Fire/Kin/Stone Build

Hiya All!

I'm looking to respec my F/K to the stone epic since I keep hearing how nice it is for farming. I have about 200-225MIL saved up and was wondering the best enhances to get for that influence range, with acceptable set bonuses. I'll be soloing 50 bosses (or 52 LT's) so I don't need the be all end all...just something that could survive that.

Also, as a general question....do you guys buy the already crafted IO's, or just get the recipes and do it yourself? Are the recipes generally cheaper substantially cheaper?

Thanks in advance for the help...I've been playing about 6 weeks and I'm pretty addicted! This will be my first attempt at a fully IO'd toon.

What Epic are you specing out of ?

Cause if it's Fire or Psi don't.

Psi is technically the best but Fire is definitely no slouch. Psi has better survivability than fire but it has DoT on Psionic Tornado, whereas Fireball is one hit damage with good recharge. So it's actually a toss up, but stone has nothing, but a higher survivability, since Fissure has such a small AoE.

So when you compare it's really not worth it.

If you take fire

Level 41: 6 slot fire blast with Decimations not the proc, and a nuc.
Level 44: 6 slot Fire shield with 5 titaniums and either an Aegis proc, Impervioum Armor psi proc or the impervious skin 7.5% status resist proc.
Level 47: 6 slot fireball woth 5 rags or posis, and a nuc.

If you take psi

Level 41: 6 slot mental blast with 5 decimations and a nuc
Level 44: 6 slot MoB with 5 Titaniums and one of the aformentioned procs
Level 47: 6 slot Psionic Tornado with 5 Rags or 5 posis and a Nuc
Level 49: 2 slot ID with 2 Generic Recharge IOs

If you desperately want stone

Level 41: 6 Slot Fissure with 5 rags or 5 posis and a nuc.
Level 44: 6 slot seismic with either 5 hecas or 5 makos and a nuc.
Level 47: 6 slot Rock Armor with a 7.5% recharge and 5 red fortunes
Level 49: 2 slot Earths Embrace with either 2 impervium armors 2 miracles or 2 harmonized healings for the recov boost.

Alternatively if you can't or don't want to afford the 7.5 in Rock Armor, you can 5 slot it and 3 slot Earths Embrace.

Just as a general note to your build make sure to get the fighting, fitness, speed and leaping pools. Also uncrafted Recipes you buy from WWs are cheaper than the crafted ones. Hope this helps.

Recipes are almost always cheaper than crafted enhancements.

As for the build, if all you want to do is farm missions in the AE, then -- no offense, Insanity -- you'd be wise to disregard just about everything that was said in the first reply.

The idea is to soft cap Smash/Lethal DEF, which basically requires Stone Armor. The idea is also that, since you're fighting huge groups of opponents, you don't need damage enhancements in your powers, because with sufficiently large spawns, Fulcrum Shift will cap your damage anyway -- which is convenient, because a number of the best S/L DEF IO sets reside in non-damage sets. Plus, those sets are generally orders of magnitude cheaper.

If, on the other hand, you want a build for more general purpose play -- a build that doesn't assume full Fulcrum Shift at all times -- then you're going to have to pay a lot more to achieve similar results on the farming side. Slotting damage sets in some of your key powers is not only much more expensive; it's also in some cases going to cost you DEF bonuses that you would have otherwise.

Something like this would work, for instance:

Keep in mind that this build was thrown up haphazardly; it's meant only to be an example. There are some expensive IOs in there; Basilisk's Gaze, for instance, wasn't cheap the last time I checked -- but on the whole the build is cheap by forum-post standards, and barring some huge shift of whch I'm not aware, you should easily be able to afford something like it on your budget.

In any case, you can see how the principles behind such a build work. You take advantage of Fulcrum Shift, Rock Armor, and to a much lesser extent Siphon Speed to mitigate your level of reliance on IO set bonuses. The build could easily be improved through the addition of LoTGs or what have you, but those aren't by any stretch important to overall performance.

I recommend you read around. You can find better versions of the build above in several places on this forum; just keep in mind that prices constantly fluctuate, so in some cases what may have been touted as cheap in a given post might not be cheap anymore.

The fact that you're slotting those with damage sets shows you don't know much about farming on a Fire/Kin. Stone has more control, almost as good damage and way better survivability than Fire and Psi. I don't know why you'd ever slot for damage on a Fire/Kin that's built for farming. Maybe in a second build that's for general use, but even then...

LoL I don't know much about farming....

Both the Psi and fire slotting I suggested here are
VERY Viable in say 8 man BM runs or in Psis case also in Freaks, fire tends to not do as well...

They also work quite well in the AE. I've been using both of them since I11, and quite honestly could care less about the Farming FotM due to the AE. And the fact still remains that no matter what the dam with FS is, Fissure still has a small AoE

Sorry I tried to help.

Regards,
Insanity.

Fissure's AoE = 15' radius

For those keeping score, that's the same size as Fireball. A 30' diameter is nothing to sneeze at.

Hmm going by Red Tomax and Mids. I was wrong about the radius.

Fire Ball still does more damage though (:

No I'm not clamoring for things that fire does better now because my info was incorrect. I just really think stone is not as good as fire. and refuse to take it.

I don't think any of us here were trying to convince you to take it but when you answer people's questions on the forums, you should really know what you're talking about.

For example, slotting your APPs for damage is somewhat of a waste if you can't find a better, cheaper non-damage set because Fulcrum Shift will always keep you at damage cap in a farming environment. Why would I want to slot the hugely more expensive Ragnarok in Fissure when, if I wanted to slot a purple, I could slot Absolute Amazement for cheaper and have just as good set bonuses. Or Stupefy for even cheaper, for decent bonuses.

Fireball may offer better DPS, but I bet on a BM farm, even, I have to hit Transfusion less often and would end up having better DPS over time.

I really does help to know what your talking about... Thanks for pointing that out.

As to my slotting, why make an extra kin for say TFs or other environments when you could spend a little more on your farming fire/kin and use him for those as well. And before you criticize me for not following the help request to the word, I was trying to help make a good kin. So yeah while your farming those big AE mobs and sometimes BM mobs you may be getting nice FS buffs, tfs are a little different. (Yes I realize Stone's better for AVs and bosses with seismic) I was giving personal advice, from my experience on a GOOD Kin, not just an affordable farming Kin.

And I didn't say you were trying to convince me. (:

What the hell is a GOOD kin? is it a kin that can't handle large enough mobs to never need to slot damage? You need 10 targets to self cap your damage, if you are fighting less than 10 targets at once as a late game kin in ANY team in ANY mission then something is wrong. Not to mention that FS has a ridiculous duration and is easily double stacked and even triple stacked.

*damage slotted kin still needs 7 targets

I have some of my st attacks slotted with some or full damage for when there is only a few hard st left, but none of my aoes. You get way better IO bonuses out of the non-damage sets and generally way better recharge, acc, and end reduction values too.

GOOD kins know that they can fully enhance all of their control as control and still do as much damage as a damage enhanced kin troller while being safer, faster, and bringing a lot more "controller" to teams.

Maybe you play a different kind of "good" kin though.

Perhaps I do have a different definition of "GOOD Fire/Kin", however the play style works for me so I was giving some advice, unfortunately I gave the same advice in about 5 threads and got very similar answers so I guess I'm a anomaly. (And an idiot, some of you are probably thinking).

But w/e.

Thanks for all the guidance and discussion so far. Build1 with my F/K has Psy as the Epic choice, and it's fully IO'd with normal enhances (no sets)...I'll get into slotting that down the road when I get a good farming build for influence return.

Build2 is configured as follows so far....I tried doing DeltaThermal's build (without those pricey LoTG's xD) and this is where I'm so far. I also dropped the Basilisks Gaze on Char and went with what you see below. I have noticed that accuracy is an issue for me on this build....wonder how that could be addressed?

That's about 600Mil Influ so far, which is what I had after pooling together all of my other characters money. I hope to make that back up within a week of active playing, though...so I consider it an investment.

Advice? Ideas for change?

This is my planned respec as soon as I get the kinetic combats.

Capped HP (perma earth's embrace with siphon speed and Hasten), s/l def cap and good reharge (an expensive build but since I still do TFs on my fire/kin I want him to do damage solo, but of course fissure could be slotted with a stupefy set for example.

How much do you anticipate that build costing? I know the market rises/falls on some enhances, but to my *untrained* eye, that looks like over a billion...easily.

Hmmm maybe 500-600 mil if you're patient with the market. BTW my current build (totally different, uses maneuvers and etc) is worth less than 100 mil, has 36% s/l def and can farm very well. But I wnna respec to get seismic smash and be sofcapped, I have a billionaire toon to fund it or I can just keep farming:

I just must be too impatient... :\ The build I posted above has already put me over 600M+ and it just keeps getting higher. That plus the fact that I can't get a decent reward roll to save my life. ARGH!

Kinetic Combats have skyrocketed in price in the last month or so -- specifically the Dam/End and the triple. I was actually surprised that it didn't happen sooner; it's been a great set for quite some time now.

In any case, the one nice thing you have going for you on a non-melee build is that you don't care as much about the enhancement values. You can use the knockdown proc without fear that your melee attacks will miss out on damage/endred/recharge/acc. You can use the lowest level enhancements for the same reason.

Recently, I bought three sets of KC for a Blaster build. Everything except the two aforementioned enhancements was relatively cheap, but I wasn't about to pay 30-50 million for one of the other two. So, I placed low bids on those enhancements for the first few levels of the range (say, 20-24). Within days, I had my recipes on the cheap.

That said, as noted within the previously posted build, you don't need Kinetic Combat. You don't really need Basilisk's Gaze, either. Everything else should be well within your price range, unless there's something really massive I've missed. If you've already spent 600 million, then I'm saying all of this too late -- but there it is, for what it's worth.

Edit: As for accuracy, the only easy fixes I see for that on the build you've posted are the Kismet unique IO (slots into a DEF power), and adjusting the slotting on Fulcrum Shift; you don't need three recharge enhancements in FS.

I'm mostly complete with my versions of DeltaThermal's build and it won't cost you anywhere near that much with how you have it slotted. From what I've seen you can probably do it for a 200 mill or less, and maybe use some tickets for rare salvage. You can easily find some AE teams with a fire/kin as you slot it out. Go for the +def bonuses first as that's the important part of the build, recharge bonuses are extra. Get the cheap ones first to free up your auction slots and then pick up the others over a week to two to find cheaper prices. Some of the skills you won't use much, if at all, so go with cheap low level IOs if you can find them. 45-49 IOs can save a lot of money too if they are available. (Ok, numia's is probably expensive). Don't bother with the +regen, go with the +recovery if you can get it. You've got a great heal, so don't bother with regen.

I'd keep basilisk gaze though. The quad is expensive, but the rest are fairly cheap. Just get it for the recharge bonus. You won't use it all that much, and even then cinders should give you enough protection. You've got fissure for extra stun as well as seismic smash.

It's really a toss up on the style you want to play.

1) Fissure disorient stacks with flashfire disorient, start farming level 52-53 bosses.
2) Be sure to take the fighting pool powers for tough & weave.
3) Be sure to take combat jumping for the extra defense.
4) If you go with fire, you get more damage resist, if you go with stone, you get more defense. So if you go with stone, you get 3 defense powers, instead of 2 (you see where I'm going with this).
5) Fulcrum makes you damage cap if you are getting 10 every time & using it whenever it is up.
6) Your Fire Imps are a perk to your damage, not the main source of damage. I out damage my fire imps (if they survive) by a long shot.
7) Slot your sets so you get more +hitpoints so you can survive standing next to a mob.
8) Use heal every other power in your chain & you will notice a HUGE difference.

I'm on Victory, ever want to come run with me & check it out, come see.

Other than the purple recipes in Hot Feet & Fireball, this is what I am running with. I farm level 53 bossesusually spawned for an 8 man team, along with another fire/kin or a fire/rad & we do just fine. If we have a tank, the tank pulls mobs to us, we don't follow the tank. Take note, I do not have acrobatics, I got a +4 KB resist in my SJ. I never get KB'd.
