Quote:I have a level 50 Elec/WP that was my first AE solo boss farmer. I soft-capped her E/N defense for like 50 mil and then beat the snot out of customs. I could see it fairing decently well still, when i16 hits, but I doubt it'll be quite as good as farming in the i14 and i15 environment. To somewhat jump in on someone else's thread, but in a related way, which of these 3 will eventually make the best budget farming brute? I think all are non-ideal and maybe even terrible but I happen to have all of these in the high 30s already. Just wondering which to push to 50.
Elec/WP
SS/Energy Aura
SS/Elec

I'm thinking Ice/Earth would be a potentially deadly combo. Visions of Ice Slick + Mud Pots + AA with Seismic Smash and Block of Ice... The only thing Ice is lacking is a stun for stacking with Fissure. But the combo of KD and PBAoE control is downright scary.
I wasn't sure if I was gonna do Fire/Earth or Ice/Earth but I'm thinking Ice might be more fun considering I'll be rolling a Fire/Cold Controller anyway. -
I call dibs on the red-side one, if/when it starts.

I'm feeling much happier about my build after the comments posted here. I decided to not go with Hasten. Unfortunately, this leaves me a few seconds shy of Perma-Dom but I have two feelings about that. 1) Perma-Dom isn't required with this build and 2) I will likely use the base empowerment recharge buff on a regular basis, just because Doms get so much out of recharge. I've considered dropping Whirling Hands for the Snipe or Levitate but I don't know that it'd add too much to the build while talking away a purple set.
I'd love a build that was Perma and retained the defense I've been able to get with this build, but I think I'll likely have to leave it like this. Of course, the +3% Def PvPO would be lovely in this build but the 1.5 billion needed to purchase it is already going for another build it'll be more useful in (my brute).
Anyway, please give me feedback and point out some ways I could improve this.
Just to give you an idea, I picture this toon running SFs and missions with friends. Not much farming to speak of or anything like that.
Thanks.

So, I've been playing around in Mids and I can't seem to get all the pieces to fall together in a nice package. I'm looking to make a PvE build that focuses on getting a good amount of defense as well as a sizable amount of recharge.
I was hoping that using the Scorpion Shield, Hover, Tough (Steadfast +3%) and Weave, I could pick up a good amount of S/L/E defense and then hopefully soft-cap Ranged Def. Then with liberal use of LotGs and set bonuses, pick up enough extra defense and recharge to really get things going. I was hoping for Perma-Dom but I don't see being able to fit Hasten in or getting enough recharge to accomplish it with also getting the good numbers in defense. Anyone play around with a similar concept? How'd you do? -
Quote:I don't think any of us here were trying to convince you to take it but when you answer people's questions on the forums, you should really know what you're talking about.Hmm going by Red Tomax and Mids. I was wrong about the radius.
Fire Ball still does more damage though (:
No I'm not clamoring for things that fire does better now because my info was incorrect. I just really think stone is not as good as fire. and refuse to take it.
For example, slotting your APPs for damage is somewhat of a waste if you can't find a better, cheaper non-damage set because Fulcrum Shift will always keep you at damage cap in a farming environment. Why would I want to slot the hugely more expensive Ragnarok in Fissure when, if I wanted to slot a purple, I could slot Absolute Amazement for cheaper and have just as good set bonuses. Or Stupefy for even cheaper, for decent bonuses.
Fireball may offer better DPS, but I bet on a BM farm, even, I have to hit Transfusion less often and would end up having better DPS over time. -
Quote:What Epic are you specing out of ?
Cause if it's Fire or Psi don't.
Psi is technically the best but Fire is definitely no slouch. Psi has better survivability than fire but it has DoT on Psionic Tornado, whereas Fireball is one hit damage with good recharge. So it's actually a toss up, but stone has nothing, but a higher survivability, since Fissure has such a small AoE.
So when you compare it's really not worth it.
If you take fire
Level 41: 6 slot fire blast with Decimations not the proc, and a nuc.
Level 44: 6 slot Fire shield with 5 titaniums and either an Aegis proc, Impervioum Armor psi proc or the impervious skin 7.5% status resist proc.
Level 47: 6 slot fireball woth 5 rags or posis, and a nuc.
If you take psi
Level 41: 6 slot mental blast with 5 decimations and a nuc
Level 44: 6 slot MoB with 5 Titaniums and one of the aformentioned procs
Level 47: 6 slot Psionic Tornado with 5 Rags or 5 posis and a Nuc
Level 49: 2 slot ID with 2 Generic Recharge IOs
If you desperately want stone
Level 41: 6 Slot Fissure with 5 rags or 5 posis and a nuc.
Level 44: 6 slot seismic with either 5 hecas or 5 makos and a nuc.
Level 47: 6 slot Rock Armor with a 7.5% recharge and 5 red fortunes
Level 49: 2 slot Earths Embrace with either 2 impervium armors 2 miracles or 2 harmonized healings for the recov boost.
Alternatively if you can't or don't want to afford the 7.5 in Rock Armor, you can 5 slot it and 3 slot Earths Embrace.
Just as a general note to your build make sure to get the fighting, fitness, speed and leaping pools. Also uncrafted Recipes you buy from WWs are cheaper than the crafted ones. Hope this helps.
The fact that you're slotting those with damage sets shows you don't know much about farming on a Fire/Kin. Stone has more control, almost as good damage and way better survivability than Fire and Psi. I don't know why you'd ever slot for damage on a Fire/Kin that's built for farming. Maybe in a second build that's for general use, but even then... -
Quote:Why would you slot for damage? With FS you're at damage cap all the time, anyway.it's more hotfeet+fire cages+fissure+seismic smash=big time damage and in the containment and stritigic application of both your holds and stunns. the basic attack chain looks something like flashfire>firecages>move into melee for hotfeet>fulcrum shift>then either another application of fire cages or in my case throwing out cinders and usually everything is most the way gone....and I've slotted my attacks for damage....and I didn't skimp on the IO's. so your not looking at any one power doing the brunt of the damage but the conglameration of them all...with hotfeet kicking the most a$$
-
And if you're keeping the toon at 24, I'd honestly try and go without Fitness and maybe pick up fighting instead, for tough.

Quote:Obliteration was not a huge increase in cost. The set, when purchased under the max level, can be put together in the neighbourhood of 25-50 million inf. In my case, I got 4 of the pieces I needed from speed ITFs, etc. It also gives me 3 nice attributes in S/L defense, global accuracy and a bit more recharge. Why Obliteration in Hot Feet? A big increase in cost and in slots for what, 3% recharge? As you approach the recharge cap (which both builds hit at times in some powers) extra recharge does less and less. The difference between 300% recharge (1/4 recharge time) and 400% recharge (1/5 recharge time) is a lot less than the difference between 200% (1/3 recharge) and 300% (1/4). And the damage slotting does you no good for a farming build - or a character teaming with a decent number of people. And will do even less post-i16.
Quote:And you put 'weird mistakes' in quotes. Are you seriously saying the extra slot of jump speed in Hurdle is a -good- choice for a farming build? Or that Super Jump is superior on, say, an ITF where you might have people with just SS to Inertial Reduction, which doesn't suppress and can be shared with your allies?
Quote:Oh, wait. You changed that build and took Earth's Embrace instead of Super Jumping (so it's not the same build), leaving you with Combat Leaping and Hurdle as your travel power. I guess if you're not -ever- leaving AE that works, but even then, that slot from Hurdle could go somewhere else and do more good.
And I've been having no problem running regular missions, STFs, ITFs, etc with just CJ and Hurdle. -
Just for comparison, this is the original build with its 'weird mistakes' in it.

I had also considered working a build with the Ice APP. The only issue is that the one AoE power is a cone, which requires more positioning than I wanted with a simple, cheap farming build. On my live build, I've got Obliteration in Hot Feet. -
I am going to be making a DM/FA toon based on a concept that I have but I am wondering which would be a higher performer. I am thinking that the Brute would be, based mostly on the fact that I can get my Fire resist past the 75% Scrapper cap and the PPPs add sorely needed AoE damage.
However, the fact that damage buffs benefit Scrappers more and on a high recharge build I could be looking at perma Soul Drain plus a signigicant amount of uptime for FE makes the Scrapper somewhat attractive too.
What is everyone's experience on the two? -
There is also one IO that goes a really long way to solving /Dark Armour's perceived endurance issues: The Theft of Essence: Chance for +End proc to slot in Dark Regeneration.
Even slotted for ED-capped End Reduction, Dark Regen still uses 1/5 of your blue bar every-time you heal. The proc allows you to take an alpha and be back up at full without any endurance loss in most cases. -
I am interested.
If you are looking for any more at some point, shoot me a PM, please. I have up to 50m I would like to invest, if the opportunity presents itself. -
I'm just wondering the steps to go about to do this? I want to work on my /Cold Controller for when i16 comes out. I think it might even displace my Fire/Kin as my favourite controller.
Thanks in advance. -
I think the general consensus is both Sonic and Ice. With Sonic, the -Res that you stack on single targets amounts to a considerable increase in overall damage. With Ice, Ice Storm and Blizzard both give you blaster level AoE damage.
I personally find Sonic to be awesome on a Defender. -
PS - Not that it matters but it actually is my build
I tried 54s before and was only semi-successful with it. If I had a sonic or two on my team, my success rate went up by a huge amount. At 52s, I had no problem, but what they say is correct in that 50s offer the best possible time/reward ratio, so why bother? -
I understand that some people don't enjoy farming. That's cool, however I do enjoy it. I've just set up my Fire/Kin with a somewhat decent IO build and I have soft capped S/L. Currently, my farm of choice is just AE boss farms with the plethora of S/L damage causers. It's great because it offers great rewards, plenty of deaths, lots of fun and pretty good rewards.
However, I am wondering what the best thing to farm for current dev content is. I would like a chance to earn purples as well as pulling in some recipes and good salvage. I'd prefer a S/L opponent to capitilize on my strengths, so I'm wondering what missions would be good for that. With the recharge and general defense I have, I'm sure I could do most anything, I just wonder what farms people find fun and profitable. -

A system where everyone autoSKs to the same level does dodge all problems involving trying to figure out what differing level characters ought to earn. However, something about that idea makes me just a little uneasy, although I'm not sure why. In things like task forces, it seems to me to be an "obviously" reasonable solution, but outside of that, something doesn't quite feel right about it, although I can't really put my finger on it yet.

There are a few potential pitfalls to the auto-SK feature. It doesn't address the problem that people who are contributing less are getting equivalent XP. You look at a level 8 who joins a level 40's mission. Just like current SKing, he doesn't have his powers nearly as well as enhanced as the 40, doesn't have stamina for potential endurance issues and doesn't have the power selections to deal with situations that a level 40 has to deal with. -
I went with 5x Stupefy for the recharge bonus (everything but the KB proc) and a Force Feedback: Chance for +Rech.
I farm a lot, so it's easy for me to hit damage cap with two fulcrum shifts alone. -
I'm willing to guess that with Sergei's set bonuses and the passives, plus hard hitting attacks, one of which heals him... Invincible is not suicide at all without his toggles on.

I think I'm finally ready to build a Dual Blades toon and I've decided on SR as the secondary. I'm quite familiar with /SR, so there is no trouble there. What I am wondering, however, is what combos I should be aiming for on DB? Is that even the way to build? I'm kind of looking for what attacks are skipable.
Depending on how tight the build is, I may reconsider and go Fire Melee but I just have never tried DB out, since they introduced it. -
I would honestly recommend going empathy for your primary. You provide an excellent to hit, defence and damage buff with fortitude and provide unlimited endurance between recovery aura and adrenalin boost. Not to mention the regen and recharge you can provide.
I would then add dark blast for the. -tohit and stacking the stun from dark pit with oppressive gloom. Then lock them down with TT and you're good to go. -

With Flashfires it will be just that much better. I think slotting for more damage will often be wasted because Fulcrum shift is going to cap you often enough anyway.

You're right. I'll have FS double stacked all the time which will have me at cap regardless. Thanks a ton! Your comment made my planned build a ton cheaper and a better controller to boot! -

Farming is boreding, I am glad the stop the farming in the AE but did they really need to make it super hard lol

Yeah, it sure is a great thing that they're trying to stop an activity that you could simply not choose to take part in. And in the process, made content harder than you can handle.
I can sure see why you're happy. :rolls eyes:
