Going Rogue and Premium Players

So in my quest to recruit new players, one asked me yesterday: "What happens if I just buy Going Rogue? It's $15 at [some random store]. Will that unlock Praetoria and the Alignment system for me, even though I'm still a Premium?"

Honestly, I didn't know how to answer. The discrepancies between what you buy and what you get just confuse me--and as a VIP I can't test this out.

Can anyone help me help my friends?

Thanks!

My understanding is that as a Premium player if there is a Going Rogue code attached to your account from a past purchase then you gain access to Praetoria & Alignments, this should still be the case with GR codes applied now.

There is also the VIP Starter Kit in the NCSoft store. It's $15 and gives you Going Rogue + a month VIP. However it says Free Accounts only. But retail codes should still work.

That also give a 30-day subscription, right? I'm afraid that after the 30 days, if they don't sub, they'll lose everything that any other non-"vested" Premium does not get.

See, that's what I'm asking about.

So if they buy Going Rogue and stay Premium, they only get Praetoria and the Alignment System for 30 days?

No. If they buy the store version of Going Rogue, it's the same as buying that in the Paragon Market. You should keep that forever.

This is giving me a headache. And, of course, being a Premium they can't ask on their own. So the answer is, "Indeterminate?"

Wasn't that the same answer I got the last time I asked a Market question about GR, Praetoria, and the Alignment system? This isn't really inciting people to play... :/

No they would keep access to it.

Plus Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning*, Kinetic Melee and Electric Control powersets and the costumes that came with GR.

Keep in mind that all of those things bought separately would cost way more than $15 in points.

*Would require masterminds access. Void where prohibited. Do not operate heavy machinery while on Demon Summoning.

Cool. Good to have a solid answer for DumpleBerry. I have to agree with the overall feeling of not having a clue what is right or wrong in these cases, though.

The ONLY thing they (probably, based on something said by a dev elsewhere) won't get is the 2 bonus character slots.

And, as mentioned, permanent access to Masterminds and Controllers. So the two sets (Demon Summoning and Electric Control, right?) wouldn't be accessible afterwards.

Dominators get Electric Control too.

My premium account has GR:Complete, so I can answer this with 100% certainty.

If you find a retail copy of Going Rogue and apply it to your account, you will get the following:
  • ZERO FREE CHARACTER SLOTS (The retail code had to be applied before Sept 13 to qualify for the free slots.)

  • One month of VIP access. *

Of course if he wants to use Demon Summoning after the free month of VIP access, he has to somehow unlock MMs (subscribing, buying an unlock, or getting enough Paragon Reward Tokens). The Electric Control set is available on Dominators, but if he wants to use it on a Controller, he'll have to unlock those too (same restrictions as Master Minds).

Edit:
* +400 PP, Possibly 2 Reward Tokens: +1 for month's access, another possible +1 for owning a retail code.

Does anyone know a good location to purchase GR for less than $29? I'd like to add it for my wife's account if I can find it cheaper. Feel free to PM me if you would prefer to answer that way.

$11

Do not, however, get a used one. If it says "played once" or "used" or "opened" then the code has been used, and you get nothing. I see a few listed there as new for $7, so add S&H and that might be $11 total to you, a very good deal.

Special Note: If you already HAVE a Going Rogue code applied to your account, you will NOT be allowed to apply another one just for the game time anymore, and it will take Customer Service almost three weeks to tell you that they can't do anything for you. Thrifty Gamers Beware.

You never could "stack" gametime from the same edition, to my knowledge.

Thank you, Champion.

This is correct. Since CoH first launched in 2004 you could never use two codes of the same game type/version.

They will get after no longer being VIP....The alignment system, access to preatoria, access to kinetic combat....access to first ward(as it seams its part of preatoria).
Sorry i am not sure about pistols....i have to check that.

They will not have access to controllers or masterminds anymore...unless they have reached that reward token level....however if they do unlock masterminds...they will automaticaly have access to demon summoning...and wont have to buy that power set separtely becasue they had gotten the Going Rogue boxed set.

Hmm...lets see....a few strange things....they will be made to have two global character slots that they have to choose to unlock on either a character or on a server empty slot......if they happen(ed) to use tokens(even one works) they will get a third global character slot.....i think this is just some bonus thing....noticed with a standard free account this doesnt happen.

Hmm i dont think i have missed anything.

I know this due to having a second account with the going rogue attached to it......and i let it go to free to play.

Oh one other thing....while they are dong their 30 day trial you might want to make sure to get them into global channels and super groups.....becasue if they do not have the tokens spent to reach the correct tier....they wont have access to that stuff and you wont be able to invite them.......but if they are already there....they will have access.

Again this is based on actualy having a second account...so i know this from experience.

Your friends will not lose anything they purchase in the paragon market....with exception to possibly two things......and these are a bit tough to do....

One is the permanent temp powers....the fliying board is an example of this...if they purchased that power....they will egt it on all characters.....but if they decide to erase allt heir characters...leaving none.....then the power will vanish and not appear on any new characters.

The other thing....if they managed to purchase the vip costume items(the the incarnate outfits)......they will keep the costumes.....when they go to free to play...but the tokens will vanish out of the slots for them when they look at the token screen....and if they go back to being a VIP member they will still have the slots empty...not exactly sure what that means.....probably wont matter to your friends either.

They gain access to all the Going Rogue powersets - this is Kinetic melee, Electric Control, Demon Summoning, and Dual Pistols.

And you seem to be confusing Ascension (Incarnate outfit) with Celestial (T9 VIP outfit)
