Hah, that sounds great. Actually, my IMs aren't blocked at all. I bring in my laptop and use Skype and MSN on my computer but the problem is that everyone I have on my list is not only normal daytime people but daytime people who live on the East Coast, which is two hours ahead of my time.
-
Hi everyone. I play on Virtue too.
I figured, since I'm completely and totally bored doing the night shift at work I'd say hi.
My heroes are Acro Bat, Crimson Charlatan, Black Bellatrix and Presight among others. My villains are Electric Feel, Adam Apex and Fixate (who is only a level 1 concept right now, but she'll be a full fledged one before long)
So, uh, yeah. I like to RP, though I haven't met a lot of people who do so on a regular basis so I'm confined to some ultra-light RP, and I also like to farm and powergame. Haven't got into PvP yet but I'm sure given time, I could. I started playing during the Beta and have been on and off since then. Which sucks for the veteran rewards situation.
Anyway, just looking for some people to talk to while I'm bored out of my skull and can't play. -
Here it is. I feel like the dream build is finally done. This one will be awfully expensive but will give me better defenses than a non-IO'd EA Brute, Perma-Dom and the power picks that I want (minus Sniper Blast and Levitate
). In my humble opinion, this build rocks hard.

With Blaze Mastery coming out, I'd consider going Scrapper vs Brute. Slightly squishier but you're getting Fireball which gets massively buffed by Fiery Embrace.
That's what I'm going to do, anyway. -
Looks like I'll be able to fit in Hurricane and Ice Slick anyway.
Here are my power choices.

Quote:You hit the nail on the head on one of the concepts I've wanted to do for a while. Taking DM/FA up and kitting it out with a whole ton of recharge and actually taking and using the resurrection power. I'm thinking two heals, two build-up type powers, immob+burn, two end recovery powers and now with Blaze mastery, another immob and *FIREBALL*, it'd be a pretty sweet build. Something that gets knocked down every once in a while but plays much like a juggernaut. It's the kind of build that, I think, personifies Scrappers.I'm always interested in finding and trying to abuse game mechanics in new and interesting ways. I think right now that the best way to do that is to build up high +defense on pretty much any toon. But ignoring that possibilty, particularly using more active powers as opposed to just passive/toggle mitigations what other synergies do you guys find interesting? Maybe not something you'd play, but something you're curious about?
...
DM/Fire or Spines/fire - using immobalize with burn
...
/DA or /FA with a focus on high recharge in thier resurrection power to be used frequently.
Anyone have any expirience with doing these, or have a concept of your own you want to share? -
I have an Ice/Storm that has been sitting at around level 35 for a while whom I might dig out solely because of World of Confusion. I was wondering if AA + WoC + the Contagious Confusion proc would be as good as I think it would. As far as skippable powers in such a build... would Ice Patch maybe be a decent candidate to think about getting rid of? I'm definitely going to be getting rid of Hurricane and I was thinking that locking things down with my AoE Immob and then using Tornadoes, Lightning Storm and Freezing Rain to help destroy things with a proc'd Snow Storm and AA and Jack Frost beating them up.
Would this end up working alright? -
Comboing definitely adds to the attacks. They're still usable without putting them into combos but you are losing out on a lot of damage/mitigation potential without tapping into them. What I'd recommend doing is using dual builds and with your first build, focus on the low level combos while leveling up. Then, once you're higher level, use your second build for the other (imo better) combos.
-
Especially on a team environment, you're going to get the most survivability out of /Willpower. Regen with DB/ will result in a lot of redraw whereas /SR, you only get redraw once every two minutes and /Willpower you don't really have to worry about it at all.
The reason I suggest /Willpower over /Super Reflexes for you is twofold. The first is the fact that you said you like teaming and teaming brings more mobs. Law of averages says that with more attacks, more of them are going to end up landing with /Super Reflexes. /Willpower, however, has Rise to the Challenge, which gives you a whole lot of regen based on the amount of mobs around you. This combined with the other mitigation that Willpower gives makes it a top contender. Also, with Super Reflexes, not only is it a late blooming set, but you don't get to a lot of its potential unless you use IOs.
For you, I'd definitely recommend pairing it with Willpower. -
Just thought of an odd character concept. What about a Scrapper that you play as a blaster from range? I'm thinking Build Up + FE + Throw Spines + Fireball would be devastating from range. Combine that with soft capped ranged defense and RoF, Fire Blast, and Impale for your single targets...
Seems like it could be a neat second build for a Spines/Fire. You could drop Blazing Aura and Quills on the build too. -
This. Every since seeing Hot Buttered Soul's guide (awesome, a great read) I have been playing an Earth/Sonic. It offers incredibly solid team support and later in life, you and your pet become a pretty potent duo. Works rather well thematically too.
-
I'm sad about all the Fire/Kin hate but I guess with the popularity of farming recently, it's to be expected. Part of what makes the Fire/Kin so great is not just its damage but also its control. Especially with my Fire/Kin/Stone, I'm stacking stuns and holds all over the place and not only do a lot of damage but do it in safety. I'm not saying that Earth/ isn't better at controlling, I'm just saying if you had a Fire/Kin that wasn't controlling as well as killing, you were looking at a bad player, not a bad combo.
With that being said, I see a resurgence in the popularity of control now that people will be able to run larger and tougher spawns, regardless of team size. Suddenly an Earth/Sonic and a Rad/Fire look like a terrifying combo. -
Do you think you'll be using Soul Transfer enough to make having it worthwhile? I mean soft-capped with the best heal in the game... I was thinking that throwing Conserve Power or the new Physical Perfection with a Perf Shifter +End proc in that last spot might be a better pick.
-
I liked my Claws/DA but I stopped playing her before because I never really had any clear direction for her. This is evidenced by her last few powers being Caltrops and unslotted Shockwave among other things. Either way, I've decided I want to put together a build for her to work toward. I've hit a bit of a snag, though and am wondering if it'd be better to take away some of my Recharge focus and put it towards Melee defense. Secondly, I'm wondering if I should just get rid of Super Jump and pick up Conserve Power instead. I can handle just using CJ+Hurdle but I wanted to get the opinions of others.
Here is the build, it requires ston3y's unofficial I16 Mid's update.

I decided while I was bored to copy a few toons over to test and give the new character customization a try. As expected, it was a lot of fun. Then I decided to run some toons through some radios with the new mission difficulties. My Fire/Kin was first up and as expected, he did pretty well, except for once when I got stunned and forgot to load up on BFs before the testing. (I was also fighting Rikti and he's only soft-capped to S/L) So, then, I dug out my Claws/DA Scrapper that is only lightly IO'd (some CIs in her attacks and frankenslotted Dark Regen with the +end proc) and set the mission to 6 with +2s, wondering if she could handle it.
It was freakin' amazing. I love how more enemies seem to make her more survivable and I was taking out the +2s like they were greens.
One thing I have to say is that the current difficulty settings allow you to accumulate a ton of inspirations, which make it even easier to take out large mobs than you otherwise would be able. I'm talking about constantly having an orange, purple and two reds going and still being full before I could do anything about it.
That said, though, spinning around and taking the council down like so much wheat was exhilarating and it's an experience I recommend to everyone.
Anyone have any good stories about playing around in test with their scrappers? My love for my Claws/DA has been renewed. -
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'm not going to feel bad about using my laptop at work, however, considering that the other guys here are watching movies to pass the time and there is a block on travel for the company (which is what I deal with) between the hours of midnight and 5am so the only things I'd have to deal with during those times are emergencies, which I would obviously just close the laptop to deal with.
Anyway, I think I am going to look at setting up a 3G connection. Anyone have any idea the data transfer the game requires? If I'm looking at something like 8-12 days a month x 4 hours, would I need more than 1gb?
Thanks again. -
Quote:Not to nitpick but being a roleplayer shouldn't make you have to take Electric Melee to pair with Electric Armour. Many other pairings would work conceptually. Not that it's a bad combo or anything, I just don't see why people seem to think that pairing the same primary and secondary together is what you have to do if you're making a concept character.1. I'm currently playing an Elec/Elec Brute, because I really like the sound of /Elec. I'm an RPer, so Elec/ was a given. *shrugs* Is Elec/Elec any good? Do I need to start over?
Heck, I have a Claws/DA Scrapper whose /DA is actually just an advanced energy shield buffered by nanites. -
My job has me doing (no hyperbole here) nothing from 11:30pm to 5:00am on the night shifts but unfortunately, they have a block on most web access. I was able to circumvent this for the purpose of browsing the internet but I was wondering how I would go about connecting to City of Heroes.
Anyone have any ideas?
I've even been seriously considering getting an iPhone and tethering my laptop to it for it's 3G connection but I'd have to break contract and sign a new one for that, which means I'm paying like $700. -
OH. MY. GOD. So, I had finally decided I was going to do DM/FA as a Brute... and then you point this out. :/ Meanie.

I have a new job where 8 days out of the month I don't have a lot to do besides browse the web and write. I was thinking I would like to put together a SS/Shield guide as it has turned out to be one of the funnest toons I've played. To be honest, I'm not even out of my 30s yet but I don't seem him getting any less fun. I was thinking that I could write a guide that would tell a bit about power choices, then go into a leveling/playing guide and finally have a few sample builds at the end.
Is this type of thing desirable or since the games numbers have become so transparent, guides are no longer needed? This and a Fire/Kin guide are two that I'm interested in trying to write but there seems to be less need for a Fire/Kin one.
Thoughts? Opinions? Comments?
Thanks in advance. -
Hey, I have been dreaming about making a Fire/Cold since it was announced and have been tooling around in Mids in preparation. My goal was to create a build that has soft-capped S/L Defense and enough recharge to get near-perma Heat Loss, because I'll need it. I also wanted some really high defense Imps that hit decently hard. One other focus was slotting my attacks so that they were not gimped. A Fire/Kin can neglect slotting damage because they can self-cap damage but a Fire/Cold doesn't have that luxury.
So, this is what I came up with and... I'm not satisfied. I'm 1.2 short of soft-capped defense and quite a bit short of perma Heat Loss. The defense can be fixed with the PvPO + 3 but I don't know if I wanna plan that in, considering the cost of that = 5 LotGs, etc.
Caveats with the build are that I want to keep the Ice APP for Ice Storm and Frost Breath, and in general I like my power selections. I would like Snow Storm, but I don't see that happening.

We were doing a speed ITF, something we do fairly often. We were rescuing all the Sybils and we usually split into a few small teams of 2-4 and quickly rescue them. I was assisting a scrapper and controller in rescuing one and was reveling in bringing destruction down upon the Cimerorans. After flattening a majority of the ones around me, just having a few bosses still feebly swinging at me, I notice that my team is already exiting to go up to the oracle.
God, I love my Fire/Kin. -
*crickets*
No feedback? I was hoping some savvy Mids guru would be able to take this build to an 11. -
So, I dabbled around with Mid's a bit at work here and came up with a Claws/Elec build. I was trying to go with something that would give me good defense (especially melee), while also getting decent recharge. I also wanted to try running a stamina-less build. I realize it is expensive, but keep in mind, the purples and the PvPOs are goals and there are other place holders that'd work. With that being said, I'm wondering what I can do to this build to tweak it to be better. I was thinking that something like this would be able to neuter a fair amount of regular content while maybe being able to solo AVs. Anyway, please pick it apart... let's make it better!
