipes, though I tend to put higher priority on monitoring them. I'll quickly delete the temp powers and low-value IOs during a pause in action.

It literally takes seconds to do it.

    SG is calling!

I don't think it's that the SGs demand players leave what they're doing... it's that some people prefer playing with their SG mates... probably.

That said, I have been on teams and had a member say "Oh, gotta go... SG night.. sorry!" and they quit. Only to see that there are still other members of the SG on the team.

I have also been on more than one team where a member says "gotta go! SG Calling!" only for them to go into broadcast moments later looking for a team. Once, a member did that, and our team leader picked him back up, and the guy didn't notice it was the same team.

None of the teams were particularly bad, either.
  4. Hi folks - I have two Glad Armor Procs (crafted) for sale.

One at level 50 (asking 2 bill)
One at level 10 (asking 2.25 bill)

Contact me in-game @Bramphousian or via PM here on the forums

    Thanks!
  5. I like storytelling and comedy podcasts, myself.

    I listen to:
Comedy Bang-Bang (formerly Comedy Death Ray)
    - My favourite, bar-none. It features comedian guests (and musical ones - notably Ted Leo and Aimee Mann), they talk, interview, perform skits, etc. I laugh a lot listening to this, which gets me odd stares as I commute at times. Hosted by Scott Aukerman (Mr. Show) Free, updated weekly. NSFW.

    This American Life
    - Storytelling with a range of subjects. Free, updated weekly, but you have to pay for back-episodes. Hosted by Ira Glass. SFW

    Risk!
    - Storytelling. Celebrities/regular people are given a subject and they tell a story about it. Hosted by Kevin Allison from comedy troupe The State. NSFW

    The Moth Podcast
    - People tell stories onstage, without notes. Usually pretty good. Free, updated mostly weekly. Sometimes NSFW.

    WTF? with Marc Maron
    - Interviews with comedians. More formal than Comedy Death Ray. Free, updated every few days. NSFW.

    Stuff You Should Know
    - Chuck and Josh are the hosts, they chat and talk about how things work, facts and the history of things. Free, updated every few days. SFW.

Subscribed, but haven't yet listened to:
The Pod F. Tompkast (Paul F. Tompkins)
You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes

    Edit: added descriptions!

I can confirm this. I just logged into my premium account which had a level 32 character on it prior to Freedom. MM's/Controllers are locked out, but I have retained access to H/V EATs.

You never could "stack" gametime from the same edition, to my knowledge.
  8. It's now the PPD "Not all heroes wear Spandex and a cape" billboard.
  9. I use both "character" and "toon".

When I first started, someone saw me in the tutorial and was sort of giving me pointers about the game, terms, etc. I had never played an MMO, or any online game, for that matter. She referred to my character as a "toon", and so, I guess I saw it as the accepted nomenclature, and it stuck with me.

I agree with people mentioning the utility in-game. I don't think it's necessarily about laziness, so much as it is about speed of delivery. Doctor Roswell, you appear to take issue with the convenience as much as it being incorrect terminology. I wonder if you ever use "inf" instead of "influence"/"infamy"/"information"; "Posi" instead of "Positron"; "AV" in place of "Archvillain"; "Alt" instead of "alternative character"

That said, I don't like people using text-speak/chat-speak, what have you, outside of this game. If you're typing out an e-mail, or a message board post, chances are, you can use the real words with no detriment. My boss does it in e-mails and text messages, and it just grates me. "U" and "ur" bother me to no end. As do "c" for "see", "y?" for "why?" "b/c" for "because", etc. In-game or out-of-game.

I suppose it's hypocritical of me not to be bothered by game-related shorthand, but to be bothered by, er, "standard" online shorthand. If someone were to say "switching for Manti", I'd be okay with it; but if someone were to type "switching 4 Manti", I'd be bothered.

Bring up you map (press "M"). You can resize it by hovering around the edge, and the resize cursor comes up. Click and drag.

You can move it as well. Looking at the example posted, on the lower section of the map, left side, there is that dark circle. I believe by default, it is filled in, making it static to the nav-bar. If you click uncheck it (as in the example), and you can click and drag to the desired location.

It advised the attempt failed, but as a safeguard, they disabled her account and I believe told her to log in at a familiar location and change her password, or reply to the email confirming she is in Indonesia.

As well, she received a similar email when she was visiting her mom in Pennsylvania. It said something about being logged in, in Ontario and her logging in in PA was unusual, so they did the same.

Your following paragraph makes it clear that human rights laws should be observed, so why even post the above?

    Quote:
Obviously CoH/NCsoft would remove all sites that don't adhere to human rights, anti-slavery, and ID theft laws. BUT, this would require the companies being caught. If they aren't caught we can't assume they're guilty or we are breaking our constitution, innocent till proven guilty.
The problem with that is that it requires investigation and cooperation. I can't say that all, or even most, of the companies utilize forced labour. I don't know that, nor do I assume that. There have been many tales of people's identities being stolen, accounts compromised, etc. from such services, and that's enough for me, for many gamers to steer away from them. As such, allegations of users identities being stolen should be enough for NC to not want to allow them to advertise their services.

    Quote:
As far as the, agreement CoH/NCsoft has, they reserve the right to change it. If changing it so the "companies" can be recognized and funneled into one chat can improve some gamers expirience, then that would be a good thing.
Of course, NC could terminate or revise any aspect of their agreement. But you mentioned a "fix" in your previous post, allowing them to select "Yes, I am a Gold-Trading Site" on account creation, giving them access to an advertising channel. This allows other players to close that channel down and ignore it completely.

So, no one is reading these messages. Why would the companies select "yes" on account creation? What is in place to prevent them from selecting "no", and continuing to spam broadcast/local/help? We are back to square one.

    Quote:
I still think it would be better for them to recognize: this is an aspect of the company we can't remove. So, we opted to allow it, so we could keep track of it. If all the game companies did this, the owners of legitimate honest companies (not performing identity theft, and not being caught inslaving people) would actually be able to be honest about who they are, and set up accounts as such.
So, they've heard that a company engages in criminal behaviour. No one is prosecuted, because, really, try to get a foreign government to comply with American law. What do they do now? Ban an account? A new one is created. Ban an IP? Use a proxy.

I just can't see there being any honest, hard-working powerleveling/gold-farming companies out there. I don't know if the practice is, in fact illegal (I would doubt it), but opening the game up to allow such behaviour would be a bad thing.

All users, could in theory, register a website and offer their services. Paypal me $15 and a billion inf could be yours! I'll even throw in 3 Hamidon Goo and a Mu Vestment. I could spam Brampy-Sells-Gold.com and you could be TwigmansGoldMine.net, and we could have Arcanavillegoldfarminginc.com and FulmensFarms.ca, and instead of 1-2 companies spamming 1-2 messages, we could have a thousand people spamming a thousand companies.

Then they ask all new accounts if they are a "gold" trading site. If they answer yes, they are allowed a F2P account with a limit to only one chat (advertising chat) and the ability to RESPOND to a tells. The advertising chat is so they won't post on all the other chats. those that are interested and would purchase "gold" can go there, all the rest can remove that chat from the list.

If CoH and other MMOs used -embrasing trade- they would keep and keep happy all players.
These are not humble, small business owners. These are, in several cases, companies that steal users' personal information. There was an article some time ago about how they employ slave-labour for their gold-farming.

I don't think that Paragon Studios and NC want to promote forced-labour, identity theft and other such criminal acts.

    Quote:
Side note: They work for the "gold" they sell too. I don't see why they can't sell it. I could sell my account (should I choose too). CoH sells enhancments ("gold" is used for) for $, why can't those sites sell "gold" for $ too.
No, you can't. From the Rules of Conduct:
    • 8. You may not market, promote, advertise, or solicit within the City of Heroes, City of Villains, or Going Rogue game or on the official City of Heroes website.
    • 10. You may not advertise the intent to or commit the act of buying, selling, trading, sharing, or transferring access to any City of Heroes, City of Villains, or Going Rogue account.
    • 11. You may not advertise the intent to or commit the act of buying or selling items for cash or trading items from one server to another.

    From the User Agreement:

    Section 2:
(iv) sell, sub-license, rent, lease, grant a security interest in, borrow, lend, loan, network or engage in any activity that could in any way transfer or provide others access to any Service, Content, Software, or parts thereof, including but not limited to any serial code number, access key or the like.

If I am understanding this correctly, this would ban ANY message containing ".com" or "dot com" automatically. Any website posted would ban a user.

    This could be problematic.

Almost every time I am in game, I will see a message containing a website. If a player is asking for information, quite often another player will copy/paste the URL to a Paragon Wiki article, or a forum post. Looking at the channels I am a member of right now, five of the MOTDs contain URLs.

You mentioned banning a F2P account for it, but as evidenced by some people, even Exalted is seeing these messages, albeit fewer.

One of the Global Channels I am in uses a URL shortener.... so it is goo.gl/whatever. RMT sites would just start using these services as well.

You said that the command would notice and take into account spacing, so for instance, "www.website. com" would be caught. Would the following?: "Hi Bramphousian. Come to Cimerora" ? It isn't an ad, it is conversation that happens to have a letter sequence that would get caught by the proposed filter.

In theory, a filter system is a good idea, but as you have proposed it, too many innocent and helpful items could get caught in it inadvertently.
  17. I understand that with opening up the boards means more posts, more likelihood of spam, and thus, increased workload on the community reps. I get that.

That said, I do think that there should be more forum access to the free players. Yes, I pay my monthly access and as such, I should be entitled to more than a free player. I get that with my market access, larger influence cap, inventions access, AE access, all archetypes, VIP sets, incarnate access, tells, in-game email, chat-freedom... you know... things pertinent to the game itself. I don't particularly see the forum as being much incentive to stay as a subscriber. But that's just me.

A couple of my nieces are really into the Hunger Games books. They had it on their Christmas lists. One of the staffers at a local book store tells me they're really popular with teen girls at the moment. No idea what the content is, nor do I care, so long as it keeps kids reading.
  22. I hope that sales of the product aren't hindered too much due to this guy's ineptitude.

As was mentioned in some of the articles on the subject, people are downvoting the item on Amazon and the like, and it will undoubtedly hurt the product's sales because of an idiot third-party marketing rep.

When you hit level 6, instead of an even level pet, you get two pets -1 to your level. At 18, you get three at -2 to your level. Maybe you hadn't noticed this, as you are now 23?

The same will happen to your second-tier pets at, I believe, level 24.
