When I said Do not but "that" from Dell. You must have heard me say Do not buy "ANYTHING EVER" from Dell.

Depending on the item , the deal price, and what you want Dell is a fine source for cheap moderately performing computers. i ran the city on a mid-line Dell (not well, but ran) with only a RAM upgrade.

But I stand by the statement not to buy high end rigs from Dell. You (seem?) to agree with me on that all the while saying you do not agree with me. "Texas Justice" seemed to agree with that at the end of his first response, after telling me I was full of Horse Hockey and attempting to belittle and mischaracterize my opinion. A number of other people in the thread seem to agree thatyou probably should not buy a high end rig from Dell, and yet seem to think they need to tell me how they do not agree with me.

I am simply pointing out a majority of posters agree not to buy a $2,500.00 rig for gaming at Dell. You agree with that? But you want to be clear that you disagree with me? yeah, this thread is hilarious. Thank you.
  2. To make best use out of Blaster raised HP Caps we need access to Tanker primaries as our secondaries. I mean, if you raise Blaster HP Caps do it for a good reason. Like me finally getting my TANK-MAGE. And do not take "TANK-MAGE" or any variation of it, I want then for my characters name.
  3. Yes, there is a limit. No, you cannot. Generally when planning high end builds people pick one or two things to shoot for, and sometimes achieve that, sometimes not but get "close enough". There are not enough power picks, enhancer slots, or powerful enough enhancers to do what you are asking.
  4. Interesting graph. It really shows the split at E. two things, I wonder how representative this is in game? and it throws a confirm to what I have suspected for very long. It's all a Nemesis plot. No wait, I mean we have a two tier group in the cities. Some folks got squat and some folks got lots. The trough at E really makes me wonder if this is something the Devs would find useful for planning.
  5. Does anyone know where to get information on color picks that match original set color animation? It would make it soooo much easier when I try to do something like take the alternate Dark Blast animation, but then want it to blend seamlessly with the rest of the very great Dark Blast set.
  6. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks.
  7. Used to see people going up really high buildings then jumping off them. Still not sure why it was amusing but it was a somewhat regular occurence. Haven't seen it for a while now. Mostly in Port Oakes for some reason. Guess the building were pretty high and accessible to low level characters.

I've even enlarged the font of one line in your post above that is the very point they are refudiating, so you've again said the very thing they are replying to. How are they saying things that you claim you didn't say?

Even when Aggelakis paraphrased your comment, it was still using several of the words and phrases you used. Here's Aggelakis' paraphrase as she posted it:

Was that a valid paraphrase? Well, let's look at your post again since you seem to have forgotten what you said.

I enlarged your words so you can see them easier. So how far off was Aggelakis' paraphrase to your exact words? We'll break it down into small pieces to make it easy for you to see.

"Dell is terrible" seems to be a valid interpretation of that last paragraph, especially the two sentences I enlarged the font on.

"don't buy Dell" seems to be fairly close to being word for word on the first sentence I enlarged and also seems to be a reasonable interpretation of the last sentence of your post.

Even though some of them didn't quote you, I notice that some other posters don't share your opinion of Dell. While not a ringing endorsement of Dell, their comments certainly don't make the claim that Dell is known for making substandard gaming rigs.

    Father Xmas said:

    Bill Z Bubba said:

Just in case you weren't aware of it, the XPS is the Dell system.

Father Xmas and Bill Z Bubba are two well respected tech oriented people here on the forums.

Hyperstrike is very knowledgeable about tech issues, as are half a dozen or more people I can think of just off the top of my head. Hyperstrike said this about Dell:

Of course, the system that he then recommends would cost about the same if getting an XPS system and selecting the options that make it a gaming system. I think I could come close on the pricing with an XPS system to what he priced from iBuyPower using similar or the same components. But I'd have to sit and play on the Dell site for a bit to know for certain what the price would be.

Ironblade, Chad Gulzow-Man and Aggelakis are all respected posters on the forum and I've seen nothing in their posts that indicates they didn't read or understand exactly what you said.

Psychic Guardian is the only one I can see that has made a post disagreeing with Chad's assessment of Dell's customer support, which was not something you brought up, based on their own experiences.

I've not had the same experience they did when I called Dell's Technical Support line, but they are least giving the basis for their comment.

As for my qualifications about technical issues? Well, I'm also employed as a computer tech. I work with Dell computers daily and have few hardware issues with them. I work with a few HP systems and several systems built by our techs over the years. We switched back to Dell systems for the reliability and excellent support we are getting, including next day parts when the computers are under warranty. It's still fast service when they are out of warranty and we need parts, but not next day service.

Personally, I own two Dell computers and have recommended several Dell systems to friends and co-workers. My 10 year old Dell laptop is still running strong and the only things I've done to it were upgrades of my own choosing, such as going to a bigger hard drive and a faster wireless card. It won't run City of Heroes with all the pretty graphics like my desktop does, but that's more to do with the graphics updates that came in Issue 17 and the lack of driver support for that old of a mobile video chipset. For everything I use it for, it's still a perfectly fine system. When it ceases to handle what I need it to do, I'll likely buy another Dell.

I've not had one bad experience with any of the Dell's I've bought or that I've recommended to others. Most of the problems I've run into were either a software issue that had nothing to do with Dell or were resolved with a simple driver update, again, not something specifically to do with Dell.

But I guess since I quoted you in this post I'm one of the ones that's saying something you never said about Dell.

let me paraphrase that "WALL OF TEXT I WIN"

I just hope the OP can read between this to get some of the good computer advice. Or would any of you people like to stop now, and explain to the OP why they should spend over $2,500.00 for a very nice high quality best for the money purchase from Dell. Let me guess. No.
  9. I am actually trying a few different powersets now to further my project. AR/energy was one of the first suggestions, by a very clever player. So, i parked the Dark/Nrg at 34 and currently have an AR/Nrg at 23. I plan on trying approx 5 different groups of suggested powersets for range. This will allow me to determine which "far range" options I really enjoy, if redraw bothers me, if sonic bothers me. If I "love" something I thought I did not. Who knows, maybe I'm just a great Blaster player now?!? ...ya, no, lol. But the one I like the most is the one I will I/O out for ranged defense and play. It will become my "Blaster Main' and then I'll probably move onto the Dark and Grav Doms when i22 drops.
  10. I roll with a few groups of players that have really really high end PvE characters. Guess what? They really like the game, like their alts, and do a lot of low-mid level task forces for badges, etc.

So, yeah, maybe especially with people who can run +4/x8 content you will see them happily running mid level characters as well. YMMV
  11. I posted upthread about how I delete 50s. It is very methodical.

But reading some of the replies made me think of the best re-use I have made for a character. I used to play a lot on Freedom, now I am on Virtue a lot. I have one character concept that I have transposed a few times into the city. He is a Vampire, from our tabletop Vamp the Perp. hassle campaign. I have him 50'd as a BS/regen Scrap. My Wife started playing, and i decided a needed a Brute to run with a Blaster she has. I did a free server transfer of a Egyptian themed Dark/Invul Brute 46th level from Freedom to Virtue. Got a rename free with that. Then I popped over to the tailor and used the saved costume. Viola! New high level character with a build I enjoy.
  12. Heh, I stopped leading teams about a year in to the game. Before that I led everything, everytime I could. But I had a character concept that sorta called for it. And now I will not lol.

But 13 times is too much? lol. DFB is a cakewalk. Now, you should see me grind the BAF and Lambda some weks/weekends. Even I will say that is excessive. I know the Lambda acid route so well I have specific points noted to eat insp and hit Judgement for most efficiency.
  13. Half-cocked is more like it. From all of the "You didn't read my yada yada yada"

Well, You did not read My orig post.

I never said the things any of you are saying I said about Dell.

what I DID ssay is Dell is one of the worst places to buy a gaming computer. Without giving any backup or reasons.

that seems to be the gist of this entire thread from everyone who does have reasons.

just get tired of "Texas Justice" "Don't call me Tex" shooting off the only thing he can, his half-cocked mouth.

And mine was based on me knowing quite a bit about computers, mostly since I make my living as a computer tech. You admitted in your own post that you know very little of computers.

My opinion of the Alienware being overpriced had nothing at all to do with it being owned by Dell since I had that opinion long before Dell bought them.

Those were points I already made in the previous post.

I didn't realize your reading comprehension was poor enough that I'd have to make the same points again for you.

Maybe this time you'll understand the points being made.
ROFLMAO. Thats great. So in Texas If you take 25 minutes to agree with someone everybody sorta forgets what anybody was talking about. Really explains the Texas drawl. Thanks for the real world example.
  15. Then having a parent or family member log into your account from your home comp may be your only solution. (easy solution)

Contacting your bank and seeing what they can do for travelers is also an option, but I would not count on anything happening quickly. If there is a good solution they have set up for travellers it will probably still take a week or two.

another option may be going to a bank in that country, and setting up a account with an ATM card attached. (Preferably issued same day) good luck.

i have never used gamecards. However, if they function there is a good chance your problem is solved. Buy some with your credit card from a on-line store (Wal-Mart, Gamestop, wherever) and have them quick shipped to you.

If you cannot buy stuff on-line with your credit card anywhere you really need to talk to your bank directly.

That was sure a lot of "I Hate Blue and his opinions" to wade thru to get to "I agree with Blue."

    Stop him !!

Someone is posting in player help that they want to buy $2,500.00 gaming rig from Dell. Can someone run over there with any advice?
  19. I know very little about computers, even though I have had numerous comp college courses, worked using them as my primary tool for decades, and had one of the 1st IBM PCs.

  20. A funny thing happened in the sewers last night. I'm leveling a new Blaster, and I always do 1-22 in sewage. So, was on the 13th run of the night or so. The leader asked if anyone wanted the badge for Cadaver Counter. No replies. Then peeps said no. We get to the boss battle and I unload. Being squishy it is just easier for me if the cadavers go away, and with 2 decent AoEs I can make them go away. Ach, someone had posted they wanted the badge. I missed it. Felt bad.

So, next run I promised to get that badge for the team, and specifically that person. We load in. i take a little time at the front to explain my tactic. Oh, it was late, small team of 6.

"At the cadaver boss I will be pulling. Please stay at the top of the hill at the last mob. I will pull the boss up the hill. The AV is much faster than the cadavers." Peeps made fun that I had posted to early, scred it up. But it seemed like the team got the concept. We proceed on. Right before that last mob I again post my strategy. We start o the last mob, at about half way thru I zip on down. Now it took like a minute to kill the 11th. I just figured runner. The AV spawned. I shot it, ran. I turned at tunnel mouth and shot again, and the thing was coming fast. I zip up the hill. The team is all right at the lip, and I am thinking, "too close", and run past them. I get all the way to the tunnel mouth other end (I like my range!) and turn. The AV is coming right for me. The team hasn't moved. Not a single attack. I take a shot. The person that wants the badge starts attacking, and yelling for the team to attack. I don't know if the whole team was AFK, or just oblivious. They started attacking pretty fast then. They posted after that they didnt notice the AV run past them.

So,I cannot stop laughing. I do this whole grand tactic and an AV runs right past my team without them noticing. Priceless.
  21. I struggle with Blasters, but I have learned why. My expectations did not match the actual archtype. Blasters are written from the ground up as Blappers. Almost all the powersets have close range powers, sometimes signature/key/best power in the set. So, if you take Mental secondary, you want Drain Psyche, which means you will be looking at close contact to a LOT of mobs to saturate it. And dozens of other examples. But basically unless you consciously set up your entire build/strategy for ranged combat of 50+ then start buying S/L Defense. If you are looking for Ranged there are some decent options, but you wall yourself off from about 80% of modern blaster strategy.
  22. I am a bit of an artist. Here is the "trick" to drawing feet. Or really anything. Do not "draw feet." Take a few colored pencils. A good eraser, and a smudging tool. Have a friend with a few minutes prop up a foot on a pillow while they read/have tea. Now. DO NOT draw the foot. Pick the 3 largest areas of the item you are looking at (in this case a foot) and quickly and lightly color in those values in the correct physical relationship to one another. There will be a lot of white space, its cool. Use the eraser to better shape the areas. Now, repeat. Now start very lightly coloring a few connecting areas between the three shapes. Big Shadows? Glowing bright areas? Concentrate on Value and positional relationship. Add a few details. Done. Seriously, dont overdraw it. The human mind looking at it will pick out a foot. If you try for photographic realism you are doing yourself no favors.
  23. I do not know the "scientific" in-game answer. But it is acting just like all damage aura toggles (they are also the only ones "turned off") and therefore it is probably classed/coded the same as them.
  24. I like the just shows up idea. We could make it somewhat innocous looking too. Something that would fit in almost anywhere, like a police call box perhaps?
  25. I just rocked Dark Blast on a Blaster this weekend. Wow! Very nice set. If it had a Ranged Crashless Nuke I would marry it. As it is it is just a great utilitarian ranged powerset, not the top of control, or damage, or range, but good in all 3. Oh, and a ranged siphon life. Yeah.
